The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 28
Zhang Qiu stared at the text message for a long time, and suddenly felt as if all the discomfort of the day had flattened out. She couldn’t help but curve her lips, and replied: [Okay, I’ll call you when I get back.]
“Zhang Qiu, remember to organize the client data when you get back today.” Pei Qin pushed up her glasses and asked, “Have you finished organizing the meeting minutes from the site earlier?”
“Yes, Teacher,” Zhang Qiu handed over the meeting minutes.
Pei Qin glanced at it. “Not bad.”
“You can leave early today,” she lifted her chin at Zhang Qiu and said, “Don’t forget the materials for tomorrow.”
“We have a business gathering tomorrow, so remember to dress professionally.”
She looked at Zhang Qiu’s outfit—a suit jacket over jeans—and couldn’t help but remind her: “Although the legal profession doesn’t only look at what you wear, a professional suit is our ‘battle uniform.’ Putting it on is a reminder that we have entered the battlefield. I hope you can be more professional in the future.”
Zhang Qiu paused, surprised that Pei Qin was giving her pointers today.
She had followed her mentor for many days, and Pei Qin had always been aloof and rarely praised her. Zhang Qiu never knew if she was doing well or poorly, especially since she didn’t have a law background. Her mentor clearly had better options but chose to take on an inexperienced, rookie intern like her. Now that her mentor was speaking up, it meant her recent performance had been recognized.
Zhang Qiu’s lips slightly curled into a faint smile, and she nodded, saying, “I understand, Teacher.”
Pei Qin returned to her office and saw Zhang Qiu tidying her desk outside.
She had already put a red checkmark next to Zhang Qiu’s name on the intern performance plan. Zhang Qiu’s performance was indeed outstanding among this batch of interns, but it was far from enough. She lacked experience in this field; she was a blank slate.
Hesitating for a moment, Pei Qin still made a phone call to her managing partner and asked, “Are you sure you want to bring Zhang Qiu on the show this time? She is a very promising talent, but her academic background and major are not an advantage here, and it might spark controversy. I think it would be better to choose someone else.”
“Are you trying to protect her? Does the Iron Lady also have a soft side?” The partner chuckled over the phone. “Don’t worry, she was recommended by a junior colleague of mine. I discussed her with her advisor when I gave a lecture at Longhai University last time. She needs an opportunity like this. Or do you think she can’t handle it?”
Pei Qin was silent for a while before saying, “Since you’ve already made up your mind, why bother asking for my opinion?”
The other person was also silent for a long while before speaking softly, “I just wanted to talk to you a little longer. How long has it been since we saw each other during the day after the branch office opened? When you get home, you’re always busy with your cases and ignore me.”
Pei Qin’s face felt a little warm. She could actually hear a hint of grievance in Lu Feng’s words. She glanced outside at the employees who were starting to pack up and leave, and said into the phone, “It’s not closing time yet. Please be professional, General Manager Lu.”
“There’s only one minute left. I’m downstairs. I miss you so much.”
Zhang Qiu had just finished packing her bag and was waiting for the elevator when she heard the unhurried sound of high heels beside her. She turned her head and saw that her mentor was leaving early.
Pei Qin was a workaholic. Zhang Qiu had followed her for several days and hardly ever saw her leave on time; even after Zhang Qiu left, the light in her office would still be on.
She’s not working overtime today?
Zhang Qiu was a little curious but had no desire to pry into other people’s lives. She simply nodded slightly at her mentor.
When the elevator arrived, they rode down together. As they reached the entrance of the building, a Ferrari, as red as fire, was parked downstairs. A woman in a white suit took off her sunglasses, got out of the car, and walked straight towards Pei Qin, embracing her openly and generously.
“Did you miss me, Sis?”
Pei Qin didn’t struggle; she helped smooth down the hair that the sunglasses had messed up, and said affectionately, “A little bit.”
Lu Feng pointed to her own cheek with her sunglasses: “I’ve been working very hard these past few days, you know. Doesn’t Sis have a reward for me?”
Pei Qin certainly knew what she was thinking—she had deliberately come over today to assert her presence because she knew Pei Qin was mentoring a female intern.
Pei Qin kissed her cheek. Lu Feng knew that Pei Qin didn’t like to display affection in public, so she knew when to stop. Seeing Zhang Qiu staring at them in surprise, she extended her hand and said, “Hello, little intern. I’m Bo Nian’s senior, Lu Feng. He should have mentioned me to you.”
Zhang Qiu withdrew the surprise from her eyes and offered a brief, light handshake.
“Hello, General Manager Lu.”
“Don’t be so formal. I’m Bo Nian’s senior, so I suppose I’m your ‘Senior Aunt.’ We both graduated from Longhai University. Are you going back to school? I can give you a ride.”
Zhang Qiu looked at the two seats in the Ferrari, knowing that Lu Feng was just being polite, and shook her head, “You should take my mentor; I’ll take the subway.”
Lu Feng chuckled, “Alright.”
Pei Qin pinched her arm. Lu Feng wrapped her arm around Pei Qin’s slender waist and waved kindly to Zhang Qiu.
Zhang Qiu walked toward the subway.
Pei Qin immediately reached out and twisted Lu Feng’s ear: “If you weren’t comfortable, why did you let me mentor the intern? Am I that idle?”
General Manager Lu sounded wronged: “You’re too busy. I wanted to assign you an assistant.”
“Hmph,” Pei Qin motioned for her to continue.
