The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 81
A month later, Zhang Qiu was handing over her student council duties. Once the handover was complete, it signaled the official countdown to the end of her university life.
Gu Beichen was also finishing his handover nearby, occasionally glancing at Zhang Qiu.
When Zhang Qiu looked over, his eyes would dart away.
They had maintained this dynamic for a long time.
Zhang Qiu was about to leave for her internship and would no longer be on campus, so she stopped Gu Beichen and asked, “Just say whatever you have to say.”
Gu Beichen opened his mouth, still struggling to look directly at Zhang Qiu.
After a long pause, he managed to stammer out, “I know.” Then he asked, “Are you two really together?”
Zhang Qiu looked at him with a half-smile, “Know what?”
Gu Beichen looked at her, swallowed, and finally whispered, “About you and Luoluo.”
“Are you serious about her?”
Zhang Qiu raised an eyebrow, “How did you find out?”
She prided herself on having kept things fairly secret.
Gu Beichen kindly reminded her, “Last month, Dongzi asked us to go to the aquarium, and we bumped into you and Luoluo. Dongzi’s face went dark immediately. Did he not come to find you?”
Last month, the aquarium?
Zhang Qiu suddenly understood, “You saw my confession?”
“Con- confession? That was a confession?” Gu Beichen exclaimed in surprise, “You still haven’t managed to win her over?”
Zhang Qiu twitched her lips, “What kind of person do you think I am? Am I that formidable?”
The topic had derailed, so Gu Beichen said, “Both men and women like you, but from what I’ve observed, women like you more than men.”
Zhang Qiu began tidying her desk. This space would no longer be hers, and as she worked, she simultaneously answered Gu Beichen.
“I want to start this relationship more cautiously.”
Gu Beichen nodded.
“What about Dongzi? What was his reaction?”
Zhang Qiu stopped what she was doing and thought for a moment. “He didn’t show any reaction.”
What reaction could Lin Xiangdong even have?
He went straight home and asked Lin Luoluo about it, saying she was going down the wrong path, but Lin Luoluo immediately left him speechless.
“What wrong path am I going down? I just like a person; it’s not like I’ve done anything outrageous or harmful.”
Lin Xiangdong said, “Two women have no future. You’d be better off liking Gu Beichen.”
Lin Luoluo laughed.
“What kind of future do you want?”
“Is it the future where I’m pregnant for ten months, working hard to raise a child?”
“Or is it the future where a mother-in-law makes things difficult and I’m unhappy?”
“Or is it the future of lonely nights with my husband away?”
“That’s not what I meant…” Lin Xiangdong was at a loss for words.
“First, you said you looked down on Gu Beichen, and now he’s suddenly acceptable. Are you discriminating against me?”
“No.” Lin Xiangdong got flustered. “I can’t argue with you.”
“You and Zhang Qiu won’t last either.”
“You’re two girls.”
Lin Luoluo stopped talking, just looked intently at Lin Xiangdong, and said one thing.
“Men and women in a relationship break up too.”
“Even if we break up, it’s a normal occurrence.”
The composure on her face was something Lin Xiangdong hadn’t expected.
He thought Lin Luoluo would be madly in love and would tell him to stay out of her business.
But she seemed to be thinking more long-term than he realized.
“Then what about Mom and Dad?” Lin Xiangdong finally grumbled after a moment.
Lin Luoluo glanced at him and said, “Mom and Dad aren’t as old-fashioned as you.”
Huh? Lin Xiangdong was confused. “How am I old-fashioned?”
“I’m a vibrant, upstanding young man,” he muttered. “You probably just have a crush because it’s new. I’ll see how you feel when the novelty wears off.”
“It’s like a lot of people online say they like older women, but do they really mean it? They’re just calling out on the internet.”
Lin Luoluo didn’t explain, she just said, “You can go ask Mom and Dad, and you’ll find out.”
Lin Xiangdong was full of doubts.
That night, when their parents returned, the family sat together watching TV. Lin Xiangdong tried his best to act naturally and asked his mother, “Mom, a classmate of mine came out today. His parents said they were going to cut off all ties with him. What do you and Dad think about that?”
“What do we think?” His mother asked, confused. “You’re not the one coming out.”
Lin Xiangdong choked slightly. “I’m straight.”
“I mean the part where his family is cutting ties with him.”
His father also looked over.
His mother said, “That family is wrong. Coming out isn’t cheating. As long as the child isn’t committing crimes or violating moral principles, if the child is happy, anything is fine.”
“You’re not against homosexuality?” Lin Xiangdong was surprised. He had always known his parents were open-minded, but he hadn’t expected them to be this accepting.
“You child,” his mother said. “You’re not old, so why are your thoughts so backward?”
“Speaking of which, since you haven’t dated, your father and I actually suspected you might like men. Are you trying to test us with this today?”
“No!” Lin Xiangdong panicked, repeatedly clarifying, “I’m a straight man!”
His mother waved her hand. “We know, you’re a straight man, and a single one at that.”
“No girlfriend, no boyfriend. What are we going to do with this child!”
Lin Xiangdong was utterly dumbfounded.
He was supposed to be testing his parents’ feelings for his sister, but somehow it had turned into his own critique session.
“When are you going to find someone? You’re graduating soon. Do you not even have anyone you like? Not a guy or a girl?” his mother pressed.
Lin Xiangdong twitched his lips, looking at Lin Luoluo, who was doubled over laughing, and tried to divert the criticism.
“Mom, Luoluo hasn’t found anyone either.”
“She’s still young,” his mother immediately said. “She’s still a child.”
Have you ever seen a twenty-year-old “baby”?
Lin Luoluo completely collapsed with laughter.
The next day, Lin Luoluo went to school. Zhang Qiu had nothing planned that morning, so she came to accompany her to class. Sang Jing was talking to Lin Luoluo, but upon seeing Zhang Qiu, she instinctively straightened up and even moved further to the side.
Lin Luoluo was in mid-conversation when she saw Sang Jing’s movement, looked to the side, and said happily, “Jie (Sister), why are you here?”
Zhang Qiu handed her a coffee. “I was free this morning, so I came to keep you company during class.”
“Are all the student council matters sorted out?” Lin Luoluo asked.
Zhang Qiu sat down and hummed in confirmation.
“They’re all sorted. I start my internship next week.”
“I’ve also talked to the faculty advisor here at school.”
Lin Luoluo nodded.
Sang Jing noticed their intimate atmosphere and felt like she was the unnecessary third wheel. Before she could think too much, Lin Luoluo opened the coffee packaging and handed her a cup.
“My Jie bought this for you.”
“Oh, is this okay? Won’t Senior Zhang Qiu drink it?” Sang Jing said, but her hand didn’t move to refuse the coffee.
“It has cream in it; I brought it specifically for you,” Lin Luoluo said quietly, seeing Sang Jing’s embarrassment. “My Jie said she wants to thank you for spending time with me, and she’s treating you to lunch.”
Sang Jing could weirdly sense the pungent odor of romance.
She nodded with difficulty and agreed.
Honestly, she thought, these two were incredibly sweet.
No wonder she had been overthinking things.
The bell rang for class, and the classroom fell silent. Lin Luoluo listened attentively. Zhang Qiu wasn’t idle either, reading the book she brought, not disturbing Lin Luoluo’s studying. She even helped take pictures of the presentation slides when Lin Luoluo couldn’t keep up with taking notes.
After class, Zhang Qiu went to buy water. Sang Jing and Lin Luoluo were waiting for her. Lin Luoluo whispered, “Can you do me a favor tonight?”
Sang Jing exclaimed, “A favor? Of course, I’ll help you!”
Lin Luoluo glanced to ensure Zhang Qiu hadn’t returned, then said a little shyly, “You must have realized already, but I like Senior Zhang Qiu. She’s starting her internship soon, and I want to finalize our relationship before she leaves. Could you help me keep her occupied? Then, once I give you the signal, you bring her over.”
Sang Jing hissed softly.
She had a feeling. After all, while girls could be close, they weren’t usually so intimate that one friend would squat down to tie the other’s shoelaces. Moreover, Senior Zhang Qiu was overly attentive to Lin Luoluo in every way. The intense possessiveness was obvious to anyone.
Sang Jing nodded and asked, “What’s the plan?”
Lin Luoluo whispered her plan to Sang Jing, and as soon as they saw Zhang Qiu approaching, they stopped talking.
Zhang Qiu asked, “What do you two feel like eating?”
Lin Luoluo said, “Sang Sang can choose. We’re treating you.”
Oh, they’re already using “we,” Sang Jing thought.
She considered it and said, “Is Malabian (Spicy Mix) okay?”
Lin Luoluo didn’t mind, and naturally, neither did Zhang Qiu.
They had no classes that afternoon and were all free. After lunch, Lin Luoluo suddenly suggested going up the mountain to watch the sunset.
Sang Jing knew the main event was about to begin.
Lin Luoluo’s planned confession spot was on the mountain.
She enthusiastically agreed, and Zhang Qiu had no objections.
They rented a car. Although the trip was a spontaneous idea, Zhang Qiu thought of everything, bringing food and water and even her own jacket, worried it might get cold on the mountain at night.
The drive from the school to the foot of the mountain took two hours. There was a road up the mountain, and it took another thirty minutes to drive to the top.
By the time they arrived, the sun was setting in the west. The three got out and waited for a while, witnessing a romantic sunset.
Zhang Qiu draped her jacket over Lin Luoluo. The two exchanged smiles.
The orange-red evening glow stained half the sky like a light veil. The sun slowly set, the moon hung high, and the stars began to twinkle.
When it got dark, the night lights on the mountain came on.
The distant city lights sparkled brightly. Zhang Qiu quietly held Lin Luoluo’s hand, and Lin Luoluo rested her head on her shoulder.
Sang Jing was busy taking pictures.
“Come on, come on, let’s take a picture of the three of us together.”
Sang Jing called out. The three stood together and made ‘V’ signs for the camera.
After the group photo, Zhang Qiu suddenly took out her phone and said to Sang Jing, “Could you take a picture of us?”
“No problem,” Sang Jing replied, taking the phone.
A flash of shyness crossed Lin Luoluo’s face. Zhang Qiu held her hand. Behind them was the last ray of twilight, above them were the twinkling stars, and in the distance were the city lights. Both looked slightly bashful facing the camera.
Sang Jing chuckled behind the phone. “All done.” After handing the phone back to Zhang Qiu, Lin Luoluo said, “I need to go to the restroom.”
“I’ll go with you,” Zhang Qiu said.
Lin Luoluo looked at Sang Jing. Sang Jing knew it was time for her to act.
She forcefully held Zhang Qiu back. “I just took pictures for you two; you haven’t taken any for me yet.”
Zhang Qiu hesitated, so Sang Jing continued, “There are surveillance cameras all over the place here. Are you worried she’s going to get lost?”
“You take her pictures. I’ll be right back,” Lin Luoluo said, and Zhang Qiu finally agreed.
Sang Jing deliberately took her time posing. Zhang Qiu took a picture.
“Is that okay?” she asked, looking in the direction Lin Luoluo had disappeared.
Sang Jing leaned in. “No, no, my face is too blurry.”
Zhang Qiu took another one. “How about this one?”
Sang Jing: “Wait, I didn’t pose properly.”
Zhang Qiu: “You tell me when you’re ready, and I’ll press the shutter.”
Sang Jing twisted left and right, wondering why Lin Luoluo was taking so long.
Zhang Qiu asked, “Are you ready?”
Seeing that she couldn’t stall any longer, Sang Jing said, “Okay, okay, I’m ready.”
Zhang Qiu worked quickly, taking many candid shots and letting Sang Jing choose for herself.
“Why hasn’t Luoluo come back yet?” Zhang Qiu frowned.
Sang Jing was also feeling uneasy. “She should be back soon.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll send you the photos later. I’m going to look for Luoluo,” Zhang Qiu said, growing worried.
Seeing that she couldn’t stop her, Sang Jing had no choice but to hand the phone back. She followed Zhang Qiu’s pace and said, “She should be fine. Maybe she’s just taking a long time.”
Zhang Qiu remained silent.
Sang Jing felt a little guilty.
She quickly sent a message: [Can’t hold her back! Senior is coming to find you!]
Suddenly, a large cluster of fireworks lit up in the distant empty space. Passing through the sight-blocking wall, the desolate area had completely transformed.
Twinkling fairy lights, colorful balloons, and a huge screen were raised. Warm, romantic music began to play. Walking down a path lined with flowers, the short film on the screen started.
“Jie, you once said you fell for me at first sight, and how could I not feel the same? You said our time together was too short and were willing to give me time to consider. I’ve thought it over now. I want to watch the mountains, the water, the sunrise, and the sunset with you. I like you. Let’s be together.”
Lin Luoluo stepped out from behind the screen, holding a bouquet of flowers. Sang Jing applauded from a distance. Lin Luoluo walked closer and offered the flowers to Zhang Qiu.
The bright light twinkling in her eyes outshone the stars.
“Jie, will you be my girlfriend?”
Zhang Qiu’s eyes were deep. She hugged Lin Luoluo tightly. She suddenly regretted her simple confession from before. She should have been more thoughtful. She sighed and leaned into Lin Luoluo’s ear: “I will.”
…
In the time capsule mailbox at the aquarium, the letter Zhang Qiu sent to Lin Luoluo contained her confession:
[I am not good with words, yet meeting you made me wish I had a silver tongue to persuade you to fall in love with me. But I am still myself. I hope my lack of eloquence will not disappoint you. Meeting you is the greatest luck of my life.]
Before meeting you, I wasn’t particularly lucky, but after meeting you, I feel incredibly fortunate.
Falling in love with you, the rest of my life is nothing but happiness.
