Kevin was quite surprised when he received a call from the secretary of Pei Youting. He had assumed that the other man had not taken an interest in him during that previous drinking session.

That night had been a gathering organized by people within the industry. To be honest, when his manager told him to go, Kevin truly did not expect to have such good luck as to encounter someone of the status of Pei Youting. Consequently, he exerted all his effort to show his favor toward the man, using every possible means to seduce and flirt. Unfortunately, what kind of beauty had Pei Youting not seen before? He had not taken Kevin seriously at all, and so the grand dreams of Kevin had come to nothing.

He did not know what stroke of luck had caused Pei Youting to remember him today.

In fact, after having Jiang Zui, Pei Youting had cut ties with all those from his past. Jiang Zui suited the tastes of Pei Youting perfectly, but there was one downside: Jiang Zui was too much trouble. Pei Youting actually had a slight tendency toward aggression in bed, which in itself was nothing significant. “Mr. Pei,” he said, showing a timely bit of joy before lowering his head with a display of shyness. This submissive manner was very effective on Pei Youting, so his attitude softened slightly.

“Have you washed?”

“I washed before I came.”

Pei Youting nodded. “Go to the bed.”

He had called Kevin primarily to vent his desires, and so he finished after doing it once. After it was over, Kevin curled up at the head of the bed, looking at Pei Youting with timid affection. “Mr. Pei, then, should I leave now?”

The appearance of Kevin was far less to his taste than that of Jiang Zui, but his technique was good, and he knew how to play the part. Consequently, Pei Youting was quite satisfied. “It is very late. Just sleep here.”

The eyes of Kevin lit up. “Thank you, Mr. Pei!”

There was an unwritten rule in the industry: if it was just a one night stand, the partner was not allowed to stay overnight. Once a stay was permitted, it implied the development of a long term relationship. With the backing of Pei Youting, would he ever have to worry in this industry again?

Kevin was very happy, and the mood of Pei Youting was also quite good. He did not feel that he was in a romantic relationship with Jiang Zui, but he knew the personality of Jiang Zui. Since he did not currently want to end his relationship with Jiang Zui, Pei Youting did not intend to let Jiang Zui know about his association with Kevin. He would wait until he grew tired of Jiang Zui.

After all, Kevin was now his person, and compensation had to be given. Therefore, he had someone select a commercial drama script to give to Kevin. There was a reason for this choice. Pei Youting knew that Jiang Zui would not accept such a purely profit driven commercial script. Jiang Zui was an anomaly in the industry. He became an actor out of passion. When he was unknown, he worked to fill his stomach, but now that he could choose for himself, he only selected scripts with depth that challenged his acting skills. Naturally, he would look down on something like this.

Unfortunately, Pei Youting did not know that in order to afford a heart transplant for Lin Yan as soon as possible, the current Jiang Zui was very short of money. Therefore, he specifically asked Xu Yan to look for roles with high pay. Xu Yan had a sharp eye and immediately chose the very script that Pei Youting had allocated to Kevin.

The director was very welcoming of the arrival of Jiang Zui. After all, Jiang Zui was one of the few in the younger generation with genuine talent. Consequently, the director specifically gave him the vacant role of the second male lead.

Xu Yan was somewhat dissatisfied during the negotiation. “Only the second male lead? Who is the first male lead?”

They were filming a winter scene. Artificial snow was falling on the set. The female lead was wearing a coat and a miniskirt that were more for show than warmth, and she was nearly frozen stiff. She only hoped to pass this take quickly, but they had been stuck on Kevin for a long time.

Kevin was arrogant. Furthermore, he felt that because he was now with Pei Youting, he had a powerful background. He looked down on everyone. Now that the female lead had spoken like that, was she not insulting him and saying he performed poorly? He immediately shot two sharp glares at her. Although he did not speak, he was very cutting.

His overbearing manner was truly infuriating. The female lead was also in a fit of anger and was about to say something when the director noticed the wrong atmosphere and stepped in to settle things. “Come, come, let us try it one more time.”

The actress was furious. “What do you mean by this?”

“What is wrong with me?” Kevin did not feel he had done anything wrong. “Am I not acting exactly as the director said?”

The director had won awards and believed he was providing patient and serious guidance. The performance of Kevin just now had been abysmal. How did he have the nerve to claim he was following the instructions of the director? The director, who had been trying to keep the peace, now had a face like stone. There was no doubt that if the person behind him were not Pei Youting, the director would have told him to get out long ago.

The actress was shaking with rage. Her assistant, feeling sorry for her, wrapped a down jacket around her and signaled the director. “It is too cold. Let us film the next scene first. We should go and rest for a bit.”

Everyone in the crew knew that Kevin had a big figure behind him. They all knew that no matter how much they disliked him, it was not wise to openly break ties with this person. They could only let the matter slide quietly.

“Do you think you can do whatever you want just because someone is behind you? What do you think you are? Your acting is like dog filth, and yet you have the nerve to make such grand claims here!”

She spoke the thoughts of everyone in the crew. With someone leading the charge, everyone began to voice their repressed dissatisfaction. Kevin jumped in anger. “Do you dare to say that again?!”

The actress gave a cold laugh. “Your acting is a mess. Every time I see your artificial face, I feel sick inside. I do not know what kind of taste your benefactor has. I said it. Now, what are you going to do to me?”

Kevin could not out-talk her and could only leave in a fury. Everyone in the crew felt they had vented their anger. Even Jiang Zui, who usually had distant relationships with his colleagues, felt a sense of relief in his heart.

Unfortunately, the joy did not last long. The next morning, news came that the actress had left the crew and the female lead had been replaced by another newcomer. At first, everyone was stunned, but when they saw the arrogant Kevin, what was there left to understand? People are very opportunistic and know how to follow the trend. Her description caused the heart of Jiang Zui to sink. But in the next moment, her words fell like a guillotine, making his heart sink to the bottom.
