The Real Heiress Just Wants to Be a Lazy Fish - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Past Events
“I’ll guarantee it with my life! The true culprit is absolutely not Noreen! She would rather sleep in a coffin for a hundred years than do something this complicated!”
“Senior sister, we are still investigating this. Don’t get too agitated. And please, don’t tell Elder Ge about this; her current health indicators aren’t great, and she shouldn’t be worrying about these things anymore.”
“We wouldn’t dare tell her. If we did, she’d probably come over right now and crack your head open!”
“I appreciate your understanding, senior sister.”
“But the one from Mount Mao is already on the way.”
The door to the Director’s office was not closed. Through the gap, Tao Yitong saw the taciturn Director, now draped in a hue of melancholy so deep he looked as if he might crumble.
On the Cruise Ship
The energy surged past them. The monsters could almost hear the murmurs of an abyss; they felt as if their very souls were being sucked toward it.
“Another S-class… who on earth drew these S-classes here! Where are the people from the Lester family? Didn’t they say it was absolutely safe here! A bunch of liars! Did they do this on purpose!”
“It’s the Special Affairs Bureau!” The monsters broke into a frantic barrage of curses. “They drew the Bureau here! Is that S-class the Guardian of H-Province?”
“It’s over, it’s over… I’ve hidden for so many years; I shouldn’t have come out just for these auction items. The Bureau is fishing they must be fishing, wuwu…”
“Didn’t the Lesters say an S-class vampire Prince was guarding this ship? Where is he?”
“He died right there!”
“An S-class Prince died just like that, without a sound… It was that young girl who did it. Who is she?! She…”
“Heavens, what is that floating on the sea? It’s huge! An octopus?”
While the guests were trembling over the death of Carnaro, someone with sharp eyes noticed something on the sea surface outside.
“Is that… a monster from the sea trench? The power on its corpse hasn’t completely dissipated. It seems it was also… S-class.”
The Sea Demon’s corpse drifted on the water, a massive hole right in the center of its head, matching the size of the light pillar from moments ago.
Just how many S-classes are on this ship? The monsters were suddenly struck with disbelief. S-classes were dying, yet they, at the center of the struggle, were still alive.
Slap! Suddenly, a pale, scarred hand gripped the ship’s railing.
The attention of every monster and esper was instantly drawn. It wasn’t because of the noise the hand made, but because they felt a terrifying power approaching.
A pitch-black figure vaulted over the railing. She was panting softly, seawater mixed with blood dripping onto the deck. She looked disheveled, yet no one present dared to underestimate her.
“A monster…”
“No, looks like an esper.”
The figure, bearing monstrous traits, looked up. Her blood-red eyes swept the area. Every monster instinctively lowered their head, trembling and not daring to speak, fearing they might attract her attention.
“Captain…” An Yu had seen Tao Yitong like this before, and it still left her with psychological scars. She was terrified that the Captain would lose control again and the scariest part wasn’t the loss of control itself, but that the Captain’s lover wasn’t here. No one could soothe the rampaging beast.
Fortunately, after killing the Sea Demon who dared use Jiang Zitan as an illusion, Tao Yitong’s sanity slowly returned. She retracted the beastly parts of her body, turning back into her charming, lovely self.
She walked into the cruise ship, locking eyes with Floy, who was still possessing the child. The killing intent she hadn’t fully reined in swirled around her like a beast ready to strike. The pressure made Floy narrow her eyes slightly.
“Human.” Floy’s fingertips tapped the wheelchair armrest. China had produced many formidable people lately; this young human before her wasn’t even thirty, yet she wielded such immense power.
Oh, not just one. There was another human even better at hiding; Floy couldn’t pinpoint her location for now, but she could feel a dangerous silk thread coiled around the neck of her soul.
These two young humans both possessed special powers geniuses rarely seen in a thousand years of history were gathered here. Even if her main body came in person, it would be troublesome.
“Human… it seems the news was a bait you released with them to lure Carnaro. Fine. If you don’t want to go home, playing outside for another century or two is no problem.” Floy’s face still held a smile. “You can accompany your human friend through the rest of her life.”
She leaned in and whispered into Noreen’s ear. At such a close distance, her breath and the cool touch fell on Noreen’s cheek like a blurred, light kiss.
“Remember to come home then. Don’t wait for big sister to come pick you up herself.”
Noreen felt as if she had been grazed by the scales of a venomous snake. Her heart held nothing but pure fear.
Floy departed, and the child’s body instantly went limp. Xu Musi, who had been suppressing her terror the whole way, immediately embraced her sister’s small body.
Tao Yitong sighed in relief. That was the first Prince of the vampires recorded in textbooks; even making eye contact felt like a crushing weight. Fortunately, the other had no intention of fighting. Tao Yitong had exhausted too much stamina in the sea, and her calves were trembling now. A real fight would have been a disaster.
She took the coat An Yu handed her, hiding her wounds beneath the black fabric.
“Captain, your injuries…” An Yu was frantic with worry.
Tao Yitong made a “shh” gesture. There were still many monsters watching; she couldn’t show weakness now.
“The Master of Earth Demons, the Sea Demon, and Prince Carnaro are all dead. Will you put on the handcuffs quietly, or do you intend to resist to the end?” She let the monsters choose for themselves.
The members of the Special Affairs Bureau hidden among the guests revealed their IDs. Once confirmed that they were indeed from the Bureau, most monsters lost the will to resist. A few troublemakers who were about to move settled down after Tao Yitong crushed one of their heads from a distance.
“You traitor! Prince Carnaro treated you well, and you actually betrayed him!” Carnaro’s subordinates cursed loudly upon seeing An Yu standing behind Tao Yitong. An Yu ignored their impotent rage, but Noreen delivered a slap so hard it nearly knocked their heads off.
Tao Yitong wanted to move as well, but her injuries made her a bit slow, so Noreen beat her to it.
The people of the Lester family were scared witless. The old patriarch tottered over, trying to negotiate with Tao Yitong. He knew the fate of being caught by China. They could maintain their foundation when a Prince protected them, but now that the Prince was dead…
The Past
When the Taotie soul remnant first broke the seal, it was severely wounded by several S-class espers working together. It then fled. The wounded remnant was originally no match for her grandmother, but on the path of pursuit, she encountered a car. In that car was a pregnant woman about to give birth.
The Taotie soul remnant brought disaster. The anomaly between heaven and earth looked like the end of the world winds howled and lightning flashed. But she still heard the wailing of the pregnant woman in that car. That was her daughter.
The disaster caused by Taotie was quickly suppressed. The car successfully delivered the woman to the hospital, but the people inside never knew the price paid to settle that catastrophe.
Everyone thought the Taotie soul remnant had been completely eradicated by the Team One Captain at the cost of her life. However, Tao Yitong’s appearance years later let them know just how cunning that Taotie was.
To survive, Taotie had parasiticized its last bit of power onto the fetus in the woman’s womb and went into hibernation. But Taotie hadn’t expected that the fragile human child would be so troublesome; after all these years, it was actually the one being suppressed!
“It was you who killed her!” Tao Yitong gritted her teeth, using her power to grip the thing deep within her soul. The entity did not back down, striking back with sharp teeth.
I would have loved to kill her myself! Unfortunately, she sought death on her own. If she hadn’t shared her life-preserving power between the two of you back then, she wouldn’t have died.
