The Sickly Beauty is Too Good at Seducing - Chapter 29
Shen Congbai looked up in a panic, locking eyes directly with Feng Yu. Most of his snow-white, jade-like skin was exposed to the air, tinted with a beautiful, radiant pink.
Fustled, Shen Congbai tried to hide back under the covers, muttering, “Why did you come in without knocking?”
Feng Yu raised an eyebrow at his reaction and teased, “Who knew you were in here doing something bad? Besides, this is my own room why should I have to knock?”
Feng Yu strolled further into the room and sat heavily on the edge of the bed. Sensing his approach, Shen Congbai retreated deeper into the quilt. The thin air beneath the covers made his eyes water; when Feng Yu finally scooped him out quilt and all the boy was a total mess.
Shen Congbai wrinkled his nose and glared at him. But lacking any real intimidation, he looked more like a newborn kitten baring its tiny teeth in a spoiled tantrum.
Feeling a bit of “shame-turned-to-rage,” he instinctively propped himself up to explain: “I wasn’t doing anything bad! Your thoughts are just filthy.”
He was so earnest in his defense that his hands, which had been gripping the quilt, let go and rested on the sheets. His eyes, still misty with water, stared unblinkingly at Feng Yu. He was completely oblivious to the fact that the quilt had slid down to his waist, pooling loosely and drawing the eye to the smooth curves of his torso and the hidden depths further down.
Feng Yu awkwardly shifted his gaze away and gave a light cough. “Then what were you doing just now?”
Body all damp, wearing nothing but my old bath towel, sniffing my bedding, and eyes all red… if he isn’t doing something naughty, am I really just imagining things?
Shen Congbai picked at the embroidery on the quilt. He couldn’t exactly tell Feng Yu he was sniffing the scent of the man’s bedding; that would sound so weird he’d be labeled a pervert.
His eyes darted around, guilt practically written in bold across his face. He blurted out a random excuse: “I just… had an itch. I was scratching.”
Feng Yu crossed his arms, watching him with an amused look. “Then why did I see you—”
“You saw wrong!” Shen Congbai cut him off instantly, terrified the man would dwell on his previous state.
“Is that so?”
Shen Congbai took the initiative to strike: “Yes! Your eyesight has always been poor. I don’t blame you.”
Feng Yu was laughed at by his unreasonable logic. Just as he was about to speak, Shen Congbai suddenly let out a massive yawn, his eyes drooping as if he could barely keep them open.
“I’m so sleepy. I’m going to sleep.” Fearing Feng Yu would keep pestering him, Shen Congbai immediately lay flat, hands placed neatly over his lower abdomen, eyes squeezed shut. He even let out a fake snore.
If it weren’t for his fluttering eyelashes and irregular breathing, Feng Yu might have actually believed this clumsy attempt at faking sleep.
A surge of playfulness rose in Feng Yu’s heart. He suddenly leaned over Shen Congbai. Sensing the boy’s breath hitch, the smile on Feng Yu’s face widened. He leaned down further, his warm breath fanning across Shen Congbai’s face, only to pull away abruptly just before the boy opened his eyes.
Shen Congbai snapped his eyes open. Seeing Feng Yu sitting calmly at the head of the bed, staring at him with a teasing glint as if nothing had happened, the interrogation got stuck in his throat. His tongue felt tied. “You… what were you just doing?”
Feng Yu raised an eyebrow. “I saw you fall asleep so fast, I wanted to tuck you in.”
Shen Congbai didn’t believe he was being that kind; the man was definitely messing with him. He asked suspiciously, “Really?”
“Of course. Otherwise, what did you think I wanted to do?”
Feng Yu threw the question back at him. Shen Congbai bit his lip and countered, “Who knows what you wanted? I was almost asleep and you woke me up!”
“You…”
“I’m not talking to you anymore. I’m sleepy. I’m really going to sleep now.”
Shen Congbai turned onto his side, giving Feng Yu the cold shoulder. His back looked as resolute as mid-winter snow. Feng Yu stared at him for three solid seconds, realized Shen Congbai truly had no intention of letting him onto the bed, and finally grumbled as he set up his temporary sleeping arrangement.
Because it was a simple spring cot and not quite Feng Yu’s size, it emitted a groan of protest the moment he lay down. Poor Feng Yu, with his long arms and legs, didn’t even dare to adjust his posture; if he stretched out his head and feet would hang off, and if he tried to curl up on his side, the whole thing wobbled like it was about to fall apart.
Shen Congbai’s eyelashes fluttered even more frequently. He pursed his lips and debated with himself for a while before finally shifting toward the inner side of the bed, leaving half the space empty.
A grin spread across Feng Yu’s face. Without even bothering to grab a blanket, he stepped across and lay down, slowly closing his eyes.
The room grew silent, save for the breathing of the two men. After an unknown amount of time, Shen Congbai moved his stiffened body. He focused on counting Feng Yu’s breaths. Once certain the man was asleep, he turned to face him, carefully watching his sleeping face.
Shen Congbai whispered, “Feng Yu, are you asleep?”
Feng Yu didn’t answer. His breathing remained steady; he seemed to be truly dead to the world.
Only then did Shen Congbai relax. He slowly dragged his quilt and shifted closer to Feng Yu. He took a peek at the man and, growing bolder, tucked his head against Feng Yu’s chest. Hearing the steady heartbeat, Shen Congbai let out a sigh of relief, staring blankly at Feng Yu’s collarbone.
No matter how much preparation he had done or how normal he acted during the day, in the dead of night when the world was silent except for Feng Yu’s breathing a belated wave of sorrow finally washed over him.
He secretly gripped Feng Yu’s collar and used it to wipe his tears, unable to stop a soft whimper from escaping.
Like a dam breaking, Shen Congbai’s tears began to fall pitter-patter. He couldn’t hide his sobbing anymore, his whole body trembling with the effort.
But he was very good; he kept his voice low. When he couldn’t suppress the sound anymore, he bit his lower lip hard to endure it, his cheeks turning red as he occasionally let out a huffing sob.
He cried for a long time, until his eyes felt dry and stinging, only then noticing that he had dampened Feng Yu’s shirt. Fearing the man would be uncomfortable, Shen Congbai stuffed a clump of the quilt over Feng Yu’s collar and shifted himself down to avoid the area. He pressed his ear against Feng Yu’s heart, silently soothing his sudden emotional collapse.
Just as his breathing finally calmed, Shen Congbai spoke in a tiny voice: “Feng Yu, I don’t have a home anymore.”
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but Shen Congbai felt Feng Yu’s heart skip a beat. Having cried so long, his brain was muddled. He asked softly, “Feng Yu, are you asleep?”
Feng Yu didn’t move. Shen Congbai’s eyes drifted shut. Just as he was about to fall into a deep sleep, a hot, powerful arm draped over his back, supporting his waist and pulling him forward.
Shen Congbai let out a muddled “Mm” and instinctively nuzzled toward the heat source. Because he had just cried, stray hairs were stuck to his face by tears, and his eyelids were swollen, making his small face look even tinier.
Feng Yu’s eyes were deep, almost merging with the darkness. He rasped, “I told you a long time ago not to go back.”
Going back just to come running back here crying so piteously… wouldn’t it be better to just stay at the Feng house and be Mrs. Feng?
Shen Congbai groaned in his sleep, his brow furrowing as he let out a pained huff. Feng Yu tucked the quilt around the boy’s back and tightened his hold, falling into a deep sleep along with him.
Perhaps because the events of the previous day had been too taxing, Shen Congbai slept very soundly. When he woke up, he was still a bit dazed, instinctively muttering “Brother.”
He sat up on his knees, a spoiled expression on his face, and reached out his arms, calling softly: “Brother.”
He waited for a long time, but the habitual hug never came. Shen Congbai’s arms were beginning to ache. He suddenly snapped his eyes open, and his entire demeanor deflated instantly.
He had almost forgotten he was at Feng Yu’s house. There was no Shen Que here.
Immersed in his dejection, he didn’t notice the door opening a crack. Light spilled in, and in the next instant, Shen Congbai was pulled into a firm embrace.
Feng Yu’s teasing voice came from above: “So spoiled. Still haven’t gotten over the habit of needing a hug when you wake up?”
Shen Congbai’s gloom was instantly dispelled by Feng Yu’s words. His cheeks flushed, and he honestly didn’t push the man away.
Actually, in those three years abroad, he had gradually forgotten this bad habit, but after returning to the country, Shen Que had brought it back. Shen Congbai felt a bit embarrassed and buried his head in Feng Yu’s neck, muttering, “Then let go of me.”
Feng Yu laughed out loud. “If I let go, will you throw a tantrum and ignore me like you used to?”
Shen Congbai was clearly reminded of the past. He tried to hide even further. Back then, being young and ignorant, he had left too many “dark history” moments with Feng Yu.
When they first lived together, Feng Yu didn’t know about Shen Congbai’s “young master” habits and often got slapped for no reason. Shen Congbai was also proud; he’d spend a week sulking in silence before finally delivering a “Whap!” kick to Feng Yu’s handsome face on a Saturday morning. (The part where his foot got caught and kissed was a story for another time).
Feng Yu had woken up to find his little boyfriend sitting beside him with a cold little face, looking at him with a conflicted, palm-sized expression. Perhaps his “waking-up grumpiness” hadn’t faded; his eyes were red, like a haughty kitten. He’d spread his arms with an arrogant look, his voice still lazy from sleep: “I want a hug.”
Too cute! Feng Yu suppressed the urge to roll the boy into a ball and squeeze him. With a calm face, he pulled the boy into his arms. The tiny figure fit perfectly into the empty space in his embrace. Both of them shared the hug in tacit silence.
Because they were in different years and majors, they rarely woke up at the same time. But what Shen Congbai found magical was that every time he woke up, he saw Feng Yu’s figure and had breakfast promptly handed to him.
Even if Shen Congbai had started the relationship with a playful mindset, Feng Yu with his patience and sincerity had managed to carve out a place for himself in Shen Congbai’s heart.
