- The Scumbag Attackers Regretted It Deeply After My Death
- Chapter 46 - Excessive? I haven’t even said the most excessive part yet!
“Xie Chengfeng, I am very disappointed in you.”
Xie Chengfeng lowered his head as Director Zou lectured him. He replied aggrievedly, “I was wrong, Director Zou. Everything was going fine, but it’s all Guan Luoxue’s fault. You have no idea how arrogant and domineering she is. Last night, I followed your instructions and called her several times, but she wouldn’t pick up. When she finally did, she demanded the crew compensate her assistant for mental distress and medical expenses. Isn’t that a joke?”
The production hadn’t officially started yet, so it didn’t count as a workplace injury, and Guan Luoxue was the one at fault to begin with. Logically, her demand was indeed excessive; furthermore, since an assistant works for the artist and the artist works for the crew, any compensation from the crew wouldn’t typically reach the assistant.
Hearing this, Director Zou paused. With a strange expression, he stared at the indignant Xie Chengfeng and asked with a frown, “Did Guan Luoxue really say that?”
“Yes, yes!” Xie Chengfeng nodded repeatedly with certainty.
Director Zou had seen the trending topic about Guan Luoxue going to the hospital. He knitted his brows and asked thoughtfully, “How much money does she want?”
At the mention of this, Xie Chengfeng grew even angrier. “She wants the crew to pay a full million! And that’s not even the most excessive part—she also wants Teacher Yao to hold a press conference to apologize to her assistant!”
“Do you hear that? Is that even human language? Is her assistant’s finger made of gold? How is it that expensive? This is pure extortion.”
Director Zou: “…”
This was indeed a bit too much. He had originally thought it would be ten thousand at most, which he could have authorized himself to settle the matter quickly and avoid delaying the filming. But he never expected Guan Luoxue to open her mouth so wide and ask for a million—that was no small sum!
What he found most unacceptable was the second condition. As the female lead of Phoenix Rebirth, Yao Anna represented the image and reputation of the project. If she actually agreed to Guan Luoxue’s terms—setting aside whether Yao Anna would even comply—then the vast sums of money spent on early publicity would truly be wasted.
“Where is Guan Luoxue now?”
At this thought, Director Zou’s face darkened and his gaze turned cold. He would never agree to these two unreasonable demands! He needed to have a talk with her.
As Director Zou’s man, Xie Chengfeng was united in his stance. “She didn’t get back until five in the morning. She should still be sleeping in her room.”
Director Zou gave a hum of acknowledgment and stepped into the elevator. Once Xie Chengfeng followed, he pressed the floor button and asked, “What about Yao Anna? Is she awake yet?”
Xie Chengfeng hesitated. “Teacher Yao… I asked the front desk, and they said she left the hotel early this morning.”
“The opening ceremony is at nine o’clock. Where could she have gone? Why haven’t you called to ask her yet?”
Hearing that Yao Anna had left the hotel gave Director Zou a massive headache. He finally understood the saying that where there are many Omegas, there is much trouble. One was Jiang Nian’an’s fiancée, and the other was the mistress of the General Manager of Pei’s Entertainment.
And the identity of that General Manager was even more significant; Director Zou had just received information that the person was actually Pei Congling’s cousin.
At the Airport.
The two sides were in a standoff. Adams looked at the handsome Alpha before him with great vigilance, his voice cold. “President Jiang, I have performed the surgery. You wouldn’t be planning to go back on your word, would you? You promised me that as long as the surgery was successful, you wouldn’t stop my student and me from leaving the Imperial Capital!”
“You’re overthinking it, sir. I only came here to see you off and to give you something.”
A flash of helplessness appeared in Jiang Nian’an’s eyes. She knew her actions had caused Adams to resent her. She glanced sideways at Shen Mengjin.
Understanding the signal, Shen Mengjin handed over a thick envelope. Peter grabbed it first, acting as if it contained something dangerous. Upon opening it, he saw thick stacks of US dollars. He was slightly surprised, while Adams glanced at the contents and frowned at Jiang Nian’an.
“What is the meaning of this, President Jiang?”
“The medical fee.” Jiang Nian’an tried her best to offer a friendly smile. She was truly grateful to Adams; although he hadn’t been very willing to operate on Yao Guangming, the surgery was ultimately a success, wasn’t it?
This meant she had fulfilled two of Yao Zhenzhen’s wishes. With only one wish left, she could completely sever ties with Yao Zhenzhen.
Jiang Nian’an wasn’t good at smiling. Usually cold-faced, she had forgotten how to do it over time.
However, the Alpha’s “friendly” smile looked like a danger warning to Adams. He stared at her coldly and sneered, “Does President Jiang think I know nothing? Take your dirty money back, I don’t need it!”
With that, Adams snatched the envelope from Peter and threw it hard at Jiang Nian’an. The dollar bills spilled out from the force of his movement, scattering all over the ground.
Shen Mengjin couldn’t help but get angry and stepped forward. “You!” But she was stopped by Jiang Nian’an.
Jiang Nian’an wasn’t angry at all. Seeing the anger and hatred in Adams’ eyes, she realized he might already know the relationship between Yao Anna and Yao Guangming.
“Please leave, President Jiang! Seeing you reminds me of the foolish mistake I made. You lied to me, and I will never forgive you!”
Seeing Adams’ resolute and cold demeanor, Jiang Nian’an’s eyes shifted. She looked at him sincerely with her dark eyes. “I am very sorry about this matter. I know you won’t forgive me, but rules are rules. You must take the money.”
After speaking, the noble and proud Alpha actually bent down and knelt to pick up the fallen bills one by one. She put them back into the envelope and offered it to Adams again. The latter simply stared at her coldly, unmoving.
Catching a glimpse of a familiar white Volkswagen out of the corner of his eye, Peter’s expression froze. He quietly tugged at his teacher’s sleeve and winked frantically.
Adams: “?”
Following Peter’s gaze, he saw the car and immediately realized it was Yao Ling’s vehicle. Anna was here!
A flash of panic crossed Adams’ face. He hurriedly snatched the envelope from Jiang Nian’an’s hand and spoke coldly to dismiss her. “I’ve taken the money. You can leave now.”
Jiang Nian’an frowned slightly, seemingly surprised by the sudden change in Adams’ attitude. Shen Mengjin leaned in and whispered in her ear, “President, Miss Yao is here.”
The Alpha realized the situation. No wonder Adams was willing to take the money—he was afraid Yao Anna would misunderstand if she saw them together.
Jiang Nian’an pursed her lips, nodded slightly to Adams, and turned to leave with Shen Mengjin without looking back.
Once the Alpha’s figure disappeared, Adams breathed a sigh of relief.
“Teacher!”
A clear, pleasant female voice came from behind. Yao Anna and Yao Ling walked toward them, carrying small bags—local specialties Yao Ling had prepared for them.
“Thank you.”
Adams’ coldness toward Jiang Nian’an vanished, replaced by a kind and gentle smile. He quietly tucked the envelope into his briefcase before accepting the steamed buns and soy milk from Yao Ling. Though the buns were a bit cold, Adams and Peter still ate them with gusto.
Time flew by. As Adams walked through security, looking back every few steps with a reluctant gaze, the emotions of parting affected Yao Anna. With a faint smile, she waved at the tall figure.
As Yao Anna and Yao Ling walked out of the airport terminal, the roar of an engine sounded overhead. A plane pierced the sky and soon vanished. Yao Anna stood still for a long time until Yao Ling spoke up to remind her.
“Sister Anna, we’re almost out of time. Let’s head back quickly.”
Just as she finished speaking, a phone rang. Yao Ling looked at the screen and frowned.
Yao Anna snapped out of it and glanced at the phone, seeing it was a call from the assistant director, Xie Chengfeng.
“Let’s go. Back to the set.”
“Okay!”
A black Rolls-Royce was parked by the roadside. Inside, Shen Mengjin watched as Yao Anna and Yao Ling got into their car and left. She looked into the rearview mirror at Jiang Nian’an, who was staring intently at the departing, graceful figure. She rubbed her nose, surprised that her boss cared so much about this fiancée.
Before, she ignored Miss Yao; now, she looks full of deep affection…
Tsk.
Shen Mengjin shook her head and sighed inwardly. This was a real-life version of “Yesterday you ignored me, today I’m out of your league!”
“President, where are we going now?”
Jiang Nian’an withdrew her gaze and lowered her eyes. She picked up a file and flipped through it, asking as if nonchalantly, “By the way, I recall today is the opening day for Phoenix Rebirth, right?”
Shen Mengjin raised an eyebrow, immediately catching her boss’s drift. She cooperated perfectly: “Yes, Director Zou sent you an invitation three days ago. Many big investors will be there. It starts in an hour. Would you like to…?”
“Well, let’s go take a look then.” Jiang Nian’an’s expression remained indifferent as she turned a page. “After all, Director Zou is very prestigious in the industry. For the sake of his reputation, maintaining good relations will benefit the Star Entertainment agency I just acquired.”
“Wise move, President.”
Shen Mengjin echoed the sentiment and started the car. Out of Jiang Nian’an’s line of sight, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes and grumble inwardly.
Tsk tsk, if you want to go find your wife, just say so. No need to use Director Zou’s invitation as a front.
Hotel Room.
Guan Luoxue leaned lazily against the headboard, admiring her new manicure from yesterday. She spoke calmly, “Director Zou, this isn’t a vegetable market. Your bargaining tactics won’t work on me. Instead of wasting time here, you should be telling that woman named Yao to prepare a press conference to apologize to me.”
She slowly raised her eyes, staring directly at the displeased Zou Zhaoming sitting on the sofa.
“Teacher Guan, I believe we can still negotiate these terms.”
Director Zou narrowed his eyes, his face darkening. He argued his point; he would never agree to Guan Luoxue’s overbearing terms.
Guan Luoxue, however, didn’t seem to care. She chuckled, put her hand down to prop herself up, and sat up slowly. She took a sip of the hot coffee her assistant, Ah Fang, had just bought, her tone becoming forceful.
“Negotiate? Does Director Zou think the compensation I’m asking for is too much? Or do you think asking Yao Anna to hold a press conference to publicly apologize to my assistant is… excessive?”
