The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 41.1
“Zhang Qiu, how’s your thesis coming along?” A sudden knock came on the door.
Zhang Qiu struggled to pull her eyes away from Lin Luoluo’s face.
She lowered her head, her throat working, and said in a flustered voice, “I’ll get the door.”
Lin Luoluo looked at her with disappointment.
That gaze lingered on her shoulder for a long time, burning hot.
Zhang Qiu felt half her shoulder go numb.
She didn’t listen to the visitor very carefully, her heart pounding.
“I heard you found an internship, so you already have a direction for the future? I still don’t know what I’m going to do. Maybe a securities company, but seriously, do you think any company would want an undergraduate like us, an intern securities master! It’s not like our families own a mine to fund our mistakes!” Huang Gui chattered on.
“Let’s not talk about that. I heard you have a clue about your graduation thesis, could you share some materials with me? I still have no idea.”
“Did you bring a pen?” Zhang Qiu suddenly asked.
Huang Gui was stunned for a moment, then immediately reacted and said, “Wait! I’ll go get one right now!”
They lived in the same floor of the dormitory, so Huang Gui heard the movement as soon as Zhang Qiu entered the room.
Lin Luoluo bit her lip, standing behind Zhang Qiu, both shy and angry.
She dug her nails into the corner of the desk, sulking silently.
Zhang Qiu didn’t dare to look back. Huang Gui quickly went and returned, standing by Zhang Qiu’s dorm room door, listening as Zhang Qiu named book titles, which she quickly wrote down on a piece of paper she stuck to the wall.
After filling half a page, Zhang Qiu said, “That’s all.”
Huang Gui was tactful and didn’t ask about Zhang Qiu’s thesis proposal. She hesitated before asking, “I have something I want to talk to you about. Can we come in and talk?”
She looked at Zhang Qiu’s half-closed door. Zhang Qiu hesitated for a moment, and then the door was suddenly pushed open. Lin Luoluo put on a straight face and said expressionlessly, “I’ll wait for you at the library.”
It took Huang Gui a long time to snap out of it after the person left.
Someone was actually in Zhang Qiu’s dorm, and it was a pretty young girl.
She was a little puzzled.
Although Zhang Qiu was a well-known figure in the school and never lacked attention, she always kept to herself and was difficult to approach. Huang Gui only benefited from the scholar’s advantage because she was in the same class as Zhang Qiu and was also the class monitor.
Huang Gui scratched her head and followed Zhang Qiu into the room, saying, “The provincial exam is coming up soon, and the national civil service exam is in the second half of the year. My family wants me to go home and take the civil service exam. I want to ask you what you think I should choose?”
“For us in economics, if someone in the family is in finance, I think it’s okay. When we applied, everyone said it was a popular major, and the admission scores were high. Now that we’re graduating and looking for a job, they want fresh graduates with two years of work experience. I just graduated, where would I get work experience? I want to be a securities analyst, but I haven’t even bought stocks a few times myself. Can the company really trust me with a large amount of capital? Do you think I should listen to my family?” Huang Gui voiced her worries.
After thinking and thinking, the scholar was the most reliable person to ask.
Zhang Qiu thought for a moment and asked, “What do you like to do yourself?”
Huang Gui didn’t have many ideas. She said sheepishly, “Don’t laugh at me, but when I applied for the major, my family and I thought economics should be the study of the economy. If we understand the laws of economic development thoroughly, wouldn’t it be easy to make money? But understanding the laws is one thing, and being able to make money is another. Maybe I should just continue with grad school.”
Huang Gui sighed, “A large portion of the class was preparing for guaranteed admission to grad school in their sophomore year, and another part was preparing to go abroad. The rest either have family connections in finance or genuinely like the finance industry. I only figured things out when I got to my senior year.”
“Go for the grad school entrance exam,” Zhang Qiu said.
She had read Huang Gui’s writings on the laws of economic development and felt that she leaned more towards the academic side. Someone who could figure out the laws of economic development was already not an ordinary person.
Zhang Qiu had thought similarly to Huang Gui in her freshman year. At the time, she chose the most popular major without any personal ideas, or if she did, it was because she was aiming for money. Everyone said studying economics would surely lead to making a fortune in the future.
Based on the knowledge she acquired, Zhang Qiu did indeed make a sum of money by following popular funds, but the money came too fast and too urgently, without a foundation. Zhang Qiu felt it wasn’t suitable for her. Starting in her sophomore year, she decided on her own career path: economic legal consultant or specialized lawyer for economic disputes.
“Do you think I can do it?” Huang Gui was still conflicted.
Because she was probably the last person in the class to sign up for the grad school entrance exam, she had been conflicted and delayed until now.
Zhang Qiu smiled and said, “No problem. It’s never too late.”
With the scholar’s assurance, Huang Gui finally smiled happily. She also made her request.
“Could I borrow your class notes? I think your organization is much clearer.”
Zhang Qiu didn’t need them anymore. She found her notes and textbooks and lent them to Huang Gui. Huang Gui, like a mouse that had entered a honey jar, happily hugged the books and left.
Only Zhang Qiu was left in the dormitory. She looked at the clock on the desk; it was only a little past ten, still early for lunch. Thinking about how close she and Lin Luoluo had been earlier, her heart started pounding uncontrollably.
Were she and Luoluo getting too close…? Yet she was also reluctant to stop…
She pressed down on her wildly beating chest, feeling somewhat hesitant.
As Zhang Qiu thought, confusion appeared in her dark eyes for the first time.
She was usually very clear about her goals and knew what she should do, but she was filled with uncertainty about Lin Luoluo.
She liked her, but how deep was this love?
What could she do for Lin Luoluo? Could she be as devoted as Gu Beichen was when he liked her?
Could she provide Lin Luoluo with a life no less comfortable than the one she had now?
She couldn’t do anything.
Zhang Qiu realized how insignificant she was.
This was another time, after her parents’ death and her grandmother’s illness.
She was powerless. Perhaps even if she tried her best, she wouldn’t succeed.
But what if she didn’t try? How would she know?
A faint voice whispered in her heart.
Are you willing to watch her marry someone else and attend her wedding as her best friend?
Zhang Qiu was unwilling.
But if she didn’t try, how would she know?
Lin Luoluo clearly liked her a little, too, or else she wouldn’t linger by her side.
Zhang Qiu clenched her fists, telling herself not to rush.
Slow down when things are urgent; thinking will become clearer.
They hadn’t truly gotten engaged yet; there was still a chance.
The clear midday sun spilled down. Lin Luoluo buried her head in her arms.
This was the discussion corner of the library, where low-volume talking was allowed. It was a little noisy, but everyone spoke in hushed tones, so it wasn’t too loud.
A bit of noise made it easier for Lin Luoluo to put aside her shame, otherwise, she would be overwhelmed by what had just happened in the dorm.
They were so close, the atmosphere was so intimate, yet Zhang Qiu held back.
What was she thinking?
Did she hate her for being presumptuous? Maybe Zhang Qiu hadn’t intended to kiss her?
Was she moving too fast?
Regret broke the last line of defense in Lin Luoluo’s heart, making her eyes red, her nose sore, and making her want to cry.
She had been too hasty.
She should have gone slower, much slower, and only proceeded after being sure of their feelings.
Besides, she still had the engagement with Gu Beichen. If the engagement wasn’t broken, how could Zhang Qiu, with her upright nature, accept hurting Gu Beichen again?
Lin Luoluo felt so miserable her eyes were stinging. The tears still couldn’t be held back.
It was so shameful.
She didn’t dare to see Zhang Qiu again.
Lin Luoluo lowered her head, organizing her things. She didn’t want to wait anymore. She wanted to slip into an unpopulated corner to quietly lick her wounds, certain that once she had sorted out her feelings, she could face Zhang Qiu with her best self.
Thinking this, she sped up her packing.
She picked up her bag and headed out, quickly reaching the library entrance, where her forearm was suddenly grasped by someone.
“Where are you going?” Zhang Qiu held Lin Luoluo’s arm tightly, afraid to let go.
She had called out a few times, but instead of stopping her, it had only made her walk faster.
Lin Luoluo tried to shake her hand free but couldn’t. She kept her head down, afraid Zhang Qiu would notice her emotions had already burst their banks.
“Just now…” Zhang Qiu paused, “I was wrong.”
“I shouldn’t have left you behind.”
Lin Luoluo turned her head, her voice muffled and heavily nasal: “I walked away myself.”
She emphasized the word ‘walked,’ and then tried to sound casual: “I have something to do; I can’t stay with you.”
“Where are you going? I’ll come with you,” Zhang Qiu said.
Lin Luoluo was slightly annoyed.
Why was this person suddenly like clinging taffy, impossible to chew through or shake off? She glared at Zhang Qiu: “I don’t need you to come with me!”
Seeing the redness welling up at the corners of Lin Luoluo’s eyes, Zhang Qiu’s heart trembled, and the hand that hadn’t been gripping tightly immediately loosened. Lin Luoluo shook off Zhang Qiu’s hand and ran forward. Zhang Qiu chased after her, wanting to apologize.
“Luoluo!” she called.
Lin Luoluo simply charged straight ahead. Seeing Zhang Qiu reminded her of the recent humiliation, her face flushed crimson, and she didn’t want to face her at all.
“Luoluo, I’m sorry,” Zhang Qiu finally called out. She caught up to Lin Luoluo, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her into a secluded side path.
The two stood face-to-face. Zhang Qiu forcefully lifted Lin Luoluo’s chin with her left hand.
“Why are you crying?”
Lin Luoluo bit her lower lip with her pearly teeth. Her self-esteem was at work, her face flushed with shame. She didn’t dare look at Zhang Qiu, closing her eyes tightly, wishing to conceal her panic this way.
She expected Zhang Qiu to release her and wait silently, but all she heard was a sigh.
“I’m sorry, I was wrong.”
