The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 95
Grant This Omega All the Luck
“This is too precious, Yu Kunian.” Although Song Wenzhi didn’t know the exact price, she could tell at a glance that the earrings were incredibly expensive.
Yu Kunian took them out of the box. “Wenzhi, they suit you. You deserve them.”
Yu Kunian was never stingy when it came to things that suited Song Wenzhi. Similarly, she hoped Song Wenzhi wouldn’t refuse them simply because of the price. To an Alpha, Song Wenzhi’s worth far exceeded any monetary value attached to a gift for an Omega.
Yu Kunian wanted to give Song Wenzhi what she considered the best; she wanted to hold all the good things in the world in her hands and offer them to her.
“I don’t have an occasion to wear them,” Song Wenzhi said, looking at Yu Kunian.
Perhaps the Omega was already familiar with Yu Kunian’s habits. She had long known that Yu Kunian came from a wealthy background, but every time she realized the scale of it, she still felt a sharp intake of breath. Song Wenzhi instinctively felt that Yu Kunian’s formal gifts were too heavy; she felt she lacked a sufficiently solemn occasion to use them, and that felt like a waste.
Yu Kunian chuckled softly. She reached out and removed the studs Song Wenzhi was currently wearing. “Wenzhi, you can wear them now, and you can wear them every day. These aren’t things that require a special ‘occasion.’ You can wear them whenever you want. They are just a pair of earrings; there’s no rule saying they can only appear at important events. They are the same as your other earrings—ordinary and common.”
As she put on the new earrings, the Alpha’s fingertips lingered on Song Wenzhi’s earlobe. After a phantom-like stroking motion, Song Wenzhi instinctively reached up and grasped her wrist. Yu Kunian’s gaze paused for a moment before returning to the Omega’s cheek. “They look exceptionally beautiful.”
“I…” Song Wenzhi still hesitated. The sudden, unfamiliar weight on her earlobes made her feel momentarily unaccustomed.
Yu Kunian clasped her fingers in return and spoke softly, “Wenzhi, I hope that this time, you won’t refuse me.”
Song Wenzhi went silent for a brief moment. This was the first birthday Yu Kunian had spent with her, and the level of care put into it was obvious. She knew the Alpha must have started preparing a long time ago.
“Alright, I’ll accept them,” the Omega said, looking into Yu Kunian’s eyes.
Yu Kunian’s smile deepened. She picked up a glass of pre-poured red wine and handed it to Song Wenzhi. She added, “Happy birthday, Wenzhi. I make a wish upon the fireworks: I wish for you to always be happy, for your life to be smooth, and for you to obtain everything you desire.”
Please, let the heavens protect Song Wenzhi and grant this Omega all the luck in the world.
Peace, joy, and may all things go as she wishes.
The crisp sound of clinking glasses rang out for just an instant. Yu Kunian’s smile appeared both hazy and clear under the night sky. Song Wenzhi took a sip of the wine; as the liquid lingered on her tongue, she tasted a very faint astringency.
After staring at Yu Kunian’s face for a long time, Song Wenzhi set down her glass, stepped forward, and gently embraced Yu Kunian. The cold wind swept past her chilly nose. Song Wenzhi lowered her eyes and raised her hand to stroke the Alpha’s back.
During the moment Yu Kunian stood stunned, her heart seemed to skip a beat. Then, she heard Song Wenzhi’s voice by her ear:
“Yu Kunian, I hope the same for you.”
The soft tone was like spring flowers blooming. The Omega’s hair brushed against Yu Kunian’s cheek. Feeling Song Wenzhi’s embrace, the Alpha didn’t even dare to move, freezing in place for a long time before replying, “Okay.”
A second round of fireworks ascended, outlining the silhouettes of the two women.
The petals on the ground were swept up by the wind, fluttering around them. Neither was the first to let go. This addictive embrace was deeply memorable.
Song Wenzhi thought to herself: the first day of her twenty-fifth year was a very happy one.
Because of Yu Kunian, and because of the blessing.
The people downstairs had all run out to watch the fireworks, surprised that there was such a wonderful display today. Only Xia Weichi stood still, looking toward the terrace. She couldn’t see clearly, but someone should be there.
The sound of the sky exploding drowned out the cheers of the people around her. Someone asked her where Song Wenzhi had gone; she smiled without answering, withdrawing her gaze to look at the lit-up night sky.
Xia Weichi’s smile gradually faded, and her gaze became calm and deep.
Sometimes, one can lie to oneself for a while. But until today, Xia Weichi couldn’t quite describe the feeling—she only felt a profound realization that she had never truly held onto that person. Waiting was her most willing lie, even though she knew from the start that there might never be a conclusion.
There was no comparison; it was simply that Song Wenzhi suited Yu Kunian.
That was all.
Xia Weichi was Song Wenzhi’s good friend—a close friend of many years. In the future, she would only ever hold that identity. She would no longer ask for more, nor would she ever have the chance to. At this moment, she knew she had to keep certain words hidden forever.
Today, she would only say one thing: “Happy birthday, Xiao Zhi.”
The party ended very late. Xia Weichi had assigned the rooms; Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi’s rooms were right next to each other. If one wasn’t paying attention at night, no one would know that Yu Kunian had slipped into Song Wenzhi’s room.
Yu Kunian, who had been busy preparing the fireworks earlier, hadn’t had a chance to eat the cake. But now, a piece of cake that had been set aside was sitting on Song Wenzhi’s table. The Alpha was a bit surprised and asked, “You saved this specifically for me?”
Song Wenzhi said, “I saw that you didn’t get to eat any.”
Yu Kunian laughed. “I really didn’t.”
Although she had grown a bit tired of eating the cakes she made herself recently, the thought that Song Wenzhi had specifically saved this for her made the Alpha feel no fatigue at all. Instead, she felt it tasted better than any before. She was even reluctant to finish it, wanting to savor it slowly.
Song Wenzhi got up to wash up. Seeing Yu Kunian eating slowly, she asked, “Do you not like it?”
“I love it.” Yu Kunian was beaming; she was truly incredibly happy.
Song Wenzhi couldn’t help but pause. After a moment of hesitation, she asked again, “Did you make the cake?”
Yu Kunian was stunned. “Wenzhi, how did you know?”
The corners of the Omega’s lips curled up slightly. “A guess.”
Yu Kunian didn’t notice anything unusual. She thought about it—none of the people who came today seemed to know about this. How did Song Wenzhi guess so accurately?
Of course, it didn’t matter. Either way, Yu Kunian had decided to personally bake Song Wenzhi’s birthday cake every year from now on; she hadn’t intended to keep it a secret.
When the cake was finally finished and Yu Kunian had tidied up the trash, Song Wenzhi came out wearing a face mask. Seeing the Alpha stand up, the Omega asked on an impulse, “Yu Kunian, do you want to try one?”
She was referring to the face mask a colleague had recommended, which was said to have great effects.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know why she asked, but seeing Yu Kunian about to leave, she instinctively wanted to make her stay. It was a reflex she hadn’t even expected of herself.
And Yu Kunian, of course, didn’t want to leave so soon. Hearing the Omega’s invitation, she immediately nodded. “Sure.”
Song Wenzhi took out a new one and handed it to Yu Kunian. The Alpha’s smile never faded. She looked at herself in the mirror, her face full of joy; anyone could tell she was in an excellent mood.
When they left the bathroom, Song Wenzhi was sitting on the bed fiddling with the bedside projector. It probably hadn’t been used in a long time, as it took the Omega a while to turn it on. Yu Kunian stood to the side. After the lights were turned off, she looked at the projection on the wall and asked, “Wenzhi, do you want to watch a movie?”
Song Wenzhi gave an “mm,” and then lowered her eyes to find a suitable movie. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Yu Kunian was still standing, so she turned her head and whispered, “Together?”
Actually, she had intended to watch it with Yu Kunian from the start. Watching it alone wouldn’t be very interesting.
The Alpha’s gaze was soft as she nodded. “Together.”
She pulled a chair over to the side of the bed. Yu Kunian sat down. Although the height of the chair was fine, it was clearly not as comfortable as leaning against the headboard.
Song Wenzhi finally selected a movie. It was two and a half hours long. While she appeared to be focused on the film, the Omega’s gaze frequently drifted to Yu Kunian. From her angle, she could only see the Alpha’s profile, but that seemed perfect for stealing glances.
Completely unaware of what the movie was about, the dazed Song Wenzhi was brought back to reality by the alarm she had set ten minutes prior.
It was time to take off the masks.
Song Wenzhi and Yu Kunian stood side by side. Their silhouettes were reflected in the mirror, as if they had returned to Lihua City, where they would always wash up together. These small things were enough to make them feel happy.
Yu Kunian instinctively handed Song Wenzhi a towel. After reaching out, she paused. She turned to look, and the Omega happened to be looking at her too.
Simultaneously, they both remembered those mornings and evenings when the Alpha would habitually hand over the towel to wipe her face.
That was their life—their daily routine, the fine habits, the fact that they had completely adapted to each other’s presence. They had become each other’s closest companions, looking after one another.
But neither spoke. The silence lasted until they returned to the movie. Song Wenzhi pursed her lips. The light from the projector traced her delicate features and her eyes, which were full of emotion.
A moment later, the Omega spoke: “Yu Kunian, come watch from over here.”
Song Wenzhi placed her hand on the space beside her on the bed.
The movie was loud, but Yu Kunian still clearly heard what Song Wenzhi said. Every word fell into her ears, making the Alpha turn her head. Then, her gaze shifted down and saw Song Wenzhi’s hand.
Song Wenzhi added as an excuse, “The view is better from here.”
Yu Kunian’s eyes crinkled with a smile. She stood up, locked eyes with Song Wenzhi for a few seconds, and then nodded. The Alpha thought: today must be her lucky day.
They didn’t sit extremely close, but they were close enough for each to be in the other’s line of sight. Originally, Yu Kunian had been trying to watch the movie seriously, but later on, she lost all focus.
At some point, the Omega began to feel drowsy. The sound in her ears couldn’t prevent her from falling asleep. Song Wenzhi’s internal clock didn’t allow her to last until the end of the movie; her eyes closed first.
In a daze, her head leaned against something, and then she instinctively found a comfortable position to sleep.
The moment the Omega leaned against her shoulder, Yu Kunian lost interest in everything else. Her entire body stiffened, not daring to move for fear of waking Song Wenzhi. After realizing Song Wenzhi was sound asleep, she carefully turned her head to look. The Omega was leaning toward her; the distance they had previously maintained had completely vanished.
Yu Kunian’s eyes were full of smiles. Her fingertips phantom-brushed over Song Wenzhi’s pert nose and finally stopped just outside her pale pink lips. The Alpha wanted so badly to kiss her there, to exchange breaths, to feel the warmth of her lips and Song Wenzhi’s scent.
But in the end, Yu Kunian only took Song Wenzhi’s hand. That warm kiss landed on the Omega’s fingertip, light as a dragonfly skimming the water.
