The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 73
“I was wrong… I miss you so much.”
Song Wenzhi—the name that made Yu Kunian choke back sobs and want to repeat a thousand times over—was finally called out today.
From Yu Kunian’s perspective, Song Wenzhi was smiling. It was a smile she hadn’t seen in far too long, a face she had yearned for day and night, yet now it felt piercingly bright. It was because that smile was for Xia Weichi; Yu Kunian watched like a bystander as the Omega’s smile was given to another Alpha.
Yu Kunian’s fingertips trembled. She thought, No… Song Wenzhi, you can’t.
But she had no standing, and even less right to say those words.
Yu Kunian could only stop in front of Song Wenzhi. Her actions were impulsive, reckless, driven by instinct—momentary flashes of intent. After seeing the look of astonishment on Song Wenzhi’s face, her vision grew blurred.
“Yu Kunian, you actually followed her here?” Xia Weichi spoke first, stepping forward to block Song Wenzhi. “You and Wenzhi are no longer related. If you come any closer, don’t blame me for being impolite.”
Song Wenzhi did not refute her; she agreed with Xia Weichi’s words. The scarf around the Omega’s neck rendered Yu Kunian speechless. In that moment, the Alpha had countless things she wanted to say to Song Wenzhi, but none of them came out.
Yu Kunian looked at Song Wenzhi’s face—the person she thought of day and night, whom she could never see enough of.
Standing face-to-face with Song Wenzhi, Yu Kunian realized once again that her world would be unimaginable without her.
“Zhizhi.” Yu Kunian’s gaze bypassed Xia Weichi, looking at the Omega who was not looking back at her.
The Alpha’s tears fell immediately after she spoke. A single tear slid down her cheek, her voice thick with a sob. Her nose stung, her brow furrowed; she no longer looked like the high-and-mighty CEO Yu from Lihua City.
Song Wenzhi did not respond to her, saying only to Xia Weichi, “Let’s go.”
The Omega’s expression was cold, as if she hadn’t heard a word Yu Kunian said—as if she hadn’t even seen the Alpha at all. She intended to walk right past her. As the faint scent of the Omega brushed past Yu Kunian on the wind, the ignored Alpha lost her grip on logic. She instinctively reached out, cautiously catching the corner of Song Wenzhi’s coat.
Song Wenzhi stopped. Though she tilted her head slightly, she still didn’t look at her.
Yu Kunian’s grip was light; if Song Wenzhi wanted to break free, it would be easy. But the Alpha didn’t realize this; she only lowered her eyes, bowing her head beside Song Wenzhi. Her mouth was full of bitterness, and her voice became instantly raspy.
“I was wrong, Zhizhi.”
The long-overdue apology finally escaped her lips. Yu Kunian was consumed by guilt. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry… Zhizhi, I know I was wrong. I miss you so much.”
She missed Song Wenzhi to the point of madness. So, so much.
She knew she was wrong—horribly, completely wrong. This apology should have been said to Song Wenzhi much earlier.
Yu Kunian didn’t even dare to look at the Omega. Her hands shook, her lips trembled, and her breath carried an uncontrollable whimper. The Alpha knew she had no right to beg for Song Wenzhi’s forgiveness.
But if Song Wenzhi allowed it, she was willing to take responsibility for her mistakes. Just being able to see Song Wenzhi was enough.
However, silence swallowed her words. Upon hearing what Yu Kunian said, Song Wenzhi didn’t even move. Out of the Alpha’s sight, the Omega lowered her eyes, her reddened eyelids sinking into the dimming twilight.
Song Wenzhi frowned, deliberately suppressing her erratic breathing. She feigned indifference and said:
“CEO Yu, you overstate things.”
Yu Kunian froze. The title “CEO Yu” was far more devastating to the Alpha than the scarf had been. Such a strange, distant form of address was more piercing than when they had first met. Yu Kunian stood frozen on the spot, her blood seemingly congealing; the cold wind at that moment was bone-chilling.
It felt as though it had pierced through her heart.
Pain surged through her organs, and the Alpha’s tears turned to frost, stinging her eyes.
Yu Kunian found it difficult even to speak. “Zhizhi, you—”
Before she could finish, Song Wenzhi pushed away the hand clutching her coat and moved half a step to the side before adding: “CEO Yu, I have nothing to do with you anymore, and I cannot accept your apology.”
“No…” Yu Kunian shook her head in disbelief. “No, Zhizhi, I owe this to you. You deserve this apology. At any time, you deserve it.”
Yu Kunian looked at Song Wenzhi. The Omega’s expression held a coldness she had never seen before. Those eyes, which used to always watch her, now refused to give her even a glance. The Alpha opened her mouth, wanting to say more, but hesitated; perhaps some things weren’t suitable to be said right now.
“CEO Yu, there is nothing between us anymore.”
Song Wenzhi’s voice rose slightly. She finally turned to look at Yu Kunian, her face unchanging, but the fingertips hidden in her sleeves dug sharply into her palms. As if she couldn’t feel the pain, she stared at Yu Kunian, her emotions a chaotic mess.
For a brief moment, Song Wenzhi felt joy because of Yu Kunian’s appearance.
But more than that, there was panic. Fear.
She didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes. She had finally decided to start a life in New York without Yu Kunian, and yet, at this moment, Yu Kunian appeared again. The Alpha had come to disturb her world once more.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know what Yu Kunian wanted to do, and she didn’t want to know. She only wanted to stay away from her. Even though she loved her, Song Wenzhi could only retreat—one step, then another.
What Yu Kunian brought her was pain, and she didn’t want to experience it again. Song Wenzhi couldn’t lie to herself and continue to sink, because it hurt—it hurt more than when her gland went out of control. It was a heart-piercing pain that she couldn’t endure even if she bit her tongue.
The Omega didn’t have the courage to repeat the past.
Yu Kunian said with a trembling voice, “Zhizhi, I know you must be very repelled by my appearance right now, but I don’t mean anything else. I just wanted to tell you—”
“I don’t want to hear it.” Song Wenzhi interrupted her, her tone suddenly becoming sharp. “CEO Yu, I have the right to refuse you.”
These were words Yu Kunian herself had once said, leaving her unable to argue.
The Omega turned back and said to Xia Weichi, “Let’s go.”
The sight of the two walking away was still eyesore. Yu Kunian stood there, her feet feeling as heavy as lead. She couldn’t move to chase them because Song Wenzhi seemed to loathe her. Realizing this truth, Yu Kunian burst into tears in an instant. The blurred silhouette of the Omega made her breathing turn ragged.
Yu Kunian raised her hand to wipe away her tears, but the moisture at the corners of her eyes wouldn’t go away. The Alpha slowly lowered her head against a lamp post and covered her face, weeping. She didn’t care about looking pathetic; she only felt defeated, powerless, and lost.
With Song Wenzhi rejecting her so strongly, she didn’t know what to do.
The streetlamp stretched her shadow long. Yu Kunian crouched down, her weeping silent. But the night was not kind; a sudden rain began to drench her, causing strands of hair to stick to her cheeks. The Alpha eventually stood up and tilted her head back.
Tears mixed with the rain. Yu Kunian closed her eyes and whispered softly, “Zhizhi…”
But no one would respond to her anymore.
Yu Kunian hadn’t brought an umbrella, so she had to take shelter under the eaves of a shop. She leaned against the wall, dazed, her body numb to the cold wind. Water dripped from the hem of her coat, and a wet patch had already formed on the ground by her feet. Yu Kunian kept her eyes down, her haggard gaze hidden. In her trance, she heard someone call her name again.
Lifting her eyelids, she saw Xia Weichi standing before her with a look of displeasure.
“CEO Yu—no, I can’t call you that anymore.” Xia Weichi’s voice was flat, but her expression was stern. “Yu Kunian, you couldn’t survive in Lihua City, so you came to New York? If that’s the case, I advise you not to come near this street.”
Yu Kunian didn’t reply. She only looked down at the other umbrella in Xia Weichi’s hand, her eyelashes trembling.
“I’ve never seen such a thick-skinned Alpha. You hurt Wenzhi, and yet you dare show your face in front of us?” Xia Weichi didn’t notice Yu Kunian’s state; she wanted to scream at her, but she held back. “Yu Kunian, let me tell you, Wenzhi is my Omega now. Don’t think about interfering. Wenzhi hates you; she wishes you’d never appear again. Of course, if you could get out of New York entirely, that would be best.”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian finally looked at Xia Weichi. “Impossible. Zhizhi wouldn’t be with you.”
Xia Weichi sneered, her voice firm: “Wenzhi is my Omega.”
With that, Xia Weichi casually tossed the other umbrella to Yu Kunian. “When we get married, we’ll send you an invitation.”
“Did Zhizhi ask you to give this to me?” Yu Kunian gripped the umbrella, ignoring Xia Weichi’s other words.
Xia Weichi’s expression didn’t change as she gave an evasive answer: “Wenzhi asked me to tell you something: Yu Kunian, she will never accept your apology.”
Having said her piece, Xia Weichi turned and left. Yu Kunian stood there stroking the umbrella, unable to tell if Xia Weichi’s words were true or false.
If they were true, at least it meant Song Wenzhi still cared. At least she hadn’t completely let go.
Yu Kunian pondered for a long while, staring silently down the empty road until the night wind swept over her. The rain-soaked hair made her gland feel uncomfortable, and only then did the Alpha snap out of it and open the umbrella.
On the way back, Yu Kunian’s mind was filled with Song Wenzhi. She raised her hand to grasp the necklace around her neck; the ring hidden beneath her collar was warmed by her skin, though her fingertips were icy.
She wouldn’t leave New York, and she wouldn’t give up on repairing this relationship. Before coming to New York, Yu Kunian had already prepared herself for a long period of atonement. Regardless of Song Wenzhi’s attitude—even if she was met with harsh words—she could not leave.
Back at home, Yu Kunian placed the umbrella in the most conspicuous spot. Song Wenzhi still cared about her, or at least cared about her safety; this gave Yu Kunian a sliver of hope. The Omega hadn’t completely cast her aside. The Alpha’s expression softened as she stared at the umbrella for a long time.
It wasn’t until she sneezed that Yu Kunian realized how cold she was. She stood up, took off her coat, and dialed Cheng Lu’s number.
Cheng Lu answered quickly. “What is it? I’m busy.”
Yu Kunian asked, “What was that method you mentioned before—the one that could get the Research Institute to notice the Alliance quickly?”
