The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 42
“I have you now.”
Xia Weichi had specifically instructed that Song Wenzhi’s body was not suitable for a temporary marking at the very beginning of her heat cycle. Although Yu Kunian did not know why, she followed this advice strictly. She used her soothing pheromones to keep Song Wenzhi in a stable state.
Without the expected further loss of control, Song Wenzhi was also surprised by how peaceful the first day of this heat was; it could be barely managed just with Yu Kunian’s pheromones.
Now, Yu Kunian’s home was filled everywhere with their intermingling pheromones. Song Wenzhi no longer needed to search for traces of Yu Kunian on items of clothing, yet she still wore the Alpha’s jacket. Yu Kunian had no objection; she was currently more concerned with how to make this meal a bit better.
In the refrigerator were vegetables bought a couple of days ago. Ever since the last time Song Wenzhi came to her house to take care of her, Yu Kunian had intended to start learning how to cook. Consequently, she had prepared some ingredients and even bought a tutorial book, but she had been too busy lately and truly had no time, so the items had just been sitting there.
Song Wenzhi stood right behind Yu Kunian, watching the Alpha flip open the tutorial, slowly wash and then chop the vegetables, and hold the spatula unskillfully to stir-fry. But she was very earnest, and the Omega felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of trance. It was such an unrealistic scene that Song Wenzhi unconsciously reached out, took half a step forward, and caught the hem of Yu Kunian’s clothes with her fingers.
The Alpha turned the heat down and looked back, asking with a smile, “Zhizhi, what’s wrong?”
Song Wenzhi looked at her, her lips slightly pursed. The Alpha’s features were very clear, and her amber eyes were the same as always. She paused for a moment before pretending nothing was wrong to remind her: “The apron.”
Having said that, she turned to pick up the brand-new apron hanging nearby and handed it to Yu Kunian. “Be careful of oil splashing on your clothes.”
Yu Kunian put it on, then looked at her slightly flushed face and said, “Will the kitchen be a bit too smoky? Why don’t you wait for me in the living room?”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. She walked to Yu Kunian’s side, closed the tutorial book, and said, “I will guide you.”
She cherished every moment spent with Yu Kunian and wanted her presence to always be by the Alpha’s side. Yu Kunian, of course, would not refuse. With Song Wenzhi beside her, she wouldn’t feel so out of her element—at least she wouldn’t need to repeatedly check the tutorial to confirm if the food in the pan was done.
With Song Wenzhi giving her guidance, Yu Kunian never had to worry. Whether it was a speech or cooking, Yu Kunian believed that under the Omega’s direction, she would not make a mistake. Perhaps without either of them realizing it, the two had already become dependent on each other in various ways.
Yu Kunian only stir-fried two dishes. Because of her slow preparation, by the time she finished the two dishes, the delivery call arrived; the person said the food had been placed at the door. Yu Kunian simply decided not to cook any other dishes. She set the food on the dining table and, after letting Song Wenzhi sit down, went to the door to bring the delivery inside, unpacking and arranging it all.
Yu Kunian’s two dishes appeared inferior compared to the restaurant food. Their appearance could hardly be compared, let alone called exquisite, but Song Wenzhi still placed those two plates right in the center.
“Want to try?” Yu Kunian sat beside Song Wenzhi and spoke.
Song Wenzhi picked up her chopsticks and took a bite of each. Meeting Yu Kunian’s gaze, she evaluated: “For your first time cooking, this is already very good.”
Yu Kunian also tasted the food. One dish was so bland it was almost tasteless, and the other was slightly overcooked and a bit salty. The Alpha felt it really couldn’t be described as “very good.” Thus, she let out a soft laugh and asked, “Zhizhi, what are your standards for judging?”
“It’s cooked, and it’s not burnt; there’s just a lack of heat control and saltiness,” Song Wenzhi answered her seriously. “It really is quite good, and it’s edible.”
“Your standards for me are that low?” Yu Kunian said softly, her smile deepening.
Song Wenzhi turned to look at her and said, “They aren’t low; they are normal standards. Yu Kunian, if this is considered low, wouldn’t that be too harsh on you?”
Hearing this, Yu Kunian was startled. The word “harsh” was indeed very familiar.
More than once, Yu Kunian had heard Yu Dai and Yang Jin say to her that as their child, she should be excellent and must hold herself to high standards—if she couldn’t reach perfection, then she must reach 99%. For over twenty years, Yu Kunian had grown used to it. She was used to being strict in her actions and not making mistakes, because no one gave her a margin for error. The harsh words of her family kept her tense at all times, not daring to relax even slightly. If there was even the slightest disturbance, she would be scolded and blamed.
If Zhaoming Biotech had not succeeded back then, Yu Kunian didn’t know what would have happened to her; she had never dared to think about it.
“Zhizhi,” Yu Kunian returned to her senses. “If…” Her words slipped out but stopped abruptly. When she met Song Wenzhi’s gaze, Yu Kunian swallowed her words back down.
If she were to lose everything, would she still be beautiful in Song Wenzhi’s eyes? But perhaps that question was meaningless.
Song Wenzhi was still waiting for her to continue, but Yu Kunian had already quietly suppressed everything, saying instead, “Next time, I’ll strive to improve on these issues.”
“Okay,” Song Wenzhi responded.
Finally beginning this late lunch, Yu Kunian placed the specially ordered fried shrimp in front of Song Wenzhi. However, this time, compared to her favorite food, the Omega actually preferred the dishes she had cooked, not feeling at all that they tasted bad. Yu Kunian looked at Song Wenzhi’s profile as she ate seriously, and ripples rose in her heart, waves of water drifting over. She felt it was truly wonderful.
Her home, which had originally been cold and lonely with only herself, had gained a rare, warmer atmosphere of life because of Song Wenzhi’s arrival. Wherever Song Wenzhi was, it would not be lonely, even if they didn’t speak and just sat quietly.
Song Wenzhi noticed Yu Kunian’s gaze. She stopped her movements, turned her head, and asked, “What is it?”
“Zhizhi, would you like something to drink?” The sky outside was gradually darkening, and the lights inside the house were soft. Yu Kunian raised the corners of her mouth and answered with a question, her eyes full of smiles.
Song Wenzhi remembered the wine cabinet Yu Kunian had introduced to her during her last visit, which stored many wines. She herself didn’t love drinking that much, but Yu Kunian likely did, so she wanted to try some too.
Yu Kunian hadn’t expected Song Wenzhi to want to drink wine, but she nodded quickly, turned to take a bottle from the cabinet, and brought over two glasses. The red wine was poured into the glasses. Yu Kunian handed one to Song Wenzhi. “Try it and see if you can get used to the taste.”
Song Wenzhi took a sip. A faint bitterness lingered on the tip of her tongue, but it was quickly accompanied by a delicate aroma, making that bitterness becomes mellow and not at all intrusive. She didn’t understand wine, but she knew this taste was by no means ordinary, and it was delicious.
“Do you often drink wine?” Song Wenzhi asked, looking at the glass in her hand.
Yu Kunian said, “Occasionally. Sometimes when I feel confused, I drink, hoping it will guide me.” The Alpha spoke with a half-joking smile, but a few flashes of gloom crossed her eyes. She swirled the glass in her hand and then clinked it against Song Wenzhi’s.
Song Wenzhi turned her head. She knew that Yu Kunian had gone through countless hardships and trials in the past; managing Zhaoming Biotech was not easy.
The reports about Yu Kunian, whether true or false, mostly depicted her as a smooth-sailing, trouble-free rising star in business, believing that since she held connections with the Committee, she would not encounter obstacles. But in reality, because Yu Dai and Yang Jin disapproved at the beginning, everyone in the business circle understood that Yu Kunian had no backing; in fact, Yu Dai even hoped Yu Kunian would hit a wall and return home, so seeking cooperation had failed repeatedly.
“Yu Kunian,” Song Wenzhi said, looking at the empty glass in the Alpha’s hand. She wanted to say something but only called out the name of the person before her.
The Alpha raised her eyes, still smiling. She leaned a bit closer to Song Wenzhi. Her mouth held the lingering aftertaste of the wine, while the scent of coconut candy lingered at the tip of her nose—all of which made Yu Kunian feel joyful.
“Zhizhi, you don’t need to worry about me.” Yu Kunian rested her chin on Song Wenzhi’s shoulder, her hand gripping the Omega’s fingertips, seemingly able to see what Song Wenzhi was thinking. “I have you now.”
In the past, Yu Kunian was only one person. Her troubles were hidden in her heart along with the taste of wine during every lonely night, and her joys were the same. But it was different now. Yu Kunian had Song Wenzhi.
They could confide their troubles to each other and exchange their joys. Yu Kunian was willing to share everything with Song Wenzhi, no matter what it was, and she believed Song Wenzhi would do the same.
Yu Kunian gave Song Wenzhi a hug and repeated, “Don’t worry about me, Zhizhi.”
Song Wenzhi seemed reassured. She raised her hand to stroke Yu Kunian’s back. As the taste of wine on her tongue faded, she only smelled the scent of mint. “Yu Kunian, if you have something on your mind, you must tell me.”
Since they were already dating, if there were bothersome things in work or life, they must speak up. They should share the worries together instead of enduring them alone.
Yu Kunian said, “Mhm, I promise you.”
This meal lasted a long time, and the bottle of wine was finished by the two of them. Yu Kunian drank more. In the end, as if half-drunk, she held Song Wenzhi, and the two of them fell onto the sofa together.
With the closer distance, the Alpha’s and Omega’s pheromones became even clearer. Accompanied by the aroma of the red wine, Song Wenzhi lowered her head and buried it in the crook of Yu Kunian’s neck. The Alpha held Song Wenzhi’s waist tightly. Her mint scent suddenly released even more, which made it difficult for the Omega to resist, almost instinctively pressing her whole body closer.
Song Wenzhi said in a muffled voice, “Yu Kunian, are you drunk?”
Yu Kunian chuckled softly. “Zhizhi, I don’t get drunk that easily.”
“But your pheromones…”
“It’s because your scent has become stronger, Zhizhi,” Yu Kunian’s voice sounded right in Song Wenzhi’s ear, her tone gentle.
Only then did the Omega realize in hindsight that her gland seemed to have swollen slightly and was somewhat uncomfortable. It was just that because she had been drinking earlier, she hadn’t noticed it for a moment.
