The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 77
Her Beloved Omega Comforting Another Alpha
Early the next morning, the rain had stopped. Yu Kunian arrived early and waited outside the research institute. When Song Wenzhi and Xia Wei arrived late, the Alpha was leaning against the landmark building at the entrance. Seeing Song Wenzhi approach, she hurried to stand up straight.
Seeing Yu Kunian triggered an almost instinctive furrowing of Xia Wei’s brow. She took Song Wenzhi by the wrist, led her to the other side, and then stopped in front of Yu Kunian, speaking up:
“President Yu, to what do we owe the honor of your presence? Is something the matter?”
Yu Kunian looked toward Song Wenzhi and said, “I’m looking for Zhizhi.”
Before Song Wenzhi could speak, Xia Wei raised her hand to block her line of sight, replying with a fake smile, “If there’s nothing, then you’re just a loiterer. Please leave immediately. The institute is lacking a watchdog, which is why just anyone can hang around here. Tomorrow, I’ll buy a dog specifically to bite loiterers, so President Yu doesn’t spend all her free time squatting at the institute gate.”
Yu Kunian looked at Xia Wei, her expression unchanging and her gaze indifferent. “Director Xia, I am standing on the roadside waiting for someone. Even if I weren’t, simply standing here for however long isn’t against the law.”
“It’s not illegal,” Xia Wei’s gaze turned fierce, her usual gentleness replaced by a sharp, stern tone. “However, if I buy a dog and it accidentally bites you, it can only be considered an accident.”
Had Song Wenzhi not been there, Xia Wei likely would have released her oppressive pheromones to engage in a “clash of swords” with Yu Kunian. This Yu Kunian was shamelessly and repeatedly seeking out Song Wenzhi, hanging around the entrance as if she had nothing better to do. Even while trying to maintain her refined upbringing, Xia Wei wanted to call her a “lunatic.”
“Oh, go ahead and buy one then. I doubt you can find one so quickly.” Yu Kunian didn’t care about Xia Wei’s words; she was immune to such talk. It always went in one ear and out the other. She might retort on a whim, but it didn’t mean she actually enjoyed dealing with Xia Wei.
Instead, Xia Wei was ignited by this indifferent attitude. Seeing that an argument was about to break out, Song Wenzhi quickly held her back, stroking her back to soothe her. “Weiwei, don’t be angry. Please, calm down.”
After speaking, Song Wenzhi glanced at Yu Kunian before continuing her explanation to Xia Wei: “I’m the one who asked her to come.”
Hearing this, Xia Wei’s eyes widened as she looked at Song Wenzhi. “How could you ask her to come? Xiao Zhi, she isn’t a good Alpha—you know that, don’t you? And yet you called her… How could you start contacting her again? Someone like her should be someone you never see again.”
“Weiwei, I’ll explain it to you later.” Song Wenzhi had actually regretted it the moment she returned home yesterday, but since she had already promised, she couldn’t go back on her word.
Standing nearby, Yu Kunian watched Song Wenzhi speak so gently to Xia Wei. The Omega’s hand hadn’t let go of Xia Wei’s arm even now. The Alpha lowered her eyes and pursed her lips. Clearly, Xia Wei had provoked her first, yet it had turned into an opportunity for Song Wenzhi to be intimate with Xia Wei. The Alpha felt a deep sense of imbalance in her heart, but she couldn’t voice this frustration; she could only accept it.
Her beloved Omega was comforting another Alpha, paying no attention to her at all.
The privilege of being the only one she cared for had now become an unreachable dream. Yu Kunian grew more depressed, her lips tightening, and her heart filling with a touch of irritability. Nothing about Xia Wei looked right to her.
Before the divorce, Song Wenzhi would never have let her feel neglected. Even if it happened, the Alpha would have naturally expressed her dissatisfaction, and the Omega would surely have comforted and made it up to her. It wasn’t like now, where she could only seethe in silence because she no longer had the right to complain.
Yu Kunian’s regret always stemmed from these small details.
Her exclusive Omega was no longer hers. Now, other Alphas could get close—even be more intimate with the Omega than she was—while she had become the person who could only watch from the side, her emotions no longer warranting any special attention.
This drop in status was no different from falling from the clouds to the bottom of the ocean.
“President Yu,” Song Wenzhi looked at her after finishing her talk with Xia Wei, “Come inside to sign the agreement.”
Yu Kunian snapped back to reality. Song Wenzhi had already turned and walked into the institute with Xia Wei. She followed behind belatedly, her expression darkening as she watched the two of them walking side-by-side.
Song Wenzhi’s office was right next to Xia Wei’s, separated only by a door. Yu Kunian walked in. The Omega’s desk was very tidy, and the two copies of the agreement were placed in the topmost folder.
Xia Wei didn’t return to her own office. She snatched the agreement from Song Wenzhi’s hand. Learning that Yu Kunian was going to be Song Wenzhi’s driver, she gave a cold, mocking laugh. “It seems President Yu really is very idle, even willing to stoop so low as to be a driver. I wonder if it’s because you don’t want to be busy in New York, or because you lack the ability, and can only do odd jobs like driving here.”
“I don’t need Director Xia’s concern. My business is none of your concern.” Yu Kunian glanced at her. Xia Wei’s sarcasm didn’t have much sting; her emotions remained stable. “Unless Director Xia is also very idle.”
Xia Wei glared at her. “I can’t be bothered with your business. It’s just that seeing President Yu neglecting her duties in New York, I should pray to the heavens that you return to Lihua City to be put to good use sooner, so you stop being a nuisance here. Neither Xiao Zhi nor I welcome you; I truly hope President Yu understands that.”
If it weren’t for the fact that she was busy yesterday and her car was being repaired, she would have made time to drop off Song Wenzhi, and Yu Kunian wouldn’t have had the chance. Xia Wei felt she was being polite enough by only offering a few cold words; her upbringing was simply too good, otherwise, she would have used any means necessary—no matter how underhanded—to drive Yu Kunian away.
Listening to the two Alphas trade barbs, Song Wenzhi sighed helplessly. She ushered Xia Wei back to her own office before handing the agreement to Yu Kunian along with a pen. “Take a look at it first.”
The contents of the agreement were very detailed, including the daily “working” hours and the number of pick-ups. Song Wenzhi had no intention of letting Yu Kunian know where she lived, so the address listed in the agreement was just an intersection.
The Omega also required Yu Kunian not to ask about private matters during her time as a driver, including but not limited to the research institute and her daily life. Song Wenzhi wanted Yu Kunian to be a quiet, professional driver. Yu Kunian could see that the Omega was still wary of her getting close; she wouldn’t even give her a chance to understand her life.
“If you have any other issues, you can bring them up,” Song Wenzhi said, sitting opposite her.
Yu Kunian said, “None.”
With that, she quickly signed her name. Even if the agreement were unfair, she would have signed it without hesitation. She could follow any requirement Song Wenzhi had, as long as Song Wenzhi didn’t take back her word.
After Song Wenzhi also signed her name, Yu Kunian put her copy of the agreement in her pocket but didn’t intend to leave.
The Omega glanced at her. “President Yu, I won’t see you out.”
The dismissal was obvious, but Yu Kunian didn’t even move. Instead, she asked, “Have you had breakfast?”
Song Wenzhi paused before saying, “Weiwei and I already ate.”
Xia Wei again. A flash of gloom passed through Yu Kunian’s eyes. Her breathing deepened as she continued, “Where will you go for lunch? Do you need me to drive you? There aren’t many restaurants nearby; it’s good to change tastes once in a while.”
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips paused. She lowered her gaze. “That is not within the driver’s scope of duty.”
Yu Kunian was choked up. The requirements in the agreement blocked almost everything she wanted to say. For a moment, she didn’t know what else to say. The Alpha stood up; the Omega before her was already deliberately ignoring her and starting her work. Yu Kunian curled her lip and replied, “Fine, then I—”
“Safe travels, President Yu.” Xia Wei suddenly pushed open the door and leaned against the frame, her words extremely clear. Although her lips were curved, there was no trace of a smile in her eyes; her gaze was cold and piercing as frost.
Yu Kunian frowned, but seeing Song Wenzhi’s tacit approval, she truly had no reason to stay. However, she ignored Xia Wei and spoke to Song Wenzhi before leaving: “Zhizhi, you can contact me for anything. I’m on call twenty-four hours a day.”
Once the Alpha turned to leave, Song Wenzhi finally looked up. The document she had been holding was just for show; she hadn’t processed a single word. She stared at Yu Kunian’s retreating back, lost in thought.
Xia Wei waved a hand in front of her eyes, clearly dissatisfied with Yu Kunian taking the driver position. “Xiao Zhi, we agreed before to stay away from her.”
Song Wenzhi snapped out of it, her fingers curling slightly. “It was an accident.”
“You clearly still want to rekindle the relationship,” Xia Wei said, hitting the nail on the head. “But Xiao Zhi, have you forgotten how she lied to you? She was just playing with you. Her coming here now is just for the sake of novelty. Do you really want to be abandoned a second time?”
Xia Wei was rarely so caustic, but faced with Song Wenzhi’s soft-heartedness, she had to speak this way. If she remained tactful now, Song Wenzhi really would be deceived by Yu Kunian again.
“I don’t,” Song Wenzhi whispered back.
Xia Wei was right, which was why she was constantly hesitating. Because she still loved that Alpha but was still in pain, she had become a walking contradiction. She wanted to push Yu Kunian away completely, yet she still craved her closeness… If Yu Kunian hadn’t chased her to New York, the Omega would have succeeded. But Yu Kunian’s unexpected arrival had disrupted all her plans.
“Xiao Zhi, if you can’t bring yourself to be cruel, then let me do it.” Xia Wei took a few steps closer to Song Wenzhi. “I’ll make it so she can never find you again, and never bothers you again.”
She had never done anything evil in her life, but if it was for Song Wenzhi’s sake, she could do it.
When Song Wenzhi and Yu Kunian first divorced and her pheromones were in disorder, Xia Wei had even thought about kidnapping Yu Kunian. She would develop a drug to keep the Alpha in a state of clouded consciousness, continuously releasing pheromones for Song Wenzhi to use.
Xia Wei was an Alpha who always maintained proper decorum outwardly, but she was willing to do anything for Song Wenzhi, no matter how crazy or how malicious.
Song Wenzhi met her gaze and quickly replied, “Half a month, Weiwei. I will end this relationship myself. Don’t worry.”
