The Only Ultimate Alpha in the Universe - Chapter 28
The morning classes ended with several students feeling as though they were sitting on pins and needles.
After finishing lunch at the cafeteria, Xiao Sa headed to the mecha maintenance base as was his habit. Aside from the first day when he ran into the top student, Feng Yu, he had not seen him at all over the past few days.
To his surprise, he bumped into him the moment he entered the base today.
It was not just Feng Yu; Xiao Sa also spotted several familiar faces. It was Kaman’s group of idle, good-for-nothing tagalongs.
Xiao Sa walked over unhurriedly. Folding his arms, he leaned against his mecha and watched the cliché drama unfold with cold, silent eyes.
Kaman and his group of young socialites had their backs turned to Xiao Sa, surrounding Feng Yu in the center. They had not noticed Xiao Sa’s arrival at all, or perhaps they simply chose to ignore him.
“You cannot possibly be unaware of which families invested in the construction of this maintenance base and the training grounds next door, right?” Kaman sneered. “We are just asking you to help us complete today’s training tasks. It would only take a few hours for someone like you.”
Feng Yu replied coldly, “I have my own training tasks to complete. I do not have time to do yours. Besides, do you not all have your own bodyguards?”
Kaman shoved his hands into his pockets and tilted his chin up. “Do not think we have not noticed you eyeing our mechas every day, secretly sitting inside them under the guise of maintenance. We are being generous by not charging you rent; consider this just a bit of interest.”
“We specifically want the top-ranked student of Class B to do our training tasks for us.”
Feng Yu frowned, realizing these guys were intentionally looking for trouble. He explained, “I have not been using your mechas. I was just curious and looked at them for a while. If you do not like it, I will not maintain your mechas in the future.”
Kaman let out a cold laugh. He despised people like Feng Yu, who were aloof and pretentious on the surface but looked down on everyone in their hearts. By what right did a commoner from a low-tier planet look down on him?
Combined with the inexplicable embarrassment he had suffered in class earlier that day, his mood was foul.
“If you want to continue your work-study program here, you had better behave.”
Feng Yu felt stifled, but he stiffened his neck and shook his head in refusal. These guys, born with silver spoons and monopolizing resources, still insisted on bullying others.
He clenched his fists, itching to give them a thorough beating. However, at the thought that injuring them might result in his expulsion, he hesitated.
Just as Feng Yu found himself in a dilemma, his spiritual entity took flight uncontrollably. The Woodpecker assumed an aggressive stance, spreading its wings and letting out sharp, piercing cries.
For some reason, his spiritual entity had been calm for several days after meeting Xiao Sa, only to be triggered into a frenzy again today.
Seeing that Feng Yu had not only disobeyed but dared to summon his spiritual entity in resistance, Kaman immediately summoned his own. His companions behind him followed suit.
Kaman’s spiritual entity was a Red Hawk with piercing eyes and sharp talons. He possessed Double-A rank spiritual power, and the Red Hawk was a natural predator of the Woodpecker among avian spiritual entities. Most of his companions also possessed A-rank spiritual power.
Just as the atmosphere reached a breaking point, the spiritual entities suddenly felt a massive sense of crisis descending upon them.
Kaman’s hawk, highly sensitive to danger, let out a warning cry and immediately spread its wings to fly toward the source of the attack signal. However, it slammed headfirst into an invisible wall. Its head was spinning so hard it nearly tumbled from mid-air.
Kaman was stunned. “What is going on?”
Xiao Sa stepped out from behind the silver-white mecha. He was dressed in white casual clothes, wearing his usual black mask. He casually pulled back his white hood, revealing deep-set eyes beneath his bangs that watched the group with nonchalance.
Kaman was suspicious. Was this not the new transfer student in their class?
Was a mere C-rank spiritually disabled person trying to play the hero? Still, he could not disregard Admiral Landis’s reputation.
“This is none of your business,” Kaman said impatiently. “Stay out of it.”
Xiao Sa raised his right hand. A tiny, translucent silver-white needle of spiritual energy flipped nimbly between his slender fingers.
With his index and middle fingers pressed together, he traced a slight arc in the air. The silver needle shot out instantly, sharply pricking the fluffy backside of Kaman’s Red Hawk.
Caught off guard, Kaman let out a yelp of pain. He looked at Xiao Sa with a mix of shock and rage. “So you were the one playing pranks in class!”
His companions glared at Xiao Sa, and some even instinctively covered their own backsides.
“What does this kid think he is doing? Does he think he can ignore other nobles just because he has the Admiral backing him?”
Xiao Sa stood his ground with his arms crossed, looking down at Kaman. He spoke slowly, “Instead of attending class properly, you are here bullying a little kid. It seems the sting was not painful enough?”
Kaman’s neck turned red with anger. “The Lott family is not to be trifled with!”
He gestured to a companion beside him. “We will not all gang up on a disabled person. You go and teach him the rules for newcomers.”
Xiao Sa pulled his usual gloves from his pocket and put them on, cracking the knuckles of his right wrist. Suddenly remembering something, he asked, “You guys are at least 20 this year, right? I would not want anyone saying I am picking on children.”
The companion’s spiritual entity was a Gray Wolf. It pawed at the ground and lunged at Xiao Sa with bared claws.
Instead of showing fear, Xiao Sa flashed a meaningful smile.
Invisible, intangible aggressive pheromones transformed into sharp blades, swirling around Xiao Sa like a vortex.
As the Gray Wolf drew near, its fur began to tremble from the sheer pressure. In its vision, it did not see a terrified prey, but a hunter waiting for it to walk into a trap filled with blades.
Lately, Xiao Sa had been frequently sharing spiritual entities with Landis. He discovered that if his spiritual power level completely suppressed the opponent, he could even forcibly connect with their spiritual entity.
This move was highly damaging and even more insulting. The Gray Wolf had just become his first test subject.
The Gray Wolf’s movements suddenly stiffened. It was like a puppet on a string. Its limbs no longer felt like its own. It screeched to a halt right in front of Xiao Sa, spun around, and lunged fiercely at Kaman’s Red Hawk, ripping out a mouthful of feathers before the hawk could react.
“Bayer, are you crazy? How dare you attack me!”
Kaman glared at Bayer in fury, while the latter shook his head frantically, looking completely wronged. “It was not me!”
On the other side, Xiao Sa manipulated the Gray Wolf to strike everywhere. It bit the Red Hawk and then nipped at the spiritual entities of the others one by one. Soon, the spiritual entities were locked in a chaotic brawl.
Before Kaman could scold his companion, his vision went dark. He looked up to find that Xiao Sa had somehow rushed to his side.
Xiao Sa raised his right hand, clad in a black glove, and clenched it into a fist.
In the next moment, Kaman felt like his head was flying. More accurately, his body spun 180 degrees in the air, tracing an elegant arc before slamming face-first onto the ground in a sprawling X shape.
A dizzy, disoriented Kaman: “?”
Xiao Sa wiped a thumb across the corner of his mouth and let out a tsk.
Though these guys possessed A-rank spiritual power or higher, they were pampered at home and rarely underwent physical training. Compared to Xiao Sa, the difference in strength was like that of a three-year-old versus a grown man.
To Feng Yu’s absolute bewilderment, Xiao Sa had the group of socialites sprawling on the ground and wailing in just ten minutes. Their spiritual entities were like primary schoolers on their first day, huddling in a corner and trembling.
Xiao Sa casually rolled his wrist and looked down at them. “Warm up is over. You can leave now.”
This was a total humiliation.
Kaman shot Xiao Sa a venomous look, recalled his spiritual entity, and scrambled out of the base with his disheveled companions.
Feng Yu gazed at Xiao Sa with a complex expression, waiting for him to speak. However, Xiao Sa said nothing. He turned around, climbed into his silver mecha, and began his daily basic training.
He was progressing at a lightning pace. With his exceptional talent, he could already perform basic maneuvers quite decently.
After standing silently for a while, Feng Yu finally spoke. “You did not have to help me. You have offended these noble heirs. Even if you are Admiral Landis’s partner, they will find ways to make your life miserable at school.”
The mecha’s cockpit canopy turned transparent, revealing Xiao Sa’s surprised face. “I did not help you. I simply felt like teaching them a lesson.”
Feng Yu’s Woodpecker took flight again, circling the silver mecha twice before landing on the transparent cockpit window. It pecked gently at the glass, attempting to squeeze inside.
Feng Yu awkwardly recalled his bird. It was strange; it usually avoided strangers. Ever since meeting Xiao Sa last time, it had inexplicably taken a liking to him.
To break the awkwardness, he quickly asked, “I heard your spiritual power rank is not high and you do not have a spiritual entity. How did you manage to knock them all down just now?”
Xiao Sa replied lazily from the cockpit, “Spiritual power rank does not determine everything. Strength and combat techniques are also important.”
Feng Yu nodded thoughtfully, then looked at him with pity. What a shame he was disabled.
Xiao Sa suddenly asked, “Why is your spiritual entity in such poor condition at such a young age?”
Feng Yu lowered his gaze. “I came from a low-tier planet where spiritual pollution is extremely severe. I did not have the money to buy high-concentration suppressants. Besides, a military academy has much higher pollution levels than ordinary universities.”
Xiao Sa gave an oh and jumped out of the cockpit.
He fished a finger-sized tube of suppressant from his pocket and handed it over. “In that case, I will exchange this suppressant for your tutoring time. I want to rapidly improve my practical mecha operation skills.”
B-rank high-concentration suppressant?
Feng Yu was startled and took it hesitantly. “I mean, I can, but mecha piloting is not something that can be mastered overnight.”
He thought to himself that he had seen many noble children like Xiao Sa who had a three-minute passion. They usually could not stand the hardship of training and would grow lazy over time just like the others.
Xiao Sa said, “It will not take long. I am participating in the grade-level combat matches next month. I only need a month of your time.”
The top student’s eyes widened, and he looked at Xiao Sa with utter speechlessness. “Do not underestimate mecha piloting. You are just a beginner. It is impossible to participate in the grade-level matches in one month. You will only lose miserably!”
He worried that Xiao Sa’s confidence would be so crushed that he would never return to the training room.
Xiao Sa’s expression remained unruffled. He nodded casually. “I know.”
Feng Yu felt helpless. Whatever, why am I worried? He will learn to back down once he sees the reality.
The Next Day
As usual, Xiao Sa headed to the mecha training grounds. He walked along the long corridor connecting the training grounds and the maintenance base, sunlight filtering through the glass and landing at his feet.
He had one hand in his pocket and held his class notes in the other, a gentle breeze seeming to follow him as he walked.
A moment later, he stopped and looked at the heads peeking out from the shadows ahead. He clicked his tongue and walked over slowly. Sure enough, Kaman had brought a large group of bodyguards to block the path.
“Knew you would show up here. Did acting like a hero feel good yesterday?”
Kaman cracked his knuckles, glaring coldly at him before signaling to the men behind him. The bodyguards immediately began to surround Xiao Sa.
Other students passing through the corridor saw this and hurried away with varying expressions. No one wanted to offend the second young master of the Lott family.
Xiao Sa raised an eyebrow and pointed a finger at his own cheek, looking puzzled. “Did you not apply a cold compress when you got back yesterday? It is still swollen.”
Mockery. It was absolute, blatant mockery.
Kaman nearly coughed up blood from rage. Did this guy have no sense of shame? He had actually been beaten until his face swelled by a C-rank spiritual cripple. He had applied compresses all night, yet the swelling would not go down. He had been forced to lie and say he was stung by a wasp to avoid further embarrassment.
This guy was just asking for a beating.
Kaman gritted his teeth. He had originally intended just to warn Xiao Sa not to think the Lott family was an easy target, or else he would only bring shame to Admiral Landis, and the Admiral would not take kindly to that.
“Do not underestimate him just because he only has C-rank spiritual power. His martial arts are very strong. Be careful. All of you, go! Pin him to the ground! I am going to make him apologize to me!” Kaman snarled.
Xiao Sa shook his head helplessly. “Why do you never learn? You just got your left cheek slapped yesterday, and today you are holding out the right one.”
Seeing the other’s enthusiasm, he silently pulled out his debate gloves.
Kaman and his group had thought Xiao Sa used some sort of trickery yesterday and that they had only lost because they were careless. Today, they brought over a dozen professional combat bodyguards. Finally, they proved with their actual strength that they were truly pathetic in front of Xiao Sa.
Kaman, whose right cheek was now also swollen by Xiao Sa, stared in shock and silence at the bodyguards littering the floor.
His companion, Bayer, pulled at his sleeve with a miserable face. “Maybe we should stop messing with him? This guy is weird. Our intel might be wrong. He might not be a C-rank.”
Kaman’s expression shifted as he finally began to retreat. If word of today got out, he would be humiliated to death and his older brother would mock him for the rest of his life.
But before he could take two steps, a hand suddenly blocked his path. The owner of that hand looked at him with dissatisfaction. “I went through all the trouble of cornering you. I have not let you leave yet.”
Kaman was fuming. Who is cornering whom here?
To his surprise, Xiao Sa suddenly asked an unexpected question: “Have you all turned in today’s homework? Have you completed your mecha training tasks?”
What? Kaman suspected there was something wrong with his ears. He stared with a bizarre expression, which, combined with his two swollen cheeks, looked exceptionally comical.
“What is it to you? Move out of the way.”
Xiao Sa wagged a finger in front of him. “I knew you had not done your homework. Get it out right now. No one leaves until the homework is finished. And if you do not complete the operational training in the training room later, no one is stepping a foot out of those doors.”
Kaman and his companions looked at each other. Is this guy crazy?
He was sticking his nose into everything, even whether they did their homework. Their own fathers did not even nag them like this. Since when did a twenty-something transfer student get to play their godfather?
Xiao Sa did not feel like wasting words. He snapped his fingers, and the translucent spiritual needle appeared at his fingertips once more.
He gave them a malicious smile. “Or perhaps you have fallen in love with the feeling of suffering to learn?”
Kaman and the others turned red, instinctively pressing their legs together, their thigh muscles tensing up. Xiao Sa was a head taller than them. Blocking the way, he was like an impassable wall, or rather, a perverted demon.
Kaman was dumbfounded. Who bullies people like this?
Thus, for the next few days, under Xiao Sa’s unreasonable tyranny, Kaman and his band of socialite friends were forced to spend the most studious three days of their lives.
They entered the classroom on time every day, had their communication devices confiscated by Xiao Sa, and were forced to listen attentively, finish their homework, and complete their training tasks.
When the old professor of Class A received their assignments, his face was full of shock. Had he not seen them slumped over their desks working with his own eyes, he would have suspected they had found someone else to ghostwrite them again.
The old professor was deeply moved. Had these privileged prodigies finally seen the light?
After being bullied by Xiao Sa for three whole days, Kaman could not take it anymore. That night, he ran home, intending to complain to his father, Duke Lott, with a highly exaggerated account of the abuse.
To his surprise, as soon as he entered his father’s study, he heard his father talking excitedly with his older brother: “The second boy has finally done something worthwhile. I did not expect that stubborn brother of yours to finally have a breakthrough.”
Worthwhile? Me?
Kaman stood awkwardly at the door. Duke Lott beckoned him in.
Before he could start crying about the traumatic experiences he had suffered at Xiao Sa’s hands, Duke Lott patted his head kindly.
“Do you know who just called me? It was Professor Vera. He said you have been performing exceptionally well at school these past few days. Not only are you working hard yourself, but you are also leading the boys from the other families to do the same.”
He sighed with emotion. “If I had known you would bring such honor to the Lott family, I would not have sent you to the noble class in the first place. By the way, did you not want a new supercar hovercraft? I have already ordered it for you.”
Kaman: “…” Wait, there is actually a payoff?
“Heh, Second Brother really is a rare sight this time. If I remember correctly, just a few days ago he was drinking at the club until dawn. How did he suddenly change his nature? I wonder how many days he can keep this up.” Kaman’s older brother sat on the sofa with his arms crossed, squinting at him.
Kaman clenched his fists, wanting to defend himself, but upon meeting his brother’s cold gaze, he simply twitched the corner of his mouth and said nothing. Even the urge to complain was swallowed back down.
The next day after school, Kaman, sporting two swollen eyes, stood alone on the path leading to the main gate. Ten minutes later, Xiao Sa appeared on time as expected.
Xiao Sa walked over at a steady pace and saw Kaman staring at him with a complex expression.
Xiao Sa’s first words were: “Did you do today’s homework?”
Kaman scratched his hair in frustration. “I did it! I did it! The training is finished too! Are you satisfied now?! You freak!”
Xiao Sa looked satisfied. He lifted a foot to keep walking.
Kaman hurriedly stopped him. “Wait a minute.”
He looked around awkwardly to ensure no one was watching before whispering, “What exactly do you want? Did I offend you somewhere? Why are you doing this?”
Xiao Sa replied as if it were obvious, “Because I want Class A to be able to participate in the grade-level combat matches next month, and the level should preferably be above average.”
Kaman’s eyes widened as if he were looking at a madman. “Are you insane? Our class is always dead last. Hardly anyone in the class even goes to the combat matches. Besides, what does it have to do with you whether we participate or not?”
Xiao Sa tilted his chin slightly, looking at him through narrowed eyes. “You clearly all have A-rank spiritual power or higher; based on that alone, you are stronger than the other classes. Plus, your mechas have the best performance, and you have special VIP training rooms with top-tier equipment. With such superior conditions, why can you not participate in combat?”
“Is being dead last really that glorious?”
Kaman had to take several deep breaths to suppress the urge to curse.
He turned red and lowered his voice. “How could you understand? People like us have no inheritance rights. Aside from a bit of spiritual power, we have no political or business sense, nor any other talents.”
“Our families have no expectations for us, which is why they dumped us in a noble class like this. In a few years, when we are of age, we will just participate in matching and become tools for political marriages.”
“Can we not just be honest to god good-for-nothings while we are still at an age to play? Why do you insist on propping us up?”
Xiao Sa raised an eyebrow and tilted his head, deadpanning, “You have got it wrong. I am not insisting on propping up rotting wood. I am simply informing you. Otherwise, I will just have to beat all of you until you are hospitalized. That way, I will be the only one left in this class.”
He narrowed his eyes, saying in a nonchalant tone, “I will be watching you every day. You would not want the story of a C-rank spiritual cripple pricking your backsides to get out, would you?”
Kaman’s teeth nearly shattered from grinding them. Is this guy a demon? Or is he just born to be at odds with the Lott family?
In the distance, the honks of a hovercraft sounded twice.
Xiao Sa patted his shoulder and said earnestly, “Work hard. I am off.”
He left Kaman standing there, bewildered in the wind.
Xiao Sa sat in the hovercraft and was surprised to find Landis waiting for him in the back seat. “Why did you get off work early today?”
Landis did not answer. He simply looked at him thoughtfully and asked expressionlessly, “Who was that person just now?”
“A classmate.” Xiao Sa thought for a moment and rubbed his chin. “I think his name was Manka?”
Haino whispered a reminder in Xiao Sa’s ear: “His name is Kaman. Kaman Lott.”
Landis gave an oh and asked seemingly casually, “They did not bully you, did they?”
Xiao Sa shook his head helplessly. “Why do you always think people are bullying me?”
He touched his own cheek. Is being too handsome really a sin?
Haino muttered silently: “Exactly. He should be asking if you bullied anyone else.”
Xiao Sa: “.”
Landis remained silent, his ice-blue eyes watching him deeply. Then, he reached out a hand.
As if knowing what he was about to do, Xiao Sa beat him to it, reaching out to pat the top of Landis’s head and ruffling his soft blonde hair. “Be good. Do not worry, no one can bully me.”
Landis: “…”
The driver of the hovercraft was so startled he hurriedly raised the soundproof partition between the front and back seats.
Landis pressed his lips into a thin line, swiping away the hand that had dared to stroke the tiger’s whiskers with an indescribable expression.
He felt something was off. It seemed his partner, in places he did not see, was not nearly as pitiful as he had imagined.
