The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 69.2
“How many days has it been?”
“Twelve days,” Lin Xiangdong’s voice was low. “Last time she woke up after a week. This time is longer than we expected.”
Zhang Qiu’s heart clenched—it was the night she finished her video call with Lin Luoluo.
She leaned against the wall, afraid she might lose her balance. “What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said there are only a few cases of this illness worldwide. We can only monitor her condition. They told us to talk to her often, hoping it might wake her up.”
This state was different from being in a vegetative state, which involves brain death. Lin Luoluo was just asleep, like Sleeping Beauty, waiting for a catalyst to awaken her.
Lin Xiangdong saw that Zhang Qiu was exhausted and arranged a room for her. Zhang Qiu sat on the bed, holding her forehead, sinking into deep self-reproach.
She thought she should have spent more time with Lin Luoluo and not worried about work; none of it meant anything compared to this.
She had so much time to be with her, and she had wasted it.
Zhang Qiu was tired but couldn’t sleep.
She called her grandmother, intending to say she was safe, but instead, she burst into tears the moment she spoke.
“Grandma…”
“What is it, Jiu Jiu? Is work giving you trouble?”
“Grandma, my friend is sick…”
“Jiu Jiu is worried.” Her grandmother’s voice was gentle. “You’ve always been tender-hearted. If you can’t let it go, then don’t do anything you’ll regret.”
“Everything is fine with Grandma here. Spend more time with your friend when you can.”
After ending the call, Zhang Qiu still couldn’t sleep. She changed her clothes and washed her face, making herself look neat and refreshed before going to see Lin Luoluo.
When she entered, the caregiver was wiping Lin Luoluo’s body, and Zhang Qiu helped.
She also learned how to massage Lin Luoluo’s muscles from the caregiver.
“If a person doesn’t move for a long time, their body will deteriorate. We have to turn her over constantly, or she’ll get bedsores, and we have to exercise her muscles.”
Zhang Qiu learned very diligently.
When Lin Xiangdong finished his work and came over, he saw Zhang Qiu helping to move Lin Luoluo’s legs. Lin Luoluo was unaware, as if she were in a beautiful dream.
After everything was tidied up, a nurse came in to hang her nutritional IV. The two went outside and stood in the yard. Lin Xiangdong, distressed, lit a cigarette.
“How can medical standards be so poor when technology is so advanced? We’ve consulted so many experts, and every one of them has a different opinion—not a single person can give us a clear answer!”
Lin Xiangdong took a deep drag of his cigarette, wiped his face, and said, “Thank you for coming to see Luoluo.”
Zhang Qiu was silent for a moment. “Don’t thank me.”
Lin Xiangdong didn’t realize Zhang Qiu was even more distressed than he was. The two stood in the sun for a while when a security guard suddenly ran over to report, “Young Master, we found a woman lurking suspiciously outside the yard. When we questioned her, she said she was looking for a friend. Do you want to see her, Young Master?”
The Lin family had recently beefed up security and hired a new batch of guards. The security captain was specifically trying to impress the family head.
Lin Xiangdong frowned. “We’re the only family around here. What friend is she looking for? Did she give a name?”
“She did.”
After hearing the name, Lin Xiangdong said expressionlessly, “I don’t know her. Kick her out.”
“Warn her that this is private property.”
Lin Xiangdong figured it was just another reporter. The Lin family’s new energy vehicle was currently attracting a lot of industry attention, with worldwide orders flooding in, but because of Lin Luoluo’s condition, the Lin family wasn’t interested in interviews.
After dealing with the small matter, Lin Xiangdong finally had the presence of mind to ask, “I heard you went to record a show. How was your first time?”
“Tiring,” Zhang Qiu summarized in one word.
Lin Xiangdong laughed. “I thought with your personality, you wouldn’t agree to do anything so public.”
“It’s a chance,” Zhang Qiu said. “It’s hard for me to get into a top law firm when changing careers. This is a way to get my foot in the door.”
Lin Xiangdong nodded. “That’s true.” He scratched his head, frustrated. “I’m not even a student anymore, and I’ve already lost the carefree spirit I had in school.”
Zhang Qiu sighed. “We just have to slowly adapt.”
The two talked about other things to distract themselves.
Outside the gate, Shu He was monitored by the security guards until she was far away. She patted her chest, startled, and said, “What kind of place is that? The security is so strict.”
Lin Luoluo, of course, couldn’t answer her. She had cautiously tried to guide Shu He closer, found her body, and tried to return, but discovered her body was rejecting her, not letting her near.
Seeing Lin Xiangdong and Zhang Qiu chatting, Lin Luoluo’s eyes went red. She shouted loudly beside them, “Brother, it’s me!”
“Sister, I’m here!”
But no one could see her.
Disappointed, Lin Luoluo left the house with Shu He.
Shu He hailed a taxi. Sitting in the car, she checked the address. She was shocked: the area cost 300,000 yuan per square meter, and only top-tier wealthy people lived there—no wonder the security was so tight.
Lin Luoluo was still upset. She sat on the car roof and asked the system: [Why can’t I go back?]
System: [There are currently two of you in this world. Clearly, the other person is a better fit for this body.]
[She’s a better fit than me?]
[If you don’t put in the effort, your body will be taken away.]
[Don’t listen to its nonsense.]
A voice suddenly dropped from above. The taxi driver slammed on the brakes, barely avoiding a collision, and yelled up, “Are you crazy?! Do you have a death wish!”
A wheelchair blocked the taxi in the middle of the road. Sang Jing, sitting in the wheelchair, stared directly at the car roof.
Lin Luoluo stood up and floated down from the car. [You can see me?]
Sang Jing nodded, then her gaze fell on the driver who had gotten out. She apologized without any real remorse, “Sorry, I lost control of my wheelchair.”
“Bad luck,” the driver muttered. Seeing she was disabled, he had to retract his curses.
The emergency brake startled Shu He, who got out to see what was happening. Sang Jing’s gaze was peculiar. “Are you the author of The Wealthy Marriage Alliance?”
Shu He paused. She was an author, but she had never heard of The Wealthy Marriage Alliance. Looking at Sang Jing, she shook her head and said, “You must have the wrong person.”
Sang Jing’s eyes were full of scrutiny, which made Shu He feel uneasy. She carefully asked, “Do you need help?”
Sang Jing nodded. “I certainly do.”
Then, she spoke into the air: “I came to find you.”
Finally, someone could see her. Lin Luoluo was so happy she was about to cry.
Shu He, however, felt increasingly terrified. Ever since she met that ghost, things around her had become stranger and stranger.
“Why are you looking for me? I don’t know you,” she asked, shrugging her neck into her shoulders.
Before Sang Jing could say anything, the taxi driver grew impatient.
“If you want to talk, can you please get off the road first? So many cars are passing; do you want to die?”
Shu He quickly apologized. Sang Jing said, “Let’s find a quiet place to talk.”
