- The Scumbag Attackers Regretted It Deeply After My Death
- Chapter 38 - I Quit a Long Time Ago
Even if Jiang Nian’an could summon the wind and rain in the Imperial Capital, what of it? She was merely a businesswoman; attempting to resist her was undoubtedly like an egg striking a stone.
“I have already stationed people at the airport. Yao Anna cannot save you, and you cannot leave the country. When the authorities from Maguo come to investigate, I will have already found a scapegoat.”
“Rest assured, as long as you cooperate obediently, I can allow you to leave the Imperial Capital alive.”
The Alpha’s voice was very soft, but every word struck Adams’s heart like a clap of thunder.
“Jiang Nian’an, how dare you!?”
“Why wouldn’t I dare?” Jiang Nian’an smiled faintly and continued, “Furthermore, your threats pose no problem to me at all. At most, Anna will simply hate me for using such methods to coerce you. You know her—she is kind and soft-hearted. She has actually misunderstood me all along, but I can explain everything to her slowly afterward.”
“What do you mean?”
Adams’s eyes were bloodshot; his mental state had once again been shattered by Jiang Nian’an.
Jiang Nian’an’s eyes flickered.
This was the final step. She didn’t believe she couldn’t break through Adams’s psychological defenses.
Everyone is afraid of death, aren’t they? Even if they aren’t, they still have weaknesses and soft spots.
“Do you know who it is I want you to save?”
Adams looked at the Alpha in confusion. How could he know who it was? However, he had heard Yao Anna say that the person was her enemy. Judging by the way Yao Anna had been gritting her teeth when she spoke back then, he estimated they were irreconcilable foes.
Adams was a man who valued loyalty and promises. Since he had already promised Yao Anna, he would not be easily swayed into submission by Jiang Nian’an’s words.
“It seems you truly don’t know.” Jiang Nian’an suddenly pulled back her smile, her expression becoming serious and earnest. She said in a deep voice, “He is Anna’s biological father!”
“What!?”
This news was like a heavy bomb, completely blowing apart Adams’s inner defenses. He stared blankly at Jiang Nian’an, his face filled with shock. “No… that’s impossible! Anna clearly told me…”
Jiang Nian’an took her phone out of her pocket, opened the album, and flipped to a photo for Adams to see. In the photo, Yao Guangming was covered in tubes, surrounded by instruments. He lay quietly on the hospital bed, his skin deathly pale and his lips purple.
“I believe you must have seen Anna’s father before.”
Adams recognized the man in the photo. His pupils suddenly constricted, and his lips trembled slightly.
He had never met Yao Guangming in person, but he had seen his photo on Yao Anna’s phone before. Moreover, since he had taken Yao Anna as his student, he had certainly checked her background and had seen Yao Guangming’s photo in the records.
Adams only had these three students, and his most beloved student was Yao Anna. It was impossible for him not to know what Yao Guangming looked like.
Jiang Nian’an put away her phone and said calmly, “Rest assured, I will not lie to you. You are the lead surgeon. As long as you agree to perform the surgery on him, I will guarantee the safety of both you and Peter. Once Anna knows the truth, she will be very grateful to you.”
“That is her biological father; even if the bones are broken, the tendons remain connected. You will save him, won’t you?”
…
Yao Anna quickly arrived at the hospital. She maneuvered the car into a beautiful drift with a sharp brake, stopping steadily right at the hospital’s main entrance. Not even stopping to pull out the car keys, she pushed open the door and sprinted toward the building.
“Hey! Anna-jie, wait for me!”
Yao Ling’s shout rang out from behind. Yao Anna heard it, but she could no longer care!
Yao Ling had no choice but to pull the keys, lock the car, and run after her.
When Yao Anna reached the ward and faced the empty room, she couldn’t help but freeze.
Where was Yao Guangming!?
Could he have already entered the operating room?
As Yao Anna turned to head for the operating suite, she ran straight into Yao Zhenzhen. Beside her was Qi Lanqing; both of them were stunned.
Yao Anna was the first to react. Her beautiful face was cold, her gaze icy as she questioned them: “Where is Yao Guangming?!”
“What?” Yao Zhenzhen didn’t react immediately. Her gaze moved past Yao Anna to the empty hospital bed, and she couldn’t help but be startled.
Her father was gone!
When she had come just a moment ago, Yao Guangming was still lying on the bed!
Seeing Yao Zhenzhen acting confused, Yao Anna’s anger flared. She grabbed Yao Zhenzhen’s collar tightly, her eyes fierce. “I’m asking you, where is Yao Guangming!?”
Qi Lanqing, who had just come from the class reunion, had accompanied Yao Zhenzhen here.
Seeing this, Qi Lanqing reached out and pushed Yao Anna away, stepping in front of the dazed Yao Zhenzhen. She looked the woman up and down with a cold face. “Who are you?”
“I’d like to ask who you are.” Yao Anna sneered repeatedly. She didn’t bother to deal with this strange Alpha, staring intently at Yao Zhenzhen behind Qi Lanqing. She said coldly, “Yao Zhenzhen, stop acting! I’m asking you one last time: where is Yao Guangming now?”
Yao Zhenzhen regained her senses. Her brows furrowed, finding Yao Anna’s behavior inexplicable.
“Yao Anna, what kind of madness are you having!? How would I know where he is?”
“You’re in the hospital; if you don’t know, who does?”
Yao Anna took a deep breath, her beautiful eyes fixed unblinkingly on Yao Zhenzhen, who was hiding behind the stranger Alpha. Her eyes were full of anxiety; she was desperate to find Yao Guangming’s whereabouts and didn’t have the patience to settle old scores with Yao Zhenzhen. As for who this Alpha was, she didn’t care at all.
What she didn’t notice was that upon hearing that the woman in front of her was Yao Anna, Qi Lanqing’s expression changed slightly, and the look she used to size up Yao Anna became deep and inscrutable.
On the way to the hospital, Yao Zhenzhen had already told her the reason for Yao Guangming’s hospitalization. After hearing that all the recent upheavals in the Yao family were caused by Yao Anna alone, Qi Lanqing felt great sympathy for Yao Zhenzhen’s plight.
Yao Zhenzhen froze for a moment. Seeing Yao Anna’s extreme anxiety, she felt very strange. She opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to oppose Yao Anna, but since the “fish” Qi Lanqing was still beside her, Yao Zhenzhen clutched the Alpha’s sleeve tightly and answered cautiously.
“Sister, I really don’t know where Father has gone. I am indeed in the hospital, but I wasn’t feeling very well today. Just now, Lanjing accompanied me to see a doctor. Who could have thought that in the blink of an eye, Father would disappear!”
Yao Anna’s eyes grew colder, her face full of disbelief. “Who are you trying to fool!?”
“I’m really not lying to you, Sister! If you don’t believe me, you can ask Lanjing; she has been with me the whole time.” Yao Zhenzhen’s eyes turned red with urgency.
Touching upon the woman’s slightly pale and haggard complexion, Yao Anna’s brow furrowed. Regardless of whether Yao Zhenzhen was lying, the current priority was to find Yao Guangming’s whereabouts. Clearly, Yao Zhenzhen wasn’t going to give her the answer she wanted.
She didn’t bother to argue with Yao Zhenzhen any further. From start to finish, she hadn’t even looked at the Alpha, treating her entirely as air. Yao Anna gave Yao Zhenzhen a deep look and walked straight out, intentionally bumping into Qi Lanqing, who was blocking the doorway.
“Yao Ling, let’s go!”
Yao Ling followed quickly, scurrying after Yao Anna as they left together.
Yao Zhenzhen watched the woman’s departing figure with a cold gaze, her mind racing. Why would Yao Anna appear in their father’s ward in the middle of the night? And did her father’s sudden disappearance have a massive connection to Yao Anna?
Everything was like a mystery hidden in a thick fog; for a moment, she couldn’t see clearly.
“Zhenzhen, are you okay?”
The Alpha’s caring voice sounded beside her. Yao Zhenzhen snapped out of it and looked up, meeting Qi Lanqing’s handsome eyes, which were full of worry and concern. Her heart warmed, and a faint smile appeared on her pale face.
“I’m fine, but… my dad was clearly in the ward just now. How could he disappear in less than ten minutes?”
Qi Lanqing was also confused. She gently patted Yao Zhenzhen’s shoulder and said warmly, “Perhaps your father’s condition suddenly improved? Don’t worry yet; we can go ask the duty nurse.”
Yao Zhenzhen nodded. “That’s the only way.”
Behind the hospital, in the parking lot.
Yao Ling opened the car door, sat in the passenger seat, fastened her seatbelt, and turned to look at Yao Anna in the driver’s seat.
the thick night seeped into the car, illuminated only by the dim yellow light of the streetlamps. The Omega’s beautiful face flickered in the shadows, her alluring peach-blossom eyes now deep and indifferent.
Looking at Yao Anna’s stern profile, Yao Ling felt a faint sense of unease. This was the first time she had seen Yao Anna like this.
“Anna-jie, we’ve searched inside and out, every large and small operating room, and the nursing stations, but we still can’t find your teacher or your senior brother. Do you think… could they have returned to the hotel early?”
“Impossible!” Yao Anna said with certainty. She took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, pulled a cigarette case from her pocket, took out a slim cigarette and lit it. She took a puff, held it between her fingers, and said coldly, “If they were leaving, they wouldn’t have left without saying a word to me. Besides, didn’t you see with your own eyes that Peter was knocked unconscious and taken away by a group of men in black?”
Yao Ling pursed her lips and spoke hesitantly: “But… Jie, didn’t you say President Jiang kidnapped them to perform surgery on your father? But we’ve practically turned the hospital upside down and didn’t even see a strand of hair!”
“If they aren’t performing the surgery in the hospital, where else could they have gone…”
Yao Anna’s brows were tightly knit. She took another puff of the cigarette and exhaled the smoke. The slim cigarette she smoked had a faint minty fragrance—chilly, fresh, and very pleasant. Its taste was icy and refreshing.
Yao Ling’s gaze paused on the flickering light of the cigarette between her fingers. Since when did Anna-jie know how to smoke?
