The Pampered Wife Has Decided to Divorce - Chapter 5
That posture of yours looks a lot like that pink flamingo.
Sang Li had never attended this kind of ostentatious, opulent charity gala before.
Before he got together with Jiang Xiucheng, he had been a completely ordinary, honest student. After being spirited away, Jiang Xiucheng kept a very tight rein on him, but because Sang Li loved spending money so much, he had hardly ever noticed this aspect of things before.
It was not until he accidentally ran into a college classmate a few days ago that his little Xiaohongshu app suddenly started pushing a lot of fresh, new videos to his feed.
Like clubs he had never been to before, bars, and there were even male strippers inside!
Sang Li wanted to see them so badly.
But he didn’t dare say it.
He only dared to think about it in secret.
People often yearn the most for the things they are forbidden to do, and as time went on, going to a bar to watch male strippers wearing bunny ears had officially become Sang Li’s ultimate dream.
What was his dream?
Right, it was to take advantage of Jiang Xiucheng being away on a business trip and stay up all night, watching male strippers for a whole night!
He had money!
Thinking of this, Sang Li stepped down on his high heels with even more vigor.
The charity gala hall was arranged inside a suburban French-style manor belonging to the Jiang family. Right next to it was a golf course specially built for these wealthy scions, equipped with all kinds of food, drinks, and entertainment, truly quite extravagant.
The two of them first sent Jiang Yun home to study, and immediately afterward, their car drove smoothly into the depths of a red-brick alley.
City H was quite an elegant city, after all. Long-term foreign trade brought economic commerce to the city while also blending many cultures together. Especially for a century-old family like the Jiang family, they often possessed their own dedicated, bespoke tailoring masters and teams.
Jiang Xiucheng exceptionally disliked outsiders touching even a single hair on Sang Li’s body.
And he was even less willing to let outsiders catch a glimpse of even half his secrets.
Unfortunately, Sang Li had a hard time grasping the mindset of a gloomy, brooding mastermind.
He was naturally exceptionally slender, didn’t like putting on weight, and due to malnutrition in his childhood, he hadn’t grown very tall either. In fact, back in college, he was frequently roped in to cross-dress as a woman for department stage play performances.
In his four years of college, Sang Li had played Snow White three times, Rose twice, and Zhen Huan once, a stellar, verifiable combat record.
The veteran tailoring master who used to make clothes for Jiang Xiucheng back in the day came over to help Sang Li adjust his dress. While working, he spoke in their local dialect: “Little handsome, when you sit down, you must keep your legs pressed together, you know? That’s the only way to have real style.”
Sang Li poked his head out to check himself out in the mirror.
One word.
Absolute perfection!
No wonder Jiang Xiucheng loved him so much.
Even he was about to fall in love with himself.
The veteran master tied the butterfly knot around Sang Li’s waist, fished out a wig from the nearby cabinet, and popped it onto Sang Li’s head: “Oof, isn’t that gorgeous, so chic!”
That was probably meant as a compliment.
Sang Li actually couldn’t understand the local dialect around Jiang Xiucheng’s side very well; every time he went back with him to his mother’s side, he essentially entered an ear-off-duty state.
Cosmetics were neatly laid out right in front of the mirror.
Sang Li picked them up to touch up his face, and just as he was about to apply his lipstick, Jiang Xiucheng walked in from outside.
“Where did you go?”
“I asked Jiang Zhi to add a few dishes you like.”
“Oh oh.”
Although he didn’t know who Jiang Zhi was, Sang Li never stood on ceremony: “Then tell him to hurry up and have them delivered from those few shops I love. They need to be warm; cold food doesn’t taste good. Hurry up, I’m hungry.”
No answer.
Curious, Sang Li turned his head and saw Jiang Xiucheng staring at him unblinkingly: “What are you doing?”
Jiang Xiucheng smiled.
He strode over, reached out, and gave Sang Li’s nose a flick: “Little spoiled brat.”
Since when was he a spoiled brat?!
Sang Li swatted Jiang Xiucheng’s hand away: “Nonsense, I just got my contouring done.”
The old tailor laughed out loud: “Little Master Sang, you must absolutely not speak at the banquet, otherwise you’ll give yourself away, you hear? Alright, let me finish fixing your makeup first.”
“I’ll do it.”
Jiang Xiucheng seamlessly blocked him with a hand, taking the lipstick Sang Li had just picked up: “Lift your chin.”
Sang Li cooperatively raised his head.
His position happened to be just right for reaching out to hug Jiang Xiucheng’s waist, so he reached up and hugged him, mischievously poking and searching up and down inside Jiang Xiucheng’s pockets.
Huh, there’s something in here.
What is it?
Sang Li fished out a piece of slightly soft fabric from Jiang Xiucheng’s pocket, feeling that the texture was somewhat familiar. Just as he was about to pull it out to look, his hand was abruptly pinned down by Jiang Xiucheng.
“Don’t mess around.”
Jiang Xiucheng’s voice was a bit taut: “Careful you don’t smudge the lipstick.”
“Oh.” Sang Li couldn’t overpower Jiang Xiucheng’s strength, his little mouth chattering away: “Then what’s in your pocket?”
“A handkerchief.”
How boring.
Rich and pretentious people like them actually loved keeping a handkerchief tucked inside their coats.
Sang Li had seen that in TV shows too. He pouted, gave up on exploring, and instead remembered something else: “Oh right, hubby, you remember to buy me new underwear? Every time you wash my underwear, it gets lost so easily. Could it be that you hung it on the balcony and it blew away in the wind?”
Jiang Xiucheng: “Quite possible.”
He leisurely reached out and smoothed over Sang Li’s lips, wiping away any excess color: “I’ve had Jiang Zhi prepare the food for you. Once we go into the banquet hall later, be a good boy and wait for me. Don’t run around and don’t talk, understood?”
“I promise!”
Sang Li puffed out his chest and followed along in high spirits.
Traffic leaving the city during rush hour was a bit heavy.
By the time Jiang Xiucheng brought Sang Li there, it was actually much later than the official start time of the gala.
Yet the moment they stepped inside, Sang Li noticed that everyone was waiting for Jiang Xiucheng to arrive, and they quickly swarmed over to greet him.
“We’ve finally waited for Chairman Jiang! Welcome, what an honor!”
“What are you saying? Chairman Jiang just got back today. No more words, let me toast President Jiang first!”
“I’ve never seen Chairman Jiang bring a female companion before. She’s so pretty, which family’s young heiress is she?”
“Chairman Jiang, I happened to want to consult with you about that plot of land in the south of the city.”
Sang Li: “Sigh.”
Is this a charity gala?
Is it a charity gala or a bootlicking gala, ugh.
And why did he have to wear ten-centimeter high heels, oh heavens, Lily hates you!
Sang Li pointed at a cake and then looked at Jiang Xiucheng.
Because there were too many people around, Jiang Xiucheng couldn’t openly stop him. He could only watch as Sang Li slipped away smoothly like a little mudfish, drilling out of the crowd in the blink of an eye to throw himself into the embrace of the tea break area.
Still, the food tasted pretty good.
Sang Li quickly realized that Jiang Xiucheng hadn’t lied to him; several of his favorite dishes were laid out on the table, and they were actually still warm.
This allowed him to experience a rare, tiny bit of warmth amidst the sea of sycophancy.
Sang Li ate his way from the eastern end to the western end, from the north side to the south side, tasting and sampling all the tea break items with a tremendous sense of banquet participation, accompanied by two glasses of fruit juice and one glass of fruit wine.
The crowd surrounding Jiang Xiucheng remained endless.
Well-fed and satisfied, Sang Li began to feel bored. He found a breezy balcony corner, leaned against the back of a chair, and prepared to play a mobile game.
No internet.
You’ve got to be kidding me.
Don’t rich people need the internet?
Shocked, Sang Li turned his phone off and back on again, and even pulled out his SIM card to reinsert it, completely useless.
Still no internet.
Sang Li was done for.
Lily has regrets.
Knowing it would be like this, he might as well have stayed home and begged Jiang Yun to play Honor of Kings with him; he probably would have ranked up by tonight. Oh dear.
Looking deeply aggrieved, Sang Li squatted down behind the chair, curled up into a tiny, pitiful ball. Since he couldn’t do anything else, he distressedly plucked at the rabbit ears on his phone case while chanting like a monk: “Internet, internet, internet, internet, internet.”
“It’s useless.”
A brisk, youthful voice came from behind him.
“To prevent anyone from taking secret photos or live streaming, they’ve installed signal jammers here.”
Sang Li: “Oh!”
Oh no!
Someone heard him talking!
Yet his voice hadn’t been that loud just now. Sang Li didn’t dare to be sure whether the person behind him had actually noticed anything.
He decided to play dumb.
The person who had been standing at the door just a moment ago stepped forward and walked in.
He had a tall stature. Perhaps because Sang Li was sitting down, the person looked even taller.
And young.
Nineteen? Or in his early twenties?
Like a college student who had never been beaten down by society yet.
Even at this time of year, City H’s winter still carried a hint of chill, but the buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned two down from the lapels, revealing a sturdy patch of chest.
Hmph.
Just a show-off.
With disdain, Sang Li kept his mouth tightly shut.
“Why aren’t you talking?”
The young man with long legs sat down on the chair right in front of Sang Li, his tone cheerful: “You’re wearing a dress, aren’t you? If you don’t sit down properly and squat there like that, won’t it be a bit uncomfortable?”
Sang Li: “Humph.”
Who would have thought someone would come to such an out-of-the-way spot?
Silently, Sang Li closed his legs together and stubbornly kept quiet.
The young man continued: “Do you want to play Honor of Kings? I can carry you. I’ve already reached the highest rank, and I’ve been at the highest rank for two months now, you know.”
Get lost.
Get lost.
Sang Li glared resentfully at the young man.
The chair the young man was sitting on happened to block his path back. If he could, he really wished he could flykick this guy straight down into the swimming pool below.
“You’re the one Brother Jiang brought along, huh?”
Without feeling awkward in the least about talking to himself, the guy was exceptionally chatty and dense: “He never seems to bring anyone to this kind of occasion. What’s your relationship with him?”
Sang Li: “Quiet.”
Truly unbelievable.
How did this person manage to make every single sentence make people want to hit him more than the last?
To maintain his final shred of cultivation, Sang Li decided to space out and gaze at the stars.
Night had already fallen deep.
The daytime smog of City H didn’t seem quite as obvious at this hour, and when looking closely, one could even spot a few solitary, twinkling stars.
Sang Li’s neck grew sore from looking up.
“Has anyone ever told you that your posture looks a lot like that pink flamingo?”
Sang Li: “Argh!”
Damn it!
How could someone keep on provoking him like this?
“Does that make your neck grow longer? But your neck is already plenty slender.”
Sang Li: “Silence.”
Sang Li was already exhausted.
The hardships he had eaten tonight were already more than all the hardships he had endured throughout all these years of marriage with Jiang Xiucheng combined.
He would remember tonight.
“Are you really not going to talk?”
The young man suddenly spoke up: “Usagi…”
Sang Li: “Present!”
The young man: “Oh.”
Sang Li: “Sigh.”
Damn it!
He really shouldn’t have browsed Xiaohongshu so much!
Sang Li already had the urge to pick up a knife.
Across from him, the young man suddenly chuckled.
The rippling night breeze blew over, fluttering the young man’s white shirt and exuding an exceptionally youthful and clean vibe.
“My name is Jiang Zhi.”
The young man said: “Sang Li, it’s our first-time meeting as far as you’re concerned, but I know you.”
