- Chapter 19 - Goose! Breaking the Usual Coldness
Naturally, the others had no objections. Zhang Yunxi skipped upstairs and quickly brought down the deck of cards.
While distributing the cards, Zhang Yunxi explained the rules: “Let me think… the rules are simple. There are three types of cards in total. The one who draws the Lead Goose draws two more ‘Goose Cards’ and performs a story based on them for the next goose. The White Geese must guess based on the performance and pass the performance down the line.”
“The last goose has to reconstruct the story and identify the performance cards drawn by the Lead Goose. But watch out, there will be two Traitor Geese trying to mess things up. Everyone has to find them!”
“In the end, we see who successfully reconstructs the story and identifies the Traitor Geese to win. If the Traitor Geese lose, they take a ‘Truth or Dare’ challenge. Conversely, if the White Geese fail to reconstruct the story or guess wrong, they take the punishment. If a Traitor Goose also manages to reconstruct the story correctly, they are exempt from punishment. Most importantly, you cannot speak during the reconstruction; you can only make goose honks and gestures.”
“Does everyone understand?” Zhang Yunxi shuffled the cards and looked at the group.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
With that, Zhang Yunxi began handing out the identity cards.
“Who’s the Lead Goose?” Wang Mo asked curiously.
Wen Mian looked at the card in her hand and raised it helplessly. “It’s me.”
Zhang Yunxi burst out laughing. “Haha! Then you need to draw two more cards.”
Wen Mian nodded and randomly picked two cards. One depicted a goose with twin pigtails, defined abdominal muscles, a tail, black pants, and lightning surrounding its body. The other was a goose breathing out golden light, surrounded by clouds.
After thinking for a moment, Wen Mian cleared her throat. “I’m ready. Am I performing for the person closest to me?”
Zhang Yunxi looked at Gu Man and Wang Mo sitting on either side of Wen Mian. Her eyes lit up, clearly enjoying the chaos. “Then Mianmian, you perform for Sister Gu Man first!”
Wen Mian nodded. “Okay. Everyone else, close your eyes.”
The group obediently closed their eyes.
Wen Mian turned to face Gu Man. After a moment of thought, she stood up.
She skipped, kicking her left leg out while bending her right leg back, stretching her arms one up and one down. She twisted her body to look at Gu Man, signaling with her eyes while continuously honking, “Honk honk!”
Gu Man nodded but did not honk back.
Wen Mian continued by pointing to the sky, striking a pose like a Bodhisattva. “Honk honk!”
Gu Man continued to nod.
Wen Mian then nodded back, collapsed onto the sofa, extended two fingers to “stab” her own chest, and let out two weak coughs.
Zhang Yunxi let out an “Ah!” and gave a laughing warning, “No talking allowed!”
Wen Mian froze for a second, then smiled and continued with low-pitched honks.
The group was instantly amused.
Wang Mo asked with a laugh, “How hard is this? It feels like Mianmian is putting in so much effort.”
Wen Mian made a pained face and nodded in agreement. She looked at Gu Man again, Gu Man simply kept nodding.
Sighing, Wen Mian stood up once more, adopting a “villainous” expression with sharp, squinted eyes. She looked at Gu Man sideways and used both hands to make a “six” gesture (thumb and pinky out) over her head.
Then, she rubbed her stomach, her eyes filled with a mix of three parts mockery, three parts disdain, and four parts nonchalance, the classic look of a “Crowned Prince” CEO with a crooked smirk.
Gu Man remained nodding, indicating she understood.
Wen Mian crossed her arms and stared directly at Gu Man, questioning, “Honk honk honk?” (Do you really get it? Give me a response.)
Gu Man nodded, but seeing Wen Mian’s skeptical look, the tips of her ears flushed a faint red. She let out a hesitant yet firm, “Honk!”
She was usually so cold and aloof; this sudden “honk” broke her usual icy demeanor, carrying a hint of sweetness.
Wen Mian burst out laughing, immediately covering her mouth as a string of “honk honk honk” laughter escaped.
Embarrassed, Gu Man looked away and fell silent.
Wen Mian nodded and gave an “OK” gesture, signaling the end of her performance.
She then watched Gu Man with the curiosity of a cat. How would she perform it?
A trace of helplessness flickered in Gu Man’s eyes. “Wang Mo.”
Wang Mo opened her eyes, and the two faced each other, staring blankly for a moment.
Gu Man stood up and mimicked Wen Mian’s pose.
She was tall and elegant, a gesture that looked hilarious on others appeared high-fashion on her, as if she were ready to walk the red carpet at Cannes.
Finally, when it came to mimicking the “Overbearing CEO” gesture, Gu Man stood stunned for a second.
Wen Mian was laughing so hard she couldn’t straighten up, but her eyes remained glued to the scene.
To her disappointment, however, Gu Man didn’t show the specialized “sector-shaped” arrogant gaze. Instead, she just pointed at Wen Mian.
Wang Mo looked at Wen Mian in confusion. “Honk?”
Gu Man nodded and tapped her phone.
Once the imitation was complete, Wen Mian nodded to signal the end. Wang Mo looked completely dazed, letting out two confused “honk honks.”
Gu Man’s gaze was firm: Yes, that’s exactly it.
With her mind in a fog, Wang Mo confusedly tapped Su Shiqiu on the arm and began her “honk honk” performance.
By the time everyone had finished, most of the movements had been lost. Wen Mian’s sky-pointing and muscle-flaunting gestures were gone, and the “six” hand gesture had turned into a simple fist.
Finally, Song Xue began the reverse deduction. She looked at the six goose cards on the table, thought for a long time, and finally picked out a “Bristling Goose” and a “Lightning-Breathing, Mist-Riding Goose.”
“Based on my deduction, the story should be… this goose surrounded by mist was struck dead by lightning, and then its feathers bristled up.”
Wen Mian’s eyes were full of mirth, and Zhang Yunxi didn’t even try to hide it, laughing out loud.
“No, that’s not how I performed it!”
Su Shiqiu added with a smile, “Then how did you guess?”
Zhang Yunxi pulled out the two cards she had guessed. She actually got them right. She gestured with her hands, “Like this, the White Goose is a ‘love brain’ (hopeless romantic). It wanted to show its love to this… let’s call it the Black Goose. But the Black Goose looked down on it, so it unleashed lightning. That’s why the Black Goose is surrounded by bolts.”
After speaking, Zhang Yunxi looked at everyone with sparkling eyes, her voice rising, “My guess makes sense, right!”
Wen Mian didn’t know how to evaluate that. She nodded with difficulty and praised, “It makes sense. There’s a beginning, a cause, and an effect.”
Zhang Yunxi immediately assumed she was right and lifted her chin proudly.
Su Shiqiu was laughing so hard her stomach hurt. She wiped a tear from the corner of her eye and gave a thumbs up. “Impressive! Hearing you say that makes me feel like I guessed wrong.”
Zhang Yunxi, displeased, gave a heavy “Hmph” and pretended to be angry. “Then tell us how you guessed.”
Seeing that Zhang Yunxi was a bit upset, Su Shiqiu immediately shrunk her neck and nodded pleasingly. “Hee-hee, your guess is actually quite good. I think that’s exactly what it is.”
Zhang Yunxi snorted again, crossing her arms and ignoring her. “Sucking up to me now is useless. I want to see how you guessed!”
Su Shiqiu shifted her eyes awkwardly and met Wen Mian’s gaze. She gave an awkward smile before saying: “I also guessed these two cards. The story well, this White Goose and this Black Goose are actually twins. But they… the two geese couldn’t stand each other. One day, the sky was dark and heavy, and the two started fighting again. Accidentally, the Black Goose killed the White Goose. It decided to go all the way and absorbed the White Goose’s power, becoming… the Boss!”
As Su Shiqiu finished her theory, Zhang Yunxi slowly turned back around. She stared blankly for a while before slowly uttering, “Qiuqiu… I suddenly feel like your imagination is way too big…”
