Chapter 10: Guess Why I Care That You Hate Me?
“I am his husband. What’s strange about him having my pheromones on him?” Wei Yuzhi stepped out from behind Wen Zhiyi, the tall, handsome Omega looking contemptuously at the two visibly bruised love rivals. He sneered, pointing out frankly and coldly, “Let me offer you a word of advice: a qualified ex should be as good as dead.”
Chen Que stood motionless, his tightly clenched fists looking like they would land on Wei Yuzhi’s face any second.
But he didn’t dare.
Because he felt that Wen Zhiyi clearly, clearly still had feelings for Wei Yuzhi, otherwise he wouldn’t allow such a dense concentration of the Omega’s pheromones on himself.
He didn’t dare to let Wen Zhiyi hate him.
This was the only thing Chen Que, who was otherwise fearless like a lunatic, was afraid of.
He looked at the undisguised coldness and disgust on Wen Zhiyi’s face. An indescribable fear and agony twisted and pounded in his stomach like a sharp blade. The near-mad, collapsing pain in his chest and lungs caused the gland at the back of his neck to swell to the point of imminent rupture.
Perhaps in the next second, this Alpha would erupt in a pheromone waterfall comparable to a major disaster scene.
S-class Alpha and Omega pheromones are inherently violent and concentrated. No matter how deceptively rich and fragrant the scent seems, the essence is a highly dominant and oppressive physiological symbol. Once fully erupted and sweeping through, the entire apartment building’s hallway would not be spared.
Not only Chen Que but all involved parties would be taken to the police station for questioning. Big Wen and Little Wen’s home would also be forcibly sealed off and processed. Wen Zhiyi, aware of all the consequences, now just wanted to jump up and smack Chen Que’s forehead several times.
Wei Yuzhi, standing beside Wen Zhiyi, lowered his eyes, observing the flicker of emotions in the Beta’s gaze. His dark, thick eyebrows trembled slightly. He was waiting, waiting for this Beta to ask him for help.
Troubles caused by the ex should naturally be solved by the current partner.
He watched Wen Zhiyi’s expression calmly and composedly, though his initially relaxed stance had secretly tensed up.
As long as Wen Zhiyi speaks.
The tall Omega, with a solemn expression, stood with one hand in his pocket, looking straight at his partner. A strange confidence, stemming from the belief that he was needed again, suddenly swelled in his vigorously beating heart. He was almost eager to find a soft sign of weakness on Wen Zhiyi’s face.
As long as Wen Zhiyi—looks at him.
But the Beta didn’t look at him once.
Like wandering planets perpetually off-orbit in the cosmos, Wei Yuzhi’s gaze, which contained urgency within its calmness, never intersected with Wen Zhiyi’s line of sight. His young partner truly did not look over, not even once.
The deep-seated urgency and craving slowly subsided into cold disappointment. Wei Yuzhi was forced into an objective and calm detachment, coldly watching Wen Zhiyi walk toward Chen Que, stand in front of that infuriating, crazy Alpha, look up, and say:
“You are going to calm down, aren’t you?”
Wen Zhiyi mercilessly raised his arm and pressed it onto Chen Que’s already swollen and sweating neck. He stared into the Alpha’s red, disheveled eyes, using the unspoken, tacit action they shared two years ago to tell the Alpha: Calm down.
The sharp pain caused by the compression of his scent gland made a thin layer of sweat appear on Chen Que’s forehead. He docilely allowed Wen Zhiyi to touch his vulnerable neck. The Alpha’s ingrained aggression was carefully withdrawn; he was so adept at showing weakness and vulnerability that he hardly seemed like an S-class Alpha.
Chen Que cautiously looked down at Wen Zhiyi, raising his hand to cover the Beta’s hand on his neck. His slightly sweaty black hair made him look like a solid white rock covered in fissures, as if one light tap from Wen Zhiyi’s invisible small hammer would cause the rock to completely shatter.
Wen Zhiyi once firmly believed this, which is why he was so cautious, so precious about holding this hammer, feeling helpless toward this fragile yet powerful rock, eventually choosing not to carve, not to change. He was genuinely ready to accept this raw, stubborn stone.
Chen Que, completely unaware of Wen Zhiyi’s internal turmoil, was not satisfied just by cautiously covering the Beta’s hand. He nudged his swollen cheek, which Gu Yansheng had punched, with his tongue and whispered to Wen Zhiyi: “It hurts.”
“…”
If it hurts, endure it.
Wen Zhiyi forcibly suppressed the response that almost slipped out, silently choosing to ignore the gray progress bar next to Chen Que. After confirming there was no danger of the Alpha bursting out again, he unapologetically withdrew his hand, much to Chen Que’s disappointed expression.
He turned and smiled at Ning Meng: “Take your boss to the hospital. Prolonged delay will be bad for his brain… wait, for his scent gland.”
Ning Meng, who was directly facing Wen Zhiyi’s smile, swallowed weakly. Looking at the rumored beautiful ex-boyfriend, she suddenly realized the shallowness of the word “beautiful.”
Too floaty, too direct, too superficial.
Beautiful—what a shallow word.
She stared at Wen Zhiyi’s face and thought internally.
A sense that was almost religious, gently cold, gorgeously solemn, contradictory yet harmonious.
Texture.
Light and shadow.
Contour.
Flow.
Quality.
The Alpha lady, who considered herself an art worker, desperately wanted to take out the sketchbook she left in her studio. She felt she would never encounter such perfect lighting and composition again.
“What are you standing around for? Hurry up and take your boss to the hospital!” The young secretary irritably nudged Ning Meng, whose artistic thoughts were rapidly diverging. As a fellow worker of the boss, she had already sounded the alarm for Wei Yuzhi.
Ning Meng glared angrily at the Beta woman. Just as she was about to retort, she cautiously remembered the beating she took from Gu Yansheng earlier. What if this seemingly delicate Beta in front of her was also secretly skilled?
She was certain she couldn’t withstand a second flying kick, so she sullenly chose to shut up.
Gu Yansheng, who had been standing coldly by, seemed to finally remember the reason for his visit after Wen Zhiyi dealt with Chen Que. However, just as he was about to speak, Wen Zhiyi curtly ordered him to shut up: “Whatever you have to say, please keep it shut for now.”
After unceremoniously ordering Gu Yansheng, Little Wen turned to Wei Yuzhi and raised an eyebrow: “Why are you still standing here? Waiting for dinner?”
After unilaterally asserting his certainty of divorcing Wei Yuzhi, Little Wen’s attitude toward the Omega underwent a subtle change. He no longer viewed the other person as a hateful ex who needed to be vehemently resisted. He began to tell himself that this Omega was no different from others who had come and gone in his life.
Therefore, no special treatment is needed.
It’s just the Malice Value surging again, after all.
He had seen many people like this, so now—calm rationality was the most appropriate attitude.
Wei Yuzhi’s gaze finally succeeded in meeting Wen Zhiyi’s. He looked at those incredibly familiar dark eyes, certain that something was quietly shifting, and he rarely admitted to himself that he seemed helpless to stop it.
But if he were to surrender just like that, he wouldn’t be Wei Yuzhi.
All the burning arrogance and hidden pain in his eyes—his unwillingness to let go, to admit defeat, to bow down—were clearly displayed before Wen Zhiyi. But all the Beta could see was the Malice Value that had already peaked.
Wen Zhiyi maintained a calm, rational smile, watching the Malice Value next to Wei Yuzhi—surging vigorously, constantly pushing upwards even after hitting the maximum.
Crap. (A certain plant).
With the intention of making Chen Que and Gu Yansheng retreat in the face of difficulty, Wen Zhiyi had not denied Wei Yuzhi’s claim of being his husband, but this absolutely did not mean he still held any illusions about the relationship.
In the intense, stagnant silence, Wei Yuzhi slowly walked to within an arm’s length of Wen Zhiyi. The tall Omega, with his broad shoulders and back, was half a head taller than the young Beta. When he stood in front of Wen Zhiyi and looked down, he completely enveloped the Beta in his dark, dense shadow.
Under the oppressive height difference, Wen Zhiyi met Wei Yuzhi’s gaze calmly and coldly. His straight, deep, cold eye-tails were like long blades cutting into the flesh, severing all past softness and sweetness. He gently shook his head at the Omega looking down at him, saying easily and casually: “Don’t bother to see me out. I hope we won’t have to meet again before the day after tomorrow.”
“You hate me very much?” Wei Yuzhi raised his hand, intending to stroke a strand of hair that fell onto Wen Zhiyi’s forehead. This soft, clean strand of hair made the Beta look gentle and innocent, yet the words he spoke were all things Wei Yuzhi didn’t want to hear.
Wei Yuzhi lowered his voice and leaned in again: “I at least need to know why.”
Wen Zhiyi took a step back, dodging the extended finger. Realizing the strand of hair was still on his forehead, he casually smoothed it back, showing a rare sharpness—cold, clear, and meeting arrogance with defiance.
He calmly told Wei Yuzhi: “If you really can’t accept the fact that someone hates you and are always dwelling on it, then until the official divorce, I can pretend not to hate you. But you know what I think in my heart.”
Wei Yuzhi, finding this statement utterly absurd, gave a speechless laugh. He stepped forward again, closing in on Wen Zhiyi’s expressionless eyes, only stopping when he had pinned the Beta against the wall, finally giving up his pursuit.
Did Wen Zhiyi think he cared about being hated by others?
Wei Yuzhi lowered his head and stared intensely at Wen Zhiyi, asking coldly, through clenched teeth, word by word: “You think I care about being hated by others?”
Guess why I care that you hate me?
