- Chapter 19 - The Waiting People
Xu Qingfeng held onto Xia Yiqiu’s hand, refusing to let go. Both harbored secret thoughts, neither mentioning the matter.
Well, what’s wrong with good friends holding hands?
The wicked little black figure in Xu Qingfeng’s heart finally defeated the moral standard-bearer little white figure.
The last time they held hands, Xu Qingfeng’s mind was blank, entirely filled with the chaotic thump of her heartbeat.
Yiqiu’s hand was soft and gentle; she let Yiqiu lead her to the stinky tofu stall.
Tonight, Xia Yiqiu was a bright and beautiful girl, somehow perfectly matching Xu Qingfeng’s outfit—a cool, aloof youth in a cap, rebellious and unrestrained, yet tightly gripping the girl’s hand. In the dark night, the neon lights of the food stalls shone on their faces, highlighting the unique shyness of youth. Passersby merely assumed they were a young couple sneaking out for a date.
Some keen-eyed people recognized Xu Qingfeng as a girl, but still felt that these two should absolutely be a couple!
“Yiqiu, it’s right up ahead.” Xu Qingfeng pointed to the long queue. Gao Zhi had made her wait a full twenty minutes for it before, second only to the market’s most popular mung bean cake stall.
Xia Yiqiu looked over. “No wonder Gao Zhi was so upset,” she exclaimed in continuous admiration.
Suddenly, Xia Yiqiu looked into the distance and stared.
“There’s a ring toss over there. Look, doesn’t that dog plushie look like you?” Xu Qingfeng followed the direction of Xia Yiqiu’s finger.
No way. With that cute, coquettish expression, she was definitely not that kind of person.
She spotted an acquaintance in the queue for stinky tofu—what a coincidence, wasn’t that Liang Hao? She seemed to keep running into familiar faces today.
After so many days of lunch and tutoring sessions, the relationship between Liang Hao and Xu Qingfeng was quite close.
Xia Yiqiu’s eyes still hadn’t forgotten the plushie.
Liang Hao, please help us.
Xu Qingfeng, still holding onto Xia Yiqiu’s hand, walked forward.
“Liang Hao, what a coincidence today.” Xu Qingfeng lightly patted her with her free hand, then immediately drew it back.
Liang Hao turned her head to look.
Heh, no coincidence at all.
Xia Yiqiu had suddenly invited her here an hour ago. She thought her deskmate was in a good mood and wanted to strengthen their friendship, but as soon as she arrived, Xia Yiqiu vanished.
Now she finally knew why—Xia Yiqiu, the love-brain.
Liang Hao realized she was no longer a pure CP fan; she might be a solo-fan for Xia Yiqiu.
Liang Hao looked at their clasped hands, just as she was about to say something provocative.
“Liang Hao, there you are.” Xia Yiqiu spoke up just in time, suppressing Liang Hao with a look, and simultaneously explained to Xu Qingfeng that their encounter was just them looking for Liang Hao.
“Yes, I was about to ask where you went.” I’ll tolerate this for the grand plan, Liang Hao barely swallowed her words.
Who knew Xu Qingfeng’s next words would almost make her faint with frustration.
“Um, Liang Hao, how about you help us buy two extra servings?” Xu Qingfeng’s audacity was boundless tonight.
“We’ll transfer the money later.” So breezy and carefree.
Liang Hao looked at their rapidly departing backs, feeling utterly disheartened.
She suddenly wanted to break up this CP! Her best friend was being led astray. Xia Yiqiu used to be such an earnest kid!
Xu Qingfeng pulled Xia Yiqiu to the ring toss booth, paid the fee, and they each got ten rings. Their goal was not the most expensive robot.
Their target was the dog plushie that Xu Qingfeng refused to admit looked like her.
They finally had no reason to keep holding hands firmly, but the two, repeatedly failing to toss the rings, were too preoccupied to notice.
By accidentally trying to toss the rings at obscure plushies, they won the most expensive robot, a game console, and a pile of other toys. The owner was on the verge of tears.
It was the last ring.
Following Xu Qingfeng’s movement, the entire crowd held their breath. She threw it hard; it dropped, missed—her mood instantly plummeted into an abyss—but the ring bounced up, landing perfectly on the plushie’s ear.
“Haha, I got it!” Xu Qingfeng danced with joy, hugging Xia Yiqiu tightly to share her excitement.
Xia Yiqiu was naturally happy, but as the one being hugged, she was the first to realize the awkwardness.
She whispered softly into the other girl’s ear as she hugged her, “Our Qingfeng is, of course, the best.”
The girl’s voice was tender and soft, full of allure. Triumphantly, she watched the other girl’s earlobes turn red because of her words.
“Are you happy then?” Xu Qingfeng went to pick up the dog plushie and handed it to Xia Yiqiu.
The girl held the doll in one hand and the rose in the other.
“I am very happy today.” Xia Yiqiu answered seriously, a sweet dimple appearing with her smile, brighter than the spring sunshine.
Xu Qingfeng looked at the last burst of fireworks in the sky and said devoutly, “I hope you are happy every single day from now on.”
Xia Yiqiu thought that if the person in front of her didn’t like her even a little, she could call herself blind. Or, perhaps Xu Qingfeng was uncontrollably good to her friends (referencing Gao Zhi), but Xia Yiqiu didn’t think that was possible.
They returned most of the prizes to the owner and planned to go back and find Liang Hao, but they saw the little girl who had sold them the flower earlier crying nearby.
Xu Qingfeng and Xia Yiqiu crouched down in front of the little girl.
“Little sister, what’s wrong?” Xu Qingfeng spoke first.
“That’s right, crying makes you less pretty,” Xia Yiqiu said, gently stroking the little girl’s head to comfort her.
“Wuu wuu wuu, Big Sister, they said I’m a stupid kid.”
A question mark appeared in both of their minds.
Them?
“Little sister is so smart, they must be talking nonsense.” Xu Qingfeng didn’t ask for the specific details, not wanting the poor, teary child to get upset again.
Who would have thought that after the comfort of the two beautiful older sisters, the little girl’s courage grew again?
“The director asked us to come out for a charity sale today, and Qiqi sold the least. Qiqi is useless,” the little girl started blaming herself.
Xu Qingfeng and Xia Yiqiu were not in a hurry. They took the little girl to a bench and patiently listened to her explain the whole story.
The little girl was nine years old, and the ages of the children were roughly the same, so the orphanage staff weren’t worried about them getting lost, especially since the event was confined to this plaza.
She was an orphan. After exchanging a glance, they both saw the heartache in each other’s eyes.
“Don’t cry, Qiqi. Shall the Jiejies (Big Sisters) speak to the Director Auntie and take you to buy something delicious?”
Xia Yiqiu asked Qiqi gently. Qiqi had chosen to sell the flower to Xia Yiqiu because, besides Xu Qingfeng buying it, she had actually liked the bright and generous older sister in front of her from the very first glance.
After speaking with the staff, the two took the little girl shopping, buying, and playing. Qiqi was very happy. The two promised to visit her at the orphanage later, and Qiqi waved goodbye to them.
A child’s mind is very simple. She really wished the Big Sister and the other Big Sister would get married so they could be together and accompany her every day!
She felt that any people who looked good together should be a couple. How wonderful it would be if those two kind Big Sisters were together.
After the two said goodbye to Qiqi, the night market was nearly deserted. They seemed to have forgotten something.
Was it Liang Hao, waiting in confusion with three servings of stinky tofu in the dispersing crowd, receiving no reply? Or was it the shivering Gao Zhi, who had eaten half a box of mung bean cakes and was full, still waiting for her stinky tofu?
That night, after returning home, the two of them looked at the flood of messages from Liang Hao and Gao Zhi.
This time, they were truly wrong.
Xia Yiqiu: Haohao, please forgive me!
Liang Hao: Hmph.
Xia Yiqiu: Haohao, don’t be like that.
Liang Hao: Hehe.
Xia Yiqiu: Haohao…
……
Xu Qingfeng: Um, Zhizhi?
Xu Qingfeng unsent a message.
Xu Qingfeng: Gao Zhi, I’m sorry.
Gao Zhi: No forgiveness, absolutely not. scold.jpg.
Giving up hope.
Xu Qingfeng: Zhi Zhi, don’t be like that.
Gao Zhi: Get lost! Don’t possess my best friend’s body, fake! Would my Xu Qingfeng abandon me? Would she trick me into buying something and then never come back?
Xu Qingfeng was helpless; she was absolutely in the wrong.
Xu Qingfeng: Zhi! …
Xia Yiqiu and Xu Qingfeng were submissive and coaxed them for half the night before Liang Hao and Gao Zhi finally forgave them, but not without demanding a favor that was within their capabilities.
As for why they were so united in having a wish.
The reason Xia Yiqiu knew Xu Qingfeng and Gao Zhi were at the night market was because Liang Hao had asked Gao Zhi for her love-drunk best friend.
Liang Hao and Gao Zhi unanimously decided to demand compensation.
Of course, Liang Hao wouldn’t tell Gao Zhi about the burgeoning relationship between the two. She still remembered the time Gao Zhi blocked her from the group chat.
Gao Zhi thought, this was a great wish! Later, if Sweetie (Xia Yiqiu) got angry again, Xu Qingfeng would have to help her ask Xia Yiqiu for help.
That night, Liang Hao thought about this and smiled mysteriously in the dark. Haha, just you wait, little couple.
The next day, at the appointed time, the actors gathered at the club room. There were four people with dark circles under their eyes: Xu Qingfeng and Xia Yiqiu simply because they broke their usual sleep routine, and Gao Zhi and Liang Hao, the night owls, couldn’t sleep because they were too excited.
Seeing the sleepy lead actors in front of him, “Director” Han Feng was trying to energize them.
“Get excited, everyone! My debut work rests entirely on your shoulders, my excellent actors.”
Han Feng wasn’t wrong in saying this. Except for Gao Zhi, the acting skills of the others were indeed quite good.
Xu Qingfeng gave Xia Yiqiu a teasing smile. “Yiqiu, looks like you spent a lot of time repenting last night!” Repentance and apology always go hand-in-hand.
Xia Yiqiu countered, “I wonder how our Great President Xu begged for forgiveness?”
That, she certainly couldn’t say. Xu Qingfeng clamped her mouth shut and said nothing more.
That only made people more curious.
“Tell us, tell us!” she said, tickling Xu Qingfeng.
Xu Qingfeng refused to yield, retreating and dodging while trying to hold back her laughter.
Gao Zhi was full of confusion. When did these two become so close?
“Alright, listen to my instructions!” Han Feng waved his hand with great enthusiasm, ending the playful chaos and directing everyone to discuss one thing and arrange another.
He then spoke to Gao Zhi, who was clearly relieved that she didn’t have many lines.
“Gao Zhi, your mission is critical this time, you need to work hard.” Han Feng’s tone was full of sarcasm, sending a shiver down Gao Zhi’s spine.
Han Feng, he’s out to get me!
Han Feng didn’t hurt her; instead, he had increased her lines, promoting her to the role of the third female lead.
Only, for Gao Zhi, the lazy person who hated memorizing lines…
…it was absolute torture!
Can someone tell me where I offended this scheming villain?
Heavens, I’ll change!
Gao Zhi’s complaints did not change her current situation.
The Psychology Club’s big drama officially began rehearsal.
