- Chapter 30 - Your Love is Too Heavy, I...
The massive living room appeared calm on the surface. Su Xi sat on the soft sofa, head down as he ate fruit-flavored gummy candies, while Duan Cheng sat silently diagonally across from him, staring.
Being watched made Su Xi feel unnatural. He lifted his eyes toward Duan Cheng and asked muddledly, “Stop staring at me…”
He didn’t finish the second half of the sentence the word “scared.” The fear of being dominated by Duan Cheng last time was still a fresh, vivid memory; he truly didn’t want to experience it again.
Duan Cheng didn’t look away as requested. His pitch-black eyes remained on the boy’s exquisite face, drifting to the stinging red marks on his white-jade wrists and the peach-colored traces scattered over his exposed skin. After watching him for a while, he suddenly spoke: “Tomorrow, I’m taking you to the hospital for a check-up.”
“What?” Su Xi’s hand holding a gummy paused. He was surprised by the sudden medical check-up, but it was, without exception, another opportunity to go out. After a two-second daze, he nodded obediently.
The following afternoon, Duan Cheng indeed took Su Xi to a private hospital in the city center. The empty corridors saw few people passing by, and the nurses pushing carts were all dressed in sterilized scrubs. Su Xi felt a bit apprehensive as Duan Cheng led him by the hand to draw blood first.
His gaze swept over the names of the surrounding clinics, and an uneasy thought surfaced in his mind. His face paled as he tentatively asked, “A-Cheng, where are we going?”
Duan Cheng looked at the boy’s deathly pale face and replied calmly, “To see if your constitution makes it easy for you to get pregnant.”
Pregnant?
He’s not joking, is he? Even though he was an Omega, the system never mentioned this possibility during missions.
Su Xi wanted to pull his hand back and retreat, but the man’s grip was too strong. Unable to break free, he softened his voice to change the subject: “I want to go to the restroom.”
Su Xi didn’t dare refuse when Duan Cheng insisted on accompanying him. The restroom was quiet. As he stood by the sink rinsing his hands, the tips of his ears turned so red they looked ready to bleed. He glanced at a boy dressed as a medical intern nearby. Glancing at the door to ensure Duan Cheng couldn’t see inside, he bit his lip hesitantly.
“Um… could you help me?”
The intern had already noticed the stunningly beautiful Omega and hadn’t expected him to initiate a conversation. He pointed to himself in surprise. “Me?”
“Mm.” Su Xi nodded seriously and made a simple request. The other party agreed after a moment of hesitation. They swapped clothes in a stall, and to be safe, Su Xi sprayed all the incense from the sink area onto himself to mask his scent.
Taking two deep breaths, he pulled up a mask to cover most of his face and walked out with feigned composure. He didn’t even lift his head as he passed Duan Cheng. Once he rounded the corner of the corridor, he quickened his pace and ran all the way to a secluded stairwell.
“Hah… so tired.” Su Xi leaned over with his hands on his knees, gasping for air. He pulled down the mask, his jade-like face flushed and his forehead drenched in fine sweat.
“Host, Duan Cheng discovered you ran away,” System 1368 reported promptly. “Should I message Fu Heng and Li Huai?”
“No.” Su Xi shook his head and pulled the mask back up. Duan Cheng must have blocked the exits by now. He couldn’t go down, so he could only go up. Avoiding the cameras as best he could, Su Xi followed directions to the third-floor laboratory department.
The lab was filled with complex and expensive equipment stacks of silver-white pods. Few people came here. Su Xi surveyed the area and decisively chose a pod in the farthest corner, opening it and curling up inside.
“Host, we’ll be found sooner or later.” From System 1368’s perspective, it could see Duan Cheng’s grim expression as he led a search through the hospital. If Su Xi were caught, he’d be lucky not to be killed, it looked like he was headed back to the golden cage.
Su Xi’s eyelashes trembled. He curled himself into the cramped pod, the silence around him broken only by his own light, shallow breathing.
“Not only does he want to lock me up, he wants me pregnant. That’s too much,” he answered the system.
“Even though your setting is an Omega, with me here, you won’t get pregnant. That violates regulations! So don’t worry, even if you did, I’d make sure it didn’t stay!” System 1368 reassured him confidently.
Su Xi pursed his lips. “If I’m not mistaken, Fu Heng should be here too.”
“No way.” Just as System 1368 was about to say more, it paused. “Wait, Li Huai is here too? Why?”
“Duan Cheng brought them, of course. He wants me to see ‘old acquaintances’ so I’ll give up hope.” Su Xi spoke succinctly. He held his breath and watched the environment through the small screen inside the pod. After half an hour of silence, he was about to sigh in relief when two soft knocks sounded on the top of the pod.
“Come out.” Duan Cheng’s voice rang out like a death knell.
Su Xi’s breath hitched. He closed his eyes, intending to act as if he hadn’t heard. But Duan Cheng, already knowing he was inside, wouldn’t let him off. The pod, which had been locked from the inside, slid open to the left. The pale beauty was grabbed by the wrist and stumbled as he was pulled out.
“Want to go see your old lovers? They’re both looking for you.” Duan Cheng leaned down, lifting the boy’s chin with his finger.
“No.” Su Xi shook his head, his face so pale it seemed translucent. He gripped Duan Cheng’s wrist tightly, making up a frantic excuse: “I didn’t want to run, A-Cheng. Don’t be mad.”
“Heh.” Duan Cheng’s fingertip slid from the chin to the fragile gland, which still bore clear teeth marks. Even as the boy’s eyes turned red with pain, he didn’t soften. He arched an eyebrow and said coldly, “Using the restroom as an excuse to seduce someone into helping you buy time, then hiding when you realized you couldn’t get out that’s ‘not wanting to run’?”
“Su Xi, I’m not stupid.”
Su Xi met those paranoid, dark eyes. His pupils shrank as he called out frantically for System 1368 in his mind, but the usually active system didn’t respond. This situation again…
He lowered his eyes. When he looked up again, a mist had clouded his vision. His face, flushed from the manipulation of his gland, looked as vivid as a peach blossom pitiful and helpless. “I know I was wrong. Let go first, please… it hurts…”
In Duan Cheng’s eyes, this fragile appearance had become a mask he saw every time the boy lied. Knowing the boy’s true nature, the hand pressing the gland showed no mercy, crushing it ruthlessly. The delicate skin turned swollen and tender. Su Xi felt his whole body go weak; if Duan Cheng hadn’t been holding his waist, he would have been too shaky to stand.
“There won’t be a next time.”
Duan Cheng’s voice was very soft, reaching Su Xi’s ear like a breeze. The words were a final warning.
As Duan Cheng led him out of the hospital by the wrist, the surrounding gazes fell on him without disguise. Su Xi kept his head down, wishing he could dig a hole in the ground to hide. He was unnervingly quiet throughout the entire process. Once the doors were closed, he was once again locked inside that golden birdcage.
Duan Cheng stood outside the bars, looking at the medical report sent by the doctor. His cold face betrayed no emotion. Suddenly, he looked at the person inside the cage and said, “It’s easier to conceive during heat. Xi, let’s try.”
After speaking, he turned and left the room. The dim room allowed no light to enter. His heat had only just passed; the next one wouldn’t be for another half-month. Su Xi’s seemingly calm heart disintegrated when he saw what Duan Cheng returned with.
A silver-white case was opened, revealing several syringes. A silver-blue liquid shimmered in the transparent glass bottles. Duan Cheng fluently drew the liquid into a syringe, pushed out a few air bubbles, and walked step-by-step toward Su Xi.
“Don’t come near me! I don’t want that—” Su Xi backed away in panic, watching helplessly as Duan Cheng’s identity recognition cleared and the cage door opened. As the man closed in, Su Xi pressed his back against the uncomfortable decorative bars, trying to dodge the touch.
But Duan Cheng simply released a bit of pheromones, and Su Xi went limp, unable to muster a shred of strength. He could only allow the man to pin his shoulders. As the cool needle touched his fair arm, Su Xi bit his lip hard, trying desperately to pull his hand back.
“Don’t be afraid. It won’t hurt,” Duan Cheng comforted him softly.
But to Su Xi, that voice was no different from a reaper’s. Taking advantage of a distraction, he grabbed a nearby pillow and threw it at the man, stumbling as he stood up to run. He accidentally kicked over the silver case and fell to the floor in pain, blindly grabbing a sharp scalpel from the floor.
“Don’t come near me…” His voice trembled as he spoke.
Duan Cheng’s eyes remained unnervingly calm, even holding a trace of eerie excitement: “Baby, do you even know how to use a knife?”
Su Xi’s face was deathly pale. He pressed the scalpel against his own neck, the sharp edge slicing the delicate skin. Crimson beads of blood seeped out, seemingly emitting a faint orchid fragrance. He forced himself to use the firmest tone possible: “Let me go.”
“Impossible,” Duan Cheng refused, his brow furrowed slightly.
The moment the words fell, the scalpel went deeper. Blood began to flow uncontrollably from the wound, winding down his smooth neck and staining his white shirt a jarring red.
Duan Cheng let out a scoff of anger. He stopped in his tracks, refusing to move forward. His tone held a hint of regret: “It’s so dangerous outside. Why do you always think of running?”
“It’s still better than being locked up by you,” Su Xi countered.
“I only do it because I love you too much.”
What kind of love is this? I don’t want this twisted love.
Su Xi’s eyelashes flickered. He blinked and suddenly smiled: “I remember your birthday is in two days. A-Cheng, your gift is in the second drawer of my bedroom nightstand.”
“What do you mean?” Duan Cheng sensed something was wrong. He frantically tried to reach for the boy’s hand, but Su Xi moved first. Scorching, spraying blood splattered onto the carpeted floor. The rich orchid fragrance in the room gradually turned faint.
As his vision plunged into darkness, Su Xi only heard Duan Cheng scream his name. In his daze, he seemed to see Li Huai and Fu Heng arriving too late, their eyes red as they attacked Duan Cheng. All their poise was gone. Duan Cheng simply held the boy’s already unconscious body in silence, refusing to let go.
The siren of the ambulance was noisy. The cacophony of the conflict that had arisen because of him seemed sealed away. The sounds in his ears finally faded into silence. The ceramic kitten fell to the side, shattering into two halves.
[Determined: Vessel has died…]
[Ding-dong! Congratulations, Host, on completing the ‘Save the Villain’ mission. Rewards are being calculated…]
[Host Su Xi, determined: This mission is calculated as S-rank. Rewards have been distributed; please check your inbox!]
[Body testing… Wounds have been repaired.]
Su Xi felt as if he were soaking in soft water; all his lethargy and exhaustion vanished. He floated in the void, listening to the cold mechanical voice.
[New world information loaded successfully. Please work hard to complete the mission! Do not be passive!]
[Identity: You are the newly assigned project leader at the institute. You are reclusive, poor at socializing, and prefer working alone—only because you don’t want others to discover your secret. A new batch of test subjects has arrived at the facility, housed in the containment rooms on the fourth floor. Please find the mission target and complete the task.]
Listening to the rules of the new world, Su Xi felt the identity seemed much more useful than the last one. But he still had questions; if he had to find the mission target himself, wouldn’t he have to deal with many test subjects? It sounded troublesome.
He was about to ask for more information when a blinding white light flashed before his eyes. The words he hadn’t yet spoken died in his throat. Intermittent, noisy static rang in his ears.
[Future world collapse… Host, please note… uncontrollable factors will appear after world collapse. Host, please handle with care, do not—*&] The remaining voice turned into garbled code.
[New world opened.]
