The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 96
“Remember to wait for me, Yu Kunian.”
Song Wenzhi didn’t notice anything; her brows were only slightly furrowed.
Yu Kunian brushed a stray strand of hair away from the Omega’s cheek, then gently stroked those furrowed brows with her fingertip. This caused Song Wenzhi to unconsciously lean closer to her, burying half of her face into the Alpha’s neck.
Her finger paused for a moment. Song Wenzhi’s breath fell against Yu Kunian’s collarbone, bringing a slight sensation of itchiness.
Yu Kunian turned off the projector. After a moment, the entire room fell into silence. The Alpha moved very quietly; only after she had slowly tidied up did she lie down while holding the Omega. The room was somewhat dim. Yu Kunian leaned in very close, staring intently at Song Wenzhi’s familiar sleeping face in the shadows.
When Song Wenzhi opened her eyes again, she found herself with Yu Kunian’s arm around her waist, having slept that way all night.
The Omega instinctively tried to break free, which naturally woke the Alpha. Yu Kunian opened her eyes halfway and said sleepily, “Morning, Zhizhi.”
Once she was fully awake, Yu Kunian realized that she had somehow fallen asleep last night. She had originally intended to leave and return to her own room to rest after turning off the projector.
The Alpha sat up. Looking at Song Wenzhi, who had already gotten out of bed, she hurriedly said, “Zhizhi, I can explain. Last night I accidentally—”
“It’s fine.” Song Wenzhi interrupted her. She wasn’t angry; her expression remained calm. “I’m not blaming you, Yu Kunian.”
The lingering warmth of the Alpha’s palm seemed to remain on her waist. The Omega lowered her gaze, the corners of her mouth curling into an almost imperceptible arc. “I slept very well.”
With that, Song Wenzhi turned to go wash up.
It took a long moment for Yu Kunian to react to what Song Wenzhi meant. Her tone rose with joy as she called out toward Song Wenzhi, “I had a good night’s sleep too.”
The Omega didn’t respond again. Yu Kunian got out of bed as well. Seeing Song Wenzhi washing her face, she approached and stopped beside her with a smile. She helped tuck back the hair that had been dampened by water droplets and then used a hair tie to pull it back so it wouldn’t hang down and get wet again.
Just like in the past, Yu Kunian did it naturally.
Yu Kunian hadn’t forgotten these habits; even after all this time, she still maintained them, as if they had never been apart.
After washing up, Song Wenzhi stood up straight. Her gaze met Yu Kunian’s eyes. After a moment of silence, she asked, “Why are you staring at me?”
Yu Kunian blurted out, “It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at you like this.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, they both froze.
It had been a very long time since they had slept together, woken up together, and washed up together.
Yu Kunian always realized in hindsight how precious those past moments were. What used to be mundane was now a luxury.
Once she snapped out of it, the Alpha tried to cover it up: “I mean, I didn’t expect to see you the moment I opened my eyes today. It was a pleasant surprise.”
Song Wenzhi gave a quiet “Mm” in response and handed Yu Kunian a new toothbrush. “What time did I fall asleep yesterday?”
“Probably…” Yu Kunian took the brush. To be honest, she didn’t remember clearly either. “Halfway through the movie, I think.”
“Was the movie good?” The Omega awkwardly brought up the topic. It was just a movie she had picked at random; she hadn’t even remembered the title.
Yu Kunian gave a slightly guilty smile. She hadn’t been paying attention at all; her mind had been entirely focused on the Omega. How could she care about the movie’s content? She answered vaguely, “I didn’t finish it, so it’s hard to say.”
Hearing this, Song Wenzhi added, “Then let’s find a chance to finish it together.”
A new invitation. The words “we together” were pronounced very clearly.
Yu Kunian nodded without hesitation. “Sure.” After saying that, the Alpha looked away to squeeze out the toothpaste. Song Wenzhi opened her mouth again as if hesitating; it seemed what she originally wanted to say wasn’t about the movie. “Yu Kunian, I—”
Before she could finish, she was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Song Wenzhi turned her head toward the outside. Xia Weichi’s voice came through: “Xiao Zhi, are you awake?”
The Omega replied, “I’m already up.”
Song Wenzhi walked toward the door, leaving Yu Kunian alone to brush her teeth while trying to figure out what the Omega had been about to say.
When she opened the door, Xia Weichi looked serious. “Xiao Zhi, are you ready?”
“Not yet. Did something happen?” Song Wenzhi asked.
Xia Weichi said, “They sent a message today, but this time it’s not for us to go to the medical station.”
Song Wenzhi’s expression immediately turned serious. It had been a long time since they had heard from the other party, and now that they were contacting them again for a location other than the medical station, it meant they likely had a chance to infiltrate the inner circle.
“When?” Song Wenzhi thought for a moment and asked.
Xia Weichi handed her the phone. “Two hours from now. Wait at the entrance of the research institute.”
Song Wenzhi took the phone and looked at the message that had arrived recently. Before she could speak, Yu Kunian walked over and asked, “What’s wrong? Does Director Xia have an arrangement?”
Xia Weichi took her phone back. For a split second, she was surprised that Yu Kunian had actually slept in the same room as Song Wenzhi last night. Her gaze flickered toward Yu Kunian before landing on Song Wenzhi.
“You two…”
Song Wenzhi hurriedly said, “Nothing happened.”
Yu Kunian also smiled. “I just accidentally fell asleep.”
Xia Weichi looked into the room with half-suspicion. Song Wenzhi glanced at Yu Kunian and then said, “Weichi, wait for me to grab a jacket. I’ll leave with you now.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian was surprised. “Why are you leaving so suddenly? What’s the rush?”
“There’s an urgent matter at the research institute,” Song Wenzhi explained to her. “Weichi and I have to go.”
Yu Kunian asked, “Do you need my help?”
Song Wenzhi: “No need.”
As Xia Weichi had said before, they shouldn’t involve Andrea in this matter.
As she put on her jacket and walked out, the Omega remembered the words she hadn’t finished earlier. Before leaving, she said to Yu Kunian, “After this is resolved, I have something to tell you. Remember to wait for me, Yu Kunian.”
The Alpha nodded. “Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
Just because the Omega said that, Yu Kunian began to let her imagination run wild, guessing every possibility of what Song Wenzhi wanted to say to her.
On the way to the research institute, both Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi looked troubled.
On one hand, Song Wenzhi was happy that after working so hard, they finally had a chance to find more evidence. On the other hand, she knew that obtaining evidence wouldn’t be easy and carried great risks, so she felt a constant sense of tension.
Even though they were from the research institute and knew the other party wouldn’t dare act rashly, she couldn’t help but worry. If they were caught, they could face immense danger and might never be able to rescue the long-trapped Omegas. They couldn’t help but feel the pressure.
While waiting at the research institute’s entrance, Xia Weichi said to Song Wenzhi, “Today is just for scouting. We mustn’t act rashly to avoid suspicion. There will definitely be more than one chance. Safety comes first.”
Song Wenzhi naturally understood. “I know.”
“Xiao Zhi, relax,” Xia Weichi comforted her. “We will rescue those Omegas.”
“The sooner, the better,” Song Wenzhi remarked.
Not long after, a car stopped in front of them. There were people in both the driver and passenger seats. The driver was J, the one who had been in contact with them recently.
After getting in the car, both Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi were blindfolded and given earplugs. All their electronic devices were confiscated.
J’s tone was relatively mild: “To avoid any accidents, I hope you two understand.”
The car drove for a long time. Even though they initially tried to remember the number of turns and straightaways from the institute to the destination, they were eventually confused by J’s deliberate detours and circling.
When they finally stopped, they were guided underground. The smell here was incredibly complex; besides the various Omega pheromones, there was a heavy, overpowering scent of wine used to mask all the traces of experiments.
It seemed this place was an illegal experimental base disguised as a winery.
However, there were many wineries in New York, and since they hadn’t seen the external environment, they couldn’t determine the direction at all.
J led them into the laboratory dressed as an underground wine cellar. There were many Omegas here, all in a state of coma. The quiet atmosphere made their footsteps sound almost deafening. Song Wenzhi suppressed her emotions, feigning calm on the outside while a storm raged in her heart.
The number of deceived Omegas here was clearly much higher than they had previously anticipated.
J stopped at the end of the wine cellar, next to an empty lab room. J invited them in to talk.
The precision instruments in the room glinted coldly under the lights. J smiled and began to communicate with them in a slightly accented voice. Song Wenzhi had originally thought they were there to examine the Omegas, but now it seemed that wasn’t the case.
The other party got straight to the point: “I want to discuss a partnership with you two.”
After saying that, J looked at Song Wenzhi. “Three hundred thousand for one experiment.”
Xia Weichi’s gaze became wary. “What do you mean?”
“To be honest, I didn’t plan on discussing this partnership, but someone is willing to pay. I’m happy to do business. Three hundred thousand is just the base price; we can add more after the experiment ends.” J didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. “Don’t worry, it won’t be like the other Omegas. In fact, it’s beneficial for you.”
J was referring to Song Wenzhi.
Xia Weichi stood up immediately. “This partnership is out of the question.”
“This lady’s gland is excellent, though it has some flaws. The experiment we want to do is gland repair—doesn’t that sound like a good deal?”
Xia Weichi sneered. “So far, there have been no successful cases of complete gland repair. You think we’ll believe you can do something even the research institute can’t?”
J smiled without answering. After looking at Song Wenzhi for a moment, he simply said, “Believe it or not, it’s up to you.”
Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi both knew clearly that the research institute had a dedicated department for gland repair research, but the results were minimal. What J was saying was absolutely impossible. The experiments here had always focused on destroying or transferring glands; they wouldn’t be so kind-hearted.
So Song Wenzhi said, “What if we don’t accept this partnership?”
J narrowed his eyes, as if he had finally been waiting for this. “Then the subject will be changed to Andrea. How about that?”
