The Omega's Vow: Never Marry a Mama's Boy Alpha - Chapter 41.2
Would Wen Yan obediently wait where she was?
Of course not.
She hung up the phone and sent her location to Gu Lin. Then, she flashed a sweet, generous smile, her charming and coquettish demeanor making the female alpha stare transfixed.
“Sorry, I have to go for my lover.”
“Hell no!!!”
While the female alpha merely sighed in disappointment, the male alpha beside her, crushed by the dashed hope, erupted in furious curses.
Wen Yan paid them no mind. She placed cash on the table, picked up her bag, and left the café.
Then, she headed to the famous Via Monte Napoleone.
As one of the world’s most renowned luxury shopping streets, it boasted two to three stores each for Gucci and Prada alone, alongside other famous brands like Armani, Versace, Fendi, and Valentino, all with storefronts along this avenue.
Calling it a paradise for luxury enthusiasts was no exaggeration.
Wen Yan wasn’t particularly obsessed with luxury goods, but she would still buy items she liked in terms of style and design. She preferred pairing high-end pieces with clothes from niche brands, unlike others who flaunted head-to-toe logos.
As soon as she approached the store entrance, a tall, handsome attendant enthusiastically pushed open the heavy glass door for her. Her Prada bag wasn’t a particularly rare model, and the Tiffany bracelet on her left wrist was just a common piece. Yet, a sharp-eyed sales assistant noticed her four-leaf clover jade earrings, a special design from the top-tier jewelry brand Harry Winston from a previous year.
They had sold out immediately upon release, with resale prices doubling the original cost.
The sales assistant eagerly approached, offering attentive and thoughtful service to this beautiful East Asian woman. The beauty, in turn, was remarkably straightforward without any hesitation or nitpicking, she bought every item that caught her eye.
Oh, my God.
The way she swiped her card so decisively was incredibly cool.
The omega salesgirl’s eyes sparkled with admiration, thrilled about the boost to her monthly sales performance.
After completing her purchase, Wen Yan’s mood improved significantly. Her habit of indulging in retail therapy when upset had followed her into this world, but fortunately, her current income could support it. After all, she had endorsements and had starred as a leading actress just her salary for Rivalry, directed by Lin no, Gu Lin had been 800,000.
With money, a woman no, an omega had plenty of confidence.
So what if she had toyed with her fiancée repeatedly? She had a job and nothing to fear.
So when Gu Lin called again, Wen Yan still answered with a lazy tone.
“Hello?”
“Why didn’t you tell me you left?”
“The boss said you weren’t at the café.”
Oh, how pitiful. So very pitiful, with such a dejected tone.
If there had been a bit more of a sob in that voice, Wen Yan would have found it perfect.
“There were too many alphas there. I felt uncomfortable, so I left.”
“Do you want me to stay and entertain those stinky alphas, letting them flirt with me?”
Wen Yan spouted nonsense with unwavering confidence.
“Of course not!”
“But, I couldn’t find you.”
“It’s already dark. Have you eaten?”
“Where did you go again?”
Gu Lin’s questions became cautious, like her sensitive, shrinking heart.
Wen Yan remained silent for a while, and in this silence, Gu Lin’s heart grew even more troubled. She even blamed herself, wondering if she was being too persistent and annoying Wen Yan.
The two were only bound by a marriage contract not lovers, not even friends.
Could such concern be a burden to her?
Could it be that she actually found her irritating?
Gu Lin was extremely anxious, her heart pounding rapidly. As Wen Yan’s silence continued, she thought about breaking the awkwardness, wanting to say, “Forget it, I’ll wait for you at the hotel.”
“Shopping, spent a lot of money.”
“Didn’t bring my bank card, and the sales assistant won’t let me leave.”
“Can you come help me pay?”
Wen Yan held the phone with one hand, spinning a strand of her loose hair with the other, her eyes brimming with amusement.
“Okay!”
“Where are you? I’ll take a taxi over right away!”
Gu Lin sensed Wen Yan’s softened tone and, thinking she was telling the truth, eagerly wanted to rush over to spend money on her, to buy her the stars and the moon, and hang them in the gauze canopy above her bed.
“Via Monte Napoleone.”
Wen Yan gave the location and, as usual, hung up the phone.
The sales assistant at the counter had already packaged all her purchases. Wen Yan glanced at the pile of bags, then at the deepening night outside, and smiled. She asked which bag contained the rose brooch she had picked out.
The assistant pointed it out. Wen Yan picked up the other bags and asked with a smile if, when a particularly beautiful female alpha arrived later, she could give her that specific bag with the brooch inside.
“What’s the name of this particularly beautiful female alpha?”
The sales assistant asked with a grin, emphasizing the words “particularly beautiful” with a teasing tone.
Wen Yan caught the teasing but didn’t shy away, answering openly.
“Gu Lin.”
Leaving Via Monte Napoleone, Wen Yan took a taxi straight to Savini Restaurant.
She was a little hungry.
If not for the unexpected incident that afternoon, today should have been marked by a memorable dinner.
Savini Restaurant had over a hundred years of history, featuring both a main dining hall and private rooms. Dining here was a formal affair, with waitstaff rigorously trained. Courses were served in a fixed sequence, much like a state banquet, focusing on traditional dishes such as steak, roast suckling pig, fried prawns, and Italian foie gras.
Wen Yan liked to try local traditional cuisine wherever she went, even if the flavors weren’t always to her liking, it was all part of the experience.
She chose a seat by the window and ordered a steak. Other specialties like roast suckling pig, fresh cheese, and pasta were off-limits for an actress in the midst of a weight-loss regimen. Pork was too fatty, cheese was high in calories, and pasta was a staple authentic Italian pasta often loaded with cream in the sauce, enough to make one gain several pounds after a single meal.
Wen Yan prided herself on her self-control. Even without her agent around, she steered clear of such high-calorie, high-fat foods.
A medium-rare steak was perfect tender yet not greasy, its rich juices locked in by the firm texture of the meat. Each bite released an explosion of aroma in the mouth, an ultimate indulgence, and swallowing it brought a deep sense of satisfaction.
Paired with a sweet and fragrant glass of bubbly, great.
Wen Yan felt thoroughly satisfied, a warm heat rising in her stomach that even eased the fatigue from her day of running around.
It was impossible not to feel tired after running around in high heels for so long. After dinner, returning to soak in a hot bath, dropping in a bath bomb, and being enveloped by the warm water and floating bubbles brought complete relaxation, a state of pure bliss where nothing else needed to be thought about.
Halfway through the steak, Wen Yan already felt full. She set down her knife and fork, slowly sipping her wine.
If nothing unexpected happened, the call should be coming soon.
Wen Yan put down her wine glass, thinking to herself.
Sure enough, the phone on the table lit up, displaying the words “Director Lin” in bold letters. Wen Yan answered but didn’t speak, waiting for Gu Lin to start the conversation.
What would she say?
Would she be furious after being repeatedly toyed with, or would she be so overjoyed by the gift that she couldn’t find the words?
Wen Yan wondered if Gu Lin would like the brooch.
Personally, Wen Yan loved it. The moment she saw it, she felt it perfectly matched Gu Lin’s aura. If Gu Lin wore a suit with that subtly enchanting rose brooch, it would exude a cool yet secretly alluring vibe complex and contradictory to the extreme.
“You, where are you right now?”
Gu Lin was clever. She didn’t ask anything else, cutting straight to the point by inquiring about Wen Yan’s location.
Nothing else mattered; finding her was the priority.
Little thing.
Wen Yan smiled silently. “Sapphire Restaurant.”
“Hurry, driver, Sapphire Restaurant.”
So she was already in the car.
Wen Yan’s smile widened. Gu Lin’s fear that she might run off again was genuinely a bit adorable.
“I really like the brooch. Thank you for the gift.”
Gu Lin clutched her phone, feeling somewhat embarrassed as she said this.
She had rushed to Napoleon Street as quickly as possible and entered the luxury store Wen Yan had mentioned. Before arriving, she had imagined Wen Yan waiting there for her, and after paying, they could enjoy a romantic dinner together.
But once again, there was no sign of that person.
Gu Lin began to think Wen Yan was truly angry, which was why she kept playing these tricks to vent her frustration.
Her shoulders slumped in disappointment, her body so heavy she could barely take another step.
Look at you, look at the mess you’ve made.
The pristine ceramic tile floor, clean enough to serve as a mirror, clearly reflected Gu Lin’s dejected face, like a puppy abandoned by its owner.
A pitiful, defeated dog.
“Excuse me, are you Ms. Gu Lin?”
A sales assistant approached, her tone friendly but slightly questioning.
Gu Lin looked up in surprise. “Yes, I’m Gu Lin.”
“Could you please show me your passport or some form of identification?”
“Ms. Wen Yan left a gift for you.”
At her most desolate and hopeless moment, a ray of sunlight broke through the thick clouds, illuminating her barren heart.
Her heavy body instantly filled with energy, becoming light and almost euphoric, as if she were floating on air.
She showed her passport and received the gift Wen Yan had left for her.
A brooch, a silver rose-shaped brooch, its petals delicately outlined with gold thread, understated yet luxurious.
Gu Lin adored it.
This was from Wen Yan.
This was from Wen Yan!
Gu Lin’s anxious heart felt as if it had been injected with a shot of adrenaline, instantly calming down. With her mind now clear and sharp, she realized that this game of cat and mouse wasn’t what she had assumed Wen Yan’s annoyance with her but rather a chase wrapped in rewards and punishments.
It was a game, a playful gesture.
A uniquely planned date.
If Wen Yan truly disliked her, didn’t want to see her anymore, or didn’t want to engage with her, she could have just said so. With Gu Lin’s considerate and tolerant nature, she wouldn’t have objected.
The usually astute Fifth Miss Gu suddenly felt hopelessly foolish. Yet, this self-reproach was tinged with a hint of sweetness, it was because of Wen Yan that she had lost her composure and rationality, becoming unlike herself.
In the taxi, Gu Lin grew increasingly restless. Every second felt like an eternity, and she wished she could fly to Wen Yan’s side immediately.
Wen Yan.
Wen Yan.
Gu Lin silently called her name in her heart.
This was her leading lady.
Her fiancée.
Her beloved.
As soon as the taxi stopped, Gu Lin tossed the fare without waiting for change, hurriedly pulling the door shut.
On her way upstairs, Gu Lin’s mind raced with worries, what if Wen Yan had left again? What if she wasn’t there? Countless scenarios flashed through her mind, but her steps never slowed.
Finally, she saw her.
Wen Yan sat by the window, one hand propping up her chin, exuding an air of lazy nonchalance. Her eyes were fixed on the nightscape outside, the colorful neon lights reflected in her dark pupils, though in truth, her gaze was vacant, her mind empty.
Lonely, solitary, yet not desolate.
Gu Lin could no longer restrain herself. In a few quick strides, she was standing before Wen Yan.
Wen Yan turned, sensing that familiar gaze. Before she could say anything, Gu Lin enveloped her in a tight embrace.
Behind her were Gu Lin’s tightly wrapped arms; in front, her warm chest and the intense, rhythmic beating of her heart.
Thump-thump.
Thump-thump.
It echoed clearly and powerfully. The alpha’s scent was clean and refreshing, her chest soft. The embrace brought Wen Yan no discomfort, instead, it felt incredibly soothing.
It was as if Gu Lin was saying, You don’t have to be like this.
You don’t have to be alone.
You have me.
You’ve always had me.
Wen Yan rested her hands lightly on Gu Lin’s shoulders, exerting no pressure.
She was tired, and the embrace was so comforting that she gave in, burying her face in Gu Lin’s chest and exhaling deeply.
It truly felt wonderful to entrust her entire being to someone else, to trust her completely, to surrender to her embrace without a single worry or concern.
This wasn’t at all like Wen Yan’s usual thoughts, yet the idea surfaced uncontrollably.
It was the omega’s innate nature, the trust and reliance on her alpha.
To give her body, love, and soul entirely to the alpha she adored then, that alpha would become the general wielding a sword for her, the knight guarding her, repaying her love with boundless loyalty and unwavering devotion.
Wen Yan grew increasingly drowsy from the embrace. The relaxation of her tense body and nerves brought on an overwhelming fatigue. She let out a small yawn and gently nudged Gu Lin, who still hadn’t let go.
“I’m sleepy.”
It was strange.
Since her nightmares began, she had been on high alert, never feeling this drowsy. This was the first time she had actively wanted to sleep.
Was it because she was tired from shopping?
Or was it because the person before her gave her an unparalleled sense of security?
Gu Lin was reluctant to release her. Finally allowing herself to act on her desires and hold the person in her arms so fragrant and soft, she simply couldn’t bring herself to let go.
But she did look truly exhausted, her expression weary and her eyes lacking their usual spark.
“Let’s head back then,” Gu Lin suggested, reluctantly letting go of her hand. Only then could Wen Yan clearly see her face.
She looked like a puppy forced to give up its favorite toy.
Wait no, she wasn’t a toy.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you?” Wen Yan pushed the menu toward her. “Let’s eat before we go back.”
Even though her anger during their earlier argument had been genuine, Wen Yan’s nurturing “older sister” nature reminded her to make sure Gu Lin had dinner.
“You should try the roasted suckling pig, I heard it’s amazing.”
Gu Lin glanced at Wen Yan, who was still drowsy, and shook her head. That would take too long.
“I’ll just have a plate of pasta.”
Simple, convenient, and quick.
Gu Lin only ate half of her portion before setting down her fork, then took the exhausted Wen Yan back to the hotel.
Wen Yan fell asleep in the car almost immediately first leaning against Gu Lin’s shoulder, but when the driver braked abruptly at a red light, she ended up nestled in Gu Lin’s lap.
With her eyes closed, Wen Yan lost her usual aloofness and allure. Her slender black hair framed her face, giving her a gentle, serene, and unusually docile appearance that made Gu Lin’s heart swell with affection. She longed to press soft goodnight kisses on the cheeks of the sleeping beauty resting in her lap.
“Wen Yan.”
The car stopped at the hotel entrance. Gu Lin gently poked Wen Yan’s cheek, but there was no response.
“Wen Yan.”
Carrying her, Gu Lin stepped into the elevator and called her name softly still no reaction.
“Wen Yan.”
Gu Lin laid her down on the bed in her own room and poked her cheek once more.
“Mmm….”
“Stop bothering me!”
Wen Yan lifted her hand weakly, attempting to swat away the nuisance disturbing her rest, but she had no strength her hand merely hovered briefly before dropping back down.
Then she turned on her side, hugging the blanket, and fell into a deep, peaceful slumber.
It was the lingering alpha pheromones that soothed the omega’s long-standing anxiety and tension.
That’s why, the moment she drew close to Gu Lin, she inevitably sank into a heavy, dreamless sleep.
Gu Lin was utterly captivated by this rare, coquettish side of Wen Yan. Her heart raced wildly, so overwhelmed with emotion she felt she’d give her very life for this woman.
Thrilled beyond words but unsure how to release the excitement, she could only text her mother to share her exhilaration.
How could her fiancée be this adorable!
