- Chapter 3 - An Absurd Night with Someone
When Wen Ming saw that Liang Ling was starting to talk nonsense again, he impatiently clicked his tongue and said, “What Omega and Alpha are you babbling on about?”
Liang Ling looked at him in absolute shock and asked in bewilderment, “Aren’t you an Alpha?”
Three black lines dropped down Wen Ming’s forehead as his expression darkened. “I have no idea what you are talking about, but I am certainly not whatever Alpha you think I am.”
Liang Ling froze for a moment, but refused to give up just yet. He asked weakly, “But on you, there is this wonderful Longjing tea fragrance. Isn’t that pheromone scent…”
“Longjing fragrance?” Wen Ming paused for a split second, then chuckled. “Oh, that is because I drink tea all year round, so the clothes in my room have absorbed the tea scent.”
Hearing his explanation, Liang Ling felt a wave of disappointment, sitting dejectedly on the edge of the bed and biting his lower lip.
When Wen Ming shifted slightly, Liang Ling immediately looked at him with eager eyes, stubbornly tugging at the corner of his shirt and refusing to let go.
“What now? I can see your throat is hoarse from the fever, so I am going to get you some medicine.” Wen Ming looked at him in a way that was half-exasperated and half-amused. Only then did Liang Ling obediently let go of his hand.
Wen Ming worked out all year round and hardly fell sick throughout the entire year, so there was practically no medicine in the house. After searching for ages, he finally found a small blister pack of ibuprofen.
“Come on, open your mouth and take this.” Wen Ming handed him a cup of honey water, a single capsule resting in his palm.
Liang Ling was so sore all over that he could not even lift his arms, whimpering like a small cat. Wen Ming had no choice but to use a spoon to feed him the honey water sip by sip. Seeing that he had swallowed the pill, Wen Ming smiled lightly, “Do you feel a bit better?”
After taking the medicine, his stomach felt warm inside. Liang Ling finally felt that it was not quite as agonizing anymore, and he gathered all his strength to sit up, nearly tipping Wen Ming over the edge of the bed.
President Wen, who had been splashed in the face with honey water, had a complexion darker than the bottom of a pot.
“I am sorry!” Liang Ling hurriedly used his sleeve to wipe it off for him, but Wen Ming pushed him away in disgust and scolded angrily, “You didn’t even wash your hands before randomly touching my face.”
Liang Ling froze in place, his face flushing instantly. He looked like a child who had done something wrong and did not dare to speak a word.
What kind of mess is this? Wen Ming began to regret picking up a hot potato. He went to the bathroom to wash his face, and when he came back, he saw Liang Ling sitting nervously on the edge of the bed, watching him with cautious eyes.
“What else do you want?” Wen Ming asked, feeling as though he were facing a formidable enemy.
Liang Ling lowered his head in embarrassment, his earlobes flushed pink, and he softly pleaded in a small voice, “Could you stay and sleep with me for the night?”
Wen Ming almost thought he had misheard, his eyebrows twitching in anger. “I saved you, and you still want to sleep with me?”
“No, no, no…” Liang Ling hurriedly explained with a blushing face, feeling utterly ashamed. “No marking is needed. Just hold me for a bit will do.”
Wen Ming paused for a moment. Looking at his little face that looked as though it was about to cry, his heart softened somewhat.
After a long while, he finally gave in out of sheer helplessness. Forget it, since he had already decided to see a good deed through to the end.
“Come here then.” Wen Ming lifted the blanket, lay down on the bed, and gestured for Liang Ling to come over.
A pair of sparkling, pleasantly surprised eyes lit up on Liang Ling’s face as he obediently scooted over and nestled right into his embrace.
“Mm…” In a spot where Liang Ling could not see, the tips of Wen Ming’s ears also turned slightly red. For some reason, Liang Ling’s skin was much fairer and softer than that of ordinary men, and his entire body was soft and fragrant, smelling like refreshing summer peach juice bubbles.
The mighty President Wen, whose orientation was already bent completely straight, suddenly felt a touch of crisis.
Surrounded by the crisp Longjing fragrance radiating from Wen Ming’s body, Liang Ling’s heat period was immensely eased. However, his glands were still scorchingly hot, driving him to constantly rub and burrow against Wen Ming’s chest while the restless fever deep inside his heart still refused to subside.
Could it be that it was truly necessary to…
Liang Ling was startled by his own thought and, out of sheer embarrassment, hugged Wen Ming even tighter.
“Hey…” Wen Ming tapped him on the head with some helplessness. “Why are you hugging me so tightly?”
Only then did Liang Ling snap back to reality and hurriedly loosen his grip a bit. Wen Ming secretly breathed a sigh of relief, patted his shoulder, and said, “Go to sleep. Tomorrow I will take you to the police station; they should have a way to contact your family.”
Mesmerized and dizzy from his “pheromones,” Liang Ling gave a soft, milky “mm” in agreement, found a comfortable spot in his embrace, and slowly closed his eyes.
Wen Ming could not help but smile, poking his cheek. “Why are you acting just like a little cat?”
Liang Ling’s long eyelashes fluttered slightly as he unhappily muttered, “Mm, marking.”
“What?” Wen Ming leaned over, bringing his ear closer to listen. Liang Ling continued sleep-talking, “Glands, marking.”
What kind of nonsense is this!
It was a night of sweet dreams, though exclusively for Liang Ling.
Warm, golden sunlight streamed inside, dancing across Liang Ling’s flushed little face. His nose twitched slightly from a tickling sensation, and he slowly opened his eyes.
Reaching up to touch his forehead, he found he was hardly running a fever anymore.
Suddenly, a steady sound of breathing came from above his head. Liang Ling froze, only to realize that he was resting against a warm chest, a steady and powerful heartbeat thumping against his ear, clearly telling him that this man had held him in his arms and slept with him the entire night.
Liang Ling raised his head in a bit of panic, only to crash into a calm and handsome profile. His long eyelashes had a slight curl, his eye sockets were deep, and beneath a high-bridge nose, a pair of softly contoured thin lips were slightly parted.
He really looks good. Liang Ling praised sincerely. Even placed among the most outstanding batch of Alphas in the Empire, Wen Ming would not pale in comparison.
“Mm…” As if sensing Liang Ling’s scorching gaze, Wen Ming lifted one eyelid, rubbed his brow, and looking down at Liang Ling in his arms, said lazily, “How much longer are you going to hold me? My arm has gone numb from you pressing on it.”
Hearing him say that, Liang Ling uttered an “oh” and hurriedly scrambled off him, sitting obediently in place as he watched him.
Wen Ming sat up, rubbed his sore arm, glanced sideways at him, and asked, “Are you not feeling uncomfortable anymore?”
Liang Ling nodded. “Mm.”
Wen Ming let out a sigh of relief, feeling thoroughly unburdened. Now he could send the person away without a guilty conscience; after tossing and turning all night, he had done all that humanly possible.
Glancing at the wall clock, Wen Ming could not help frowning. It was already nearly ten o’clock. He had scheduled a meeting for eleven o’clock yesterday and needed to rush to the company right away, and there were still parts of the PowerPoint presentation he needed for the meeting that were not finished yet.
Thinking of this, Wen Ming picked up his wallet from the bedside table, pulled out a few bills, and handed them to Liang Ling. “Here is the deal. I have to head back to the company later, so I won’t be able to accompany you to the police station. You should go get something to eat first, and then take a taxi to the police station.”
Liang Ling froze for a moment, nodding with a trace of desolation as he answered with an “okay.”
Wen Ming smiled, got up to take a quick shower, and changed into a clean set of clothes. Saying “I am heading out” to Liang Ling, he reached for the door to leave, only for Liang Ling to suddenly hug him tightly from behind, causing him a flash of irritation: “Are you that needy?”
“No, it is not like that,” Liang Ling defended himself with a blushing face, sniffing hard at the scent around his neck and saying with disappointment, “How come it is gone?”
Wen Ming paused, furrowing his brow as he sniffed around himself. “What is gone?”
“The Longjing fragrance.” Liang Ling stared blankly at his face, looking somewhat aggrieved. “It turned into a lemon scent. I do not like it.”
Hearing that, the corners of Wen Ming’s lips curved into a smile. “That is the scent of the body wash. After I took a shower and changed my clothes, the Longjing fragrance naturally faded a bit.”
Liang Ling gave an “oh,” let go of him with a downcast expression, and apologized for his previous rude behavior: “I am sorry.”
Wen Ming nodded and said warmly, “It is fine. I am leaving.”
Liang Ling watched him walk downstairs, standing rooted to the spot with a deep sense of loss.
“Uncle Li,” Wen Ming murmured, resting his chin in his hand as he gazed out the car window. “Go and check out this Liang Ling.”
The driver in the front laughed. “I have already looked into it, Young Master. The subordinates always handle things very efficiently.”
Hearing this, Wen Ming put down his crossed legs and frowned. “And what did they find?”
Uncle Li fell silent for a moment and sighed. “It is very strange, Young Master. In City A, not a single person named Liang Ling matches Mr. Liang.”
Wen Ming was somewhat surprised by this result. Given how green and inexperienced the person was, he had assumed he was just a fresh college student stepping out into the world for the first time.
“How could that be?”
Uncle Li turned his head to glance back at him. “Young Master, this person’s background is unknown. Could he have been sent by the Old Master’s side?”
Wen Ming fell silent for a long while, his fingers rubbing the arm where Liang Ling had pressed a red mark the previous night, before shaking his head. “Probably not. Let him be.”
Uncle Li tightly pressed his lips together, looking somewhat hesitant. “As for Young Master Ye.”
Hearing the name Ye Wanqing, Wen Ming’s eyes darkened instantly, and he flatly stated, “My dad has that kind of temperament; he won’t stop until he achieves his goal, even scheming against his own biological son. Wanqing has suffered such heavy blows before and knows his temperament well. On this point, the two of us stand on the same side.”
Uncle Li let out a quiet sigh and nodded silently.
“Ding.” Wen Ming’s phone chimed with a message notification. He picked it up, took a look, and could not help frowning.
“Uncle Li, skip the company. Head back to Qianshan Manor.” Wen Ming irritably dismissed the message screen. “Tell them the meeting is moved to the afternoon.”
Uncle Li nodded silently and broadcasted the message via corporate WeChat.
The car slowly drove into a suburban estate. Surrounding it were babbling springs and lush trees, where a majestic villa stood quietly. A sense of foreboding surged in Wen Ming’s heart. When he pushed open the door and saw the two people sitting on the sofa, his face turned as dark as coal.
“Xiao Ming, why did you only just arrive? Come over and sit down.” Wen Qi greeted him with a smiling face, while beside him, a handsome man with pine-like poise was delicately tasting tea, lifting his gaze slightly to look at him.
Wen Ming twitched the corner of his mouth and retorted indifferently, “Does Young Master Ye not have training matches to play? Why does he still have the time to come to my house?”
Challenged by the question, Ye Wanqing slowly lifted that delicate face of his. Being of mixed heritage, his clear, sapphire-like eyes flickered slightly as his tone turned cold: “It is almost noon. The team’s training matches have already concluded.”
Wen Qi let out an unhappy tongue-click, his sword-like eyebrows raised in anger. “Is that any way to speak? Wasn’t it you who broke your promise first? I felt guilty toward Wanqing, which is why I invited him over to the house for tea. Who are you putting on that long face for?”
“Hah.” Wen Ming impatiently turned his face away. In this lifetime, he had never feared anyone in anything, except for taking massive stumbles right here at the hands of his own old man and Ye Wanqing, yet somehow, he could find no way to fight back.
Ye Wanqing had no wish to escalate matters into an awkward scene either, so he forced out a strained smile. “It is fine, Uncle. Wen Ming has just taken over Mingqi, so he has to worry about matters big and small. It is only natural that he is busy.”
Wen Ming gave him an expressionless look, handed his coat to the domestic helper, and headed upstairs without looking back.
“You brat, where do you think you are going?” Wen Qi roared in anger.
Wen Ming paused his steps, slowly turning his head back to leave Wen Qi with a cold, indifferent gaze. “Dad, if you are forcing us to reconcile purely for the sake of both families’ reputations, then I feel there is no need for that. After all, we have already broken up. From this point on, let us each live our own lives in peace and have nothing more to do with one another.”
