The Premeditated Seductress Childhood Friend - Chapter 24
Chapter 24: Come Over
Suddenly losing interest in the milk tea, Song Yixi took two shallow sips and tossed it. Standing by the trash can, she wiped her hands dry and turned around to see Chen Jingyu arriving with friends.
Chen Jingyu looked at her with an unfriendly, hostile gaze. Song Yixi suddenly remembered that they were WeChat friends and she hadn’t blocked Chen Jingyu from seeing that specific Moments post. This was likely a “showdown” visit.
Song Yixi let out a sigh, feeling quite annoyed. She wasn’t in the mood for this right now.
Chen Jingyu walked straight up to her. “That post on your Moments—it’s about my boyfriend, isn’t it?”
The screenshot Song Yixi posted hadn’t shown a name. She raised an eyebrow and admitted it: “Mhm.”
Just as Song Yixi thought Chen Jingyu would at least throw a few sarcastic remarks her way, the other girl simply said, “Fine.” Then she turned around and started to walk out of the milk tea shop with her friends.
Song Yixi was surprised. Before she could process it, Chen Jingyu stopped and added, “This has nothing to do with you. I won’t thank you for speaking up for me. Just because his character is trash doesn’t mean the grudge between us is settled.”
Song Yixi was speechless. “What ‘grudge’? You’re the one who unilaterally turned off my AC.”
Song Yixi always held a grudge, but Chen Jingyu’s attitude toward this matter was quite unexpected. “Whatever, I don’t want to bicker with you. Go handle your boyfriend; his taste is absolute garbage.”
Chen Jingyu snapped back, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. He’s just a man; there are plenty more where he came from.”
“Wow.” Despite their poor relationship, Song Yixi felt a sudden impulse to praise her. The words that came out were: “If only you had half as much backbone when it comes to the AC as you do with dating.”
Chen Jingyu glared at her fiercely. “What do you know? Dating is about getting someone else to spend money on me. If one doesn’t work out, I’ll find another. There are plenty of people willing to spend money on me—not like you, a total sucker.”
Song Yixi was stunned by the insult. “How am I a sucker?”
Chen Jingyu said, “You pay for a dorm but don’t live there and rent an apartment instead. If you aren’t a sucker, who is? You buy milk tea, take two sips, and throw it away. Someone like you will probably just end up foolishly spending all your money on whoever you date.”
“Pah!” At the mention of the apartment, Song Yixi got angry too. “I’ll spend it, so what? I have money, I’ll spend it, spend it, spend it!”
Chen Jingyu shouted back: “Sucker, sucker, sucker!”
After a few minutes of mindless bickering, Chen Jingyu’s friends couldn’t take it anymore and pulled her away. Song Yixi stretched, feeling a bit better after the shouting match. But she was thirsty again.
She went to buy a bottle of mineral water, thinking about what Chen Jingyu just said as she drank. She didn’t agree with the idea of dating just to let someone else spend money. It was supposed to be mutual. Just like her and Xu Qingyu—they both bought things for each other.
Wait.
Song Yixi stopped mid-sip. How did I loop back to Xu Qingyu again? No, she couldn’t think about it anymore. Forcing her stray thoughts back into line, she walked out and messaged Yu Wei to ask about dinner.
Yu Wei: [Sure.] Yu Wei: [Where are you? The Senior was looking for you earlier; she even asked me.] Yu Wei: [I thought you rushed off to find her.]
Song Yixi didn’t know how to explain, so she skipped the details and said: [Ran into Chen Jingyu; she said some random stuff to me.]
Yu Wei’s gossipy side immediately flared up. [Let’s get BBQ. We can talk while we eat.]
Song Yixi saw the address for the BBQ place, scanned a shared bike on campus, and rode over. They met up at the restaurant and chatted while the meat sizzled. Song Yixi gave a general summary of what happened at the milk tea shop.
Yu Wei said, “Then don’t worry about her. It sounds like she didn’t even like 6’3″ that much; she just wanted him to spend money on her. She’ll probably break up today and have a new boyfriend tomorrow.”
Song Yixi wrapped a piece of meat in lettuce and said slowly, “I don’t see the point in dating like that. Neither person is sincere, and partners are replaced so easily. If I were in a relationship…”
Song Yixi stopped abruptly. She had accidentally let something slip.
Yu Wei looked like she knew everything. “I realized ages ago that you’ve never been in a relationship, okay? Stop pretending; you’re terrible at it.”
“How did you know?” The meat in Song Yixi’s mouth suddenly lost its flavor.
Yu Wei shook her head helplessly. “I’m not even going to bother discussing this with you.”
Song Yixi twitched her lip and decided to let it go. Being seen through wasn’t the end of the world. “Anyway, tell me about Xu Qingyu’s ‘frantic suitor’.”
Knowing she was still hung up on that, Yu Wei put down her chopsticks and grandly picked up her water glass. “Grilling and eating while telling gossip is exhausting work.”
“Don’t move, I’ll do it.” Song Yixi started grilling meat frantically.
Satisfied, Yu Wei ate and spoke: “Basically, there’s a guy in the Senior’s class who has a massive crush on her. He buys her food and drinks, secretly looks after her, and every time he gets caught and teased, he pretends he doesn’t care at all. To the point that after four years as classmates, the Senior doesn’t even know who he is.”
Song Yixi’s hand froze mid-air. Why did this story sound so familiar? It was like she had lived it herself.
Yu Wei snapped her fingers, signaling her to keep grilling. “So, you get it? If you like someone, say it out loud! How else are they supposed to know? If you’re good to her while she knows you like her, she’ll notice you sooner or later.”
Song Yixi resentfully dropped a piece of grilled meat onto Yu Wei’s plate. “Who said I wanted to hear that?”
Yu Wei said, “Just admit it. You have a crush on the Senior, just like that suitor, and you’re too stubborn to admit it. He finally confessed and the Senior hit him with a ‘critical strike’ by not knowing who he was. Do you want that to happen to you?”
“How could Xu Qingyu not know who I am…” As soon as the words left her mouth, Song Yixi realized she had been led right into Yu Wei’s trap. “Wait, no! Who said I have a crush on her?”
Yu Wei wagged a finger. “No need to deny it. I know everything.”
Song Yixi ground her teeth, wanting to be angry but unable to find a retort. Yu Wei patted her chest and said seriously, “People who have never dated should just listen to advice.”
Song Yixi let out a cold laugh. “And you have?”
Yu Wei choked and immediately shut up. Song Yixi raised an eyebrow, feeling vindicated.
They finished their meal in silence and headed home. Arriving at the apartment building, Song Yixi saw the lights were on in Xu Qingyu’s place. Her footsteps faltered, and she followed Yu Wei up with a heavy heart.
Stepping out of the elevator, she peeked cautiously at Xu Qingyu’s door, terrified of alerting her. She couldn’t explain why she had stood her up, and Xu Qingyu hadn’t messaged to ask. It was strange.
But no matter how quiet she was, the person inside heard. As the door opposite opened, Song Yixi froze in place.
In the next second, a languid voice drifted into her ears: “Song Yixi, come over.”
