- Chapter 11 - Trending Search — Deliberately Letting the Fabric Slip From the Shoulder
That evening, while various entertainment companies were caught off guard, a trending topic quietly climbed the charts.
Sisters, look what I caught! First off, I’m a freelance photographer. I was wandering around aimlessly because I was stuck in a creative rut, and I never expected to see this. This is my true muse, ahhh!
Below the post was a photo. In the image were two people: one was a tall man in a black trench coat, and the other was about half a head shorter, with a thinner and more delicate frame, wearing a simple, clean hoodie.
The camera had perfectly captured the shorter boy’s face. He wore a faint, radiant smile, the corners of his eyes upturned with hidden mirth as he looked up slightly at the tall man. He was leaning forward in a proactive stance, reaching his hand toward the chest of the man in the trench coat.
His fingertips were obscured by the clothing, making it impossible to see their exact movements, but the curve of his exposed knuckles carried an undeniable air of flirtatiousness.
What made it even better was that only a small portion of the trench-coated man’s profile was visible, making him hard to identify. However, his hand made no move to stop the person in front of him. Instead, it was loosely hovering around the hoodie-wearing boy’s waist a subtle hint of possessiveness that hadn’t quite turned into a full embrace for various reasons.
The blogger already had a significant following, and as soon as this photo was posted, the comments section exploded with screams.
The angle is so perfect, the atmosphere is so beautiful! I’m shipping them, okay!
That tiny waist, that face, those fingers… hehe. Hurry, hurry, hurry! In three seconds, I want all the info on my new “wife,” ahhh!
XX Entertainment, what are you doing every day? Stop pushing those ugly, privileged “resource” guys and go find me some beauties like this instead! Do you hear me?!
Why is there only one photo? What about the next second? I want to see what happens next! Is there something my prestigious VIP status isn’t allowed to see?
I live for this height difference! Put your hand on him! You tall guy, you’re so useless! Your wife is literally seducing you, don’t you know how to lean down and kiss him?
The post gained more and more traffic until it hit the trending searches, attracting a crowd of passersby.
As the crowd grew, so did the number of people looking at the photo with magnifying glasses. Suddenly, amidst the sea of thirsty comments, someone struggled through the throng to point out:
Has no one noticed that the tall man’s trench coat looks very familiar? The brand READY KIKO is niche to begin with, and their spring collection has this exact style. The key is the design on the collar it’s a custom piece. As far as I know, there’s only one person in the entertainment industry who fits the bill.
WTF! Who are you trying to say? HW? It couldn’t be him, right? Isn’t he famous in the industry for having a private life that consists of nothing but filming and more filming?
Sisters, I went to search for HW’s event photos from this year, and I actually found the exact same coat. It matches! Look at the height; it really does look like him…
My feelings are complicated… what is wrong with the entertainment industry this year? First, someone’s black material gets leaked, and now the Film Emperor is caught on a secret date with a “little boyfriend.”
Not long after, the blogger deleted the post and the image. Passersby on the trending search were still commenting: Oh, they started deleting stuff. I’ve already saved everything.
A short while later, even the trending search terms were scrubbed clean. Not a single trace of information could be found.
The gossip-hungry crowd, now frustrated, migrated back to Mo Qinan’s negative trending search to vent their emotions, digging up even more of Mo Qinan’s “past deeds” in the process.
Song Mingjiao was woken up early in the morning by his secretary. Currently surrounded by a low-pressure aura, he sat in his office with even the cowlick on his head still uncombed.
The people from the Public Relations department looked left and right before finally turning their pleading gazes toward Secretary Zhang.
“President Song, it was my oversight. At the time, I only focused on clearing the private club and neglected the people outside, which led to this happening.”
Zhang Xuanzhan was indeed very self-reproachful. When he saw that trending search and the photo, he didn’t even have time to feel jealous over the intimacy between Song Mingjiao and He Wang; his mind was entirely filled with the need to pull the search and erase all traces.
The PR, operations, and promotion departments had worked overtime through the night. It took the whole night to get the public opinion under control and prevent anyone from uncovering Song Mingjiao’s identity for the time being.
Zhang Xuanzhan didn’t dare to imagine what would happen if this wasn’t handled well if it caused damage to Song Mingjiao’s reputation or affected other developments and decisions. Even resigning wouldn’t be enough to make up for it.
Song Mingjiao rested his face in both hands. The soft flesh of his cheeks was prominent due to the gesture. He had his eyes squinted as if resting his mind while listening to the reports from Zhang Xuanzhan and the others.
He had a slight case of morning grumpiness, but it wasn’t severe. He was just listening lazily; he wasn’t angry about the incident itself he just didn’t want to wake up early.
“Where’s the photo?” Song Mingjiao interrupted Zhang Xuanzhan.
Zhang Xuanzhan froze for a moment, clearly not expecting Song Mingjiao to ask for that first. Fortunately, they were well-prepared and had printed out all the materials last night.
“Right here, President Song.” Zhang Xuanzhan hurriedly handed the developed photo to Song Mingjiao.
Song Mingjiao scrutinized the photo for a moment and decided it was shot quite well; it managed to capture his beauty reasonably well.
In reality, he had just been handing a business card to He Wang, which was nowhere near as poetic as the gossipers imagined.
“That young girl you guys didn’t do anything to her, did you?”
“No, President Song. We only contacted her to delete the post and asked her not to spread the word any further.”
“Good. It just so happens I want to go play in the entertainment industry for a couple of days. Go make the arrangements.”
Song Mingjiao spoke in a casual tone, saying words that left Zhang Xuanzhan utterly bewildered.
“Yes… but, why the sudden desire to enter the entertainment industry?”
Song Mingjiao said half-jokingly, “Look, they’re all begging for me to debut in the comments. I just want to be a Bodhisattva and bless the masses.”
“Ah…”
“By the way, did the other person in the photo contact you?”
Song Mingjiao was, of course, referring to He Wang.
When mentioning this, Zhang Xuanzhan also found it strange. “No, He Wang’s manager never contacted me. Logically, celebrities should be more sensitive to this kind of exposure. Moreover, the public opinion was spreading… ahem, rumors. They shouldn’t have missed it.”
Song Mingjiao gave a meaningful smile and then said, “Fine, I see. You don’t need to worry about He Wang. Just arrange my ‘tour’ of the entertainment industry as I asked.”
After Song Mingjiao dismissed Zhang Xuanzhan, he reopened the friend interface on his phone and finally, belatedly, approved He Wang’s request.
He thought he would have to wait a while, but the person on the other side seemed to be online at all times, sending a message instantly.
HW: Mingjiao, may I call you that?
Song Mingjiao arched an eyebrow and typed back.
MOON: As you wish.
HW: Ahem, about the trending search last night… I’m sorry for involving you.
MOON: You said yesterday that the entertainment industry is very dangerous. I was so scared when I suddenly saw myself on the trending list QAQ. I didn’t sleep well all night worrying. I’m so afraid they’ll scold me.
In fact, Song Mingjiao had slept very soundly; Zhang Xuanzhan and the others wouldn’t have dared to wake the CEO in the middle of the night.
Seeing that the other side hadn’t replied and was stuck in a loop of typing and deleting, he typed again.
MOON: Where do you live? I’m afraid there will be paparazzi. I want to come find you.
MOON: Brother, is that okay?
The “is typing” status stopped. Then, after only a few seconds, a long string of address and door numbers was sent over.
So easy. He was the one giving lectures, but who was the one who was actually easy to trick?
Song Mingjiao gave a “tsk” and then happily set off toward the address.
“You just gave it to him?! That’s your home address! Aren’t you afraid of paparazzi tracking it and showing up at your door?!”
Manager Sister Zhang’s voice almost hit the ceiling.
“Didn’t we agree to resolve the trending search issue? He Wang, you wouldn’t let the studio take action to pull the search, but in just one night, the news was completely locked down. Do you know whose handiwork that was?!”
He Wang held two photos in his hand. One was the duo photo leaked yesterday, and the other was an old photo of Song Mingjiao and Mo Qinan though the half with Mo Qinan had been pettily cut off by He Wang.
As he traced the cheek of Song Mingjiao in the photo, he said, “But he said he wanted to see me.”
The manager choked.
“He even called me ‘Brother.’ He only ever called me that in my dreams.”
He Wang’s eyes shone with a blissful radiance, seemingly still intoxicated by the word “Brother.”
“…You’re hopeless. Good luck to you,” the manager said coldly before hanging up.
As the dial tone faded, the doorbell to He Wang’s house rang.
He Wang thought it was someone from the studio coming by again, so he went to open the door without thinking much.
“Is there something…?”
As He Wang spoke, he realized that the person standing outside the door was actually Song Mingjiao!
Perhaps because he came in a hurry, Song Mingjiao was only wearing a cream-colored knit sweater. It was very loose, even exposing half of his shoulder and collarbone. The hem of the sweater had a high-waisted, asymmetrical design.
On the left were several rows of bow-knots, with the fabric long enough to cover his thigh, swaying with the breeze and occasionally wrapping around the base of his thigh. The right side was slit all the way up to his waist, leaving his abdominal lines completely exposed, showing the slight rise and fall of his breathing.
The sudden shock of the surprise left He Wang unable to say any dignified words of welcome. His mind was only left with one thought:
Song Mingjiao came so quickly. Did he rush over right after sending the message?
It makes sense. Although Song Mingjiao is the CEO of a small entertainment company, he has never directly faced the chaos and fan-wars of the industry. He must have been terrified, right?
He Wang tried to maintain his gentlemanly etiquette, controlling his gaze so as not to look at the exposed skin.
But he couldn’t help it; his eyes accidentally drifted back to it.
He thought: Song Mingjiao is wearing so little, isn’t he cold?
Song Mingjiao watched He Wang’s daze with satisfaction.
Gotcha. He had meticulously crafted this look. If he hadn’t been in a rush, he would have admired himself in the mirror for half a day.
Song Mingjiao moved deliberately, letting the fabric on his shoulder slip down a bit further, revealing a rounded, fair, and slightly pinkish shoulder.
“Teacher He, aren’t you going to invite me in?”
