The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 83
“Is asking me for help really that difficult for you?”
Song Wenzhi’s hands were still cold. She lowered her head, steadying her nerves before speaking again: “President Yu, thank you for your pheromones.”
The people at the medical station were not kind souls; today, seeing that she was an Omega, they had been particularly malicious. Song Wenzhi had no other choice but to call Yu Kunian. The Omega needed those people to know that, aside from Xia Weichi, there was another Alpha by her side.
“They don’t look like good people, Zhizhi,” Yu Kunian said, not pressing further.
Song Wenzhi replied simply, “I know.”
“You know?” This clearly surprised Yu Kunian, leading to a sense of confusion. “Then how does Xia Weichi dare to let you come here alone? Those people are all Alphas. What if an accident had happened just now?”
Song Wenzhi looked up, meeting Yu Kunian’s gaze. “Weichi has other things to do. This is a Research Institute project; there won’t be any accidents.”
Yu Kunian frowned. “If it were truly a hundred percent safe, you wouldn’t have called me.”
Song Wenzhi’s eyes flickered away after that statement, because Yu Kunian was right.
Recalling the situation inside the medical station, the Alpha’s expression darkened. “How could Xia Weichi let you handle this alone? How does she dare… she is so irresponsible.”
Since she knew early on that there was something wrong with the people at the medical station, to let Song Wenzhi—a lone Omega—go there without any protection meant Xia Weichi wasn’t even qualified as a friend. Before she arrived, the unfriendly Alpha pheromones were already dangerous; if Song Wenzhi hadn’t had help, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
“The Institute has a lot of work; Weichi is overwhelmed,” Song Wenzhi explained, her tension finally beginning to subside.
Yu Kunian didn’t care how busy Xia Weichi was. To her, this situation proved that Xia Weichi hadn’t considered things thoroughly, and her prejudice against Xia Weichi grew. “You don’t need to make excuses for her; this is her fault. Since she’s busy, call me next time you come here. If those Alphas dare to cross the line, I will make them pay.”
“President Yu, that’s not necessary,” Song Wenzhi shook her head. “I can’t discuss the Institute’s business with you. I’ll try to have Weichi accompany me in the future. I won’t trouble you again.”
Yu Kunian choked up. Her breath trembled, but she tried to keep her voice steady. “Zhizhi, is asking me for help really that difficult for you?”
She wished Song Wenzhi would need to “trouble” her every single day. At least then, she would still be useful to Song Wenzhi—she would still be needed.
Song Wenzhi didn’t answer. She lowered her eyes, her grip tightening on her water bottle. The Omega was more dependent on the Alpha’s pheromones than she had anticipated. Even after several months, feeling that familiar minty scent again brought a surge of unbearable longing to her heart.
When facing those people at the medical station, the first person Song Wenzhi thought of was Yu Kunian.
If Yu Kunian came, she would be at peace. If Yu Kunian’s pheromones stained her coat, she would lean in to sniff them until her nose was filled with the scent of mint; only then would she be satisfied.
Song Wenzhi couldn’t resist it, and in her heart, she didn’t want to.
Faced with Yu Kunian’s lingering gaze, Song Wenzhi finally spoke after a long silence. However, she still didn’t answer the question, asking instead: “President Yu, why did you come to New York?”
Yu Kunian said, “Because you are here, I had to come.”
Coming to New York was because of Song Wenzhi—to apologize, to make amends. As long as she could do something for her, the Alpha felt useful. Yu Kunian didn’t want to talk about interests or profits anymore. Song Wenzhi was her everything; no profit could ever compare to the Omega.
Time, money, and no matter how much effort it took, Yu Kunian didn’t find it excessive. Song Wenzhi remained her exception. The Alpha was willing to offer everything she had to Song Wenzhi, as long as the Omega wanted it.
Song Wenzhi looked into Yu Kunian’s amber eyes. Deep within them was a sincerity she couldn’t fully decipher, but at this moment, the Omega felt that Yu Kunian was serious and wasn’t lying to her.
Retracting her gaze, Song Wenzhi whispered, “I’m a little hungry, Yu Kunian.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian’s expression turned to joy, even though the Omega hadn’t directly answered her previous words. “What do you want to eat? I’ll take you.”
The car was parked nearby. Yu Kunian stood up, pointed the way, and led Song Wenzhi over. Since the Omega didn’t have anything specific in mind, Yu Kunian drove to a nearby restaurant and ordered for her, hesitating whether she should wait in the car like last time.
As if knowing what she was thinking, Song Wenzhi asked, “Aren’t you hungry?”
Yu Kunian nodded. “A little.”
“Then let’s eat together.”
Hearing those words, Yu Kunian felt as though she had been struck by a bolt of divine luck. She curled her lips into a smile and replied, “Okay.”
With Song Wenzhi’s phone number now saved in her phone, the Alpha was instantly drowned in the joy of their softening relationship. Song Wenzhi was oblivious to this; she never expected that a single meal and a phone number could make Yu Kunian look so happy she seemed drunk without a drop of alcohol.
As Yu Kunian sat opposite Song Wenzhi, she felt a bit dazed. Before this, she never thought that eating a meal with the Omega would be something she would cherish and look forward to so much. Because the person across from her was Song Wenzhi, it was precious.
The fact that Song Wenzhi could accept her kindness meant the Omega was willing to let her repair their relationship—this was the best news Yu Kunian had received since arriving in New York.
The Alpha smiled until her cheeks felt a bit sore, yet her lips remained turned up. She simply couldn’t help but smile while looking at Song Wenzhi. Outside the restaurant, the snow fell heavily, quickly covering the footprints on the ground, as if resetting everything for a new beginning.
Yu Kunian thought she had never been this happy. In all those years in Lihua City, even when she saved her company from the brink of collapse, she hadn’t felt like this. She felt her heart completely filled with pleasure; every minute from now on was brimming with hope. This Omega made her understand the meaning of love and the feeling of longing.
The Alpha’s emotions were entirely tethered to Song Wenzhi. Song Wenzhi was her one and only; no one could replace her, and Yu Kunian only had eyes for her. Even just watching Song Wenzhi eat made her feel content.
Yu Kunian didn’t eat much herself; she spent most of the time putting food on Song Wenzhi’s plate. She still remembered what the Omega liked, but since this was a local restaurant, there was no chance for her to have domestic cuisine. Since arriving in New York, the Alpha had gotten used to cooking for herself, and her skills had improved. While not a master chef, her cooking was decent, though she hadn’t had the chance to let the Omega taste it yet.
When the meal ended and they stepped outside, they were hit by gusts of freezing wind. Their cheeks stung instantly, and the hand Yu Kunian used to hold the umbrella quickly grew cold. As they shared the umbrella, Song Wenzhi moved a bit closer to her, making the Alpha feel warm inside despite the chill.
Back in the car, Yu Kunian asked, “Shall I take you home?”
Song Wenzhi gave an “Mm” and buckled her seatbelt.
The heater in the car was running high. Song Wenzhi took off her scarf and tidied her messy hair. From the corner of her eye, Yu Kunian’s gaze fell on the scarf. She remembered it clearly—it was the one Xia Weichi had put on Song Wenzhi before.
She didn’t know if it was a gift from Xia Weichi, but she found it an eyesore.
Currently, Song Wenzhi bore no traces of her. Even the shoes she had bought for the Omega last time were never seen again. Yu Kunian had been trying to suppress the urge to buy gifts for Song Wenzhi, knowing the Omega wouldn’t accept them, regardless of the price.
However, seeing Song Wenzhi trying to tie her hair back without a tie, Yu Kunian stopped at a red light, found a hair tie, and handed it to her.
The Alpha wanted Song Wenzhi to wear something she gave her, even if it was just a hair tie. She wanted to give more—to give her the best things in the world—but now was not the time.
The car stopped at the bottom of Song Wenzhi’s building. Yu Kunian got out as well, handed the umbrella to the Omega, and said softly, “See you tomorrow, Zhizhi.”
Song Wenzhi nodded. “Drive safely.”
Yu Kunian’s smile widened. She watched Song Wenzhi’s retreating back, unable to stop smiling. The tip of the Alpha’s nose was red from the cold, and she didn’t even notice the snow on her hair turning to frost.
It wasn’t until she was about to get back into the car that Xia Weichi walked past her with a frown, causing Yu Kunian’s smile to fade.
Xia Weichi was surprised and repulsed by the fact that Yu Kunian knew which building Song Wenzhi lived in. She didn’t speak, but her expression was exceptionally grim. Yu Kunian didn’t greet her either; the two Alphas engaged in a silent clash, neither liking the sight of the other.
Waiting until Yu Kunian drove away, Xia Weichi turned and entered the building. She didn’t go to her own apartment but instead knocked on Song Wenzhi’s door.
Song Wenzhi had just taken off her coat. She was surprised to find Xia Weichi at the door. “Are you done with your business so quickly?”
Xia Weichi entered, her expression softening slightly. “It’s handled.” She hesitated for a moment before continuing, “I just saw Yu Kunian downstairs.”
Song Wenzhi paused while pouring water, remaining silent for a moment before saying, “She dropped me off.”
“Didn’t the agreement you signed exclude your detailed address?” Xia Weichi asked, puzzled. “How does she know which building you live in?”
Song Wenzhi didn’t know how to explain; Xia Weichi didn’t know yet that Yu Kunian had spent a night at her place.
However, before Song Wenzhi could find the words, Xia Weichi spotted the open medical kit in the living room. Some vials had been used—clearly used during the outing today.
Xia Weichi carefully checked the positions of the empty vials to confirm their purpose.
In the next moment, Xia Weichi’s expression turned sharp. Forgetting her previous question, she asked, “Xiao Zhi, did you go to the medical station today?”
