The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 34
Trailing behind Yi Yushu, Lin Luoluo debated several times about opening her mouth, but was interrupted each time by how busy the other woman was.
She was led into an office, where the other woman’s assistant heavily stacked a pile of books and said, “After Teacher Yi finishes signing, you’re responsible for tucking the sticker inserts into these books. Not a single one can be missed.”
Gazing at the sky-high stack of books before her, Lin Luoluo’s eyes swam into a dizzy spiral.
The assistant lady had already started working; she was responsible for flipping the pages, Yi Yushu for signing, and finally, Lin Luoluo for inserting the stickers.
A three-person assembly line officially took shape.
Lin Luoluo sat amidst the pile of books, heads down, unwrapping packages. Her heart was racing against the clock, making her look increasingly glum.
Yi Yushu had been watching her the whole time. Seeing her pout and puff out her cheeks when unhappy, she rested her hand on her chin and watched for a while with interest.
So this is the expression a ‘little sun’ personality makes when they’re down, she mused internally.
The assistant next to her forcefully set down a book, giving her boss a stern look, as if warning her.
Yi Yushu rubbed her nose and continued signing.
These books were promised to be given to students at Longhai University. It was originally planned as a book-signing event, but due to the overwhelming turnout, the signing had to be canceled. Yi Yushu proposed a compromise: she would sign the books, and then the Student Union would distribute them to the fans.
This was why Lin Luoluo had been press-ganged into labor.
Lin Luoluo toiled for a long time, yet the stack of books seemed undiminished. She stared blankly, then pulled out her phone to check the time.
It was nearly noon, and she still wanted to go see Zhang Qiu.
Wasn’t getting dressed up beautifully today precisely for the purpose of seeing her?
Lin Luoluo felt like she was wilting, about to be buried in the room’s pervasive smell of ink.
She drooped her head, opened a book, and mechanically tucked the complimentary sticker inside.
“What’s your name, little student?” Yi Yushu’s voice suddenly rang out. She seemed bored from signing and casually struck up a conversation.
The assistant glanced at her, saw that her boss hadn’t stalled her work, and mercifully stayed silent.
“Lin Luoluo.”
“You’re also surnamed Lin?” Yi Yushu thought of Lin Xiangdong.
The look the male student gave her was full of shyness. Yi Yushu had spotted immediately that he liked her.
“Have you read my books?” she asked again.
Lin Luoluo nodded, giving a small “Mm.”
Just having looked at them counts as having read them, right?
“Which one do you like? Leave me your number, and I can have my assistant mail you a copy.”
Lin Luoluo instantly grew cautious.
Zhang Qiu had just told her this person was strange and to stay far away from her, yet here she was, immediately trying to get her number.
Seeing Lin Luoluo remain silent, Yi Yushu thought she was too shy to ask for it. She smiled and said, “It’s alright. Which major and year are you? I graduated from Longhai University too, so consider it a gift back to a junior.”
Lin Luoluo, like a mute gourd, looked at Yi Yushu, lowered her head, and continued stuffing stickers into the books.
The assistant coughed twice. Yi Yushu lamented, “Are all the juniors this shy now?”
Assistant: “You promised to sign a hundred books. There are still 73 left.”
Yi Yushu sighed: “I know, stop rushing me. I’ll definitely finish before noon.”
Lin Luoluo felt even more frustrated. Being suddenly roped in had ruined her plan. Her phone suddenly rang. Lin Luoluo took it out—it was Lin Xiangdong.
“Didn’t I tell you to stay where you were? Where did you run off to?” Lin Xiangdong sounded anxious.
“I’m with Senior Yi,” Lin Luoluo whispered.
“Where?” Lin Xiangdong was suspicious, thinking he heard wrong. Why would Lin Luoluo be there?
“Senior Yi needs help signing.”
Lin Xiangdong immediately said, “Tell me the location! I’ll come help too!”
Lin Luoluo reported the place. Turning her head, she saw both Yi Yushu and the assistant staring at her. Yi Yushu joked, “Did you just sell me out?”
Lin Luoluo shyly put down the phone: “It’s my brother. He was worried and looking for me.”
Yi Yushu nodded. The door suddenly knocked. Lin Luoluo rushed to open it, not wanting to trouble the assistant lady again.
Lin Xiangdong stood at the door, breathing heavily. He controlled his breath before cautiously looking inside, stammering, “Senior Yi, I came to help.”
Yi Yushu raised an eyebrow. So these two were siblings? No wonder it was such a coincidence. She rarely ran into anyone surnamed Lin, and today she hit two at once.
She waved and said, “Come in. With more people, we can finish faster.”
With Lin Xiangdong joining in, their overall speed noticeably picked up. Yi Yushu also entered a battle state, her signing pen flying.
Two hours later, they finally finished everything. Lin Xiangdong notified the Student Union to come and move the books. Yi Yushu rubbed her wrist and said, “Thank you, both of you. Let me treat you to a meal.”
Lin Luoluo looked at the time on her phone—13:40. She was distracted and said, “No…”
“Yes, please!” Lin Xiangdong exclaimed excitedly, quickly reaching out to cover Lin Luoluo’s mouth, and spoke the “insincere” reply for her: “We both really want to eat with you, Senior.” He intentionally emphasized that it was both of them.
Lin Luoluo: “Mmm! Mmm!”
“Help your brother out!” Lin Xiangdong whispered close to Lin Luoluo’s ear: “I’ll grant you any request you make later, brother promises!”
I don’t want to!
Lin Luoluo glared at him!
Lin Xiangdong pressed his hands together in a begging gesture.
Lin Luoluo was still angry.
They had agreed to visit Zhang Qiu at the hospital at noon! That stinky brother wasn’t going, but she could have gone herself! Why did he insist on dragging her to eat! She didn’t want to eat!
Lin Xiangdong’s large frame hunched down, looking at Lin Luoluo with puppy-dog eyes.
Gradually, Lin Luoluo relented. Lin Xiangdong then promised, “I’ll definitely take you this afternoon!”
Lin Luoluo pursed her lips and impatiently waved her hand.
Fine.
Just this once.
Having placated his sister, Lin Xiangdong beamed like a cheerful, sunny boy.
Yi Yushu confirmed the restaurant with her assistant, discussed a few work matters, and then smiled, “Please. Thank you for your hard work this time.”
The restaurant was located near the university.
Everyone walked over.
Lin Luoluo was still bickering with Lin Xiangdong and walked very slowly.
Lin Xiangdong spent the whole walk chasing after Yi Yushu, trying to strike up a conversation. He was so transparent it made Lin Luoluo cringe. In contrast, the assistant lady was aloof and barely spoke a word the entire way.
Lin Luoluo held her phone, preoccupied with her thoughts.
Up ahead, Yi Yushu chatted with Lin Xiangdong: “How many years apart are you and your sister? It’s amazing you got into the same university.”
“Three years,” Lin Xiangdong said.
Yi Yushu calculated internally: that makes Lin Luoluo only 20.
She smiled to herself—the same age as the female lead in her next book. What a coincidence.
Lin Xiangdong suddenly seemed to hit upon a common topic and spilled all of Lin Luoluo’s details: “She was studying abroad and only recently came back, transferring to our university.”
The background is also similar.
Yi Yushu was even more delighted.
“What are your majors?”
“I’m the same as you, Senior—Business Administration. She’s Psychology.”
The majors aren’t the same, Yi Yushu felt a little regretful. Real-life references are hard to find, after all.
“But she plays the piano. She’s been learning since she was little. I lean more toward sports,” Lin Xiangdong deliberately showed off his interests.
Yi Yushu, however, was still calculating internally.
Her female lead is an art major. Lin Luoluo plays the piano, so that detail fits.
“I know. You’re a Level Two athlete,” Yi Yushu replied.
Lin Xiangdong was overjoyed.
At the same time, both Yi Yushu and Lin Xiangdong thought: If only I could date her/him.
Real-life references are hard to find.
Yi Yushu really wanted to step into the shoes of her male protagonist and experience a romance with a female lead; that way, what she wrote would surely feel more genuine.
She touched her chin, turned around, and smiled sweetly at Lin Luoluo: “Hurry up! You two are falling behind.”
Lin Luoluo couldn’t help but sneeze. Who’s talking about me? Could it be Zhang Qiu?
Thinking of Zhang Qiu, her lips curved slightly. She couldn’t wait until she reached the hospital and couldn’t help sending a surprise message first.
[I’ll come see you this afternoon. Are you feeling better today?]
