The Regent Keeps Flirting With Me - Chapter 17
As soon as they lay down in bed, Zhou Jin’s scorching body pressed close, her hand intentionally or unintentionally stroking Shen Lingyan’s waist.
Shen Lingyan blushed from the provocation, holding Zhou Jin’s hand down to stop her from moving.
“If you’re sick, you should rest properly!” Shen Lingyan righteously pulled Zhou Jin’s hand away, crossing her arms and lying on her side. If Zhou Jin could ignore Shen Lingyan’s crimson face, she might actually believe Shen Lingyan was some kind of gentleman.
“But Elder Sister just promised A-Jin she would hold her…” That beautiful face was put on a pitiful display again, and Shen Lingyan was almost exasperated, yet she still unconsciously reached out and hugged Zhou Jin. When her fingertips touched the soft flesh of the waist, before Zhou Jin could say anything, Shen Lingyan was the one who felt shy first.
When the Imperial Physician hurried over, he happened to witness this intimate scene. He was so frightened that he immediately turned his back, thinking it was some man lying next to Zhou Jin.
It wasn’t until Shen Lingyan spoke up to ask a question that the Imperial Physician realized his mistake.
But when his eyes met Zhou Jin’s gaze, which was filled with anger, the Imperial Physician felt his entire family’s life was in jeopardy.
Shen Lingyan didn’t know why, but ever since the Imperial Physician came in to take Zhou Jin’s pulse and she got up, Zhou Jin’s face had turned completely dark, as if someone owed her money. Her tone wasn’t good either: “Are you done taking the pulse? Get back and prepare the medicine.”
The meaning was to tell the Imperial Physician to leave immediately. Being an experienced man, the Imperial Physician certainly understood, so he had to tell Shen Lingyan that the prescription was rather complex and required him to return to the Imperial Hospital to prepare it, promising to send the medicine over in the afternoon. Only then did Shen Lingyan let him depart.
“Why are you so fierce to the Imperial Physician?” Shen Lingyan sat on the edge of the bed, looking somewhat amusedly at Zhou Jin, who was still sulking. At this moment, Zhou Jin’s childishness was fully exposed.
To Shen Lingyan’s surprise, Zhou Jin didn’t hide it. She sat up directly, embracing Shen Lingyan’s waist, her voice low: “He interrupted you from hugging me. Not happy.”
Perhaps due to the sickness, Zhou Jin’s voice was a bit hoarse. Coupled with her pitiful look, Shen Lingyan’s heart almost melted.
She rubbed the top of Zhou Jin’s head. The soft touch made Shen Lingyan feel unreal. Outside, it was still gloomy, and the sound of the rain was relentless. It looked like it would rain all day.
Zhou Jin was in no hurry. She nestled in Shen Lingyan’s arms, not sleeping, but just keeping her eyes open to admire Shen Lingyan’s face. To keep her promise, Shen Lingyan brought her court memorials to the couch to read. Shen Lingyan leaned against the pillow, and Zhou Jin leaned against her.
Both remained silent, letting the noise of the rain outside carry on.
She didn’t know how long this quiet moment lasted before Zhou Jin became restless again. Her hands started wandering, pinching Shen Lingyan’s face, stroking Shen Lingyan’s hands. Bored, she picked up a piece of white paper, intending to draw a portrait of Shen Lingyan.
“Your Majesty! This humble servant has finished brewing the medicine…” Zhou Jin’s face instantly darkened. Why, why was it this Imperial Physician again?
Watching Shen Lingyan getting up again, Zhou Jin began to seriously consider how to replace this Imperial Physician…
However, when the medicine, filled with a bitter aroma, was brought before Zhou Jin by Shen Lingyan, Zhou Jin started to entertain mischievous thoughts again. Her eyes were fixed on the shape of Shen Lingyan’s lips, and she finally drew Shen Lingyan’s lips in her painting.
As she stared, Zhou Jin felt her throat become dry. She whined and shook Shen Lingyan’s arm, demanding that Shen Lingyan feed her.
“Stop shaking! The medicine is going to spill!” Shen Lingyan was so startled her heart almost jumped out. She hastily placed the medicine on the small table in front of the couch and stood with her hands on her hips, looking at Zhou Jin.
“How do I feed you?” The moment she asked this, she regretted it, because she saw the sinister look in Zhou Jin’s eyes, and a bad premonition arose in her heart.
“You have to… use this~” Zhou Jin reached out and traced Shen Lingyan’s lips, carefully outlining their shape. Her fingertips felt slightly itchy, and her heart began to tremble.
Shen Lingyan froze, not daring to move. She stared at Zhou Jin for a long time, and her face suddenly turned scarlet. She simply picked up a jade spoon and fed the medicine to Zhou Jin little by little. Her lips were burning, and she felt profoundly shy.
Zhou Jin was only joking and didn’t insist. When Shen Lingyan used the spoon to feed her, she would open her mouth, but the medicine was truly bitter. After finishing the bowl with a frown, her mouth was full of bitterness, and Zhou Jin didn’t want to eat anything else.
Lunch was steamingly brought up. The rain outside was getting heavier with no sign of stopping. Shen Lingyan finally looked forward to this moment. Having Zhou Jin leaning against her all morning had made her so awkward that she felt like she could have dug out an entire dream mansion. Now, she finally had a legitimate excuse.
Shen Lingyan quickly put down the court memorials, stood up, and sat at the dining table. Glancing back, Zhou Jin was already asleep.
It had to be said that the sleeping Zhou Jin was docile and lovely, completely devoid of her previous arrogant aura or coquettishness. That quiet and peaceful beauty was infinitely magnified at this moment.
Shen Lingyan only watched for a while before she didn’t dare to look anymore. She tried hard to shift her attention to lunch. As she ate, she started to worry about Zhou Jin…
“What if the Regent doesn’t eat…” Shen Lingyan murmured to Yun zhu.
Yun zhu also looked helpless. She stood by, served Shen Lingyan a piece of meat, and helped her drink a few sips of soup before finally saying: “We can’t possibly wake Her Highness. How about I keep the food warm, so she can eat when she wakes up and is hungry.”
Shen Lingyan nodded, thinking it was a good idea. So she stopped eating, quickly had Yun zhu take the plates of uneaten food away to keep warm, and then tiptoed over to the desk with her court memorials to continue her work.
However, one matter struck Shen Lingyan as strange: Liangzhou would apply for disaster relief funds every few months. The amount sent out each time was substantial. Was this normal?
Of course, it was not normal.
Shen Lingyan’s eyes gradually chilled. Could she have stumbled upon another case of corruption and bribery? While she was still contemplating, a sudden warmth came from behind her. Shen Lingyan shivered, but only relaxed after smelling the familiar hair fragrance.
“You’re awake? Are you hungry? I’ll have Yun zhu…” Shen Lingyan’s words were cut short by Zhou Jin’s gloomy voice, laced with anger.
“The King only ignored Liangzhou for a short while, and they are already courting death?” Zhou Jin was so terrifying right now that Shen Lingyan stiffened, unable to speak. It wasn’t until a long moment later when Zhou Jin rubbed her stomach and said she was hungry that Shen Lingyan, still shaken, instructed Yun zhu to bring the food.
So… this was that Zhou Jin, the unconquerable Regent.
Shen Lingyan had only ever seen that gentleness and coquettishness when Zhou Jin was facing her. Now, with these filthy matters appearing before Zhou Jin, she finally saw the true Zhou Jin.
“Your Majesty, Ah Jin plans to go to Liangzhou in a few days. Is that permissible?” Zhou Jin blinked, smiling brightly, completely devoid of the gloomy look from moments ago.
Shen Lingyan was pulled back to her senses by her words. After a period of thought, she made a decision.
“I also want to go to Liangzhou.”
“What!?” Zhou Jin’s eyes widened upon hearing this.
