- The Scummy Top Desperately Tries to Win Back His Ex After the Breakup
- Chapter 11 - No Sincerity in the Vanity Fair
This visit back home ended on a sour note.
Pei Youting had nothing to talk about with his father. After smoking a cigarette at the entrance, he prepared to head back.
After seeing off a client, he sat on the sofa in a private room with Yan Wenhe. The hostesses and hosts they had ordered had not yet left, sitting gracefully to one side. Yan Wenhe had one in each arm, looking quite dashing and carefree.
The only flaw in this scene was the invisible pressure surrounding Pei Youting, which acted as a bit of a mood killer.
Believing that shared joy is better than solitary joy, Yan Wenhe found his own fun meaningless after a while. He waved his hand to dismiss the staff, leaned back on the sofa, and flicked his cigarette ash. “Are you making that face because you are heading to a funeral?”
Pei Youting ignored him. He exhaled a final ring of smoke and crushed the cigarette butt into the ashtray with a hand flip, his movements carrying a hint of venting. Yan Wenhe had a sudden realization. “Did Uncle Pei lecture you?”
“Is it because of that matter with Liu Yiming?”
Pei Youting glanced at him sideways. “Is that even necessary?” He paused and sighed. “I went back to see my mother.”
Yan Wenhe fell silent after hearing this. For a moment, the room lapsed into silence. Pei Youting was annoyed while Yan Wenhe was speechless. There was no other reason: the love-hate drama of the previous generation between Pei Yumao and Zhong Zhiyun had been tumultuous. Since the two families were close, he had heard a fair share of it.
Even Pei Youting himself was a product of his father’s forced possession. Zhong Zhiyun’s frequent episodes of self-harm and suicide attempts were almost entirely credited to Pei Yumao. After driving someone to such a state, Pei Yumao still had the nerve to claim how much he loved her.
Growing up in such an environment, Pei Youting naturally viewed “sincere love” as a dangerous beast. For years, he had adhered to a fundamental philosophy of physical pleasure over emotional connection.
He had indeed mastered the art of turning a cold shoulder; he would discard people once the passion cooled and dump them once interest faded, never lingering. If there were only one person he had shown a bit of genuine care for, Yan Wenhe could only think of Jiang Zui.
However, who knew how long Pei Youting’s small measure of sincerity could last? For some reason, Yan Wenhe remembered the way Jiang Zui looked at Pei Youting at the event yesterday. His heart could not help but feel a touch of pity.
A person like Jiang Zui, who did not know how to be flexible and still acted like a green youth after so many years in the industry, was destined for a battered and messy end when encountering a heartless guy like Pei Youting.
Yan Wenhe shook his head, too lazy to think about those complications anymore. For people of their status, sincerity was precious but also the most insignificant thing.
Jiang Zui lay at home for an entire day.
Pei Youting’s cleanup after their encounter had not been thorough. Since it was Jiang Zui’s first time, his bones felt as if they were falling apart. His lower body felt as though it had been run over by a car, and because the mess inside had not been cleaned properly, he developed a fever that same day.
Sickness comes like a landslide but leaves like pulling silk. Coupled with the fact that he had been busy like a spinning top lately, his body had long been unable to hold up.
Fortunately, he had no scheduled events and had just wrapped up a project with a film crew, so he finally had a few days of vacancy. Jiang Zui decided to treat it as a sick leave, as he was too groggy to do anything anyway.
During these few days, Pei Youting stayed by his side whenever he was free.
Jiang Zui was huddled under the covers on the bed when he heard the sound of the lock turning at the entrance. The aroma of food wafted toward him, and he forced his heavy head to grope his way out of bed.
Seeing the visitor, joy appeared in his eyes. “Youting.”
Pei Youting placed the takeout containers on the table and walked toward Jiang Zui by the bedroom door. The two naturally shared a kiss. Jiang Zui reached out to hug the other man, his heart feeling incredibly soft.
“Why are you up? Do you feel better today?” Pei Youting returned the hug and asked softly with lowered eyes.
“The fever has broken,” Jiang Zui said muffledly in his arms. “My head just still hurts a bit.”
As soon as he spoke, he involuntarily sounded as if he were acting spoiled. Jiang Zui himself was stunned for a moment. This was probably how it was; in front of a lover, people always show their most vulnerable side.
He looked up slightly and kissed Pei Youting’s earlobe, being unexpectedly proactive. This intimacy was interpreted as an invitation in Pei Youting’s eyes, so he leaned in, captured those lips, and sucked on them fiercely.
The sound of their kissing was wet and saliva mingled. Gradually, the nature of the kiss changed. The breathing of both men became hot and hurried, and Pei Youting’s hand slowly moved up from Jiang Zui’s waist.
“Mm,” Jiang Zui groaned. “There, do not.”
Unfortunately, Pei Youting would not listen to him, and the strength in his hands increased. Slowly, Jiang Zui began to feel an inexplicable pleasure amidst the pain. They leaned against each other, feeling each other’s powerful heartbeats.
“I want it,” Pei Youting said hoarsely. “I will be gentle, very gentle.”
“Is that all right, Brother Zui?”
At this moment, he finally remembered that Jiang Zui was a year older than him.
Jiang Zui’s soul was practically sucked away by those clear eyes that looked affectionate even when staring at a dog. At this time, he forgot he was still half a patient and nodded as if bewitched.
The room was filled with a charming atmosphere, and heart-pounding sounds drifted out continuously. By the time Pei Youting finished with satisfaction, the soup and rice he had brought were completely cold.
Pei Youting still had a bit of humanity left; he did not completely follow his own desires to take the man all night. After eating, he held Jiang Zui in bed, watching the television dramas Jiang Zui had filmed before and chatting casually.
The rental apartment was small and the bed was narrow. Pei Youting had originally been quite disdainful of it, but as the two of them huddled together feeling each other’s temperature, he suddenly felt it was not so bad.
The moon rose over the willow trees and the sky grew darker. Pei Youting leaned against Jiang Zui’s shoulder, his eyelids fluttering until he gradually fell asleep. His warm breath fanned against Jiang Zui’s shoulder.
Under the dim light, Jiang Zui watched him quietly for a long time. That moment seemed to become eternal. He felt he had the best boyfriend and the most sincere love in the world. As for himself, he was the luckiest and happiest person.
“I love you,” he whispered softly to Pei Youting.
After being with Pei Youting, this sentence had almost become his catchphrase. It was always like this: as soon as he saw the other man, he could not help but let the words slip out.
It was indeed a beautiful and dreamlike period. He was immersed in love, and his whole personality had become much more cheerful than before. Perhaps because of this, the people around him noticed a change.
Zhang Xiaoyue was Jiang Zui’s college roommate, a directing major, and his only close friend over the years. This day, as he watched Jiang Zui holding his phone and smiling from time to time, he understood what was happening.
“Are you in a relationship?”
Jiang Zui’s attention was still on the chat page with Pei Youting. His brain did not react in time, and he subconsciously gave an “Mm” in response.
Zhang Xiaoyue’s eyes widened. He did not expect this guy, whose iron tree had not bloomed for ten thousand years, to actually be hiding something so big. He immediately reached out to cover the other man’s phone, forcing Jiang Zui to focus on him.
“Wow, you are really not a good friend.” Zhang Xiaoyue pointed at him. “You are in a relationship? Really? Since when? You did not even tell me. Do you even consider me a brother?”
Jiang Zui panicked a little. He really did not mean to hide it from Zhang Xiaoyue, but given Pei Youting’s status, it was not something to be talked about openly. However, Zhang Xiaoyue was not an outsider. Under the continuous questioning of “Who is it exactly?” he finally gave an answer.
“It is Pei Youting,” Jiang Zui said. Afterward, he made a shushing gesture, telling Zhang Xiaoyue not to tell anyone.
Zhang Xiaoyue blinked and was stunned for a moment before letting out a very sincere curse. “Pei Haide’s grandson, Pei Youting?”
“Yes.”
“Impressive.” Zhang Xiaoyue felt like having a cigarette. “You really were hiding something big from me.”
He lit a cigarette to calm down. Halfway through, he suddenly thought of something. He frowned and his expression became serious. He looked at Jiang Zui and spoke in an earnest tone, “In a relationship?”
“Yes,” Jiang Zui said. “Me and Pei Youting, an equal romantic relationship.”
“What are you doing?” Zhang Xiaoyue laughed. “It is not like I do not know your temperament.”
“But I must say, do not be too serious about it.” Zhang Xiaoyue was straightforward and did not want to hide anything. “I heard that this young master is famous for being a player. As a brother, I sincerely advise you: in the vanity fair, do not talk about sincere feelings.”
Jiang Zui said, “We are serious.”
“A clown show; I am too lazy to talk to you.” Zhang Xiaoyue shook his head. “If you say he is playing for real, then so be it. But regardless, you should still be more careful.”
Jiang Zui was a bit unhappy. Anyone would be unhappy hearing such words. But he also knew Zhang Xiaoyue meant well. Fortunately, they did not chat about the topic for much longer.
Zhang Xiaoyue checked his watch, said goodbye, and left. Jiang Zui sat alone in the cafe, staring blankly at the cup of cappuccino that he had barely touched.
In fact, he did not take Zhang Xiaoyue’s words to heart. “I heard,” Jiang Zui believed that rumors were the most unrealistic things. He would not become suspicious just because of a few rumors.
This was because Jiang Zui loved Pei Youting very, very much.
Just then, his phone rang suddenly, pulling Jiang Zui back from his thoughts. He glanced at the caller ID, and with that one look, his expression changed.
