- Chapter 23 - Feng Yu, Can You Do Me a Favor?
Shen Congbai suddenly burst into laughter. His fingertips dug deep into Jiang Yan’s arm as he abruptly propped up his upper body and delivered a fierce bite to Jiang Yan’s Adam’s apple.
Jiang Yan let out a muffled groan. Instead of recoiling, he pulled Shen Congbai even closer by the back of the neck, his grip firm. “Is a bite here enough?” he rasped. “Do you want to bite me somewhere else?”
“Wuu…” Shen Congbai increased the pressure. His canines punctured the thin skin, and the metallic taste of blood flooded his mouth, trickling down his throat and into his very soul.
Sensing Jiang Yan’s body shift, Shen Congbai thought he was trying to flee. A flash of ruthlessness crossed his eyes as he wrapped his arms entirely around the man’s body, his jaw trembling with a force that seemed intent on tearing away a piece of flesh.
Jiang Yan gave a low laugh. The vibration of his vocal cords sent a tingle through Shen Congbai’s heart. Jiang Yan shifted the boy’s lips to the side, pressing his pale mouth firmly against his pulse. Beneath the skin, Jiang Yan’s carotid artery throbbed slowly so fragile that a single, forceful tear would send the blood spraying forth.
He thought dazed: So even a person like Jiang Yan has such a vulnerable spot?
Jiang Yan stroked his face, his eyes filled with obsession. “Young Master, bite here. This spot is easier to get a grip on than the last; it won’t tire you out.”
There was no hint of resentment in his words only an abnormal excitement. The mere thought of his blood being swallowed by Shen Congbai, flowing through his veins and into his heart, made him tremble with ecstasy.
Shen Congbai cursed, “Madman.”
Strands of blood from the bite still stained his lips. Jiang Yan chuckled, lowering his face until it was barely an inch from Shen Congbai’s.
He inhaled the scent of iron on the boy’s breath and spoke slowly, “I am a madman. Young Master, I went mad because of you. You have to take responsibility.”
He licked Shen Congbai’s lips with a feverish intensity, his breath mingling with the boy’s. “You can’t just throw me away and ignore me. Even in death, you have to take me with you.”
Jiang Yan’s presence was too aggressive; it completely dominated Shen Congbai’s personal space until he nearly forgot his own rhythm of breathing. The arms behind him were like unyielding vines, binding the two of them into a single, inseparable knot.
Shen Congbai tried to pull away, but the moment he moved even a fraction, his waist was seized and he was slammed back against Jiang Yan’s chest.
By the time they both collapsed back onto the hospital bed, Shen Congbai was utterly exhausted, his waist still encircled by a pair of powerful arms.
He finally compromised. “I promise you. I won’t leave you alone.”
He’s a madman I created myself; it’s only right he torments me. If I let him loose, who knows who else he might destroy?
Hearing this, Jiang Yan immediately rolled over, pressing his weight slightly onto Shen Congbai. He nuzzled the boy’s collarbone like a large dog, then lifted his head. His hair fell messily over his forehead, obscuring his deep brow and leaving only his reddened eyes visible.
He spoke piteously: “But Young Master, I can’t leave Port A. If I die, will I see you in hell?”
Shen Congbai remained silent. Jiang Yan felt as if his heart were being seared in a frying pan; the pain was agonizing.
Finally, a second before Jiang Yan could spiral into another fit, Shen Congbai pulled the man’s head into a firm embrace and let out a short, choked-up sob. “I will let you live.”
What he owed Jiang Yan, he would repay in this life. He thought to himself that if he died, he would beg the Ox-Head and Horse-Face not to take him for reincarnation. He’d rather be a lonely ghost. He had spent his whole life cooped up in hospital wards, bored to tears; in death, he could finally see all the sights he had missed.
Shen Congbai spoke suddenly: “I’m a bit hungry. Can you go buy me something to eat?”
Taking advantage of Jiang Yan’s absence, Shen Congbai used the man’s phone to dial Feng Yu. He lowered his eyes, masking the bitterness within.
Jiang Yan was trapped in Port A primarily because Feng Yu wanted to suppress the Shen family. If Jiang Yan were to escape, only Feng Yu aside from Shen Que could make it happen.
The call connected. Shen Congbai was the first to speak: “Hello, Feng Yu.”
Feng Yu’s brow furrowed as he glanced at the number on the screen. “Shen Congbai?”
Hearing that familiar voice, Shen Congbai’s eyes stung. “Can you do me a favor?”
Feng Yu let out a low laugh. “Does the little Young Master of the Shen family actually have something he needs my help with?”
Shen Congbai felt a wave of intense humiliation. His fingernails dug into the phone as he choked out, “Yes.”
“If… if it’s inconvenient, then never mind.” He wiped his eyes, his voice sounding piteously low as an involuntary sob escaped him.
“Shen Congbai, are you crying?”
The sobbing on the other end grew more frequent. Feng Yu frowned, his voice full of concern. “Who upset you? Why are you crying so hard?”
Hearing Feng Yu’s voice, he cried even harder. It was as if all the frustrations of the past few days had finally found an outlet. He let it all out in front of Feng Yu.
“No one upset me,” Shen Congbai pursed his lips. “If you don’t want to help, forget it. I’m hanging up.”
Feng Yu couldn’t stand it when the boy cried. He began to coax him in a low, humble voice. “Tell me what’s going on first. Did your brother take you to Port A?”
Shen Congbai shook his head. “I came here by myself.”
Feng Yu practically exploded. He immediately grabbed his car keys and headed for the door. “What are you doing in Port A alone? What the hell is Shen Que doing? Does he really need you to go to Port A to handle business?”
A place like Port A… if a person like Shen Congbai went there, he’d likely be snatched away by someone with bad intentions the moment he stepped out of the airport.
“It has nothing to do with him,” Shen Congbai murmured. “I came on my own.”
Slam! Feng Yu shut the car door. He frowned. “Shen Que didn’t stop you?”
“I’m not his biological brother. It’s normal for him not to care about me.”
Once he said it, Shen Congbai felt as if the massive boulder that had been crushing his chest had suddenly shattered. He had never felt so light. He clutched his chest in a daze. Is it because it’s Feng Yu? Saying it to him actually wasn’t as painful as I imagined.
Feng Yu, who had just finished booking a flight to Port A, replied, “Where did you hear such a rumor? The Shen family might be trash, but they aren’t so incompetent they’d lose track of their own son.”
“No. It’s not a rumor.” Shen Congbai’s voice was hoarse from crying. “I’ve already found him, but he’s trapped in Port A. I want your help to bring him back to Kyoto.”
“…Does Shen Que know about your identity?”
“He’s known for a long time, but he’s been keeping it from me. He even… he even forced his own brother to Port A.”
Feng Yu’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. He let out a sudden, mocking laugh. “No wonder.”
No wonder he always felt something was off about the way Shen Que and Shen Congbai interacted their relationship was so strictly controlled and overly intimate.
He told Shen Congbai: “I’ve just contacted my people in Port A. Go stay with them for now, and wait for me to come get you.”
Shen Congbai felt a warmth in his heart. “I’m in the hospital right now. I’m not in any danger for the moment, so you don’t need to arrange anyone.” A small smile touched his face, and his tone brightened. “Thank you, Feng Yu.”
Just then, Jiang Yan returned. He opened the door only to see Shen Congbai holding the phone, smiling as he called out Feng Yu’s name.
His footsteps faltered. His eyes narrowed dangerously as he spoke slowly:
“Young Master, who are you talking to?”
