- Chapter 29 - Attempted Domestication After Clipping the Wings
Inside the quiet room, soft light spilled through the glass window. Su Xi sat at the dining table, padded with soft pillows behind his back and beneath him. His features were stained with the lingering traces of passion, and his entire body emitted a scent like overripe orchids.
Duan Cheng sat beside him, feeding him. When Su Xi was happy, he’d take a few bites; when he wasn’t, he’d turn his head away in refusal. Duan Cheng had taken far too much the night before, and knowing he was in the wrong, he didn’t get angry. He watched the boy’s glistening lips as he swallowed the porridge, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
“Stop looking at me…” Su Xi’s ears turned red as he glared at the man.
To Duan Cheng, that glare was nothing more than a bashful, angry pout. He calmly shifted his gaze and asked flatly, “Are you full?”
“No,” Su Xi coughed softly, realizing the man’s meaning—if he didn’t look, how could he feed him? His eyelashes flickered as he grabbed Duan Cheng’s sleeve, leaning in to act spoiled. “I told you no more yesterday, but you kept pestering me. My waist hurts.”
Duan Cheng’s hand landed on the boy’s waist; he could feel the warm flexibility even through the thin clothing. Scenes from the previous night replayed in his mind. He kneaded the boy’s waist, and once he finished feeding the increasingly pampered, post-marked Su Xi, he led him to the end of the second-floor corridor.
“Baby, I prepared a gift for you.” Duan Cheng stood at the door, looking back at Su Xi’s expression.
Su Xi lifted his chin slightly, rattling the gold bell-adorned chain on his wrist. “I don’t like it. Take it off.”
The chain was noisy and irritating, tinkling with every movement, as was the one on his foot. Every tiny action was infinitely magnified. Despite it being purely decorative, Duan Cheng loved it intensely and tugged at it every time.
Duan Cheng didn’t answer immediately. He let out a soft chuckle and pushed open the closed door under the boy’s gaze. Su Xi followed his line of sight: the room was massive and significantly emptier than the others, containing only a giant golden birdcage. Colorful gemstones were embedded in its grooves, and exquisite vines wound around the slender pillars. Delicate hooks were adorned with blooming pink and white roses.
Su Xi’s pupils shrank. He stumbled back two steps, intending to retreat, but Duan Cheng gripped his wrist tightly, forcing him to stay in place.
“I’ve been preparing this since the day you first provoked me.” Duan Cheng’s lips curved slightly, his eyes full of paranoia and madness. He stared at the boy’s deathly pale face. “When you ran away last time, I thought about catching you and locking you in a cage so you could never run again.”
“You’re crazy…” Su Xi fought to pull his hand back, ignored the fact that his wrist was being rubbed raw. He couldn’t stop himself from backing away several steps; he did not want to be locked in that cage.
No matter how beautiful it was, he didn’t like it.
“I’ve been crazy for a long time. I gave you a chance, but you didn’t take it.” Duan Cheng took the boy’s hand with non-negotiable force. Looking at the stinging red mark, he spoke with a hint of distress: “It’s all red.”
During the time Su Xi was away from him, he had stayed quite comfortably with Li Huai. His life without Duan Cheng was flourishing; he even met with Fu Heng and went for late-night walks. Only Duan Cheng had stayed in an empty house, waiting for him to return.
A disobedient canary must have its wings clipped and be locked away. A hurtful Pink and White Lychee must have its sharp thorns removed, leaving only the soft interior.
Duan Cheng’s grip felt as if it would crush Su Xi’s bones. Su Xi turned pale with pain. He took a sharp breath, his eyes instantly turning wet. He trembled his eyelashes and gave in: “A-Cheng, don’t lock me in there… I’ll be good. And you’ve already permanently marked me; I won’t run.”
Seeing Duan Cheng’s face soften as if he were being swayed, Su Xi struck while the iron was hot. He proactively stepped forward, standing on tiptoes to leave a light, dragonfly-touch kiss on the man’s lips. The gland on the back of his neck emitted an alluring orchid fragrance.
“What part don’t you like?” Duan Cheng stared at the golden cage in silence for a moment before continuing, “These gems truly aren’t pretty enough. It’s okay; I’ll find better ones for you.”
“…” Su Xi felt there was absolutely no point in communicating with the man. Duan Cheng was currently a psychopathic lunatic whose brain worked on a completely different wavelength.
His mind raced. Taking advantage of the man’s distraction, he bolted. But before he even reached the corridor, he was caught. Duan Cheng was a full ten centimeters taller than him; he couldn’t outrun him.
“Duan Cheng, let go!” He frowned and struggled. Seeing that acting soft didn’t work, he couldn’t help but snap, “Get lost! What kind of trashy cage is this? I’m not going in! If you like it so much, why don’t you go in yourself…”
“You’re too good at lying.” Duan Cheng stopped the boy’s movements and forcibly pinched his chin. Looking at those crimson lips, his dark eyes grew deep. He spoke as if casting a spell: “If you don’t like it, shall we switch to a bigger one next time?”
“I don’t want to!” Su Xi’s face turned red with anger. But as soon as the words left his mouth, he felt an internal sense of emptiness, a symptom of being marked.
Once an Omega is marked by an Alpha, they instinctively rely on, approach, and obey that person.
“Be good.” Duan Cheng reached out to stroke the boy’s soft dark hair. Half-holding and half-dragging him, he led him toward the golden birdcage. Su Xi’s struggles were no different from a cat or dog’s play-fighting to him.
Just as they reached the cage door, Su Xi suddenly fell silent. He was unnervingly quiet. When he spoke, his voice was very soft: “Do you really have to force me?”
“Be good. Get in.” Duan Cheng opened the cage door, his tone tender yet carrying a non-negotiable command.
This was a roundabout answer to Su Xi’s question. Su Xi’s eyes lowered, hiding his emotions. He bit his lip and obediently entered the golden cage. It was about the size of two beds enough room to move but once inside, he simply sat silently in a corner, curling his legs and leaning against the cold bars.
“I don’t like you anymore…” Su Xi murmured to himself in a low voice.
The sound was so faint that Duan Cheng didn’t hear it. He only knew that the person before him finally, truly belonged to him. Sensing the orchid fragrance in the air turn faint, a wave of panic rose in his heart, but the abnormal emotion was quickly suppressed upon seeing Su Xi.
Once the door was closed, sealing off the inside from the out, Su Xi relaxed his posture, though he still didn’t lift his head. He bit his lip, thinking that Duan Cheng truly was not human.
To treat him so excessively last night and then demand he enter a cage today… even if the interior had soft carpets and cushions, how could it be as comfortable as a bed?
“Host, are you alright?” System 1368 asked with concern. “Duan Cheng is too much… how about I apply to the higher-ups to see if we can leave early?”
“No need,” Su Xi said succinctly, adding softly, “I can be even more excessive than him.”
In the evening, Duan Cheng brought food to the cage. Su Xi was exactly where he had left him, sitting silently in the corner with his head down, his body shivering slightly.
Duan Cheng unlocked the cage and entered, slowly approaching Su Xi. Just as he knelt down, a soft warmth suddenly filled his arms. The person in his embrace had moist eyes and looked utterly pitiful.
“Release some pheromones…” Su Xi had only been away from Duan Cheng for half a day, yet the absence of his pheromones made him feel miserable. The dual torture of body and mind left him in a daze.
He had known the moment the lock clicked that Duan Cheng was coming.
Hearing Su Xi’s words, Duan Cheng released a bit more pheromones. He only lifted his eyes to look at the boy after he had gradually calmed down in his arms, saying softly, “You’ve finally become obedient.”
“I have no strength. Feed me.” Su Xi ignored the comment. Looking at the food the man had brought, he demanded to be fed, but he was full after only two bites.
“Eat more.” Duan Cheng frowned, speaking in a commanding tone.
“But I can’t—” The words at the tip of Su Xi’s tongue were swallowed back down. He silently and obediently finished the food the man pressed to his lips, his stomach churning with an intense wave of discomfort.
The sky outside darkened again. Unfortunately, he had no way of knowing the rising and setting of the sun; he could only confirm the time by Duan Cheng’s arrivals. He knew: Duan Cheng was trying to domesticate him.
In the darkness, when he desperately needed the comfort of a partner’s pheromones, Duan Cheng would always appear before him against the light. Warm and domineering, he would barge in, and Su Xi found himself almost uncontrollably wanting to be close to him.
His back grew hot from the friction. Su Xi whimpered and gripped the blanket beneath him, his knuckles turning white. He craved the man’s aura, so he instinctively flattered him and accepted everything given be it pleasure or pain.
Varying shades of red marks crisscrossed his fair skin like winter plums blooming in the deep cold. His long, curled eyelashes trembled violently, clinging to crystalline tears.
The lock on the golden birdcage could only be opened by Duan Cheng’s identity recognition; Su Xi had no way out. Having finally been “let off,” he lay on the soft cushions, the thin blanket unable to cover the traces of passion. The air was thick with the scent of the aftermath of desire.
Only after they were finished would he be carried out of the cage to the bathroom to be cleaned. This was his only opportunity. Su Xi leaned lazily against the edge of the tub, allowing the man to wash him.
In the steam-filled bathroom, Su Xi’s wet hand landed on Duan Cheng’s face. He stared at the man for a long time, a trace of vulnerability flashing across his vibrant face: “Let me out. It’s so cold in there.”
“You want to come out?” Duan Cheng asked, knowing the answer.
“Mm. It’s too cold staying in there.” Su Xi reached out to take the man’s hand and placed it on his own gland, his face flushed from the heat. “A-Cheng, I like you most.”
“Mm.” Duan Cheng’s breath hitched. The person before him had shimmering eyes, and the orchid scent intensified by the heat was like the finest intoxicating drug. The feeling of just having been satiated surfaced once more.
Su Xi couldn’t remember how he had been “spared.” He only knew that when he finally woke up, he was back in the original bedroom, and the gold chain on his wrist was gone.
He felt a surge of joy and wanted to stand up and move around, but every movement brought a stinging pain. His eyes turned red from the discomfort. He looked around but couldn’t find any sign of Duan Cheng.
“Did he go out?” he asked System 1368 softly.
“He did, but he’s watching you through a monitor,” System 1368 replied succinctly, adding: “And it’s the kind of ultra-high-definition footage that covers an entire wall.”
“…” Su Xi pursed his lips. Forcing himself up, he reached for the glass on the nightstand and downed half a glass of water.
