The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 93
“Yu Kunian, I care about you very much.”
Cheng Lu replied through gritted teeth, “Yes, a despicable Omega who always acts innocent.”
“If you hate Omegas so much, why did you get married? Do you have some reason you absolutely had to?” Yu Kunian asked again.
Cheng Lu took a deep breath to calm her emotions. “I marked her,” she said, the words feeling like a badge of shame. “A lifetime mark.”
In all her life, she had loathed Omegas the most, knowing how malicious their nature could be, but she never imagined she would one day fall for an Omega’s scheme.
The woman had broken in when Cheng Lu was vulnerable during her rut, and she happened to be in heat herself. That Omega had clearly come prepared; with their high pheromone compatibility, it was difficult for Cheng Lu to maintain her sanity. Instinct forced her to mark the girl.
She had been seduced by that Omega.
Hearing Cheng Lu’s words, Yu Kunian fell silent. She knew Cheng Lu’s character; even if she loathed Omegas, now that a lifetime mark had been made, she wouldn’t fail to take responsibility. However, this unexpected marriage was likely extremely unsatisfactory for Cheng Lu. The Alpha certainly wouldn’t be giving her a warm welcome, regardless of whether the Omega’s intentions were deliberate or not.
Yu Kunian found it hard to tell if she should offer congratulations or condolences, but seeing as Cheng Lu was still in a towering rage, she thought it best to say nothing for now.
“Which Omega is it? What is she after, and are you certain it was intentional?” Yu Kunian still wanted to clarify things, hoping there wasn’t a misunderstanding. What if it was just an accident?
Cheng Lu pinched the bridge of her nose and said in a heavy voice, “An Omega I’ve never even heard of, named… Wen Yan. Her family background isn’t much, but they’re quite good at extortion. Her family opened their mouths and asked for two million… they’re treating my marriage like a business transaction. They even said they’d take me to court if I didn’t marry her. It’s truly an eye-opener.”
Cheng Lu let out a cold laugh; she had truly never seen such people. “And that Omega is even more annoying. She’s always acting pitiful, as if I’m going to eat her alive, when I haven’t even—”
“Wait a minute,” Yu Kunian interrupted her, her expression stiffening. “Who did you say? Wen Yan? Do you have a photo? Let me see.”
Cheng Lu sent a photo over. Yu Kunian confirmed it; it was indeed Jiang Qiu’s fiancée—Wen Yan.
Yu Kunian felt her mind go into a whirlwind, her fingertips trembling slightly. Putting aside for a moment why Wen Yan would end up in such a situation with Cheng Lu, the sudden change involving Wen Yan and Jiang Qiu made the Alpha’s heart skip a beat.
Jiang Qiu’s recent strange behavior hadn’t been an illusion.
The other woman had never mentioned anything about Wen Yan to her. Even if she were busy, if Wen Yan didn’t plan on getting married, Jiang Qiu would definitely have told her and asked her to look after Wen Yan in New York.
But she hadn’t.
Yu Kunian didn’t have time for more words; she told Cheng Lu to get some rest, hung up, and dialed Jiang Qiu’s number. As expected, no one answered. The Alpha then turned and called Li Ci.
Li Ci hadn’t woken up yet. Half-asleep, she muttered, “President Yu, do you know what time it is back home? It’s not even six o’clock. Not even six… it’s very unethical of you to disturb someone’s dreams so early in the morning.”
Yu Kunian got straight to the point: “When you went back to Lihua City to see Jiang Qiu before, did you notice anything unusual?”
Li Ci sighed, knowing sleep was no longer an option. “What could be unusual? She can talk, she can hear, and she hasn’t starved to death. She seemed fine.”
Yu Kunian frowned. “Did you see her often? Where did you meet? Did you go over to the tavern side?”
Hearing the urgency in Yu Kunian’s voice, Li Ci thought carefully before saying, “Not often. I saw her once or twice at Zhaoming Biotech a while back, but after that, I didn’t see her again. I went to that tavern you mentioned once, but I didn’t see her there; I ran into Yu Sheng instead. Why? Could something have happened to Jiang Qiu?”
“I think she’s been acting strange lately,” Yu Kunian said.
Li Ci helped Yu Kunian look into Jiang Qiu’s recent movements. Although she appeared to be showing up normally at Zhaoming Biotech, Li Ci discovered that Jiang Qiu only appeared at the company, and Yu Sheng was always by her side. Yu Kunian felt it was suspicious that the two of them had become so close, but before she could figure it out, Li Ci discovered Jiang Qiu’s whereabouts.
The place where Yu Kunian had once been held under house arrest was now housing Jiang Qiu.
Regarding this, Li Ci remarked: “It’s a miracle. Did you buy that villa specifically to lock people up? You’re truly wicked, Yu Kunian.”
Yu Kunian: “…Heh.”
If she had known her house would be used for such a thing, she would have sold it when she left Lihua City.
Now she knew the culprit was Yu Sheng, but when it came to this matter, Jiang Qiu couldn’t explain it clearly over the phone even after talking for a long time. Li Ci lost her patience and, without a word, dragged her out just as Yu Kunian had done last time. Upon hearing that Wen Yan had gotten married in New York, Jiang Qiu decided to buy the earliest flight out.
Yu Kunian pinched the bridge of her nose. She was currently on her way to the Union, the sky already dark, the dim night air giving the Alpha a bit of a headache.
At the end of the day, for an Alpha like Jiang Qiu to be locked up by an Omega like Yu Sheng suggested that Jiang Qiu was, to some extent, a willing participant. And she hadn’t sensed a thing about what was going on between Jiang Qiu and Yu Sheng. Jiang Qiu had started acting strange shortly after arriving in New York, which also meant they hadn’t just met; they must have been involved before.
“…Tsk.” Yu Kunian suddenly felt that the whole world was incredibly strange.
Today was the day to cooperate with Xia Weichi at the Union’s research lab for pheromone extraction. Yu Kunian arrived a few minutes late, her mind a mess. Upon entering, she found Song Wenzhi waiting for her at the lab door.
“Zhizhi.” Yu Kunian forced herself to push those matters aside for a moment and smiled. “Have you been waiting long?”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. “Not long.”
Yu Kunian brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear. The Omega didn’t refuse. As the Alpha’s warm fingertips touched her cool skin, Song Wenzhi met Yu Kunian’s gaze, her cheeks then cradled by the Alpha’s hands. “You have a habit of arriving early, so you must have been waiting at least ten minutes. I won’t let you wait anymore, not even for a second, or I’ll feel terribly guilty.”
A hint of a smile flickered in Song Wenzhi’s eyes. “Yu Kunian, you’re being dramatic.”
“Not dramatic at all.” Yu Kunian let go and walked in beside her. Xia Weichi had already calibrated the instruments inside.
The integration with the CPP team had gone well. Xia Weichi was now able to produce agents using the new equipment with good results, so she had called Yu Kunian in immediately.
They could get the finished agent today, but it would take some time. After releasing her pheromones, Yu Kunian went with Song Wenzhi to the lounge to wait for Xia Weichi’s success.
Sitting beside Yu Kunian, Song Wenzhi keenly sensed the Alpha’s unusual emotional state.
“Are you tired?” the Omega asked with concern.
Yu Kunian shook her head and leaned back with her eyes narrowed. “It was just releasing pheromones; it didn’t affect me.”
Song Wenzhi frowned. “But you don’t look well.”
Her complexion was a bit pale, as if she had something on her mind.
Yu Kunian curled her lips and met Song Wenzhi’s gaze. “Is Zhizhi worried about me?”
The Omega said, “Yu Kunian, I care about you very much.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian’s heart stirred. She leaned forward, drawing closer to the Omega before her. She desperately wanted to steal a kiss, but after her breathing quickened for a moment, she suppressed the urge.
The Alpha’s eyes crinkled. She asked playfully, “Why?”
“Because it’s you,” Song Wenzhi replied.
Yu Kunian smiled, offering reassurance. “I’m fine, Zhizhi.”
Song Wenzhi looked at her, her expression darkening slightly. “Is it because we’re still staying the same, so you…”
She didn’t finish the sentence, but Yu Kunian already knew what she wanted to say.
During her time at the research institute, Yu Kunian’s gestures of goodwill and her constant presence by Song Wenzhi’s side were all to close the distance between their hearts, to show her sincerity, and to melt the former barriers. Although she was indeed still without an official title, Song Wenzhi had grown accustomed to her presence.
The Alpha didn’t feel disappointed; she was happy because she could still walk into Song Wenzhi’s world—they weren’t just staying the same.
Yu Kunian caressed Song Wenzhi’s cheek, her eyes soft as she spoke gently: “Zhizhi, why would you think that? It hasn’t been that long. If I were already rushing to move into a new stage with you, I would be breaking my word. Besides, you have changed, and we have changed too.”
Song Wenzhi didn’t speak. Her breath hitched, and she lowered her eyes, feeling as though she was being overly sensitive.
Regarding her own resistance to restarting this relationship, Song Wenzhi felt she might have developed some psychological issues during her time in Lihua City. She didn’t want to enter a new life with Yu Kunian in such a state.
Song Wenzhi wanted to embrace and kiss Yu Kunian without any burden.
She didn’t want to instinctively feel resistance every time she faced Yu Kunian.
The Omega had never realized she would be in this situation. She wanted to see a psychologist but feared Yu Kunian would worry. Currently, the Alpha only thought she wasn’t ready, but only Song Wenzhi knew that her broken family had made her prone to feeling insecure. She had been very miserable in Yin City. Her decision to marry had been so solemn and firm back then, but now, her state of mind had returned to how it was in Yin City.
An uncontrollable fear weighed down on her heart.
She was afraid that in the next second, this peaceful life would turn into foam.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know why, and she was distressed. She didn’t want to wait too long, nor did she want Yu Kunian to wait too long. But she couldn’t go against her own heart; this resistance felt like a conditioned reflex that had troubled her for a long time.
Yu Kunian remained patient, just as she had been in the past.
Everything was just like the past…
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips curled slightly. A moment later, Yu Kunian took her hand, the Alpha’s palm warm. She spoke again: “Zhizhi, don’t blame yourself, okay?”
The Omega met her gaze, but the word “okay” couldn’t quite make its way out of her throat steadily.
Yu Kunian’s thumb brushed over the back of her hand. She lowered her head and said, “I was just thinking, can I go to your birthday party?”
Song Wenzhi was dazed for a moment; she hadn’t expected Yu Kunian to still be thinking about the conversation from this morning. “That’s all?”
It was clearly a reason that wasn’t entirely convincing. After a moment, the Alpha yielded. She moved closer to Song Wenzhi until they were nearly touching, her hot breath seemingly brushing against the Omega’s ear. “Fine, I’ll confess. I was a bit worried in the lab. After the medicine is made, will Zhizhi no longer need me?”
As an Alpha, if she could no longer provide for the Omega’s needs through pheromones, Yu Kunian would feel insecure, thinking the Omega would no longer rely on her.
Of course, Yu Kunian couldn’t very well say that she was actually worried because Jiang Qiu’s ex-fiancée had suddenly married Cheng Lu, and then she learned that Jiang Qiu had been involved with her own sister. Such a messy situation was something she hadn’t figured out herself yet, so she couldn’t explain it to Song Wenzhi now.
Song Wenzhi seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, though she couldn’t quite describe how she felt.
“You can go,” Song Wenzhi answered Yu Kunian’s questions one by one. “And it’s not as if I won’t have a need for you.”
Yu Kunian’s lips curved upward, her grip tightening slightly. “Zhizhi, I need you very much too. Don’t think too much; just follow your heart, okay?” She was always willing to take it slow, following the Omega’s pace; she had plenty of patience.
With that, Yu Kunian lowered her eyes, her lips brushing lightly against Song Wenzhi’s knuckles.
The contact was warm—an unintentional kiss, yet deeply affectionate. The sensation felt like an electric spark, causing the Omega’s breathing to quicken.
After a long while, Song Wenzhi also gripped her hand. “Okay.”
The following afternoon, around six o’clock, Yu Kunian picked up Jiang Qiu. The Alpha’s hair had grown quite a bit; Yu Kunian was used to her short-haired look, and seeing her now felt a bit unfamiliar.
Jiang Qiu, who originally wanted to go find Wen Yan, was dragged to a bar by Yu Kunian. Even now, Yu Kunian hadn’t figured out how to tell Jiang Qiu that the Alpha who married Wen Yan was Cheng Lu.
Jiang Qiu said very little about what happened with Yu Sheng. Yu Kunian only learned that they really had dated before, but later Yu Sheng broke up with her, and they hadn’t been in contact for a long time. They only met again when Yu Sheng returned to Lihua City.
After that, when Yu Kunian went to New York, Yu Sheng approached Jiang Qiu again, and then… locked Jiang Qiu up.
Yu Kunian frowned. “Did you leave something out?”
Things couldn’t have happened that simply. Why would Yu Sheng lock Jiang Qiu up? It was very puzzling. Moreover, the fact that Jiang Qiu couldn’t escape also made Yu Kunian suspicious.
In the time she had been gone, what exactly had happened in Lihua City, and how had Yu Dai and Yang Jin not noticed anything?
But Jiang Qiu was drowning her sorrows in alcohol. She seemed determined not to go into detail, her emotions far too complex. After a long silence, she asked in confusion, “Do you think there’s something wrong with everyone in your family named ‘Yu’?”
Yu Kunian: “…”
There was no way to argue with that.
Logically, Yu Sheng had been raised by Yang Yu; it shouldn’t be like this.
Yu Kunian decided not to ask Jiang Qiu for specifics. However, she tactfully explained the situation with Wen Yan. As expected, she saw Jiang Qiu—first in shock, then slamming her glass onto the table—ready to rush off and find Cheng Lu.
How could an Alpha with a phobia of Omegas possibly take care of Wen Yan?
Jiang Qiu felt guilty toward Wen Yan. Even if she didn’t marry her, she wanted to help Wen Yan find a worthy Alpha. Yu Kunian couldn’t stop her and was forced to go along to confront Cheng Lu—though her role was to mediate.
Otherwise, Yu Kunian really didn’t know what would happen if Jiang Qiu and Cheng Lu started a fight.
