The Scummy Top Desperately Tries to Win Back His Ex After the Breakup - Chapter 7
Pei Youting’s response to this was a kiss.
Before he even had time to react, his two soft lips blocked all the words he did not have time to say. At that moment, only one thought remained in the mind of Jiang Zui, which was that he never knew a kiss could be like this.
The other man’s lips rubbed against his, and a flexible tongue slipped between his teeth like a swimming fish. It was warm and soft yet carried an undeniable aggression. The tip of the tongue flicked against his palate with extreme skill, causing a slight tingling sensation that made him shiver.
Pei Youting’s kissing style was something even a veteran of the dating scene would find difficult to handle, let alone a novice like Jiang Zui, who had never kissed anyone outside of using camera angles for acting. Before long, Jiang Zui felt a sense of trance due to the lack of oxygen. He did not even know when the kiss ended.
When they finally separated, their breaths were still intertwined. Pei Youting stared at him without blinking, as if he might lean in for another kiss at any moment, but he did not. Finally, he placed a light kiss on the burning cheek of Jiang Zui, a gesture as effortless as a promise.
The heart of Jiang Zui pounded wildly and took a long time to settle. He watched the rest of the movie like a passing blur until the ending credits rolled and the lights in the theater flickered on one by one.
A premiere naturally required the lead actors to take the stage for audience questions and interviews. Only then did Jiang Zui snap back to his senses. This was the first time he had received such treatment, so he followed behind the lead actors and the director onto the stage with a sense of trepidation.
The script was not particularly brilliant, but fortunately, the acting of the leads was solid. The movie did not disappoint the audience. Surprisingly, the most outstanding part of the film turned out to be Jiang Zui.
“Baby,” one female audience member shouted during the interview, showing her love for Jiang Zui without reservation. “I came here for my favorite actress, but the way you cried was truly beautiful.”
A male audience member stood up awkwardly and said, “I always thought I was a straight man, but seeing you cry made me suddenly feel that being with a man might not be impossible.”
The comments continued in this vein. One must admit that Director Chen had a sharp business mind. Before the movie was released, he had leaked a clip of the crying scene of Jiang Zui for promotion, which attracted a large group of fans who appreciated his looks. After the official release, combined with the effective marketing of the crew, it created a significant stir.
A prominent influencer on Weibo gave a sharp review after watching, stating that the plot was mediocre but the faces of the leads were quite good.
User A commented below, “What do you think about that crying scene of Jiang Zui?”
The influencer replied, “It is divine. I have watched it repeatedly.”
In an instant, large numbers of fans flooded the social media accounts of Jiang Zui. Xu Yan stared with wide eyes at the follower count that rose day and night, as if she could see a brilliant future ahead for him. She patted the shoulder of Jiang Zui and said with emotion, “You have finally made it.”
Not only Jiang Zui, but even the small, struggling company he was signed to began to rise in status because of his success. By some stroke of luck, the company was acquired by a long standing domestic entertainment giant. Upon investigation, it turned out to be a subsidiary of the Yan Corporation, the leader of the entertainment industry.
Suddenly, there was a massive leap in resources and investment. Major brands and new scripts came knocking on the door. Jiang Zui signed so many endorsements that his hands grew tired, and he read so many scripts that his eyes ached. He felt as if he were living in another world. In simpler terms, he thought, “My goodness, I actually have a day like this.”
However, this was only the beginning. News broke that the new drama of Xu Xizhe would air early next month, and the role of the third male lead, which was vacated by the disgraced actor Yu Song, was filled by Jiang Zui. The official social media account posted costume photos and behind the scenes footage. The ancient attire made Jiang Zui look as beautiful as a painting, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The official account took advantage of this visual appeal to fuel the hype for several days.
At this point, Jiang Zui was not yet a superstar, but he could certainly be called famous. However, with his popularity rising as fast as a rocket, it was impossible for others not to be envious.
It is common for people to both praise and insult others on the internet. Where there are true fans, there are inevitably haters. Jiang Zui had prepared himself for verbal abuse, but surprisingly, his public reputation was exceptionally good. Even the few negative comments disappeared the next day.
Later, for some unknown reason, information about his years as an extra was leaked. It showed him unable to access air conditioning in the sweltering summer, crouching in a corner and eating a cheap lunch box. He looked quite pitiful. The fans cried out in sympathy, and the public relations team took the opportunity to play up his hardships. Consequently, the rare negative comments became even scarcer.
Everything was going well, but for some reason, Jiang Zui felt strange. He asked Xu Yan many times in a roundabout way, but she always laughed it off or changed the subject, dodging his questions every time.
She said, “What are you afraid of? People get scolded because they behave poorly. You have a clear conscience, so why would anyone insult you? Is it not good that they are praising you? Are you looking for trouble? You are not a masochist.”
Jiang Zui was left speechless by her words. After thinking for a long time, he said, “Then why was the news about my time as an extra leaked now? The timing is just too coincidental.”
Xu Yan pointed a finger at him and said, “What are you thinking about all day? I think your life used to be so terrible that even God could not stand it anymore. God wants your career to be smooth and is giving you opportunities. Do we mortals dare to say no?”
As time passed, Jiang Zui stopped asking her, but he still felt a sense of unreality as if he were walking on air.
On the other side, Yan Wenhe angrily slammed a stack of documents onto the desk in front of Pei Youting. The loud bang sounded like a firework exploding in his face.
Pei Youting looked up at Yan Wenhe with some dissatisfaction and asked, “What are you doing?”
“You have the nerve to ask me what I am doing?” Yan Wenhe was furious. “You are mixing business with pleasure. You took all the best company resources and gave them to your sweetheart, leaving nothing but trash for everyone else.”
He grabbed a chair and sat backward in front of Pei Youting to list his grievances. “Do you know that because you took all the good stuff, I have nothing to give to my mistress? She has not given me a kind look for days, let alone let me into her bed. What if your brother gets sick from frustration? You are being unfair and disloyal.”
Pei Youting did not even bother to look up and said mockingly, “You cannot handle a couple of days of frustration? If you are that thirsty, be careful not to actually catch a disease. I own half the shares of this company. Do I not have the final say in who I give things to?”
“Yes, yes,” Yan Wenhe snorted. “The best public relations team, the best marketing, and resources that even first tier stars might not get. You are throwing cold, hard cash at him. You have not even actually slept with him yet, have you? Brother, your losses outweigh your gains.”
“What is the rush? It will happen soon,” Pei Youting said as he turned a page. “There is pleasure in taking things slowly.”
As he spoke, his phone rang again. He glanced at it and waved the phone in front of Yan Wenhe. The name “Jiang Zui” on the screen gave the young master Yan a headache. He watched helplessly as Pei Youting walked to the balcony to answer the call, speaking with endless tenderness and soft words. As Yan Wenhe watched, he could not help but let out a quiet scoff.
When Pei Youting finished the call and came back inside, he saw Yan Wenhe looking at him as if he wanted to say something. He felt strange and asked, “What was that noise for?”
“I am scoffing at your behavior,” Yan Wenhe said rudely, but he quickly got back to the point. “Hey, I am serious. You are moving so slowly this time. Are you playing for keeps?”
Pei Youting did not react for a moment and asked, “What do you mean by playing for keeps?”
“What else? I am asking if you have fallen for him and want to have a real relationship.”
Pei Youting was about to head downstairs and reached for his coat on the rack. Hearing this, he acted as if he had heard a ridiculous joke and asked, “What are you talking about? I do not do relationships.”
Yan Wenhe knew the nature of Pei Youting, but after thinking about it, he could not help but ask, “Then what if he thinks you are serious?”
“What else can be done? I will just lie to him,” Pei Youting smiled, clearly not taking the words seriously. “And then, when I am tired of sleeping with him, I will just dump him.”
