- Chapter 4 - The Provocative Actress vs. The Gloomy Heiress
Chu Ning felt not a ripple of emotion in her heart. Instead, she responded with biting sarcasm, “Hah, I wonder who she takes after with such low-class behavior.”
Just as the person on the other end of the phone was about to erupt in anger again, a woman’s voice chimed in, “Honey, don’t be mad. Ningning is grown up now, it’s normal for her to have her own romantic life. It’s not like she meant to get caught on camera.”
Listening to this blatant instigation, Chu Ning let out a cold laugh.
Chu Tianheng, having moved the phone slightly away from his ear, raised his voice at the woman beside him, “If she hadn’t done such disgraceful things, she wouldn’t have been photographed in the first place! If she weren’t crooked herself, how could her shadow be anything but twisted?”
Then, turning back to the phone, he barked an order at Chu Ning, “You must come home tonight! And you’d better fix this mess properly!”
Go home?
Chu Ning agreed immediately, “Fine, I’ll come back tonight.”
Without waiting for Chu Tianheng to say another word, she hung up the phone.
She had originally moved into the apartment to focus on her studies. Now that she had graduated high school and received her university acceptance letter, it was only natural to move back home. Next, she opened her laptop and began searching for information on Ye Zhixia…
At the Chu family estate, Chu Tianheng was left fuming after Chu Ning hung up on him. He hurled his phone across the room, shouting, “That ungrateful girl! How dare she hang up on me!”
The glamorous middle-aged woman beside him gently patted his chest to soothe him. “Honey, don’t be angry. Ningning will understand your good intentions when she’s older.”
Chu Tianheng continued to rage, “She’s already eighteen! Is this any way to treat her own father? Does she even see me as her dad?”
The woman clung to Chu Tianheng’s arm. “Tianheng, you still have our son, don’t you? At least he can share some of your burdens.”
Hearing her comforting words, Chu Tianheng sighed and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “You’re right. Yufen, you and Chu Xiao are the ones who truly understand me.”

Meanwhile, Ye Zhixia lounged lazily on the sofa, scrolling through her phone with a mocking smile. “Thinking of deleting your posts and running away? Not a chance!”
Hearing this, Xiao Mi fluttered over excitedly, tilting her head to peek at the screen. “What’s going on? Did the gossip account that posted the news chicken out?”
Ye Zhixia gave a dismissive hum. “I already saved screenshots of their homepage URL and the posts they published. Did they really think hiding behind the internet would keep them safe?”
Thrilled at the prospect of Minister Ye punishing these rumor-mongers, Xiao Mi buzzed around in excitement. “Xiaxia, you’re amazing! Let’s sue them! This is so satisfying!”
Ye Zhixia suddenly reached out and snatched Xiao Mi out of the air. “Stop flying around, you’re making me dizzy!”
She cradled the little creature in her arms, scratching under its chin as she patiently explained, “Suing them isn’t the end goal. We need to find out who they are so we can trace who ordered them to release those photos.”
“This attack on Chu Ning was meticulously planned, with multiple people involved. We can’t afford to overlook any leads.”
“Xiaxia, do you hear that sound?” Xiao Mi frowned, her tiny whiskers twitching.
Amused by her adorable expression, Ye Zhixia first stroked her whiskers before getting up to investigate the noise.
Just as she pinpointed the source, a drawer beneath the TV the sound stopped.
She pulled it open to find a phone inside.
Xiao Mi suddenly realized, “Ah, right! The original owner had two phones, one for personal use and one for work. Last night’s prom was a private event, so you took the personal phone. The one in the drawer is the work phone.”
Ye Zhixia picked up the work phone and unlocked it with her fingerprint.
32 missed calls?
18 text messages?
Ye Zhixia chuckled helplessly and turned to Xiao Mi, “No wonder my agent didn’t seem to care about the trending scandal. Turns out I just didn’t receive the concern.”
The phone rang again, and this time she answered immediately, “Hello?”
“Xiaxia, what are you doing? Did you forget your work phone again? Get to the company right now to explain the Weibo situation!” The rapid-fire voice of her agent, Chen Chen, crackled through the phone.
Knowing she was at fault, Ye Zhixia quickly replied, “Got it, Chen Chen-jie. I’ll head over right away.”
“Hurry up!” After the sharp command, Chen Chen hung up.
As the dial tone beeped, Xiao Mi and Ye Zhixia exchanged glances and stuck out their tongues at each other.
Ye Zhixia quickly freshened up and changed into a simple yet elegant white maxi dress.
Tall and slender, she looked like a goddess in the flowing dress.
Actors didn’t have assigned desks at the company, so whenever she went in, she headed straight to her agent’s office, where all her files were kept.
When Ye Zhixia arrived at the company, Lisa from the outer office spotted her and greeted her quietly before whispering, “Xiaxia-jie, there’s a newcomer inside talking to Agent Chen right now. Maybe you could, ”
Ye Zhixia leaned in closer to Lisa, listening attentively before smiling sweetly, “I’ll wait outside. Who’s the newcomer?”
Relieved that she wasn’t acting like a diva, Lisa smiled back, “It’s Xu Miaomiao, a new signing.”
Xu Miaomiao? The naive, sweet female lead of this world?
“Oh?” Ye Zhixia glanced toward Chen Chen’s office and smiled meaningfully. “I’ll wait in the lounge.”
Lisa beamed, her eyes crinkling into slits. “I’ll let you know as soon as they’re done.”
Ye Zhixia nodded and settled into the lounge, then silently instructed Xiao Mi: [Go eavesdrop on Xu Miaomiao and Chen Chen for me.]
Xiao Mi obeyed, darting toward the office and syncing its audio feed with Ye Zhixia’s receiver to stream their conversation live.
A young woman’s voice pleaded, “Chen Chen-jie, my image fits the style of Millennium Love perfectly. Could the company recommend me to the production team?”
A calm, authoritative voice replied, “The director has full control over casting for this film. Our company has no say in it.”
Xu Miaomiao persisted, “But Xiaxia-jie is the lead actress. Couldn’t she put in a word for me? My participation would benefit the company too.”
Chen Chen’s tone turned icy. “Director Kong Sen has always chosen his own cast. There’s nothing we can do. You should leave now, I have another appointment.”
With a reluctant sigh, Xu Miaomiao exited the office.
Hearing her leave, Ye Zhixia stood up and stepped out of the lounge only to bump right into her.
Xu Miaomiao instantly put on an extremely well-behaved expression, her eyes sparkling with admiration: “Movie Queen Ye! I really like you.”
Ye Zhixia smiled politely at her: “I have some matters to attend to, dear. Let’s chat next time.”
Then she walked straight toward the direction of the agent’s office.
Xiao Mi had already flown to Ye Zhixia’s side, hugging her tiny paws as she said: “This Xu Miaomiao doesn’t seem like a naive sweet girl. She’s quite ambitious.”
Ye Zhixia responded telepathically: “This world seems quite different from what the script described.”
