- Chapter 9 - Fake Young Master Alpha x Real Young Master Alpha (9)
The band EMBER is a rock group consisting of five Alphas. They have been established at Morristy Academy for three years. Thanks to the members’ exceptional looks and high-quality music, they have garnered a significant following.
Students have even created a dedicated discussion section for the band on the school forum, complete with official support colors and a designated support flower.
There is also a long-standing tradition: at the conclusion of a performance, fans throw flowers into the air toward their favorite members as a substitute for a confession of love. While the origin of this custom is lost to time, students now spontaneously head to the West Street flower shop before every concert to collect a bouquet of Flame Lilies.
Naturally, the flowers are free of charge.
For a nine o’clock evening performance, the flower shop was already packed to the point of being impassable by nine o’clock in the morning. This was not even a weekend.
Pei Yingjue looked at the layers of crowds and frowned slightly. He did not like shoving his way into throngs of people; crowded places tended to make him feel disheveled and pathetic. However, if he did not squeeze forward with the current now, he feared he would not be able to get a bouquet even after the show ended.
Pei Yingjue sighed and squeezed into the crowd as if resigning himself to fate.
He was not particularly interested in rock music, but he could understand why so many people liked this band. After all, he had eyes and could see that the members’ looks were top-tier. The fact that Su Yi served as the drummer was proof enough of that.
“Are you a fan of the lead singer? I love her so much too!”
One of the downsides of being squeezed into a crowd is being forced to overhear others’ conversations. As people nearby looked over because of an Omega’s comment, Pei Yingjue sighed inwardly. This conversation was destined not to end quickly.
“She has the face of a celebrity and sings so well. It is hard not to like her,” a student chimed in.
“The bassist is really handsome too, and he is super kind!”
“I think so too!”
“Do you guys not think the guitarist is a total pro? His technical skills are incredible! He does not seem like an amateur at all!”
“Right, right!”
As the crowd moved forward, Pei Yingjue followed closely, forced to listen to the fans’ praises for a long time. However, as the sentences went on, he gradually began to frown.
Why was no one discussing the drummer?
“The drummer is very talented too, right? His face is so dazzling it is hard not to notice him,” Pei Yingjue interjected, looking up.
As his words fell, the people who had been discussing fell silent. The silence was awkward. After a moment, the fan who started the conversation broke the deadlock: “But “…” he does not have any pheromones.”
“It is a pity. His looks and abilities are quite good,” someone echoed.
Pei Yingjue’s brow furrowed.
What is wrong with not having pheromones?
This time, no one voiced the same question he had because it was a publicly accepted fact: having no pheromones was worse than being a Beta. At least Betas did not have “special periods.”
The topic of Su Yi was quickly brushed aside, becoming an interlude not worth mentioning.
Pei Yingjue stopped listening to the others. It took a long time before the queue finally pushed him to the flower shop entrance.
“Student, please show your ticket,” the clerk reminded him.
Pei Yingjue had specifically searched the forum for performance notices before coming, so naturally, he had not forgotten it. He handed the ticket over as required.
The clerk raised an eyebrow at the ticket and handed him a packaged bouquet of Flame Lilies.
“Would you like to select another separate bouquet?” the clerk asked just as Pei Yingjue was about to leave.
“Select one separately?” Pei Yingjue looked at the flowers in his hand. Was this bouquet not enough?
The clerk seemed to see his confusion and explained with a smile, “Student, the ticket in your hand is a Supreme VIP ticket. After the performance, you can personally present a separate bouquet to your favorite member.”
“Because it is a special case, this might not have been written in the general notices. Of course, this bouquet is also free; it is a small surprise for the fans.”
“Would you like to choose one?”
Giving a bouquet personally “…”
Pei Yingjue rubbed the ticket in his hand. “Please, if you would.”
“No trouble at all.” The clerk waved toward the back of the shop, and soon another staff member came out to lead Pei Yingjue inside.
The overwhelming fragrance of flowers washed away the mixed scent of pheromones on Pei Yingjue’s body. The clerk led him to the EMBER section. Pei Yingjue scanned the area; most bouquets followed the band’s support colors, which were silver or red.
After looking for a while, Pei Yingjue asked, “Do you have photos of other bouquets? I will purchase one separately.”
“Of course.” The clerk quickly brought out a catalog.
Pei Yingjue took it and looked through the bouquets one by one, his brow furrowing slightly. Seeing his hesitation, the clerk suggested, “You can also hand-wrap a bouquet according to the catalog. That way, it conveys your feelings even better.”
Convey feelings? He had not actually thought of it that way.
Su Yi had helped him a great deal, and he had to return the favor somehow. The bouquets in the dedicated section and the catalog did not quite suit Su Yi. If you are giving a gift, it should be a unique one.
But there was no need to explain all this to a clerk. Pei Yingjue closed the catalog.
“Okay.”
“It is very beautiful! He will definitely like it!” the assistant clerk praised.
Pei Yingjue wiped the sweat from his forehead, looking at the finally completed white and purple bouquet. He had chosen White Lisianthus and Ocean Song Roses as the main flowers; the result was quite good.
That is, if you ignored the failed attempts.
This was Pei Yingjue’s first time arranging flowers. It looked simple, but the actual practice was exhausting. Selecting the right blooms was hard enough, let alone wrapping them into an ideal bouquet with the proper height and shape.
Looking at it this way, the flowers Su Yi had given him must have been arranged by a clerk. After all, the “Little Young Master” likely would not do something so troublesome himself.
Pei Yingjue paid for both the finished product and the wasted materials. Shielding the bouquet with his body, he walked out of the overcrowded flower shop.
At nine o’clock in the evening, by the White Bird Silver Moon Lake.
Pei Yingjue took his seat in the first row according to his ticket number, looking at the natural stage on the lake. It was a base made of marble, with lifelike white birds carved on the edges, seemingly ready to take flight.
Pei Yingjue had never been to the Silver Moon Lake at night. Firstly, this was because the stage stood on the water and was rarely open for student safety. Secondly, this was because the area was one only certain nobles could visit. As a scholarship student, he could not enter the inner grounds and could only watch from afar.
Thus, it was his first time discovering that at night, this place was so dazzling.
As the moonlight fell, the marble became pure white at a specific angle, as if silver light was pouring down from the heavens, turning the water into a bright moon. The birds rose toward the light, soaring past the moon.
Before Pei Yingjue could appreciate the view further, the lights snapped on, and white smoke slowly drifted across the stage and dissipated on the water.
Earsplitting screams erupted. Pei Yingjue looked up to see tall Alphas stepping onto the stage from the stone path over the water, tilting their heads and waving to the fans.
Because he was in the first row, Pei Yingjue immediately saw Su Yi at the end of the line: a Su Yi who was completely different from before.
His smooth hair had been styled into small curls, and the tips were either dyed or sprayed red. His already captivating eyes had a layer of fine glitter at the corners; with every move, it was hard to look away. His right ear bore not only the bone stud from the night before but also a sparkling earring.
Compared to the changes in his hair and jewelry, Su Yi’s clothing was simpler: a sleeveless denim vest paired with black trousers, much more restrained than the others.
Pei Yingjue watched as Su Yi waved to the fans with a faint smile, seemingly aware that he was not particularly popular. His calm gaze swept through the rows of the audience until it landed on him.
It was like a pebble dropping into a lake.
Su Yi suddenly crinkled his eyes, seemingly unsurprised by his arrival. Before Pei Yingjue could think further, he saw Su Yi raise his hand high and wave toward him. The oversized vest shifted with his movement, revealing the inner layer: a tight-fitting fishnet shirt.
Coincidentally, another member made a move to interact with the crowd at that moment, sparking another wave of commotion. This made Pei Yingjue’s slight loss of composure appear quite normal.
He was so stupid. He was stupid enough to think Su Yi was just some well-behaved young master.
Pei Yingjue tugged at his collar and watched the stage silently.
The performance began.
Brilliant lights, catchy music, and the lead singer standing in the center; Pei Yingjue’s gaze bypassed everyone else and landed on the youth surrounded by the drum kit. On that unique water stage, beams of light swept over the boy’s head and thin shoulders. He watched him raise his powerful arms and strike down heavily with all his might.
The red-tipped hair flew wildly. This was a Su Yi that Pei Yingjue had never seen before.
Bold and vibrant; he was a dazzling star who was born to stand under the spotlight.
The originally noisy music suddenly became a wondrous movement, drawing Pei Yingjue to watch the boy on stage until the drumbeats synchronized with his heartbeat, mixing together until they were indistinguishable.
After an unknown amount of time, with a final heavy strike of the drumsticks, the boy on stage suddenly looked up. Those beautiful grey eyes looked straight over, meeting Pei Yingjue’s gaze.
Almost in slow motion, colored lights swept across the water. Pei Yingjue watched the musicians leave their positions one by one, stepping onto the stone path toward the audience.
He watched Su Yi walk from the distant water until he was only three steps away.
As bouquets of Flame Lilies were thrown amidst the cheers, that stunningly beautiful face came closer and closer. Then, his hand, which was slick with sweat, was grabbed. Pei Yingjue saw the smile shimmering in the depths of those grey eyes.
“Let us run away,” Su Yi said to him.
And so, as the show was ending, the unpopular drummer pulled the equally unexpected scholarship student through the crowd. Against the rain of orange-red flowers, they ran far away.
They ran until the crowd was out of sight and the cheers were out of earshot. When the surroundings were silent, Su Yi stopped and gasped for breath, still holding Pei Yingjue’s hand tightly.
“I have wanted to do that for a long time!” Su Yi shouted gleefully.
Just like that, he turned back into the “Little Young Master” Pei Yingjue was familiar with.
“I am glad I did it before leaving the band, otherwise I would have regretted it for a long time. You probably do not know, but our band is breaking up; it will likely be after this performance. The reason is hard to say; it seems you do not need a special reason to break up a band. Differing views? Academic conflicts? Getting bored? Anyway, this was my last performance “…”
“I am glad you came,” Su Yi said fortunately.
Pei Yingjue looked at Su Yi leaning over, his hand still gripping his own tightly, and suddenly asked, “Would it not be the same if someone else came?”
Su Yi shook his head. “Of course it would not be the same.”
Pei Yingjue did not respond.
Su Yi raised an eyebrow at him. “Do you not already know?”
“Should I know?” Pei Yingjue said indifferently.
Su Yi chuckled. He did not continue the topic but instead looked at the bouquet Pei Yingjue was shielding. “I did not know you brought flowers. Do you want me to take you to our practice room? They should be heading there soon to put their things away.”
“Since you ran out like this, what about the people who wanted to give you flowers?” Pei Yingjue asked another question instead of answering.
Su Yi shrugged. “No one would give me flowers.”
Pei Yingjue frowned at his calm tone.
“That is why I felt safe coming out with you,” Su Yi said nonchalantly with a smile. “I am not the kind of jerk who would let someone’s feelings go to waste.”
“No need,” Pei Yingjue said suddenly.
“What?”
The response Su Yi received was the bouquet being thrust before his eyes.
“This bouquet is for you.”
Pei Yingjue watched Su Yi’s stunned expression as he failed to react for a long time. The questions that had been piling up in his heart suddenly felt blocked, and he could not ask them.
Only one thought remained in Pei Yingjue’s mind: I should have given him these flowers before we ran away.
