- Chapter 4 - Darling, a Reward for the Baby Tonight
The car Jiang Xiucheng sent to pick up Sang Li was a global limited-edition stretch model. The color of its starlight ceiling differed from ordinary models, and it ran much quieter on the road.
As soon as Sang Li got into the car, Jiang Yun sidled up beside him. “Daddy, my classmates were all watching you outside just now. They said you are truly prettier than a big celebrity, and they even wanted to ask if you could give them an autograph?”
“No.”
Jiang Xiucheng coldly answered the question for Sang Li. “Children should sit in the front child safety seat by themselves.”
Jiang Yun shook his head slightly. “I want to sit with Daddy.”
Jiang Xiucheng raised his eyelids and glanced at Jiang Yun.
He possessed an overwhelmingly powerful aura, and though his rare patience was entirely reserved for Sang Li, he appeared increasingly strict when it came to grooming his heir.
At the end of the day, Jiang Yun was somewhat afraid of him, so he shrank back slightly, though his hand still carefully held onto Sang Li’s.
Sang Li then kissed Jiang Yun’s little cheek. “It is fine, zai-zai. Go sit in the front for now. Tonight Daddy will sleep with you, okay?”
“Really?”
“Really!”
Jiang Yun sniffed pitifully, and his small body obediently moved to the front.
Immediately following that, a strong force swept over, pulling Sang Li by the waist back into the rear seat, where he tumbled clumsily into Jiang Xiucheng’s arms.
The back of this vehicle was exceptionally spacious, even equipped with a centrally located entertainment system.
Jiang Xiucheng pressed a button somewhere near his hand, and the soundproof partition in the car slowly rose from behind the entertainment system, completely separating Jiang Yun in the front from the two of them.
“Daddy!”
Before the partition closed completely, Sang Li still heard Jiang Yun’s tender, slightly anxious voice.
Sang Li: “What is it?”
Sang Li, who was starting to get angry, struggled for a long time but failed to break free from Jiang Xiucheng’s embrace. “What are you doing?”
With one hand, Jiang Xiucheng kneaded Sang Li’s waist casually, while his other hand grabbed Sang Li’s left hand, interlocked their fingers, and pulled it upward, slowly rolling it in from the edge of his clothes.
Sang Li froze. “Don’t do that.”
“I’m not doing it.”
Jiang Xiucheng leaned in and brushed against him, his high, straight bridge of the nose pressing inch by inch against Sang Li’s exposed skin as his voice turned somewhat husky. “I need to check if there is the scent of any other wild men on you.”
Winter had not yet faded, and the air conditioning was already running in the car.
Jiang Xiucheng’s scorching breath made Sang Li shiver. “No. I don’t have any.”
He wouldn’t be let off that easily.
Jiang Xiucheng’s canine teeth bit down on a patch of skin at the back of his neck, rubbing against it repeatedly, while his well-articulated hand guided Sang Li on a dangerous wander. “Did those old fogeys on the board of directors see you cry?”
The man’s broad shoulders and back almost completely enveloped the person in his arms, yet if one listened closely, soft, delicate sounds could be heard amidst the seemingly calm scene.
He was trying hard to defend himself.
“No. I didn’t let them see.”
Within the faint sounds, the illusory patter of water seemed to mingle once more.
Jiang Xiucheng simply scooped Sang Li onto his lap, his gaze turning dark and gloomy at an angle where no one could see. “What about the professor from that lecture? Did he try to seduce you?”
“No! Oh.”
The graceful curve of Sang Li’s swan-white neck suddenly arched upward, and tears welled up in those eyes, which were ten thousand times prettier than the starlight ceiling.
His gaze went blank for a fraction of a second, and then his entire body slumped forward powerlessly, only to be caught back into Jiang Xiucheng’s arms and showered with soothing kisses.
“Hubby.”
A faint flush still lingered on Sang Li’s face, and his voice was strained.
In the midst of repetitive experiences, people tend to form certain habitual routines.
For instance, the aftercare during times like this usually required a long period of soothing before Sang Li could recover.
Jiang Xiucheng harbored a morbid preference for moments like these.
Holding him, the man asked slowly, “Does the baby love hubby or Jiang Yun the most?”
Sang Li was still somewhat dazed. “I love zai-zai.”
“That is wrong. The baby loves hubby the most.”
Jiang Xiucheng bit the tip of Sang Li’s ear. “Say you love hubby the most.”
Sang Li blinked, and after a moment, he said, “I love hubby the most.”
“Good boy, a reward for the baby tonight.”
Jiang Xiucheng was still holding Sang Li’s hand with their fingers interlaced; his hand was almost twice the size of Sang Li’s.
He touched Sang Li’s fingers to his lips, then reached out to straighten Sang Li’s clothes, which had gotten somewhat disheveled. When his hand reached the waist and abdomen, his movements paused slightly.
Sang Li followed his line of sight downward. There was a scar from a suture line that was almost entirely faded away.
Jiang Xiucheng looked at it for a moment, then suddenly said, “If I had known, I shouldn’t have let one more person come to steal your attention.”
It took Sang Li a few seconds to process the meaning behind Jiang Xiucheng’s words.
With a stern expression, he immediately corrected him, “Zai-zai is a good kid, you are not allowed to say that!”
“Darling, I hate anyone in this world who competes for your attention.”
Jiang Xiucheng kissed the tip of Sang Li’s chin and conceded, “I only barely tolerate him because he carries your blood.”
Jiang Xiucheng added, “However, you are not allowed to sleep with him tonight. You must sleep with me.”
Sang Li: “Are you serious?”
Even if ten hours of sleep could be guaranteed during the day, Sang Li did not want to be tossed around every single night!
Yet passive resistance was useless. Having been raised in the lap of luxury by Jiang Xiucheng since his university days, he was completely sheltered and had long since grown accustomed to this lifestyle.
Just as he decided to give up, Jiang Xiucheng’s phone rang.
Sang Li was right in Jiang Xiucheng’s arms and heard it crystal clear.
It was a call from Berry, the chief assistant: “Director Jiang, Young Master Jiang and CEO Zou organized a charity bazaar banquet and asked if you are free tonight, saying it is just right to welcome you back.”
Jiang Xiucheng said, “I’宁 not free.”
Berry hesitated slightly. “Director Jiang, the others are easy to deal with, but CEO Zou is about to enter an arranged marriage with your younger sister, and coupled with Young Master Jiang’s side.”
Sang Li clutched Jiang Xiucheng’s collar and furiously mouthed words: “Go! Go! I want to go play! I’ve never been to one!”
Jiang Xiucheng: “Why should I?”
Jiang Xiucheng refused to budge.
Paying him no mind, Sang Li grabbed his suit sleeve and pulled the phone down to himself. “Berry, I agree, I am going, we are both going!”
Berry: “Who is this?”
Berry: “This? Director Jiang?”
Jiang Xiucheng curved the corner of his lips into a smile. He glanced sideways at Sang Li and said, “Then let’s go. Tell them I will arrive in an hour.”
Now Sang Li was finally happy.
Sitting on Jiang Xiucheng’s lap with his hands on his hips, the oppressed peasant rising up to sing revolutionary songs, he gestured and poked at the man’s nose. “Tell me, do you often sneak out to play behind my back, and every time you go out you never take me with you? I haven’t had a social life since college!”
“What is so fun about a charity banquet?”
Jiang Xiucheng supported Sang Li’s waist to help him sit steadily, then said with leisurely composure, “Does the baby not know whether I went out to play every night?”
Sang Li: “I do not!”
“You used to go out before too!”
Sang Li persisted relentlessly. “I don’t care, I want to go out and play from now on, and you are not allowed to control me!”
Jiang Xiucheng’s gaze darkened. “No.”
Sang Li said, “I want to.”
“There are a lot of bad people out there, darling.”
Jiang Xiucheng pressed his index finger against Sang Li’s crimson lips. “If you sneak out to play by yourself, they will run off with you, and I will be very worried.”
Sang Li let out a huff, crawled down from Jiang Xiucheng’s lap, and sat on the other side of the rear seat. After thinking for a moment, he said, “But I really want to go out and play.”
The endless stream of neon lights outside the window swept across the car glass, leaving mottled shadows on his crow-feather-like eyelashes, making his facial features look all the more stunning.
“There was one time when I was shopping and bumped into my college roommate, and he even asked why I had left the class group chat.”
Sang Li said glumly, “I was about to add him back as a friend, but right then a bodyguard came over to talk to me, and as soon as he finished, the roommate said we would add each other next time and left because he had something to do.”
Sang Li’s shoes had just been taken off, and his slender, fair feet were placed on Jiang Xiucheng’s lap. “Hubby, did I do something wrong?”
“Of course not. It is their problem.”
Jiang Xiucheng put the socks back on Sang Li, picked up his shoes to put them on him, and tied a perfectly symmetrical bow. “Back then, your college class group chats did nothing all day except discuss eating, drinking, and having fun, and they always wanted to drag you out to bars and use your face to get free bills.”
There was a condescending disdain in Jiang Xiucheng’s tone.
He concealed a flash of fleeting contempt and scorn. “Now that so many years have passed, who can guarantee he wasn’t intentionally waiting for you on that street?”
The corners of Jiang Xiucheng’s lips curved upward as he coaxed him in a low voice, “The baby is so smart, you would certainly not fall for his tricks, hmm?”
Sang Li felt that he was indeed very smart.
Yet he was still unhappy.
After a moment.
Sang Li suddenly said, “I feel a bit unfree.”
He lowered his eyes. “I don’t have any friends, nor do I have a career. Every day, aside from sleeping with you, I just buy things. But I already have all the limited and custom editions, and the celebrities I wanted to see I’ve already met. It is so boring.”
Sang Li rubbed his eyes in a daze. “Jiang Xiucheng. Is this how everyone who gets married is?”
The car drove past a traffic light.
The bright light on Sang Li’s side and the dimness on Jiang Xiucheng’s side alternated in stripes, obscuring the man’s exceptionally gloomy expression.
The lights inside the car lit up again.
Jiang Xiucheng leaned over, kissed Sang Li’s temple, and said softly, “It is my fault for not noticing the baby’s needs and making the baby so unhappy.”
The kiss moved downward from his temple.
Jiang Xiucheng said, “However, going out alone is too dangerous. From now on, wherever you want to go, I will take you, okay?”
Sang Li widened his eyes. “Even bars?”
“You want to go?”
“Mm.”
“I will consider it, depending on the baby’s behavior.”
Sang Li hadn’t expected to persuade Jiang Xiucheng all at once, so he retreated to a secondary option. “Then can I go out by myself in the future? Without bodyguards.”
This time Jiang Xiucheng nodded. “But you must tell hubby in advance where you are going, and only twice a week.”
“And also.”
Sang Li was kissed until he was slightly breathless, and he pursed his lips. “Can I open a Xiaohongshu account?”
Jiang Xiucheng frowned slightly. “Why?”
Naturally, Sang Li was too embarrassed to tell Jiang Xiucheng that his vanity was acting up.
Much less admit that he had seen many internet creators post things online that were far inferior to his own yet garnered heaps of praise and envy, so he wanted to do it too. Doing so would make him seem so ridiculous.
Hesitantly, Sang Li said, “Because I see that a lot of people online want to see real-life pictures of the limited editions you buy me. I am very kind-hearted, so I want to take pictures to show them.”
“So that is how it is.”
Jiang Xiucheng saw right through Sang Li’s little trick without exposing him. “Since the baby is so kind, can you be a little kind-hearted to hubby as well?”
Sang Li said, “What is it?”
“Everyone at tonight’s charity banquet is required to bring a female companion.”
Jiang Xiucheng leaned close to Sang Li’s ear and said in a low voice, “I do not have a female companion, so I can only trouble the baby.”
