- Chapter 18 - Licking Tears
Chi Wenqiu’s gaze flickered slightly as he avoided the question. “Why would you have such a thought?”
“I apologize; perhaps I have simply read too many novels. I thought maybe Xiao Qiu carried something called a ‘System’ and was forced to perform tasks just to survive. I want to fit in with the younger generation’s interests too. Why, does Xiao Qiu not enjoy novels?”
“I do not have much time for leisure.” Since following Qu Sinian, Chi Wenqiu had not had a single minute of his time to call his own. His every move was under the man’s surveillance. Aside from the thoughts inside his head, Qu Sinian controlled almost every aspect of his life.
“Your tone sounds a bit like a complaint.”
“I would not dare.” Weakness was his reflexive response, yet Chi Wenqiu’s heart remained unruffled. He only thought about ending this tedious relationship as soon as possible.
He did not want to perform this mandatory task anymore. He did not want to see Qu Sinian at all.
Whenever he felt resistance, he would purse or bite his lower lip. When Qu Sinian saw this, he would usually lift Chi’s chin and kiss him without hesitation, kissing him until his face was flushed and his eyes shimmered with watery light before letting him go. This time was different. Qu Sinian acted like a clumsy youth who did not know the meaning of restraint. The kiss lacked any technique; it was pure brute force, sucking until the flesh of his lips went numb and old wounds reopened.
As Chi Wenqiu resisted, he suddenly heard a command: “Chi Wenqiu, kiss me.”
Before he could react, his body instinctively leaned in to comply. It was the ultimate betrayal of his physical form over his will. He closed his eyes in self-loathing.
Qu Sinian let out a soft chuckle. Then, a sharp pain stung his lip. Chi Wenqiu was retaliating.
“Starting today, we are no longer in a superior-subordinate relationship.” Chi Wenqiu was pushed down onto the sofa, his collar inadvertently falling open to reveal a broad expanse of delicate, ivory skin. Qu Sinian kissed him, starting from his furrowed brow and moving down to the tip of his nose and his wounded lower lip. He said in a low, husky voice, “You can do anything you want. I will pursue you until you agree to marry me.”
[Ding! Status Corrected: You and the mission target are now in a pursued and pursuer relationship. You have the right to refuse unreasonable demands! Current Favorability: 90. Blackening Level: 100.]
Chi Wenqiu was momentarily dazed. He had not expected a man as dominant as Qu Sinian to show such vulnerability. His long legs were draped over the man’s shoulders, and the gaze Qu Sinian directed at him was full of deep affection. The physical friction was itchy and increasingly passionate.
The control over his body suddenly returned. Chi Wenqiu did not hesitate to swing his hand and deliver a slap. Qu Sinian did not dodge or hide; he took it head-on. He licked the blood from the corner of his mouth. After the initial shock, he let out a low laugh. “I did not realize Wenqiu harbored such deep resentment toward me. It does not hurt. Come, do it again.”
Chi Wenqiu showed no mercy, raising his hand for another cold slap. Qu Sinian caught it with his hand and affectionately kissed the back of his hand. “Your hand is already red from hitting. Let us take a break.”
“Slap!” Chi Wenqiu switched hands and struck again.
The two slaps landed evenly on both sides of the man’s face. Qu Sinian did not cry out in pain. His dark eyes watched Chi, whose breathing was slightly hurried, with a dangerous intensity. His knees pressed against the root of Chi’s thighs, forcing him into a humiliatingly open posture.
A damp patch stained the fabric. Chi Wenqiu was also crying.
Three years of working together, two years as bed-warmers, and one year of training.
Chi Wenqiu’s body had completely adapted to Qu Sinian. Whenever the man wished, every physiological thought of Chi Wenqiu’s would be laid bare; he had no privacy left. But it was not enough, not nearly enough. What Qu Sinian wanted was for Chi Wenqiu’s heart and soul to be dominated by him alone, without a single stray thought.
“Do not.”
Fragmented gasps were drowned out by more rhythmic sounds. His burning body remained flushed. Suddenly, a cold liquid fell onto his exposed chest. The extreme clash of cold and heat made Chi Wenqiu’s muscles tighten instantly.
The man involved let out a muffled groan and chuckled as he licked the liquid away bit by bit. The pungent scent of alcohol evaporated into the air thick with intimacy, accompanied by low, lingering moans.
Breakfast transitioned into lunch, and even then, it had not ended.
Qu Sinian became increasingly busy. The old butler had sent a middle-aged woman to serve them, but it was difficult for her alone to manage the vast, empty residence. When Chi Wenqiu felt bored, he would help with the cleaning.
He usually had no entertainment time for himself. After resigning from his job, his time suddenly became plentiful, and he did not know how to manage it. When Qu Sinian was home, he could provide some distraction, but since he spent most of his time at the company, Chi Wenqiu felt like a wife guarding an empty house.
Although his freedom was restricted, Qu Sinian fortunately had not confiscated all his communication devices. He had a phone, a computer, and many holographic projectors he usually would not have access to. It was clear that Qu Sinian had put a lot of effort into pleasing him.
What bothered Chi Wenqiu was that as the time he spent seeing Qu Sinian grew shorter, he suspected something major was about to happen.
One evening, they finally had a chance to share a dinner after a three-day gap. As soon as Qu Sinian returned, the meal was already set. He did not take off his suit jacket, appearing as though he intended to leave as soon as he finished eating.
Chi Wenqiu openly observed the man eating. Although the man had not received a formal higher education in his early years, it did not stop him from cultivating an elegant temperament in every gesture.
“If you do not know how to use your mouth to eat, I can feed you in another way.”
Chi Wenqiu ignored the suggestive joke and said, “If the elder Mr. Qu insists that you marry and have children, you should consider it. Carrying on the family line is important.”
The chopsticks were pressed onto the table with some force, making a crisp clacking sound. When Chi Wenqiu looked up again, the tall man had already walked over and lifted him up by one arm. He did not say a word, appearing as cold as a stone, yet the temperature where he gripped Chi’s wrist was burning hot, as if it would sear through skin to reach the bone.
“It hurts.”
Chi Wenqiu was roughly pressed onto the table, his raised hem revealing the enticing curves of his lower back. The delicious dishes were knocked to the floor. The servants had long since retreated, leaving the dining room empty except for the two of them. Even if Chi Wenqiu screamed at the top of his lungs, no one would come to save him.
But Chi Wenqiu would not scream. He bit his lower lip hard and kept his eyes shut tight.
“Does being with me disgust you that much?” A thumb rubbed aggressively against the corner of his eye. The man’s breath fanned over his face, and his gaze swept over every inch of skin in a rude and offensive manner. That silent, ever-ready rage lay in ambush beneath the skin and within the veins, waiting for a single spark to ignite it.
Chi Wenqiu’s words just now had nearly made him lose his mind.
Qu Sinian continued his deadly questioning: “Would you be happy to see me marry and have children with someone else? You cannot do this, Chi Wenqiu. You were the one who provoked me first, and now you want to pretend nothing happened and run away?”
Chi Wenqiu opened his eyes and looked at him. The man was silhouetted against the light, and the blinding chandelier overhead made physiological tears well up. His voice was as steady as usual: “Otherwise, the elder gentleman will expel you from the family and have the Young Master inherit the business. Do you want that to happen?”
Qu Sinian’s father was advanced in years but had not fully stepped down. He had fallen out with his son over a decade ago and expelled him, but that did not mean he had given up on his own blood. If he had not found it difficult to produce another heir for the Qu family later on, he might not have kept Qu Sinian, this unfilial son.
“I do not want that, but the blood in Qu Jing’s veins is not mine either.” Qu Sinian had adopted Qu Jing just to shut up his stubborn father. Secrets cannot be kept forever; the elderly father had known the truth for a long time and had simply turned a blind eye. But now that Qu Jing also knew, the nature of the situation had changed.
Compared to the aging, unfilial son Qu Sinian, who was tied down by a man, a university-student grandson was much easier to discipline. Qu Sinian knew that what his father lacked was merely a descendant to continue the family line, not any particular loved one.
“But he does not know that Qu Jing has also fallen in love with you. Otherwise, your life would be in danger.”
What seemed like imprisonment was actually protection.
Chi Wenqiu looked at the man with the faint nail marks on his face, his heart perfectly calm. “We agreed we were no longer in a superior-subordinate relationship, but you do not necessarily place me on the same level. I am still just your subordinate. When needed, I am a bed-warmer; when not, I am discarded. Correct?”
Tears clumped his eyelashes together and washed his eyes clear. Qu Sinian looked at his reflection in those eyes and felt a tightness in his chest. He attributed every abnormality to Chi Wenqiu.
He leaned down and kissed away the tears. “Do not cry, Chi Wenqiu.”
[Favorability +1!]
“I am trying to understand your heart, but you know I am not a reasonable man. If I take a step back, you will only want to leave.”
[Favorability +1!]
“My most impulsive thought right now is to break your arms and legs and keep you imprisoned in my arms forever, to gouge out those beautiful eyes so they can only see me. It is terrifying, is it not? I have had this dream many times. When I wake up, I am relieved you are still by my side. This feeling cannot be summarized as mere possessiveness. I think I like you.”
[Favorability +3. Current value is 95. Please keep up the good work, Host.]
The favorability score stopped fluctuating. Chi Wenqiu’s unfocused gaze refocused. “Like?”
After three years of entanglement, it was the first time he had heard the word “like” from Qu Sinian. The man was in his thirties and far more experienced than most. The more mature one is, the less likely they are to use such words lightly.
“Yes. So, how will you respond to me?” Qu Sinian stared intently at Chi Wenqiu’s face. He looked for a long time but unfortunately saw no change. Chi was pale and indifferent, like a sheet of pure white paper that could not hold any pigment.
At the same time, his heart was as hard as iron and could not be moved even slightly. He probably deserved to be hated; it was only natural to have emotions after being mysteriously locked away from the outside world.
Chi Wenqiu asked, “If the elder Head dies, will you let me go?”
“No.”
The reply was categorical, as if he intended to lock him up for a lifetime.
However, Chi Wenqiu would not waste his time.
