The Only Ultimate Alpha in the Universe - Chapter 19.1
Back when he was in school, Xiao Sa had received plenty of love letters, but such a blunt and solemn declaration of affection was a first.
To be proposed to on a first date and then presented with a contract on the second meeting if it were anyone else, it would likely feel oily, frivolous, or like a hidden plot. However, coming from the mouth of the steady, older Admiral Landis, it conveyed a sense of reliability.
Perhaps the towel around his neck was making him too hot; Xiao Sa pulled it off and casually tugged at his collar zipper to fan himself. He looked down at the marriage agreement and spoke slowly. “Admiral Landis, are you sure you don’t want to reconsider? If you just want me to help solve your mental pollution problem, then…”
He could help clear the mental pollution just as he had for Duan Feng. Was marriage truly necessary? Or was it…
“The matter of wanting to marry you is something I have considered deeply. You needn’t worry that it is a whim, nor is it merely to treat my mental pollution.”
Landis placed the prepared marriage agreement in front of Xiao Sa. His name, Landis Wenser, was already signed in a flourishing hand.
Xiao Sa looked up into Landis’s ice-blue eyes. His heart gave a jolt as a realization dawned on him. So Landis really does crave my body, no, he simply likes me too much! Since the illegal route didn’t work, he’s going the legal route.
Recalling how Landis had started taking off his clothes at the drop of a hat during their last date, Xiao Sa gave him an indescribable look. Tsk tsk, the people of this star system are truly blunt when it comes to courtship.
Seeing his hesitation, Landis thought for a moment and turned the agreement to the last page. “I know you have concerns. Do not worry; if after six months your health is failing or you still feel you cannot accept this marriage, we will part ways peacefully.”
“Even if we divorce, the promises I made just now will remain unchanged.”
Xiao Sa blinked in astonishment. This was essentially an unequal treaty in his favor. Generally, high-ranking nobles or magnates like Landis would insist on a prenuptial agreement to prevent assets from falling away in a divorce. This man, however, used his vast holdings as a dowry.
Since the conversation had reached this point, it would be rude to keep refusing. He thought about it. Six months was plenty of time to find a way into the Imperial Palace to retrieve his gemstone necklace. With the status and power of a Legion Commander at his side, it wasn’t impossible to track down his people either.
As long as he helped Landis solve his mental pollution, the Admiral likely wouldn’t refuse a divorce in six months. During that time, he would try to treat the man as well as possible as compensation for being unable to return Landis’s affection. As for the property, he didn’t need it; he would simply return it all when the time came.
Having made up his mind, Xiao Sa looked up and answered solemnly, “Alright. I agree to the marriage.”
Landis was a man of extreme efficiency. The day Xiao Sa signed the papers, he began arranging the wedding. The Wenser family was well-prepared for their leader’s marriage. Backed by immense resources, the preparations went smoothly. During the week it took for their starship to travel from Zhiyang to the Central Star, the Wenser Estate had already finalized the schedule.
Thirty was considered a late marriage for an S-grade soldier. When news broke that Admiral Landis was to be wed, everyone from the royal nobles down to the common citizens discussed it with fervor.
Eventually, some busybody leaked the news: the Admiral’s partner was a 100 percent match, but he was merely a C-grade male, and a mentally disabled one at that. Public opinion exploded. The Star Net forums were flooded with posts, and headlines were everywhere. Although unknown forces quickly suppressed the media frenzy, the heat of the topic remained.
“Heavens, the military’s most famous S-grade bachelor finally found someone, and it’s a disabled person. I can’t tell who is more unfortunate.”
“This story tells us that in Hainuo’s eyes, everyone is equal before compatibility!”
“I bet a bag of spicy strips that this C-grade won’t last a year before he ends up in the ICU.”
However, neither Xiao Sa nor Landis cared about the outside noise.
When Landis’s private plane arrived at Altollam City, the Wenser family’s private territory, the lights were already beginning to twinkle. To welcome the master of the land and his spouse-to-be, the road from the airport to the estate was under full martial law. An armed motorcade escorted a black stretched luxury car down the wide central boulevard, with two lines of attack helicopters clearing the way.
Xiao Sa sat in the back, propping his cheek on his hand as his gaze drifted across the scenery. When the motorcade entered the estate, the vast, open lawns and beautifully manicured trees seemed to stretch to the horizon. Angel fountains sprayed high columns of colored water on both sides, and the stone steps were paved with expensive veined marble. Every relief carving screamed of “prime real estate.”
Xiao Sa showed no surprise, simply appreciating the unique landscape style. Landis glanced at him, thinking that perhaps Xiao Sa had also come from a great family in the past, but sadly…
“Are you homesick?”
Xiao Sa turned back, raising an eyebrow. “Hmm?”
Landis said calmly, “This will be your home from now on. You will also be its master.”
Xiao Sa didn’t answer or refute; he simply sighed in his heart. To Landis, he was likely only a passing traveler.
The motorcade drove for nearly half an hour through the estate before stopping at the main complex. Red velvet carpets stretched from the entrance to the car door. Dozens of attendants stood in two rows at the lobby entrance, waiting respectfully.
An attendant opened the door. Xiao Sa stepped out with his long legs, casually glancing at the golden hall. He was still wearing the white training suit, which, given his tall and athletic frame, he managed to make look like casual athletic wear. Whether they were the guards, attendants, or security, everyone was in matching black suits or dark uniforms with solemn expressions. Despite the number of people, not a single one spoke.
The style of the estate, from the people to the architecture, was serious and archaic, much like Landis himself. Only Xiao Sa looked like he belonged to a different art style.
“Master,” Peron, the butler, bowed slightly in his tailcoat and silver-rimmed glasses. “Dinner is prepared. Please follow me.”
They walked through a corridor filled with luxury antiques and carvings to the dining hall. A ten-meter-long rosewood table was covered in steaming delicacies: roast chicken with red wine, seafood pasta, creamy pumpkin soup, and an array of exquisite desserts.
Other relatives of the Wenser family were already waiting at the entrance.
“This is Xiao Sa, my fiancé.” Landis placed his arm around Xiao Sa’s waist, introducing his uncles and elders one by one. “This is Uncle Claire, this is Uncle Leon…”
The posture made Xiao Sa a bit uncomfortable. It felt wrong, clashing with his habits as an Alpha. So, he took Landis’s wrist, moved it away, and—under the stunned gazes of the relatives—naturally put his own arm around Landis’s waist.
Landis: “?”
Xiao Sa tilted his head to look at him, not finding the gesture strange at all. “Continue.”
On his home planet, this was exactly how an Alpha held their Omega. His expression was so natural and innocent that Landis failed to react in time and simply continued introducing the rest of the family.
Landis’s cold eyes scanned the room. “Is the Lady not here again?”
Uncle Leon gave an embarrassed smile. “Your mother is feeling unwell and won’t be attending. She is resting in her room; her dinner has been sent up.”
“I see,” Landis replied flatly. “Let us begin.”
Xiao Sa sat in the high-backed chair at the first position to the left of the head of the table. On the starship, he had heard Landis mention his family situation. His father, Wright Wenser, was a commoner who stood out in the Ladder Arena, gained royal favor, and joined the military. Through decades of service, he rose to the rank of Admiral and was a grass-roots hero for commoners.
Wright had his eldest son, Landis, with his first wife. Sadly, she was frail and suffered from her husband’s mental pollution from the battlefield, passing away when Landis was young. His father was then matched by Hainuo to a noble lady, formalizing an alliance with the nobility and producing a second son, Field. Ten years ago, his father died in a war against xenomorphs. The second son was incompetent, but Landis, who had been ignored as a child, began to shine in the military academy, eventually taking over as head of the family after achieving great merit.
Landis’s summary had been brief, but Xiao Sa found it fascinating—a classic “Cinderella-style” underdog story. It seemed his stepmother and Landis didn’t get along, but Landis clearly didn’t care.
After a day of travel, the aroma of food made Xiao Sa’s stomach protest with hunger. He gave Landis a nod as if to say “I’m starting,” and without ceremony, he picked up his fork and knife, cut a piece of black pepper grilled sausage, and put it in his mouth. “Delicious.”
His movements were as natural as if he had been the master here from the start. Landis looked at him and nodded. “I’m glad you like it.”
Other family members looked at Xiao Sa in surprise. Uncle Claire frowned with displeasure but said nothing because Landis was present. It wasn’t until Landis took a sip of his wine that the other family members began to eat.
As he chewed, Xiao Sa observed the people at the table. This truly was a feudal nobility with clear classes; even the dining room doors were guarded by security 24/7. There were so many rules: no one could touch their utensils until the master swallowed the first bite, and no one spoke unless the master initiated conversation. They ate in silence like statues. Landis, having grown up in this oppressive environment, clearly saw nothing wrong with it.
Xiao Sa shook his head. How was this a “home”? It felt more like a forced corporate team-building dinner. Even delicious food loses its joy in such a setting; his own family would never be like this. He gave Landis a pitying look.
In the next moment, Landis signaled the attendant to take away the plate of grilled sausages in front of Xiao Sa. Xiao Sa, fork raised for a second sausage: “?”
Landis personally pushed a plate of ham and egg sandwiches toward him. “Those sausages are too greasy and contain too many pungent spices. The capsaicin will cause a slight numbing effect on your mental power. You shouldn’t eat too many; one portion is enough.”
Soon, at his signal, an attendant pushed a separate cart over and placed several plates before Xiao Sa: a soft-boiled egg steak with bacon pasta, red wine caviar, a medley of mushrooms and matsutake, and a bowl of carrot, milk, and bitter melon soup. The presentation was Michelin-star level, but the portions were pitifully small.
Xiao Sa: “…”
As for the taste, it wasn’t bad, but after finishing the tiny steak in two bites, he was left chewing greens. He picked up his spoon and took a mouthful of the creamy orange soup, instantly making a face of disgust.
Landis looked at him. “That soup contains a high concentration of neuro-alkaloids to help stabilize your mental sea and reduce internal heat. I specifically ordered the kitchen to make it for you. Drink more of it. I’ve also arranged a therapy spring at the hot spring house tonight for you to rest.”
It was clear Landis was fulfilling his promise, caring for him with extreme diligence down to every meal and daily detail, as if treating a terminal patient. Sigh, brother, don’t love too much…
Xiao Sa wasn’t ungrateful. He decided to endure it. It was only six months, and Landis was already so pitiable; he’d let it slide. With that thought, Xiao Sa heroically picked up the bowl and drained the soup in one go, using immense willpower not to vomit. Heavens, how can such malicious food exist in this world!
Watching his decisive action, Landis thought with surprise: He really likes this soup. He silently noted Xiao Sa’s “preference,” swallowed a piece of steak, and added: “In a few days, I’ll have the medical team check your body. Don’t worry, it’s just a routine physical; I will be going too.”
He intended to build a sanatorium on the estate if necessary, though he didn’t say it out loud so as not to trigger Xiao Sa’s “fragile and sensitive” mind.
Xiao Sa’s internal alarms went off. He spoke cautiously. “Actually, there’s nothing wrong with my body. And I’m not really mentally disabled…”
He was just a plain, simple alien.
Landis froze and frowned. “Then what is your mental entity? Is there some blockage preventing you from releasing it? If so, we need a more detailed check. I’ll take you to the Royal Hospital in the capital.”
Xiao Sa was silent for a moment. “Never mind. Maybe I am a little disabled after all.”
He absolutely could not go to the hospital. Being discovered as an alien was one thing, but if a doctor mistook his gland for a tumor and cut it off, wouldn’t he be turned into a half-eunuch?
That is impossible, absolutely impossible!
Xiao Sa would much rather be labeled a “disabled person” than deal with that.
Landis asked, “Were you severely injured in the past?”
Xiao Sa shook his head. “No, I was born this way. My family is the same.”
Landis’s gaze softened with even more pity. So it is a hereditary condition, he thought. It was likely the result of a low-compatibility union between his parents; given the Empire’s current medical technology, such genetic inheritance was currently incurable.
However, it didn’t matter. He and Xiao Sa were a 100% match. Their future children would certainly not repeat the same tragedy. All he needed was for Xiao Sa to live a bit longer; he decided he would have to pay even closer attention to the youth’s health from now on.
