- The Salted Fish And Protagonist A Ended Up Together
- Chapter 20 - Perhaps... Intuition. How Did She See Through It?
Wen Mian stood there, stunned like a wooden chicken. She felt the same way for a moment, she even began to doubt herself. Was that really how I acted it out? How could anyone guess such a plot?
Su Shiqiu smiled sheepishly. “It was alright, mostly because Momo acted it out so well.”
As soon as those words were out, Wang Mo waved her hands frantically. “No, no, no! I didn’t even understand it myself. Your guessing was what was truly legendary!”
Su Shiqiu and Zhang Yunxi exchanged a knowing smile.
When it was Wang Mo’s turn, her face was full of confusion, yet she was brimming with excitement. “It’s still these two cards. This little ‘Grass Goose’ was flying through the sky on a cloud one day when it saw a goose with six-pack abs. This goose was looking at its phone, and the Grass Goose got curious and approached it. Who would have thought, there was electricity around it! The Grass Goose was caught off guard, got electrocuted to death, and that stuff coming out of its mouth is its blood! Isn’t that great?”
Su Shiqiu gave a thumbs up; this was another one with a wild imagination.
For a moment, Wen Mian felt like vomiting blood herself. She looked at the cards on the table and silently apologized in her heart. She thought her own description of it being a “goose spitting golden light” was bizarre enough, but she hadn’t expected to meet such a master of the craft.
Zhang Yunxi, on the other hand, burst into loud laughter, her sounds turning into “quack, quack, quack.” Wiping away tears, she asked, “You call it a Grass Goose?”
Wang Mo nodded, pointing at the goose’s head on the card. “Yeah! Don’t these three hairs on its head look exactly like the grass we used to draw in elementary school?”
Zhang Yunxi took a closer look and gave a thumbs up. “It really does! Hahaha!”
Wen Mian glanced at it and nodded inwardly. It really did look like that. Great, now its image was completely ruined in her mind.
Then it was Gu Man’s turn. A faint smile touched her cool features, and her voice was crisp and clear. “The cards remain the same. The story is…the Grass Goose was killed, and then it became a Black Goose.”
That single sentence of deadpan humor stunned everyone. They looked at each other, shock visible in their eyes.
Wen Mian, however, burst out laughing. “Haha! I didn’t expect that in the end, only Gu Man would guess correctly. Your imaginations are way too big; I was starting to doubt myself.”
Everyone let out an incredulous “Huh?”
Zhang Yunxi stared straight at Wen Mian, her tone shocked. “Mianmian, what did you say? I think I misheard you!” She was so surprised her local dialect even slipped out.
Wen Mian nodded helplessly, confirming her words. “Gu Man’s guess is indeed the correct one.”
Wang Mo looked at Gu Man, then at Wen Mian, swallowing hard. “Mianmian, maybe you should perform it for us one more time.”
Su Shiqiu and Zhang Yunxi nodded. “Yes, yes!”
After thinking about it, Wen Mian agreed. “Sure, you guys can try to guess together this time.”
With that, she reenacted the performance.
When she reached the “greasy overbearing CEO” segment, everyone was speechless, doubled over with laughter.
Wang Mo had a sudden realization. “So that’s what it was! I was wondering why Gu Man was pointing at you and the phone!”
Su Shiqiu immediately caught the flaw in her words. “Gu Man pointed it out to you, so why didn’t you perform it for me?”
Wang Mo froze. Seeing everyone’s suspicious glares, she waved her hands frantically. “I’m innocent! I didn’t understand it at the time, I only realized it later!”
“Mm-hmm…” Everyone drawled out the sound meaningfully, not believing a word of it.
Sitting on the sofa, Wen Mian finally explained: “That’s how it was. That opening move was very popular recently, so I thought everyone would guess Sun Wukong. Afraid you wouldn’t get it, I specifically pointed to the sky and made a Buddha gesture.”
“Then, the other card had abs, so I figured a ‘Boss’ should have them, and I added a ram’s horn.”
“The story is simple: the Grass Goose was an angel, very kind-hearted, but it was betrayed. Then it ‘blackened’ and became Niu Hulu Black Goose the Demon Goose.”
Zhang Yunxi nodded in realization. “I see. Then it’s not my fault, it’s because the people before me didn’t perform it well.”
Song Xue quickly chimed in, “Exactly, it’s not my fault.”
Wen Mian didn’t see it that way, she suspected everyone equally.
Closing their eyes, following Zhang Yunxi’s countdown, everyone held up the number of fingers representing the person they suspected.
Gu Man pointed at Wang Mo and Zhang Yunxi. Su Shiqiu pointed at Wang Mo and Song Xue, Zhang Yunxi “destroyed her kin” by accusing Wang Mo and Su Shiqiu, Song Xue pointed at Wang Mo and Su Shiqiu.
Wen Mian tallied the votes, thought for a moment, and said: “I suspect Gu Man and Wang Mo. So, the one with the most votes is Wang Mo! And then Su Shiqiu.”
With a long face, Wang Mo flipped her card. She was indeed an Evil Goose. “If I’d known, I wouldn’t have made it so obvious.”
No one was surprised that Wang Mo was an Evil Goose. They shifted their gaze to Su Shiqiu.
Su Shiqiu also had a long face as she flipped her card, whining about her innocence. “I told you it wasn’t me!”
Zhang Yunxi looked away guiltily, comforting her, “It’s okay, it’s okay. Just think of it as gaining experience.”
When the others flipped their cards together, everyone was shocked, Gu Man was actually the other Evil Goose!
Zhang Yunxi’s mouth fell open as she stared at Gu Man in a daze. “I suspected everyone but I never suspected Sister Gu Man. And yet…she was an Evil Goose!”
The others nodded dizzily, feeling as if they had taken a thousand points of damage.
Su Shiqiu looked at Wen Mian, her voice full of shock. “I’m really curious, Mianmian, how did you figure it out?”
Everyone’s eyes landed on Wen Mian.
Though Gu Man’s expression remained calm, a hint of curiosity could be seen in her eyes as well.
Wen Mian froze. How did I figure it out? she asked herself.
There was no clear answer. She looked at Gu Man again. Gu Man’s expression was serious, her eyelashes drooping slightly, she was silent, yet her presence was so strong it was impossible to ignore.
After a long pause, though it felt like only a second. Wen Mian lowered her head, the corners of her mouth twitching slightly as she said: “Probably… intuition…”
“Intuition? That’s… very good.” Zhang Yunxi forced a smile and exchanged a look with Su Shiqiu, their eyes filled with an unreadable meaning.
Wang Mo, however, lowered her eyes in disappointment, her “tail” no longer wagging.
Song Xue gripped the blanket on the sofa tightly, only letting go after a long while, leaving deep wrinkles in the fabric.
The small mole at the corner of Gu Man’s eye was striking; her cold expression seemed to soften with a touch of warmth.
Wang Qiang watched this scene with satisfaction. Now he didn’t have to worry about the recorded broadcast lacking highlights.
Meanwhile, Xu Qing sat in the top floor office of the company, nervously staring at the floor.
The floor to ceiling windows reflected the entire landscape of the empire. The sunlight poured in, soft and bright, making the black marble tabletop shimmer with colors.
The vast office was silent, even the sound of breathing was clearly audible.
Sitting behind the desk was a woman wearing a slim-fitting black slip dress.
Her long, curly hair was draped over her shoulders, giving off a strong “Hong Kong style” vibe.
She rubbed her brow and let out a soft sigh. Her voice carried a hint of raspiness, hiding deep exhaustion and irritation.
Xu Qing immediately became even more nervous, her fingers unconsciously rubbing her cup.
The woman stood up, walked over to the sofa opposite Xu Qing, and sat down, keenly perceiving Xu Qing’s tension.
She smiled faintly and said softly, “I believe this is the first time we’ve met.” It was phrased as a question, but spoken with certainty.
Xu Qing nodded quickly. “It is indeed the first time I’ve met President Pei.”
Pei Ting nodded, maintaining her soft tone. “No need to be so nervous. I just want to learn more about Wen Mian’s situation.”
Xu Qing breathed a silent sigh of relief in her heart. So it’s not about me being fired! That’s good!
