- The Scumbag Attackers Regretted It Deeply After My Death
- Chapter 41 - "Fine, Let’s Go Back."
“My name is Yao. I am Jiang Nian’an’s fiancée. If you don’t believe me, you can call her to verify. She’s the one who invited me here.”
Facing the bodyguard’s suspicious gaze, Yao Anna didn’t flinch. She remained perfectly composed. She was gambling—gambling that the guard wouldn’t actually call Jiang Nian’an to check her identity!
Sure enough, the guard hesitated. Having followed Jiang Nian’an for a long time, he naturally knew she had an engagement with the eldest daughter of the Yao family.
“Wait a moment…”
Normally, the guard would have let her in. After all, an ordinary person wouldn’t have the audacity to impersonate Jiang Nian’an’s fiancée. But the current situation was different. He turned slightly, pulling a phone from his pocket.
Yao Anna narrowed her eyes. She bent down slightly, tugging at the hem of her right pant leg, ready to pull out her dagger and take the guard down. However, the guard suddenly raised his phone, compared her face to a photo in his records, and nodded. He tucked the phone away, his posture becoming respectful.
“My apologies, Miss Yao. Please excuse my rudeness. I’ll let you through right away!”
“…”
Yao Anna paused. Keeping her expression neutral, she nodded, and the guard hurried to open the main gates.
Yao Ling’s eyes widened as she hissed in a low voice, “Holy crap! You can actually do that?”
As Yao Anna drove the car inside, she said to Yao Ling, “Check if your phone has a signal.”
Confused, Yao Ling obeyed. Glancing at the screen, she frowned. “There was a signal just a moment ago. How is it gone now that we’re inside?”
“It seems my hunch was right. I tried calling Jiang Nian’an earlier and she was ‘out of service.’ The jerk likely installed a signal jammer here. That’s why the guard didn’t call her; he just checked his records to verify my identity.”
Yao Ling marveled at the complexity. “That’s intense. If President Jiang went to such lengths to keep you away, are you sure you still want to go in and save the Professor? I feel like this place is dangerous! Maybe we should…”
The car came to a steady halt. Yao Anna turned to Yao Ling, her gaze unwavering. She knew exactly what Yao Ling was going to say. “I must save my teacher and my senior brother!”
Yao Ling’s brow furrowed. She didn’t care about anyone else’s life; she only cared about Yao Anna’s safety.
“But it’s too dangerous. I’m not comfortable with you going in alone,” Yao Ling pleaded. “Mr. Adams is an expert physician under the protection of the Federation. Even if you don’t take this risk, President Jiang wouldn’t actually hurt him…”
In Yao Ling’s eyes, this was just a kidnapping where the kidnapper wouldn’t dare kill the hostages. But she didn’t know Yao Anna’s true motive: it wasn’t just about rescue; it was about stopping Jiang Nian’an’s plan to save Yao Guangming!
Yao Anna pursed her lips and remained silent. She glanced at her watch. Two hours had passed since Jiang Nian’an took them. Her face tightened.
“Time is short. I don’t have time to explain. Stay in the car and wait for me.”
Yao Anna pushed the door open. Seeing her persistence, Yao Ling tried to follow.
Beep-beep!
The car doors locked instantly.
Pressed against the window, Yao Ling could only watch as Yao Anna walked toward the brightly lit villa, step by step. She was helpless.
“Sister Anna! Open the door!”
The Omega’s tall, graceful figure drifted further away, deaf to her cries.
The villa’s front door was slightly ajar. Gripping the dagger hidden in her sleeve, Yao Anna stepped inside quietly.
The first-floor lobby was empty. The furniture was brand new, and the faint scent of fresh paint lingered in the air. A massive diamond chandelier hung from the fourth-floor ceiling, a display of wealth that could only be described as “inhumane.”
Alert, Yao Anna scanned the room. Seeing no sign of the Alpha, she moved toward the stairs. Just as she reached the center of the hall, a deep, magnetic voice drifted down from above.
“You found your way here after all.”
Yao Anna froze. She looked up to see Jiang Nian’an standing on the second-floor landing, looking down at her.
Jiang Nian’an’s eyes were lowered. Her right hand rested lightly on the banister. Behind her hung a gold-framed portrait—a professional photograph of the Alpha dressed in black, looking powerful and piercing.
Standing there like an empress overlooking the world, Jiang Nian’an radiated a heavy pressure. She stared intently at the slender figure below, her fingertips tapping the railing in a slow, rhythmic cadence that seemed to echo against the woman’s heart.
Yao Anna’s expression remained cold. She hated looking up at the Alpha.
“President Jiang, shall we talk?” she suggested.
Jiang Nian’an arched an eyebrow and leaned forward, resting her elbows on the railing as she studied the Omega. She seemed genuinely intrigued.
“You want to talk about your teacher and your brother, don’t you?”
It was a rhetorical question.
Now that she had found Jiang Nian’an, Yao Anna was certain that Adams and Peter were inside Luoyun Villa. But with only Jiang Nian’an showing herself, Yao Anna’s anxiety peaked.
“You’re very clever, President Jiang. Since you know why I’m here, please let them out. As for tonight’s events…”
“I can let them go.”
The more anxious Yao Anna felt, the calmer her face became. As the minutes ticked by, she feared for their safety. She had no patience left for Jiang Nian’an’s games.
Jiang Nian’an just stared, saying nothing. Just as Yao Anna was about to lose her temper, a figure in white emerged from behind the Alpha.
“Miss Jiang, the surgery is over. It was a success. When will you let us leave?”
Yao Anna’s pupils constricted. The words hit her like a thunderclap. Her face went pale as she stared at the white-clad figure.
“Senior brother!?”
Startled by the familiar voice, Peter froze. He looked down, and his reluctant expression instantly transformed into excitement.
“Junior sister! You’re here!”
Jiang Nian’an’s aura softened as a slight smirk played on her lips. She glanced at the excited Peter and said calmly, “Why don’t you tell Anna the good news?”
Reminded of his purpose, Peter—who had already learned the patient’s identity from his teacher—said with a smile, “Don’t worry, sister! The surgery the Professor and I performed on Old Mr. Yao was a success! He should wake up in about two or three hours!”
“It’s good you’re here. Wait for me, I’ll go grab the Professor and we can all head back together!”
With that, Peter turned and ran back toward the operating room.
Silence fell over the villa once more.
Jiang Nian’an looked down at the woman’s pale face. In those beautiful phoenix eyes, she saw a raging fire of fury. The Alpha’s fingertips trembled slightly.
“I know you hate me,” Jiang Nian’an said softly. “But I was entrusted with a task. I had no other choice.”
She paused, her voice turning tender. “Anna, I…”
“Jiang Nian’an, you are despicable!”
Yao Anna gripped the dagger tightly. She glared at the Alpha’s handsome face, wanting nothing more than to rush upstairs and drive the blade into her heart.
Only a shred of logic reminded her that if she did, neither she, nor her teacher, nor Yao Ling would leave Luoyun Villa alive. If not for their safety, she would have gladly died taking Jiang Nian’an with her.
She was too late.
She wanted to kill her.
Jiang Nian’an felt it—the thick, palpable killing intent. The Omega’s eyes were filled with darkness, causing the Alpha’s own gaze to dim.
It was one thing to see it, but another to feel the complexity of it. It hurt. Those beautiful eyes used to be filled with an inseparable love; now, there was nothing left but bone-chilling hatred.
“Do you really want Yao Guangming to die that badly?”
Yao Anna remained silent, staring. Sometimes, silence is the loudest confirmation.
Yes. Of course I do.
She dreamed of the day Yao Guangming would vanish from this earth entirely.
Receiving that silent answer, Jiang Nian’an’s expression flickered with a complicated emotion. She didn’t know what else to say. She knew this incident would become an irreparable knot between them.
But I have my reasons…
Just then, Peter emerged, supporting a physically exhausted Adams. Seeing the woman below, Adams’ haggard face brightened slightly.
“Anna…”
“Teacher, slow down!”
Peter helped Adams down the stairs quickly. When they reached her, the hatred in Yao Anna’s eyes receded, replaced by a look they couldn’t quite decipher. She silently tucked the dagger further into her sleeve.
“Anna, I…”
Facing his favorite student, Adams felt a pang of guilt. He wanted to explain why he had helped Jiang Nian’an, but Yao Anna cut him off before he could speak.
