The Sickly Beauty is Too Good at Seducing - Chapter 30
Feng Yu lifted Shen Congbai by the armpits like he was plucking a mushroom, carrying him over to the dining table. “I really don’t know if I hired a housekeeper to wait on me or for me to wait on them. You get so mad you ignore me just over a little joke.”
Under someone else’s roof, one must bow their head. Shen Congbai shot him a resentful look, looking like a little aggrieved punching bag. “Fine, you sit here. I’ll go to the kitchen and make you a fresh breakfast.”
Feng Yu, of course, wasn’t actually going to let him do labor; his words were just meant to coax this little snail out of its shell.
A playful expression crossed his face as he toyed with Shen Congbai’s index finger. “I wouldn’t dare eat a breakfast you made. I learned my lesson last time.”
In the past, Shen Congbai had a whim to make him pork rib soup. One mouthful was half a spoon of salt. Fearing he’d crush the boy’s confidence, Feng Yu’s face turned green from the saltiness, but he didn’t say a word it wasn’t until he woke Shen Congbai up by getting up for water in the middle of the night that the truth came out.
But he had turned that misfortune into a blessing. Taking advantage of Shen Congbai’s guilt, Feng Yu had managed to get more kisses in that one week than he had in the previous month only stopping when Shen Congbai’s lips were too swollen to be seen in public.
Shen Congbai snatched his finger back, huffing, “Even if you wanted it, I wouldn’t make it for you now.”
He hesitated, then couldn’t help but ask, “Then what exactly do I need to do?”
Feng Yu thought for a moment. “A part-time cleaner will come to handle the heavy housework. Your job is to take care of the flowers and plants on the balcony. How about that?”
“Is… is that all?” Shen Congbai toyed with his fingers, feeling conflicted. This money seemed far too easy to earn.
“Hardly.” Feng Yu leaned in slowly, his sharp, handsome face suddenly looming large. Shen Congbai could see every tiny detail of his skin. Holding his breath, he heard Feng Yu add: “Whenever I come home, no matter what you’re doing, you have to stand at the door to welcome me. Otherwise, I’d be a real sucker of an employer.”
Shen Congbai looked confused. That’s it?
Seeing his thoughts, Feng Yu stood up and straightened the creases in his clothes. “Do you think that sounds easy?”
Shen Congbai couldn’t help but nod. Feng Yu let out a laugh. “Actually, it is quite simple. Ultimately, your job boils down to one thing making me happy.”
“If the employer isn’t happy, your salary can be confiscated at any time. Do it a few more times, and you might even end up owing me money.”
Shen Congbai’s eyes went wide. Having never experienced the dark side of society, his gaze was pure and clear. He didn’t realize this was a predatory contract full of loopholes. He asked piteously, “Then… what do I have to do to make you happy?”
Feng Yu’s Adam’s apple rolled. He whispered, “Naturally, it’s…”
Just then, a piercing ringtone erupted from the phone on the table. A flash of ferocity crossed Feng Yu’s face. He pushed the bowl of millet porridge toward the still-anxious Shen Congbai and nodded. “Eat your breakfast first.”
He took the phone to the balcony. Shen Congbai saw him looking displeased while talking to whoever was on the other end, but he lost interest and focused on feeding himself the porridge.
When Feng Yu finished the call, he was in a hurry to leave. He even took a big gulp of Shen Congbai’s half-finished porridge before rushing out, instructing: “I won’t be home for lunch. Message me what you want to eat, and I’ll have someone deliver it.”
Shen Congbai, still dangling a cherry from his mouth, nodded. As soon as Feng Yu left, he started planning to go out and find another part-time job.
Since he had left the Shen family, he naturally couldn’t use their money. He didn’t want to keep bothering Feng Yu, either. If he wanted to leave Kyoto, just the cost of maintaining this fragile body was a fortune. The need to earn money was urgent.
He cheered himself up and walked down the street, curiously looking for work.
Passing a private restaurant, he noticed a sign for a “Dish Sales Representative.” Shen Congbai looked closely at the job description. His eyes lit up all he had to do was recommend dishes to guests, and the monthly salary was five figures. It seemed even easier than watering flowers for Feng Yu.
He walked up to the front desk and asked softly, “Hello, are you still hiring for the sales position?”
He looked refined and held a gentle, noble aura clearly a son of a wealthy family. The receptionist was so stunned she took a second to react, her cheeks flushing pink. “I… I’ll contact the manager for you.”
Shen Congbai gave a good-natured smile. “Thank you.”
After a short wait, the manager came hurrying down the stairs. He scrutinized Shen Congbai with hesitation. “…You want to apply?”
Shen Congbai felt a bit uneasy. “Is it… not a good fit?”
“It’s a fit, definitely a fit.” With that face and stature, people would be lining up just to pay the bill.
The manager decided to be upfront: “This is a newly opened private restaurant. Our target clientele are all big figures you can’t afford to offend. You need to be mentally prepared.”
Shen Congbai didn’t mind. He’d slept with the “biggest” figures already; there wasn’t a soul in Kyoto with a more “impressive” resume than his. He felt even more confident, puffing out his chest with pride. “Don’t worry. I have plenty of experience dealing with ‘big figures.'”
Could they really be harder to deal with than Shen Que and the others?
The manager’s gaze turned even stranger. He’d seen plenty of rich kids in Kyoto, and while he didn’t recognize this face, the boy certainly looked like a young master out to experience “real life.”
Could he be… a discarded ‘little pet’ of some CEO, forced to be self-reliant?
Thinking this, his gaze turned pitying. He patted Shen Congbai’s thin shoulder. “Working with me might not give you the life you had before, but it’ll be enough to live with dignity. If you run into a generous guest, the tips in one night could match your base salary.”
Shen Congbai suppressed his excitement. If that’s the case, won’t I have enough to leave Kyoto after just one month?
He said gratefully, “Thank you, Manager.”
“Alright, let’s give it a trial run today and see if you can adjust.” The manager led him upstairs. “You’re in luck. A big client just arrived on the second floor. The other sales staff are busy, and I was going to handle it myself. Don’t let me down, kid.”
Shen Congbai nodded vigorously. “I’ll work hard!”
Finding such a high-paying job on his first try made him feel like he could take care of himself without anyone’s help. However, that joy vanished the moment he put on the uniform.
The remaining uniforms were all small sizes. Shen Congbai looked thin, but he had “meat” in all the right places especially his thighs and hips. The suit trousers clung tightly to him; every step caused intense discomfort.
But the manager, seeing him like this, didn’t say anything. Instead, he excitedly shoved a menu into his hand and hurriedly pulled him toward a private box to pitch dishes.
Shen Congbai kept tugging at his jacket, his face flushed. He stopped at the door, asking uncomfortably, “Is this… really okay?”
His waist was squeezed so hard it hurt, and it felt like his trousers would burst if he moved too much.
The manager waved it off. “Don’t be nervous, it’s just right. This line of work is the same as what you did before if the guests are happy to see you, they’ll spend more.”
“But don’t worry, we’re a legitimate restaurant. No ‘PR transactions’ involved.”
Shen Congbai was confused. Something felt off, but the manager seemed normal, so he assumed he was overthinking. He took a deep breath, mentally prepared himself, and pushed open the door.
For some reason, the moment he entered, the conversation in the room stopped dead. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Shen Congbai slowly looked up, straight into a pair of dark, elongated eyes. His face went blank. Bang! He slammed the door shut.
The manager didn’t even have time to scold him for being unprofessional before Shen Congbai spoke: “Manager, I can’t do this job. I’m sorry.”
The manager grabbed him, looking angry. “Xiao Shen, I gave you this chance because I value you. The people in there are ones neither of us can afford to offend. If that one inside is unhappy, you can’t afford the loss to our profits.”
“I…” Before Shen Congbai could finish, the manager grabbed his wrist and dragged him back into the room.
The aura in the center was too powerful. Shen Congbai hid behind the manager like a little chick, only to be dragged by his collar right in front of the guests.
The moment Shen Congbai’s face was revealed, everyone in the box changed expression. They all instinctively looked toward the head of the table: Shen Que.
The news of the Shen family’s “True vs. Fake Young Master” had already spread through Kyoto’s upper circles. No one knew how Shen Que would react to seeing his “brother” reduced to selling dishes in a restaurant.
Shen Congbai peeked at Shen Que. The man was looking right back at him, his dark eyes hiding a massive, brewing storm. Shen Congbai’s heart sank as he awkwardly looked away.
The manager, a veteran of big scenes, sensed the strange atmosphere. Seeing the guilt on Shen Congbai’s face, a thought occurred to him.
Could it be a coincidence… that one of the men at this table is Shen Congbai’s former patron?
