The Sickly Beauty Beta Got Pregnant After A Political Marriage - Chapter 14
Wen Xiuheng gently put the slippers back on the youth’s feet. When he looked up, the darkness in his eyes was once again concealed deep within his gaze. He didn’t want to frighten his “little friend” too early.
With a gentle smile, Wen Xiuheng stood up and naturally rested his large hand on the crown of Shen Jiayu’s head. Soft, rose-colored strands of hair slid through his well-defined fingers. Steadying his mind, Wen Xiuheng said in a husky voice, “Be good. Take a break before we continue.”
After resting and practicing one more time, Wen Xiuheng announced that today’s practice could end. There was still some time before the banquet, so there was no need to rush; they could take it slow.
Over the next few days, as long as they had time after dinner, they would spend a while practicing.
Wen Xiuheng was always an incredibly patient teacher, never sparing with his praise, and Shen Jiayu learned more and more.
Shen Jiayu truly cared about this dance. He didn’t want Wen Xiuheng to lose face because of him.
In his university art history class, the professor played some historical footage that happened to feature clips of social dances. The people in the film were dressed in magnificent clothes, facing each other, following the music as they moved forward, backward, and turned… Shen Jiayu watched, somewhat entranced.
When the lecture ended, it was time to head home. Shen Jiayu walked out of the teaching building with Yin Youning. Behind them, a tall Alpha male called out to them.
“Shen Jiayu!” Fang Yizhou quickly caught up. “We’re having a mixer dinner tomorrow night. Are you free to come join the fun?”
Shen Jiayu pointed to himself in surprise and asked, “…Me?”
Fang Yizhou nodded vigorously with expectation. “Yeah, someone had a last minute conflict and can’t make it. Could I ask you to come and save the day?” He made a “please” gesture with his hands pressed together.
Beside them, Yin Youning silently rolled his eyes. Please, that excuse is way too lame. If you want to ask our little Jiayu out, just say it.
Fang Yizhou was a student from the neighboring law school. The three of them had been in the same interest club last semester, so they knew each other.
Yin Youning cleared his throat awkwardly, prompting Fang Yizhou to look over in confusion.
With an apologetic expression, Shen Jiayu said directly, “I’m sorry, I have plans tomorrow night, so I can’t attend.”
“Ah, I see…” Fang Yizhou’s face immediately fell into a look of disappointment. He mumbled, “Well, nothing can be done then. You stay busy, haha.”
Shen Jiayu gave an apologetic smile, and Fang Yizhou turned to leave.
Yin Youning immediately started gossiping: “Fang Yizhou is so strange. Doesn’t he know you already have a husband? Why is he still trying to ask you out?”
Hearing the word “husband,” Shen Jiayu couldn’t help but blush again.
Yin Youning continued to himself, “Little Jiayu, you reacted so fast. Coming up with an excuse and rejecting him so cleanly and decisively.”
Shen Jiayu said in a tiny voice, “It wasn’t an excuse. I really do have something to do…”
Tomorrow, he was going to practice dancing with Mr. Wen.
Of course, even if he didn’t have plans, he wouldn’t have agreed.
“You really have plans?” Yin Youning was surprised at first, then dawned with an “I get it” expression, laced with a bit of annoyance. “Looks like it’s related to your husband again.”
On Shen Jiayu’s last birthday, Yin Youning had prepared a gift and a blessing, but that day, Shen Jiayu was taken to the beach by that Alpha. He could only deliver the gift a day late.
Shen Jiayu pursed his lips and told him about learning to dance with Mr. Wen recently.
Listening to Shen Jiayu’s description of the Alpha, Yin Youning almost bit his tongue. That level of patience didn’t sound like something that kind of Alpha would do at all.
Mentioning the dance, Shen Jiayu couldn’t help but recall the social dance clips he had seen in class earlier. They seemed slightly different from what Mr. Wen was teaching him. Perhaps the steps had changed over time.
During this period, under Mr. Wen’s tutelage, he had basically learned the entire dance. Although he wasn’t very proficient yet, it should be better if he practiced more later…
Lost in thought for a moment, he failed to notice an uneven spot on the ground. Suddenly losing his balance, his body tilted to one side. A sharp, intense pain shot through his ankle, and Shen Jiayu’s face instantly turned pale.
Yin Youning was quick and caught him. Seeing Shen Jiayu’s expression, he knew he had accidentally injured himself.
Yin Youning asked worriedly where it hurt and if he was okay.
Frowning, his small face white, Shen Jiayu said it seemed like he had sprained his ankle.
Without another word, Yin Youning prepared to carry him to the school infirmary on his back.
Despite the pain in his ankle, looking at his friend’s thin frame, Shen Jiayu hesitated to climb on.
At that moment, the driver waiting nearby came running over. He had noticed Master Shen walking over and was about to get out to greet him when he saw this scene.
“Master Shen, did you sprain your foot?” the driver asked worriedly.
Shen Jiayu raised his pale face, called out “Uncle Li,” and nodded.
Uncle Li was heartbroken. Although he always called him “Master Shen,” in reality, Shen Jiayu didn’t have a trace of a spoiled brat about him, he was always gentle, polite, and well-behaved.
Uncle Li immediately helped Yin Youning support Shen Jiayu into the car, intending to take him to the hospital immediately. Yin Youning went along with them.
On the way, Uncle Li wanted to call Wen Xiuheng to report the incident.
Initially, Shen Jiayu wanted to avoid disturbing Mr. Wen’s work, not wanting to cause trouble for him.
But Uncle Li said honestly that on the first day he was put in charge of picking up and dropping off Shen Jiayu, Master Wen had said that if there was any emergency, he must be informed immediately.
At the Wen Group project meeting, the Alpha listened to the report expressionlessly. The surrounding executives were all solemn, sitting upright and still.
Until a vibrating ringtone sounded.
Wen Xiuheng answered the phone. After listening, a look of worry and heartache appeared on his face.
The Alpha slightly furrowed his handsome brow and said in a deep voice, “That’s all for today’s meeting.”
Having said that, he strode out of the meeting room, leaving his subordinates staring at each other in bewilderment.
Zhou Yi followed him out. As Wen Xiuheng walked, he gave instructions for post-meeting matters and then left quickly.
Zhou Yi: What happened to the boss?
Thinking again, Zhou Yi almost immediately had a guess. Something must have happened to Master Shen. Otherwise, the boss wouldn’t be in such a hurry. This was the first time he had seen the boss like this; except for Master Shen, no one else could make the boss rush over so urgently.
When Wen Xiuheng arrived at the hospital, it happened to be Shen Jiayu’s turn to see the doctor.
The tall Alpha arrived travel worn, with an impressive height and exceptionally handsome looks. Dressed in a black overcoat and suit, Wen Xiuheng was particularly eye-catching in the crowd. The natural coldness and aura of pressure he carried made passersby instinctively clear a path.
Wen Xiuheng walked toward Shen Jiayu. Uncle Li and Yin Youning had been sitting on either side of him in the waiting area. Hearing the number called, they were about to help him up when Wen Xiuheng appeared before them.
With long eyelashes trembling, Shen Jiayu called out softly, “Mr. Wen.”
Wen Xiuheng nodded slightly to the other two and said deeply, “Thank you for your hard work. I will take Jiayu in.”
Uncle Li and Yin Youning nodded.
Wen Xiuheng stepped to Shen Jiayu’s side, stroked the youth’s soft hair with his large hand, and said gently, “Jiayu, I’ll carry you in.”
“Okay…” The youth obediently lowered his eyes.
With one hand supporting the youth’s thin back and the other under his knees, Shen Jiayu was once again easily lifted into the Alpha’s arms.
Shen Jiayu lightly wrapped his arms around the side of the Alpha’s neck, his cheek pressed against the man’s chest, slowly lowering his somewhat dim eyes.
A kind, elderly doctor received them. The doctor carefully examined Shen Jiayu’s swollen ankle and told them the problem wasn’t very serious. No bones were injured; it was just a soft tissue injury. Some medicine and a few days of rest would suffice.
The heart that had been anxious since the trip to the hospital finally relaxed. It was his own carelessness that caused the injury. If it were serious and he couldn’t continue practicing the dance, what would he do?
Coming out of the clinic, Wen Xiuheng had Uncle Li prepare a wheelchair for assistance. Hearing that the injury wasn’t serious, Yin Youning also breathed a sigh of relief.
Afterward, Wen Xiuheng arranged for Uncle Li to take Yin Youning home while he took Shen Jiayu back.
As Wen Xiuheng helped Shen Jiayu into the wheelchair, Shen Jiayu lowered his eyes and apologized softly to the Alpha: “I’m sorry, Mr. Wen. It was my carelessness that sprained my foot and caused you trouble…”
A low sigh came from the man above him. A large palm cupped the youth’s small chin, gently forcing him to look up.
“Jiayu, to you, who am I?”
“Mr. Wen, you are…” Shen Jiayu murmured, stunned.
The elder who often protected him, the partner in his contract marriage, his… “husband.”
Being stared at fixedly by those silver-gray eyes, Shen Jiayu unconsciously bit his lip, making his pale cherry-colored lips turn bright red in an instant.
“Be good, don’t bite,” the Alpha’s eyes darkened. His thumb gently brushed the edge of the youth’s lip as he said huskily, “Drop the surname and call me again.”
Wen Xiuheng’s voice was low and deep, carrying a hint of coaxing, yet it was an order that brooked no refusal.
The Alpha’s gaze and voice at this moment made Shen Jiayu’s heart tremble slightly.
Confusion flickered in Shen Jiayu’s rose-colored eyes. Subconsciously obeying the Alpha’s words, he used a very, very soft voice to call out: “…Husband.”
“Mhm.” Wen Xiuheng gave a satisfied smile, his voice husky as he responded, his gaze deepening.
“I am your ‘husband.’ There is no such thing as ‘bringing trouble.’ Taking care of you is something I do willingly.” Wen Xiuheng gently caressed his cheek. “You can lean on me anytime. Do you understand, Jiayu?”
Shen Jiayu was momentarily stunned, not knowing how to answer. After a while, he still nodded obediently.
After returning from the hospital, Shen Jiayu was requested by Wen Xiuheng to rest at home for two days. During those two days, the swelling in his ankle subsided quite a bit.
On the third day, Shen Jiayu asked Wen Xiuheng in a soft voice if he could go to school for classes. There was a landscape teaching class he loved in the morning, and he didn’t want to miss it.
Back on his birthday, the painting he did at Ashe Beach with Wen Xiuheng had taken first place in the department’s grade assignment. He had shared that news with Wen Xiuheng very happily at the time.
Back then, Wen Xiuheng had done as he always did, stroking his head, brushing his face, and saying, “Well done.”
Shen Jiayu thought that habit was a truly magical thing. Unconsciously, he seemed to have grown accustomed to Mr. Wen’s gestures. When he first met Mr. Wen, he had been flustered and at a loss.
Of course, Shen Jiayu was still slowly adapting to the new form of address, “Husband.” Just now, when he wanted to call him Mr. Wen, his mouth had habitually started to form the “W” sound, but he had forced himself to stutteringly change it to “You” (formal).
Facing Shen Jiayu’s request to attend class, Wen Xiuheng looked into the youth’s expectant eyes and eventually agreed, but on one condition.
Wen Xiuheng would personally take him there.
They chose a time when there were fewer students on campus. After arriving at the school, Wen Xiuheng showed the guard the visitor’s pass he had prepared in advance and entered smoothly.
“You… just turn left.” Shen Jiayu sat in the wheelchair, being pushed by Wen Xiuheng from behind, giving him directions to the teaching building.
“Mhm,” Wen Xiuheng responded slowly. It seemed his little friend would need more time to get used to the new title.
Wen Xiuheng pushed Shen Jiayu to the first floor of the comprehensive teaching building, where the class was to be held.
As the two arrived at the classroom door, Fang Yizhou happened to pass by. He was originally heading to a different class on the third floor, but seeing Shen Jiayu in a wheelchair, he immediately walked over.
“Shen Jiayu, are you injured? What happened?” Fang Yizhou frowned, while simultaneously casting a wary look at the man standing beside Shen Jiayu.
The other man was dressed in a suit, very tall, exceeding 190cm. Standing before this man, the 181cm Fang Yizhou felt significantly shorter.
The man was currently looking at him with a seemingly indifferent gaze. Although he didn’t say a word, his natural aura of pressure and intimidation was incredibly strong. Fang Yizhou was certain the other was an Alpha like himself, and a higher-level Alpha at that.
Shen Jiayu said politely, “I accidentally sprained my foot. It’s not very serious. Thank you for your concern.”
Fang Yizhou’s brow remained furrowed. Two days ago, when he wanted to ask Shen Jiayu out, his foot was fine. How did he get hurt so suddenly? Could it be…
He had heard rumors of Shen Jiayu being forced into a marriage with a ruthless, cold Alpha. He had even heard recently that the Alpha had come to their school, but he always believed seeing was believing. He had feelings for Shen Jiayu and hadn’t seen those rumors with his own eyes, so he hadn’t believed them.
But now, with Shen Jiayu mysteriously injured, he couldn’t help but link it to that Alpha. Was it related?
“There’s no danger around you, is there?” Fang Yizhou lowered his voice to ask Shen Jiayu, then glanced at the Alpha beside him with suspicion and caution. “Is he someone sent to.”
Fang Yizhou wanted to say the word “monitor,” but considering the person was right there, he reminded him subtly: ” a bodyguard following you?”
A look of surprise instantly appeared on Shen Jiayu’s face. The Alpha standing beside him also imperceptibly raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement adding to his indifferent expression as he looked at Fang Yizhou.
Fang Yizhou suddenly felt he had seen through the truth of the whole matter. He was basically certain that the person was sent by that cold-blooded Alpha to monitor Shen Jiayu. He felt that as long as Shen Jiayu nodded in admission, he would immediately shield Shen Jiayu behind him and then righteously recite legal statutes to the man opposite them, telling them that no one could restrict another’s personal freedom in any way, let alone force a marriage against someone’s will.
Fang Yizhou stared intently at Shen Jiayu’s reaction, even secretly moving closer to Shen Jiayu, intending to start protecting him immediately.
Three seconds of dead silence passed, what seemed to Fang Yizhou like the brief moment before a storm.
The next second.
Shen Jiayu frowned slightly, his expression serious and his voice firm as he said.
“This is my husband.”
Fang Yizhou: ???!!!
