The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 70
I Still Love Her, At Least For Now
I still love her, at least for now.
Tonight is New Year’s Eve, and the night in New York is exceptionally lively.
Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi are on a cruise ship, intending to spend their first New Year’s Eve here together since arriving.
The Omega stands on the deck. The night wind is somewhat strong, blowing her hair into a mess. After several fruitless attempts to tidy it, she simply gives up and stares fixedly at the river surface. She doesn’t look particularly happy; she seems to have something on her mind.
Xia Weichi brings a shawl and drapes it over her, standing by the Omega’s side. Following Song Wenzhi’s gaze, she asks softly, “Wenzhi, what are you thinking about?”
Song Wenzhi snaps back to reality. Her eyelashes tremble slightly, and after a moment, she lowers her eyes and says, “Nothing.”
It’s just that she always thinks of Yu Kunian, involuntarily.
As if knowing what was in her heart, Xia Weichi withdraws her gaze and looks at Song Wenzhi’s profile, saying warmly, “Wenzhi, everything will pass. Here, you will meet more people, and you will have enough time to forget someone.”
Song Wenzhi gathers the shawl being whipped by the wind. Her eyes fall on the ripples of the river. The night is dark, and the light on the deck isn’t bright enough for the Omega to see her own reflection in the water, yet she continues to stare intensely. She remains silent for a long time.
The night wind suddenly grows stronger, sweeping over with a damp chill. The stray hairs on Song Wenzhi’s forehead rise, and a few strands fall across her thick lashes, making her blink instinctively. She reaches up to brush the hair from her cheek and tucks it behind her ear before speaking again:
“Weichi, I never thought about forgetting Yu Kunian.”
Song Wenzhi was able to pull herself away with determination, which was already her greatest effort. Her departure was due to her disappointment in Yu Kunian, yet she still couldn’t stop herself from liking that Alpha. Song Wenzhi simply didn’t want to continue accumulating more disappointment by Yu Kunian’s side. She wanted the Yu Kunian in her memory to remain—just as it was before they met again—observed from a distance, a subject of fantasy.
Her emotions wouldn’t dissipate so quickly; she even found herself constantly remembering Yu Kunian’s good points while deliberately suppressing the bad ones. In her memory, Yu Kunian was still the Alpha she adored. At most, she might stop loving her, but she would certainly never forget.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know how much time she would need to give up this affection. She would try, but—
“I still love her, at least for now.”
Song Wenzhi turns to look at Xia Weichi beside her. Her voice is very light, as if it might scatter with the wind, but these words fall clearly into Xia Weichi’s ears, deafeningly loud.
Xia Weichi’s fingers curl into her palm. Her eyes meet Song Wenzhi’s for a fleeting second before she looks away. The Alpha’s breathing is unsteady, feeling a sense of bitterness because of Song Wenzhi’s words. She forces a slight tug at the corners of her mouth and looks toward the distance; though she is smiling, it is an awkward, strained expression.
The Alpha says, “I will wait, Wenzhi.” Waiting for an uncertain duration, for an uncertain possibility.
She could afford to wait no matter how long, even until the seas ran dry and the rocks crumbled.
She had already waited for so many years; Xia Weichi didn’t mind waiting a bit longer. In New York, the two of them were companions. One day, Song Wenzhi would let go of Yu Kunian and forget her. That Alpha from Lihua City would disappear from their world, and then, Xia Weichi would be the only person by Song Wenzhi’s side.
If Song Wenzhi couldn’t accept her pheromones, she could simply never release them.
As long as Song Wenzhi stayed by her side, it was enough.
Xia Weichi takes a deep breath. She adjusts her expression before looking back at Song Wenzhi, adding, “I will stay with you forever; I will never leave halfway.”
Words spoken under the charm of the night tend to slip out easily, often carrying sincere intent and immense earnestness, turning into long-lasting and deep promises that tug at heartstrings and make people fall in love despite themselves. Xia Weichi’s voice is tinged with genuine emotion. Her gaze is fixed on Song Wenzhi’s eyes. In this bustling environment, surrounded by noisy crowds, she is accidentally bumped by someone and stumbles half a step forward. The Alpha is the first to lose herself in the Omega’s eyes.
Song Wenzhi is stunned for a moment before saying, “Weichi, you are my lifelong friend.”
Upon hearing this, Xia Weichi’s smile fades by half, but her expression remains unchanged. She follows the lead and nods, saying, “Okay.”
The roar of the crowd suddenly erupts. Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi look up together to see fireworks exploding in the sky. The brilliant fireworks are enchanting, blooming overhead. Accompanied by the laughter of those around them and the synchronized shouting of the countdown, it is impossible not to feel joyful.
A new year, a new life, a new place. The past must be left behind.
Watching the fireworks, Song Wenzhi also smiles faintly. Even the blowing wind seems to turn warm, allowing the Omega to temporarily forget her troubles and feel a happiness she hasn’t felt in a long time.
The fireworks exploding in the sky are very loud:
“Bang—”
There is a time difference between New York and the domestic side. About thirteen hours before the current moment in New York, during New Year’s Eve back home, in the city center of Yin City, there were also beautiful fireworks that made people wandering the streets stop and watch with smiles.
Yu Kunian also stopped. She looked up at the sky, her eyes lit by the glow of the fireworks. In the flickering light, her amber pupils looked like gemstones, but unfortunately, they were filled with sorrow.
It had rained in Yin City that day, only stopping in the afternoon. By night, the ground was still wet. Yu Kunian felt a bit cold. Although she wore a scarf, she still couldn’t ward off the biting chill of the night wind.
Standing on the streets of the city center, Yu Kunian watched the bustling crowds around her with immense loneliness. Though she was in the middle of the noise, she was still all alone. The day she returned home, she didn’t sleep all night. She still went to the balcony, but this time, her gaze fell on the potted plants.
The plants she and Song Wenzhi had raised together had all withered because they hadn’t been cared for in a long time.
The gift Song Wenzhi promised her would never be fulfilled. These plants seemed to know their relationship had broken, so they withered too. Yu Kunian stared at them blankly. She wasn’t good at gardening and was powerless to help; she remained lost in thought for a long time.
No one knew Yu Kunian had come to Yin City. On New Year’s Eve, while everyone else was in pairs or groups, she alone had turned off her phone, cut off all contact, and come to Yin City by herself in the morning.
In the afternoon, she first went to see Ms. Zheng Wan. The other woman didn’t yet know the truth about their divorce. When Zheng Wan asked about Song Wenzhi, Yu Kunian could only stall, saying everything was fine. She didn’t know why she was hiding it, but she did so instinctively… as if they really hadn’t divorced.
After watching a concert, Yu Kunian bid farewell to Zheng Wan. She walked out of the theater just as the rain stopped. However, the sky remained gloomy, and the air was filled with a misty fog. Yu Kunian’s mood was bad, just like the weather.
Yu Kunian hadn’t come just to wander around. After leaving the theater, she went to the Fourth Secondary School at the appointed time to meet with the school leadership.
Although she hadn’t interfered with Zhaoming Biotech since her removal, she was very clear about the company’s situation. The funds and investments brought in by Yu Sheng had indeed dissipated a large part of the crisis, but currently, more investment was needed to fill the gaps for it to truly be considered over.
So, Yu Kunian was here to resolve this matter.
The group meeting her today wasn’t as large as last time. The lead school official was a Beta named Ms. Xu, who was primarily responsible for this cooperation negotiation. Knowing Yu Kunian’s purpose, she had brought the contract.
In the meeting room, however, Yu Kunian did not sign the contract. She simply shook her head slightly and said, “I am no longer the CEO of Zhaoming Biotech.”
“I thought it was just a temporary leave of absence,” Ms. Xu said, looking somewhat surprised.
“No, I will not be taking over Zhaoming Biotech again.” Yu Kunian paused before continuing, “The person in charge now is my sister, Yu Sheng. I believe her abilities are equally outstanding. You can trust her just as you trusted me.”
Ms. Xu chuckled. “It’s not that I don’t trust CEO Yu’s sister, it’s just that I don’t quite understand why you would resign from the CEO position or even withdraw from Zhaoming Biotech entirely? CEO Yu, when the company’s funding crisis was making headlines, our side heard about it. If you had come to us to agree to a partnership then, perhaps it could have been resolved much earlier.”
Yu Kunian remained silent for a moment. She lowered her eyes. “Director Xu, Zhaoming Biotech will still bring surprises to Fourth Secondary without me. The company’s business is already very mature. My sister can manage it well and will not let down the expectations of the school. As for when the accident occurred at the company, I didn’t want Fourth Secondary to take a risk; that was my most prudent consideration.”
Fourth Secondary was her trump card.
Unless absolutely necessary, unless she was removed from office, she would not play it easily.
Ms. Xu looked at her for a while and seemed to understand something. Her smile deepened, and she stopped asking about the company. She changed the subject: “Then where does CEO Yu plan to seek employment next?”
“At least not in Lihua City,” Yu Kunian said, not giving a definitive answer.
“In that case, we won’t say more. The cooperation remains as planned. I trust CEO Yu’s character and am willing to accept your suggestions. Zhaoming Biotech is a company our side favors. No matter who the CEO is changed to, as long as CEO Yu says it’s good, we will have no objections.” Ms. Xu tucked the contract back away. She didn’t overstep, always knowing when to stop. “In a couple of days, I will personally go to discuss the cooperation with the current CEO.”
“Thank you, Director Xu, and Fourth Secondary for trusting me so much. Zhaoming Biotech will not disappoint you.” Yu Kunian stood up and shook hands with the other party. After a moment’s hesitation, she added, “There is one more thing I hope Director Xu can help me with.”
Ms. Xu smiled and said, “CEO Yu, don’t be polite. Please, speak.”
Yu Kunian said, “I hope Director Xu won’t tell my sister that I was the one who negotiated this cooperation. Just act as if Fourth Secondary never looked for me and never knew me.”
Upon hearing this, Ms. Xu was taken aback, but she quickly recovered. “Is it convenient to give a reason?”
Yu Kunian hesitated, finding it hard to explain.
“Understood. It’s inconvenient, so I won’t ask further. Since it’s CEO Yu’s request, we will comply. Rest assured, this cooperation is because our side recognized the product value of Zhaoming Biotech and took the initiative to negotiate.”
“Many thanks, Director Xu.”
“You’re welcome, CEO Yu. I hope everything goes smoothly for you in the future. If you have the chance, come visit Fourth Secondary more often.”
When she came out of Fourth Secondary, the sky was getting dark, and the streets were getting crowded and lively.
There were more pedestrians on the tree-lined road. Yu Kunian walked slowly, her figure weaving through the students who had just finished school. Listening to the noisy laughter around her, she became dazed. The Alpha stopped her pace, looking at the high schoolers coming and going, as if she could see that ginkgo tree again, and beside it was Song Wenzhi.
It was her Omega.
Only now could everything be considered completely resolved. Once the company’s crisis was averted and all compensation was paid, the Alpha’s restrictions would vanish, and the full process of Yu Kunian’s removal would finally be complete.
The cooperation with Fourth Secondary would likely be discussed this week. Yu Kunian no longer needed to worry about it and could let go completely.
Yu Kunian walked aimlessly through the tree-lined path and returned to the city center. With less than half an hour until the new year, the atmosphere in Yin City was clamorous. Everyone was excitedly looking forward to the arrival of midnight. But the Alpha stopped on the street. She wasn’t that expectant; she simply turned on her phone, ignored all missed calls and messages, and scrolled to the chat box with Song Wenzhi.
She wondered how the Omega would spend New Year’s Eve.
Her longing was about to consume her. Yu Kunian couldn’t wait any longer; she wanted to go see Song Wenzhi.
Jiang Qiu’s call came in for what felt like the umpteenth time. Yu Kunian finally answered. Before the other side could speak, Yu Kunian said: “I’m going to New York.”
