The Real Heiress Just Wants to Be a Lazy Fish - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: The Old Home
Want to kill me? But if I die, you die too.
Jiang Zitan’s crisis isn’t over yet. The cannibal case those two people entrusted to you before they died hasn’t been solved. Do you really want to settle things with me now? I don’t care either way… Feeling the killing intent in Tao Yitong’s heart, Taotie sneered provocatively: But do you dare?
Years ago, Taotie had asked her grandmother the same question. Taotie was reckless, but they had family and friends. So, whether in the past or now, the choices of grandmother and granddaughter remained the same: they had to endure this for now.
But Tao Yitong wasn’t without means to retaliate for instance… a hunger strike. Though this tactic was a case of “killing a thousand enemies and losing eight hundred of your own.”
Of course, saying it was a “hunger strike” wasn’t entirely accurate. Tao Yitong couldn’t actually starve herself to death, but with her abilities, she could maintain basic survival on a tiny amount of food. It would just be agonizingly hungry. However, if she was miserable, Taotie would be even more so.
It was a ferocious beast so mad it would consume its own body; denying it food was worse than taking its life.
Sure enough, once that thought crossed her mind, the Taotie side fell silent, not uttering another word.
Tao Yitong reorganized the file bag and put it back in its original place. She looked at the photo in the cabinet; she truly looked like her grandmother, though her grandmother was a bit more stern. She died in her 40s, so the person in the photo was still young. Looking at her, Tao Yitong felt a heavy, stifling sensation in her chest.
The Duel in the Sky
The blade was coated with a lethal poison specifically for vampires!
Feeling his heart seemingly melting under the heat of a sun, Carnaro desperately broke free from that strange long sword.
His terrifying S-class pressure was suddenly released. The carnival-like auction scene below fell silent instantly. Every monster was like a chicken being held by the neck, able to emit only “heck-heck” sounds from their throats.
Another S-class power erupted simultaneously, forming a confrontational stance against him.
Flashback: The Confrontation
“This what is this power?” The system called out in surprise, Is this the ‘wild’ version?
Xu Tingting’s pale cheeks flushed bright red, whether from anger or being choked. Tears welled in her eyes, nearly making one reluctant to bully her further.
But Tao Yitong was iron-hearted and unmoved. “Don’t provoke me again. Get lost.”
But how could Xu Tingting let such a humiliation go? Overwhelmed with shame and rage, she screamed, “What are you waiting for? Hold her down and strip her clothes off!”
The two followers had been stunned, but now they wanted to help push Tao Yitong around. However, hearing Xu Tingting’s command, they didn’t dare move stripping someone was going too far.
One plump girl hesitated, “This isn’t good, isn’t she still the Tao family’s adopted daughter?”
Xu Tingting’s rage overrode her reason. She shouted, “What’s there to fear? The Tao family doesn’t want her anymore. Besides, if she’s disgraced in public without clothes, the Tao family will want to cut ties with her even more.”
The two girls stepped forward hesitantly but didn’t grab Tao Yitong immediately.
The system was furious, What kind of people are these? Don’t they know the one who starts the trouble is the one at fault! Host, don’t be afraid. At worst, I’ll release electricity and knock them out.
Tao Yitong hadn’t expected the system to have offensive means. She thought it was purely a support type. She mused, So your true form is a Pikachu?
The system was helpless, I might not be a Pikachu, but you certainly studied under a master of mischief.
Tao Yitong smiled, Relax, no need for that much trouble.
She stepped forward with ease, picked up a long-necked flower vase Xu Tingting had left on the sink, and smashed it against the edge of the counter. The crisp sound made the other three tremble. When the jagged, sharp edge was pointed at Xu Tingting, everyone froze.
Xu Tingting’s face turned pale. “You…” She retreated as the glistening glass shard followed her.
Once the three were huddled in one direction, Tao Yitong gave them a sharp look. “Get out. If you bother me again, we’ll all go down together. Life is boring anyway; I’d rather reincarnate early.”
The three fled the restroom as if pursued by ghosts, not even looking to see who was standing outside.
See that, System? That’s called wild.
Tao Yitong walked to the mirror and leisurely tidied her hair.
Maybe this is called ‘psycho.’ I feel like they won’t bother you for a long time,] the system noted happily before adding, But there’s still someone outside the restroom.
Tao Yitong sensed it too. Without turning, she raised her voice: “Did you enjoy the show? Any comments?”
Someone walked in briskly it was Shi Yan, her lips pressed into a serious, stern line. “When will you learn to restrain your temper?”
Shi Yan looked at her with a frown. Without the Tao family’s protection, things would become difficult. Not everyone would be as easily scared off as Xu Tingting.
“I can’t change.” Tao Yitong turned to look at her, her peach-blossom eyes naturally enchanting but now tinged with defiance. “Before, I could rely on favor; now, I’m the one with nothing to lose. If I have to suffer, I’d rather die.”
Shi Yan was so angry she wanted to leave, but looking at Yitong’s profile, she remembered the girl following her as a child, calling her “Yan-yan.” Her resolve to ignore her wavered.
“Come with me,” Shi Yan commanded, her tone a mix of order and sigh.
The Guest Room
People with rigorous personalities are great they consider everything and prepare for emergencies.
She just brought an extra set of clothes, but the way you describe it makes it sound like grand strategic foresight.
Tao Yitong sat in the guest room listening to the system. She smiled lazily, But it’s the truth.
Shi Yan had brought her here and left to get the spare clothes. Tao Yitong didn’t dislike her upright and soft-hearted personality.
She waited patiently. Hearing no sound of Shi Yan returning, she walked to the window. The villa was decorated with colorful lights, looking beautiful even in the dark. But as she opened the window, the noise of the party seemed to fade. Fog began to roll in, making the night look hazy.
Tao Yitong’s gaze grew alert. System, I feel something is wrong.
A strange, eerie feeling surfaced, as if the whole world was slowing to a stop.
The system’s voice sounded after a while: There are abnormal energy fluctuations outside the villa. The space is also fluctuating. It’s highly likely another ‘Otherworld creature invasion’ mentioned by the protagonist is happening.
Tao Yitong looked out, but the far-off scenery was hidden by night mist. Just then, the system exclaimed, Host, look at the sky!
Tao Yitong looked up and saw a large white ship floating in the night sky. It was very high but close to the villa.
What is that?
The system was uncertain: It seems to be something used to protect ordinary people. The protection level is very high; I can’t break through it.
Tao Yitong said immediately: [Then don’t touch it. We don’t want to arouse suspicion. She was worried about Jiang Zitan. If it were a monster invasion, Zitan would definitely act. How are the others outside?
Since that ship appeared, everyone in this area is protected by a power likely a Cordon. Their consciousness is chaotic; they don’t know what’s happening.
Can I go out and see?
Host, you can move freely in the villa, but I don’t recommend going out. There’s a Cordon blocking the view unless you’re near the battlefield, and there are conscious people outside. You might run into them.
Other conscious people? Are they espers?
The system spoke slowly: I’m not sure, because they aren’t participating in the battle.
Who are they? Is Tao Yue there?
Host, this is interesting. Two conscious people: one is indeed your sister, and the other is your fiancé, Xie Chu.
Tao Yitong’s eyes flickered. Both are my acquaintances?
Yes, and they seem to have noticed each other, but both are carefully hiding from one another.
Tao Yitong laughed. They are likely espers too. But Tao Yue’s height and age are too obvious; even with a disguise, she’d be easy to identify here.
As for her fiancé not acting, Tao Yitong couldn’t guess why. Looking back, many things were explained like why her sister was so close to Jiang Zitan. They likely knew each other before.
About twenty minutes later, the system told her the battle was over. The large white ship disappeared into the clouds. The system noted it hadn’t left the city but was using high-tech to remain perfectly invisible.
Shi Yan returned shortly after, looking a bit dazed. She put the spare clothes on the table and sat on the sofa. “Hurry and change.” She seemed to have forgotten to step out, unlike her usual self.
Tao Yitong pulled the curtains and began to change. Since they were both girls, she didn’t have many reservations. She unzipped the side of her dress she chose this dress specifically because the zipper was easy to reach without help.
She didn’t want to explain the bandages on her body to her aunt, but she didn’t escape Shi Yan’s questioning. As she put on the skirt and was about to put on the T-shirt, Shi Yan asked, “What happened to your back?”
Back to the Cruise Ship
“He’s much stronger than me that’s Prince Carnaro?! Who is the other one? Must be S-class too! Two S-classes are fighting! Run!”
The battle between two S-classes could destroy the cruise ship in an instant. Those at A-class and below would be crushed by the shockwaves. But they couldn’t run; many were fugitives who had stepped into the Bureau’s traps. The ship had become their prison.
“So it’s you. My stupid sister, hiding in the Chinese official institutions. You came out on your own, saving me the trouble of catching you,” Carnaro said, clutching his wound. He found his recovery was unusually slow.
“Same to you, idiot!”
Carnaro sent out a signal for gathering, but strangely, neither the Sea Demon nor the Earth Demon responded. His face darkened. “There’s more than one S-class here!”
Noreen only sneered without answering.
Carnaro decided to kill Noreen first, then abandon ship to smuggle himself into Hai City for the Artifact. He had killed two brothers and held three portions of the Ancestor’s gift; even with a pierced heart, he was stronger than Noreen.
Within minutes, the ship’s roof was blown off. Carnaro’s left hand held the Ancestor’s power, and Noreen was sent flying into the auction stage, crashing a hole into the floor.
While others fled, two strange people remained: a woman holding a wheelchair, and a little girl in the wheelchair looking at Noreen. They seemed unaffected by the S-class power.
Noreen should have defended against Carnaro’s next attack, but when she locked eyes with the girl’s blood-red pupils, a familiar terror swallowed her thoughts.
The Village
After her Master’s passing, she would return to her hometown with Taotie to survey the area. Taotie’s deterrence was long-lasting, so no monsters dared to come.
Just as she thought this, Jiang Zitan showed her a video. They had just arrived, yet a paranormal video from Taoli Village was pushed to them. In the video, a streamer inadvertently filmed a human-shaped thing tearing and eating a wild boar.
Tao Yitong took one look and knew it wasn’t a human in a costume. It was a real monster.
Her face felt a little… stingy.
