- Chapter 12 - You Do Not Need to Do Anything
“Mr. Gu, breakfast is ready.”
As soon as he stepped out of the room, Butler Chen appeared out of nowhere. Gu Wancheng nodded to show he understood.
“When did he leave?”
There was no need to specify who “he” was. Butler Chen maintained his usual polite smile. “Sir left at seven-thirty.”
“Sir has already had his breakfast, so you do not need to worry.”
Gu Wancheng: “Wait.”
Who was worried! He really should have kept his mouth shut.
“Your little darling of a wife is about to go on that show. Are you not worried?”
Lu Keran sat across from Bo Yizhou with a relaxed posture, turning a teacup over in his hands as he inspected it.
Bo Yizhou looked at him as if he were an idiot. “He is not a child.”
Little darling wife? Gu Wancheng?
“He looks pretty delicate to me,” Lu Keran muttered. He immediately caught a sharp glare from across the table and backed down. “Fine, fine. I will stop talking.”
“Are you two not going to go public?” Lu Keran could not figure it out. With the immense power of the Bo family, why not announce it? What if his wife and son were bullied? According to his investigation, that little star named Jiang Yu was not exactly a law-abiding citizen.
“It is not time yet. I will be watching.”
Lu Keran looked thoughtful, then suddenly came to a realization. “I get it! You are going to play the pig to eat the tiger!”
Bo Yizhou: “Wait.”
He truly had nothing to say to that. “Is there anything else?” If not, get lost.
Hearing the underlying meaning, Lu Keran let out a cold snort. He put on his flashy sunglasses, raised a middle finger, and stood up to leave.
Using me when he needs me, discarding me when he does not. Let us see him try to find me next time.
After he left, Bo Yizhou sighed and rubbed his brow.
Knock, knock.
“Come in.”
“President Bo, this is the information regarding Xingyuan Entertainment.” Li Xiao placed a file in front of him.
Bo Yizhou nodded and gave him a glance, indicating he could leave. Li Xiao quietly closed the door behind him without making a sound.
Bo Yizhou picked up the file, flipped through a few pages, and set it aside. He would take it back to Gu Wancheng tonight.
Inside Xingyuan Entertainment, Jiang Yu was scrolling through his phone with a frown. Beside him, Li Jie was speaking earnestly. “When you go on the show tomorrow, behave yourself. I know you do not like children, but that child is different. He is from the Su family.”
Jiang Yu looked indifferent and gave a perfunctory reply. “I know.”
Li Jie felt a surge of frustration and blurted out, “What are you doing? I have already told you that if the little master of the Su family is unhappy, the person backing you might not be able to protect you.”
Jiang Yu’s face turned black instantly. He stood up and slammed his hand on the table. “Do you want to quit? Who do you think you are? With one word from me, you will not be able to do anything. What right do you have to tell me what to do?”
Li Jie laughed in anger, his chest heaving. “Fine, I have no right. Do not come looking for me when something goes wrong.”
With that, he strode out and slammed the door.
A person passing by in the hallway was startled. Seeing Li Jie walk out of Jiang Yu’s office with a face like a thundercloud, they quickly turned their head and pretended not to see anything.
It was obvious that Jiang Yu did not like this manager, but no one knew why he did not replace him. As long as he spoke up, the company would surely change managers for him. It was truly strange.
Jiang Yu stood in place, his face pale, staring down as if lost in thought. After a while, he moved, sat back in his chair, and operated his phone with an expressionless face. A slight smirk touched the corner of his mouth.
News of their latest fallout spread throughout the company. People gossiped, but they were mostly used to it by now.
“Sigh, what happened this time?”
“He never gets tired of this every single day.”
“I think Li Jie must have something on him, which is why he will not let him go.”
“He is a lunatic.”
“Shh, do not let him hear you. You know how petty that man is.”
“It is the truth, though.”
“Alright, alright, the boss is coming. Everyone disperse.”
The crowd fell silent and returned to their seats to work.
“You know as well as I do that he is a madman!” After leaving the building, Li Jie walked to a deserted corner and answered a phone call, shouting into the receiver.
After speaking, Li Jie listened with a gloomy expression. It seemed the person on the other end said something that caused Li Jie’s emotions to stabilize.
“I will do as you say. I hope you can keep your word.”
“Of course.”
The person on the other side let out a laugh. A voice changer was used, making it impossible to tell if it was a man or a woman.
“What should I do next?” Li Jie had completely calmed down. He smoothed out his wrinkled clothes, showing no trace of his previous agitation.
“You do not need to do anything. Do as you please. He will bring about his own destruction.”
Li Jie asked in confusion, “What do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said.”
The person on the other end hung up immediately without giving him a chance to speak. Li Jie put away his phone and calmly left the corner.
Back in his office, Li Jie opened his laptop, but his hands hovered over the keyboard. The screen reflected a person behind him. It was Luo Feichang, who was sneaking up on him. Li Jie rolled his eyes, his face a picture of annoyance.
“Hey!” Luo Feichang suddenly slapped his shoulder, attempting to startle him.
Li Jie brushed his hand off. “What are you doing?”
Luo Feichang did not mind being brushed off. He pulled over a nearby chair and sat down. He said gossipy, “I heard you and that guy had another fight?”
His face clearly said, “Tell me everything.”
Li Jie’s lip twitched. “Enough already. Can you be less of a gossip?”
Luo Feichang wagged a finger in front of him and shook his head. “In this terrible job, only gossip can soothe my shitty mood at work.”
Li Jie leaned his head on his hand and shook it helplessly. “You know what Jiang Yu is like. He is too self-centered and thinks everything will go smoothly. On that variety show, aside from that commoner who has not been identified yet and Chu Yi’an who is not in the entertainment industry, every single one of them has more status than him.”
“True. He does not turn back until he hits a wall, and even then, he still does not turn back.”
“He does not like children. I am worried he will not get along with the little master of the Su family.”
“Who cares? Let him ruin himself. Even though it affects you, it should be fine.”
Li Jie gave a huff. “I am worried he will drag me down with him. Right now, he and I are grasshoppers tied to the same string.”
Luo Feichang curled his lip in disdain. “Relax, relax. That guy has a bit of cleverness, but not much.”
Li Jie frowned. “I have a bad feeling about this.”
“Fine, let us stop talking about him. Is your mother doing, okay?”
Li Jie froze and did not speak for a long time. Luo Feichang’s heart skipped a beat. “No way!”
“What are you thinking? My mother is fine. We have already found a kidney donor.”
Upon hearing this, Luo Feichang immediately breathed a sigh of relief and spoke through gritted teeth. “Can you not take such long pauses? It is terrifying. It is good that you found one. If you need anything, just tell me. I am buying you dinner tonight.”
Li Jie felt a warmth in his heart and responded in a low voice.
“Alright, I have to get back.”
“Mhm.”
