The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 92
She is Jealous
Song Wenzhi was promoted as Yu Kunian had anticipated. Xia Weichi, having a bit of a conscience, credited the success of the Nianzhi Alliance to Song Wenzhi. However, the prestige of CPP technology didn’t seem to be as high in the eyes of the Research Institute as Yu Kunian had expected.
The Omega no longer had to work as an assistant, but she was only promoted to the Director of the Pharmacology Department. Yu Kunian had originally hoped she would move up another level directly into the institute’s decision-making core. On second thought, relying solely on the cooperation of one new technology likely wasn’t enough to reach that height.
Song Wenzhi actually hadn’t harbored thoughts of a promotion. She had grown proficient in her role as an assistant, and the sudden shift in identity was something she couldn’t adapt to immediately. Though she knew this was Yu Kunian’s intent, the Omega still went to ask Xia Weichi if the transfer could be cancelled. In the midst of her busy schedule, Xia Weichi gave her a negative answer.
The formal transfer order had been issued, and everyone at the Research Institute began to address her by her new title.
Meanwhile, Yu Kunian was sitting in the office, asking somewhat gloomily, “Are you really, really not planning to move?”
Song Wenzhi replied, “Why should I move?”
Yu Kunian looked at the door that only separated her from Xia Weichi’s office, curled her lip, and said, “You’ve been promoted. Why stay in this old office? It’s not as spacious as the new one.”
Song Wenzhi was puzzled. “Isn’t the space about the same?”
The Alpha gave a faint snort. Without explaining, she withdrew her gaze from the door and asked back, “Zhizhi, there’s a new office. Why not move?”
Song Wenzhi said, “I’m used to this place.”
“Moving to a new place might bring new opportunities.”
Song Wenzhi kept her head down, looking at the documents in her hand, and asked, “What kind of opportunities could there be?”
Yu Kunian thought to herself: The opportunity to see Xia Weichi less often, of course.
But the Alpha couldn’t say that out loud. She was currently in a “probationary period” and couldn’t afford to be so petty. After all, Xia Weichi was one of Song Wenzhi’s few close friends. The Omega had stated clearly that she wouldn’t develop any relationship with Xia Weichi beyond friendship. Yu Kunian had no reason to be so guarded, nor could she stop Song Wenzhi from maintaining her social circle. However, that didn’t stop Yu Kunian from being hostile toward Xia Weichi.
Yes, she was jealous.
Because of the office layout, it was simply too easy for Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi to interact.
Yu Kunian sat across from Song Wenzhi. The Alpha frowned while fiddling with a gadget on the desk. She remained silent for a long time, unable to come up with an answer, and finally just said, “It’s hard to say. You’ll know once you move.”
Song Wenzhi didn’t look up. “It’s too much trouble.”
The current office location was convenient for communicating with other colleagues, and most of her work was done in conjunction with Xia Weichi. If she moved, communication would become inconvenient. Song Wenzhi felt there was no need to move her office to another building just because her title had changed; even if it was a private office, it clearly wasn’t practical.
Seeing she couldn’t persuade Song Wenzhi, Yu Kunian gave up. She absentmindedly reached out to flick a flower petal and remained silent for a long while.
The Omega seemed to notice something was wrong. She looked up at Yu Kunian. The Alpha was dazed for some reason. Song Wenzhi sighed softly, “Yu Kunian, give me a reasonable reason.”
Yu Kunian’s lips moved, but no sound came out.
A moment later, Xia Weichi pushed the door open and entered, saying casually, “Hmm… she probably just doesn’t want to see me.”
Yu Kunian wanted to nod, but she restrained herself.
Xia Weichi walked in with a smile. She glanced at Yu Kunian, then stood by the desk and handed the experimental data in her hand to Song Wenzhi. “Xiao Zhi, the research projects for this section will all be handled by you from now on.”
Song Wenzhi took it. She didn’t look at it immediately but scanned both Xia Weichi and Yu Kunian, saying, “You two…”
Yu Kunian ignored Xia Weichi’s existence entirely, waving her hand. “My mind is focused on you right now. I don’t care about anyone else, and I won’t bother with them.”
Xia Weichi shrugged. “Andrea has a problem with me; the whole Research Institute knows it.”
Song Wenzhi felt that the way they looked at each other with distaste every time they met was a headache. Finally, the Omega said, “At least I can’t move for the time being.”
The Omega medical operation she was handling with Xia Weichi was very important. Before it concluded, it was best for them to keep things as they were to facilitate discussions.
Yu Kunian, of course, wasn’t unreasonable. She understood that Song Wenzhi had her own thoughts and wouldn’t force her. “Alright, no need to move. I was just speaking casually.”
Song Wenzhi met her eyes. “Really?”
Yu Kunian didn’t speak. Song Wenzhi realized, “That was a lie.”
The Alpha stood up, avoiding her gaze. “Of course it’s true.”
“Yu Kunian, in two months at most, I will move.” Song Wenzhi compromised. she really couldn’t bear to see Yu Kunian’s dejected expression without softening.
Hearing this, Yu Kunian wanted to smile but held it back. The corners of her mouth, which she could barely keep down, made Xia Weichi feel somewhat speechless.
However, Xia Weichi didn’t feel any dissatisfaction regarding Song Wenzhi moving out. Since Song Wenzhi had been promoted, she should indeed have her own office.
“One more thing, Xiao Zhi.” Xia Weichi remembered something else. “Your birthday is coming up. The colleagues want to throw a party for you outside the city district. They asked me to get your opinion.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian instinctively pricked up her ears.
She had been thinking about Song Wenzhi’s birthday for the past couple of days. She wanted to give the Omega a surprise but had been fretting because she didn’t know if Song Wenzhi had other plans. She hadn’t expected it to be brought up today. She had originally considered that Song Wenzhi might not spend this birthday alone with her, but she hadn’t expected the colleagues from the institute to join the celebration as well.
Song Wenzhi was stunned for a moment. She had almost forgotten her birthday was coming up. “There’s no need to make such a big fuss, is there?”
Xia Weichi shook her head. “They want to give you a proper celebration, also as a way to congratulate you on your promotion. However, if you don’t want too many people, you can turn them down.”
It wasn’t that Song Wenzhi minded the crowd. Her colleagues at the institute got along well, and she had made many friends. The Omega was grateful and naturally wouldn’t refuse this gesture of celebration.
“Is it convenient to go back and forth? The party might go late into the night.”
“We can just have the party at my villa. It’s very suitable and no trouble at all. It’s fine to stay overnight there too.” Xia Weichi had already planned this; she had considered these factors from the start.
Given the arrangements, Song Wenzhi didn’t refuse again.
Xia Weichi finished what she had to say and prepared to leave. Before heading out, she mentioned she would send the villa’s address to Song Wenzhi.
The one who received the address, however, was Yu Kunian. The Alpha stared at the chat window with Xia Weichi on her phone, then glared at the address for a long time before receiving a new message from Xia Weichi:
[Oh, sorry, sent it to the wrong person.]
Despite saying that, Xia Weichi had no intention of withdrawing the message. It was unclear whether she had done it on purpose or by accident.
However, having the address was exactly what Yu Kunian wanted.
In the afternoon, Song Wenzhi had to spend her time in the pharmaceutical lab. Yu Kunian had no status that allowed her to join, so she simply left the Research Institute. She drove to Cheng Lu’s company, only to learn that the other party hadn’t come to work for the past few days. Even Cheng Lu’s private Beta secretary didn’t know the reason.
Yu Kunian dialed the number, but several consecutive calls went unanswered, which left the Alpha completely bewildered. Cheng Lu loved work more than anything; for her not to even go to the company for this long—only occasionally replying to emails—was truly strange.
Just as she returned to her car, intending to head to Cheng Lu’s house to check on her, the latest call was finally picked up by the other side. Before Yu Kunian could speak, she heard Cheng Lu’s voice, hoarse: “What is it?”
Yu Kunian was stunned for a moment. “What happened to you?”
Cheng Lu said in a poor mood, “Thanks to you, and that crow-mouthed Xia woman, I’m experiencing a forced, premature rut for the first time in my life. It’s agonizing.”
Yu Kunian was extremely surprised by this. She hadn’t expected her pheromones to actually affect Cheng Lu’s rut, as this had never happened before.
“That’s not right. It’s been almost a month. Don’t tell me your rut has lasted for a whole month.”
Cheng Lu gave a cold snort. “I’ve gone through two ruts this month. Yu Kunian, your pheromones are truly toxic.”
Yu Kunian fell silent.
Did her pheromones really have that much power?
She didn’t know. Anyway, no Alpha had ever come looking for her during her own rut, except for Yu Dai. But Yu Dai had always been fine; even after enduring her pheromone attacks, she had never seemed to be affected.
“This month has been a month of pure bad luck for me,” Cheng Lu said, taking a sip of water. She spoke with a sense of helplessness, “I’ve never lived through days so beyond my own control.”
Yu Kunian didn’t think much of it. “It’s just a rut. Is it worth such a lament?”
Cheng Lu said, “If only it were just a rut.”
Yu Kunian frowned. “What else did you encounter then? Speaking of which, you haven’t been to the company for nearly a month. Two ruts shouldn’t have delayed you for that long.”
There was a silence on Cheng Lu’s end for a while. “Yu Kunian, I have something to tell you.”
“Say it.” Hearing Cheng Lu’s serious tone, Yu Kunian also turned serious.
Cheng Lu pondered for a long time. She seemed exceptionally conflicted and irritable, but finally, she said, “I got married.”
Yu Kunian: “…?”
Married?
Who? Cheng Lu got married?
For a moment, Yu Kunian felt as if she were hallucinating.
Ever since coming to New York, Yu Kunian had never seen Cheng Lu date anyone. Forget a girlfriend; there wasn’t even someone she liked. Telling her now that Cheng Lu was married—the credibility of this news was not high.
Yu Kunian twitched the corner of her mouth. “Cheng Lu, this joke is a bit cold.”
Cheng Lu said, “I wish it were just a joke, but I’ve already registered the marriage.”
Yu Kunian felt like she was hearing the most impossible truth of her life.
Unable to find her voice for a long while, Yu Kunian’s level of shock at this matter surpassed all emotions she had ever felt. “Wait… how did you suddenly get married? In just this one month, you even had two ruts—you found time to get married?”
“I have you to thank for that, Yu Kunian.” Cheng Lu raised her voice irritably. “The premature rut caused me to fall into a trap. I, an Alpha, was schemed against by an Omega! Do you know how furious I am? I actually lost my reason because of the pheromones of the Omega I hate the most. I’ve always said Omegas are nothing good—they’re all devious and…”
Yu Kunian even forgot to comfort Cheng Lu. From her belly full of doubts, she picked out the question she wanted to ask the most: “So, the person you married… is also an Omega?”
