The Omega Who Canceled the Engagement Ended Up Falling for Me - Chapter 6
It was twelve o’clock in the morning, and most of the roadside restaurants had long since closed. Xu Qing idled her motorcycle slowly along the non-motorized vehicle lane. A person on a bicycle sped past them, causing the pair of hands encircling her waist to tighten. Xu Qing slowed down slightly, turned her face, and asked, “Did that scare you?”
Fu Shuang: “Huh?”
Xu Qing felt a bit gloomy. This was the first time she had encountered such a cute Omega woman, yet she could only wrong her by making her sit on the back seat of a motorcycle. That back seat was terrifyingly high; the poor Omega was likely scared out of her wits.
Thinking of her tearful and trembling appearance, Xu Qing felt a pang of heartache. She spoke to her sideways, “Just bear with it a little longer, we’ll find a noodle shop soon.”
“…Okay, thank you, Big Sister,” Fu Shuang murmured. Seeing that even a bicycle was moving faster than them, she felt quite speechless.
This tortoise-like speed was making her drowsy. Sure enough, after a moment, she couldn’t keep her eyes open, and her helmet-clad head slumped against the shoulder of the person in front.
If Xu Qing had a God’s-eye view, she would be able to see the girl leaning her entire weight against her.
She was heavy, as if she had pressed her entire body mass onto Xu Qing.
Xu Qing didn’t quite understand what was happening and maintained a stiff posture until the hands around her waist slipped slightly. She quickly grabbed them, pulled over in a hurry, and looked back in shock. “Are you… asleep?” She lowered her voice for the last few words, afraid that speaking too harshly would frighten her.
The girl woke from her nap, her raven-feather eyelashes fluttering. Realizing she was leaning entirely against Xu Qing, she was indeed startled. She adjusted her posture and said softly, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. Luckily you didn’t fall off,” Xu Qing said, realizing she was still tightly holding the other’s hand. Seeing that the girl didn’t try to struggle and just lowered her head like a dejected little rabbit, Xu Qing continued, “Get off. I shouldn’t have brought you on the bike; it’s too dangerous.”
Xu Qing let go of her hand, turned off the engine, and got off the bike. “There’s a ramen shop up ahead, let’s walk over.”
She helped the girl down from the back seat and led the way, watching the girl’s shadow under the streetlights to judge the distance between them.
“Your jacket,” the girl caught up with small steps, “it’s a bit cold, Sister, you should put it on.”
“I’m not cold, you keep it.” Xu Qing had no idea how lethal her physique, dressed so lightly, was to an Omega. She kept her hands in her pockets and lowered her head, still thinking about what to do next.
Should she let her stay at her house?
She currently lived alone in a suburban apartment—a large, four-bedroom flat. It had every amenity imaginable, and since she didn’t need that much living space for herself, there was more than enough room for an Omega woman to stay.
But did this involve any legal risks?
The little Omega looked so innocent, almost falling asleep on the back of a motorcycle; she clearly had no guard up against Alphas. Could she… still be a minor?
Wouldn’t doing this be equivalent to kidnapping a minor?
Xu Qing was still thinking about this even after they sat down in the restaurant and ordered.
She found it hard to bring it up herself, because that would make her look even more like a kidnapper—wouldn’t it scare her?
As if guessing what she was thinking, the girl sitting opposite her spoke up: “I’ll go back by myself in a while. If they can’t find me, my stepfather will call the police. The police will take me back eventually anyway. It’s better if I go back myself; maybe I’ll get beaten less.”
She had already wiped away her tears, but her eyes and nose were still red. Her gaze was stubborn, possessing a kind of fragile yet resilient beauty.
Xu Qing’s heart ached. She quickly comforted her: “Don’t worry. If you don’t want to go back, I’ll find a way to help you.”
The girl looked up at her, a pure smile blooming in those eyes that seemed capable of speaking. She said, “Really, Big Sister?”
Seemingly scorched by her burning gaze, Xu Qing cleared her throat and looked down. “I have several vacant houses. If you don’t want to go home for now, you can stay at my place for a few days.”
“I’ll pay you rent once I earn some money,” the girl’s joy turned back to worry. “But it’s hard for me to find a job right now, it might take some time…”
“It’s fine,” Xu Qing said. “You can stay there first, we can talk about rent later.”
The girl was somewhat incredulous: “Really?”
“Yeah. It’s just that the place is a bit remote, so commuting to work might not be very convenient. The nearest subway station is over a kilometer away,” Xu Qing paused. Seeing that the girl’s eyes were still bright and not deterred by her description, she continued, “But there are benefits. The community security is very strict, there’s a supermarket downstairs, and the surrounding facilities are all brand new. It’ll be a bit safer for a girl living alone.”
“That place… the rent won’t be cheap, right?” the girl asked softly with her eyes lowered.
Xu Qing: “I’m not sure. I won’t collect rent from you.”
The girl’s eyes widened slightly, and she covered her mouth with her hand, looking extremely surprised.
Xu Qing quickly explained: “I don’t mean anything else. I just see that you’re in trouble and want to help. I won’t ask for any other compensation…”
The girl’s eyes reddened as she lowered her head, tears falling. “From childhood until now, no one has ever been this good to me…”
Xu Qing felt a pang in her chest as soon as she saw her cry. She took two tissues and handed them to her.
“Thank you, Big Sister,” the Omega with the pitiful background said while wiping her tears.
Looking at her flushed face, Xu Qing couldn’t hold back her concern and whispered, “You… are an adult, right?”
“Yes, I just turned eighteen this year,” the girl’s soft voice plucked at Xu Qing’s heartstrings. She introduced herself with a smile, “My name is Bai Lu, you can call me Lulu. Sister, what is your name?”
Over the reeds the white dew turns to frost.
Fu Shuang was very satisfied with the stage name she had come up with on the fly.
Just as Xu Qing was about to speak, the waiter brought the steaming ramen to the table, saying, “Here, be careful of the heat. Which one is this for? You both ordered the same thing, right?”
The beef broth was fragrant, the noodles were distinct, and it was topped with a thick layer of thin beef slices, as well as fresh green onions and cilantro.
Seeing their outfits, the waiter politely placed the bowl in front of the one who looked younger.
Fu Shuang frowned, looking at the bowl in front of her with unease.
Although she was tired and hungry, she really couldn’t finish such a large bowl of noodles, and more importantly, the amount of green onions on top was practically a lethal dose.
With just one look, Xu Qing saw her reluctance and quickly said, “Give this bowl to me. For the next one, no green onions or cilantro.”
Fu Shuang showed a look of surprise and admiration. She asked, “How did you know I don’t like green onions?”
“I just found out,” Xu Qing said. “If you don’t like something, you can tell me in advance. I won’t mind.”
“Thank you, Sister. You’re so thoughtful,” Fu Shuang said with a smile. “Actually, I like cilantro, but I don’t like green onions.”
Xu Qing: “Then I’ll tell the waiter again.”
“No need.” Fu Shuang tried to stop her but failed. The waiter happened to be standing right behind Xu Qing. Xu Qing turned around and spoke to her.
Because Xu Qing spoke a few words to her, the young waitress was overjoyed. She quickly noted the request and turned to the kitchen to tell them: no green onions, yes cilantro.
Watching the waitress walk away as if her soul were floating, Fu Shuang stole another glance at Xu Qing, who was eating her noodles with her head down. Even though Fu Shuang wasn’t usually interested in looks, she secretly thought: So handsome.
A kind-hearted and beautiful Alpha sister—if Fu Shuang weren’t so busy trying to earn money and find a job, she might have actually felt a heartbeat.
Initially at the bar, Fu Shuang was just afraid of being harrassed by Boss Zhou. She found an opportunity to run away with this Alpha sister, and fearing she would be left behind, she had used every trick to act cute and spoiled.
She wanted to gamble on whether this Alpha sister would take her in; at the very least, she could trick her out of some money to stay in a hotel. However, the Alpha sister hadn’t made any decent suggestions the whole way. Just when Fu Shuang thought it was a lost cause, the other party was actually willing to give her a vacant house to live in?!
This was simply a stroke of pure luck.
Fu Shuang ate her noodles in small bites. When Xu Qing put down her chopsticks, she followed suit, standing up to pay for the noodles.
“I’m treating you to noodles, don’t pay,” Xu Qing stopped her. “Be good. If you want to repay me, you can talk about it after you earn money.”
Fu Shuang hesitated before putting her phone away, waiting obediently by the side.
Xu Qing felt that she was the one with the stroke of luck. Rumor had it that Omegas were delicate, fragile, and sensitive, prone to exploding and throwing tantrums over the slightest thing. Xu Qing had originally prepared herself to spend her life dealing with that eldest-miss fianceé of hers, but she hadn’t expected that besides arrogant heiresses, there was such a well-behaved and lovely Omega in this world.
