The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 50
The air was filled with a familiar scent, but Lin Luoluo lay awake with her eyes closed.
She tossed and turned, then opened her eyes and sniffed the air.
She didn’t know where the scent was coming from, but it lingered around her, making her heart burn and her face flush, as if Zhang Qiu was lying right beside her.
Lin Luoluo felt like a pervert, searching for Zhang Qiu’s comforting scent in someone else’s room.
She thought they might as well have slept together, as now she couldn’t close her eyes without reliving their kiss.
Lin Luoluo had never known Zhang Qiu to be such an intense person.
But she didn’t mind; in fact, she was happy that Zhang Qiu was willing to reveal that side of herself to her. It meant she was in her heart.
And even that she was attractive to her.
Her face felt hot. Lin Luoluo pulled the blanket over her head, urging herself to sleep, to stop thinking, or else she wouldn’t get any rest tonight.
But she continued to toss and turn, until a voice she had almost forgotten suddenly sounded in her mind. System: “Host, what did you just do? I was shielded by the anti-addiction system.”
Lin Luoluo was startled; all sleepiness vanished, replaced by a midnight fright.
Her mind raced, and she stammered, “N-nothing much.”
The System wondered, “Why would the anti-addiction system activate? Did you do anything unsuitable for minors?”
Lin Luoluo chuckled nervously, “I bullied the female lead a bit. Maybe I went too far.”
Her voice was barely a whisper from guilt, but since the System wasn’t human, it couldn’t detect her lie. Instead, it comforted Lin Luoluo, “I’m glad you’re taking the mission seriously, but the author’s extra chapter hasn’t been released yet, so you can just let things take their natural course. If the author’s extra chapter changes, we can respond in time. Otherwise, we still need to reverse the final rating to meet the standard of a good work.”
Lin Luoluo had discussed the work with the System before. This novel was merely a sweet, melodramatic work written by the author to cater to the majority of the market. Its essence was still a sweet and satisfying story. The readers simply didn’t want to break the fairytale of the male and female leads ending up together, but they weren’t the author, and the ending was still in the hands of the original creator.
Lin Luoluo cautiously asked, “What kind of extra chapter do you think the author will write to comfort the readers?”
The System replied, “A film company is already reaching out about this work. If the work is sold, it will likely follow the audience’s wishes.”
“What about the original yuri line in the novel?”
“You mean the one between the female lead and the female supporting character? That was merely an unpublished, incomplete work and won’t affect the overall direction.”
Lin Luoluo’s heart sank halfway.
After talking with the System, she was even more unable to sleep.
Tossing and turning, Lin Luoluo finally remembered what she had meant to ask the System last time.
“System, are you still there?”
“I am, Host,” the System calmly replied.
Lin Luoluo felt a little safer and asked her question, “Last time my mother took me to a gathering, a girl named Sang Jing appeared. I remember the original book’s male lead, Gu Beichen, didn’t have a distant cousin like that. Do you know her, or did I remember incorrectly?”
Human memory is limited, and although Lin Luoluo thought she had a good memory, it didn’t stop her from questioning a memory she hadn’t encountered before.
The System searched and gave a negative answer.
“No such person appeared in the original book.”
“Her role overlaps with yours in the book. Logically, the author wouldn’t design an extra character unless the author was padding the word count.”
“Or there’s another possibility…”
“The author might have written an extra chapter, and such a character appears in it, which is why she appeared in this work.”
Lin Luoluo abruptly sat up: “What did you say? An extra chapter has appeared?”
She couldn’t help but ask aloud, her body even trembling with fear—a fear of the unknown ending.
“I’m not sure,” the System said.
“The time the author takes to write an extra chapter could be very long, or very short, but this character is definitely new. Host, don’t worry, I will investigate.”
The System left after saying this. Lin Luoluo sat on the bed, gripping her hands and biting her lip.
The worst ending might happen: the author could have a change of heart, unwilling to sacrifice money, and write the extra chapter that most readers would enjoy. The male and female leads would reconcile, and she, the villainous female supporting character, might have to leave sadly.
But why would the new character be Gu Beichen’s cousin? What role could she play? Sowing discord? Between whom?
Lin Luoluo didn’t know that in Sang Jing’s world, she and Gu Beichen were the protagonists.
Lin Luoluo kept her eyes open and eventually drifted into a confused sleep. When she woke up in the morning, she was still a little muddled. She heard a soft voice outside the door—the elderly person’s hushed voice: “Is she still sleeping? Should I call her for breakfast? You two won’t be late, will you?”
“We don’t have class this morning, she can sleep a bit longer. I’ll wake her up when it’s time.”
“Then I’ll go out for a walk. I’ll leave the house to you.”
Zhang Qiu nodded and watched her grandmother go out to meet others for morning exercise.
Just as she turned around, the door behind her opened. Lin Luoluo stood in the doorway, hair messy, squinting her eyes, and mumbled sleepily, “Morning.”
“Morning. Did you sleep well?”
Lin Luoluo nodded, then shook her head. Her voice was still heavy with sleepiness as she stretched out her arms toward Zhang Qiu, asking for a hug in a spoiled tone, “Hug.”
Her speech was full of repetition, something Zhang Qiu couldn’t have imagined when she was awake.
Zhang Qiu’s heart fluttered, and she accepted the embrace with a smile.
Lin Luoluo rubbed against Zhang Qiu’s shoulder, burying her face in her arms. She sniffed deeply and muttered, “Smells like milk, like milk. Did you drink milk?”
“Such a keen nose? Grandma heated milk for us.”
When Zhang Qiu was a child and growing up, her grandmother heard from someone that children should drink milk to grow taller, so she bought her milk every day. Years passed, and she was all grown up, but her grandmother still habitually went to get fresh milk every morning and boil it for Zhang Qiu.
Boiled fresh milk would have a layer of milk skin on top, which was very sweet and delicious.
Perhaps because Zhang Qiu had been drinking it for a long time, she gradually acquired the scent of milk.
Unaware of it herself, she lowered her head and asked, “Are you hungry? There’s breakfast.”
Lin Luoluo was currently pressed against her, sniffing and hesitating where to bite.
This person who smelled of milk was right in her arms. It would be a crime not to take a bite.
Just as Zhang Qiu lowered her head to ask, Lin Luoluo stood on her tiptoes, bit Zhang Qiu’s chin, and then let go and ran away.
Zhang Qiu was exasperated and amused. Wiping the saliva from her chin, she said, “Biting people first thing in the morning, are you a dog?”
Lin Luoluo slipped into the bathroom. A toothbrush already had toothpaste on it, and the cup had warm water. She mumbled incoherently around the toothbrush, “Sister’s exclusive puppy.”
This made Zhang Qiu throw her head back and laugh for a long time before standing up and saying, “Your car is here. It’s parked outside. Let’s get ready and head back to school.”
Lin Luoluo nodded. She had come in a hurry yesterday and could only wear the same dress, but thankfully, Zhang Qiu had hung it up, so it wasn’t wrinkled and was still presentable.
After having breakfast at Zhang Qiu’s house—her grandmother had made vegetable pancakes, boiled milk, and eggs—Lin Luoluo felt full and drowsy in the car.
She glanced at the front, grabbed Zhang Qiu’s arm, and practically leaned against her, yawning. “Wake me up when we get to school.”
With that, she dozed off.
Zhang Qiu looked at her, noticing the dark circles under her eyes. She probably hadn’t slept well in a different bed, or perhaps she was too restless last night.
Zhang Qiu brushed the annoying strands of hair from Lin Luoluo’s face, revealing her smooth forehead. Looking at the lingering childishness in her eyes and brows, Zhang Qiu sighed inwardly.
Was she moving too fast?
Zhang Qiu didn’t want a relationship that began vaguely and ended vaguely.
She wanted to give Lin Luoluo a commitment, but the end of the thread was being pulled back by Lin Luoluo instead.
Lin Luoluo called herself her “puppy,” but in reality, Zhang Qiu was the one trapped by the puppy.
She loved the puppy and hoped it would soon give her a formal title.
Zhang Qiu’s lips unconsciously moved toward Lin Luoluo’s forehead but stopped just before touching. She gently pushed Lin Luoluo’s head back, softening her shoulder to make her sleep more comfortably. When she looked up, she glanced at the rearview mirror. She had inadvertently noticed the driver watching them a moment ago.
Zhang Qiu’s brows furrowed. She had almost crossed a line just now.
A close call.
Their relationship was still in its budding stage, and Zhang Qiu didn’t want it to be extinguished by outside turmoil. She squeezed Lin Luoluo’s hand. Though her expression was serious, the corners of her mouth remained upturned.
When they arrived at school, Zhang Qiu woke Lin Luoluo up.
Lin Luoluo hadn’t actually been in a deep sleep; it was just too comfortable and relaxing to be slumped against Zhang Qiu.
Zhang Qiu said, “I’ll be doing research at the library today. You can come find me after your class.”
Lin Luoluo yawned. Zhang Qiu put her bag in her hand, tidied her hair, and then nudged her toward the teaching building.
The library and Lin Luoluo’s classroom were in opposite directions. As she walked, she looked back. Zhang Qiu was still standing there, waving at her. Only then did Lin Luoluo happily skip and jump toward the classroom.
She only had one class today. Lin Luoluo rested her chin on her hand, listening to the lecture while contemplating her group assignment. By the time class ended, she had roughly outlined it. She planned to stay and refine it during lunch, and then attempt to set up a stall on campus in the afternoon to conduct social research.
As she was about to leave, she was stopped.
Lin Luoluo’s wide eyes glanced left and right without speaking; she genuinely couldn’t recognize who the people were.
Looking at the person in the middle, whose familiar neutral-style dressing gave her a clue, she had a prediction. The person held their neck stiffly and spoke in an awkward tone, “Lin Luoluo, I apologize to you. I was wrong last time, acting like a sneak behind your back.”
It was Shu Bai, the person who had spoken ill of Zhang Qiu in the library last time.
Lin Luoluo quickly remembered. She had thought the matter was over, so she was surprised Shu Bai had come to find her. Looking at the two people, one plump and one thin, standing beside her, Lin Luoluo quickly recognized the colder-tempered Luo Ning. Luo Ning met her gaze calmly, nodded slightly, and said, “Shu Bai knows she was wrong. We’d like to invite you to rejoin our group to complete the assignment. If you get a chance, please also convey our apologies to Zhang Qiu.”
The slightly plump Xue Hua also smiled and said, “That’s right. We were wrong last time. Shu Bai didn’t mean it. We hope you can forgive her.”
Lin Luoluo frowned, her expression unhappy. “While I don’t want to be aggressive, if you think hitting someone and then offering them a sweet can make this go away, it means you haven’t taken this seriously. I don’t know if you continued to spread rumors in my absence, so I won’t forgive you, and we won’t be friends.”
“I will complete the group assignment on my own. Thank you for the invitation. I guess I’m not worthy. Consider it me letting down your kindness.”
With that, Lin Luoluo turned and walked away confidently.
Shu Bai was momentarily stunned. She turned to Luo Ning anxiously and said, “Didn’t you say she would forgive me? She’s the eldest daughter of the Lin family. She won’t make trouble for me, will she?”
Shu Bai had been genuinely afraid these past two days. After her anger subsided, she remembered that Lin Luoluo was backed by the Lin family, the daughter of a top wealthy family in Longhai City. If she wanted to target her, she had plenty of ways.
A look of nervousness also crossed Xue Hua’s face. Only Luo Ning looked at Lin Luoluo’s retreating figure and shook her head.
Lin Luoluo was open and aboveboard. If she had truly forgiven Shu Bai, Luo Ning would have been worried. Now, while it could be considered a grudge, it would only result in them treating each other like strangers and not lead to anything serious. This relieved her.
Xue Hua’s boyfriend arrived to pick her up, and Xue Hua left first.
Luo Ning grabbed Shu Bai’s hand and pulled her into an empty classroom. In the privacy of the room, she kissed her lips and whispered in a low, husky voice into her ear.
“Be good, good girl. I’ll teach you.”
