The Omega Who Canceled the Engagement Ended Up Falling for Me - Chapter 31
After a period of mental struggle, Xu Qing finally decided to get up. She planned to take her girlfriend for a shower, change her clothes, and eat something to replenish her energy; they could sleep later, anyway. Since the next day was Saturday, they could peacefully sleep until they woke up naturally.
It is notoriously difficult for someone who has just finished “that business” to climb out of bed. After they finished, Fu Shuang was completely spent. Xu Qing tried coaxing and deceiving her, but eventually chose to take action, carrying her girlfriend on her back and “throwing” her into the bathtub, which was already half-filled with water.
“Throwing” wasn’t exactly the right word, but given that Fu Shuang was uncooperative at the time—her slender limbs clinging to Xu Qing, refusing to let go while she shamelessly demanded Xu Qing carry her around the room for three laps—Xu Qing stopped considering the subject’s wishes and placed her directly into the water.
When the house was being renovated, Ms. Min had followed a popular trend among young people and installed the bathtub separately on the master bedroom’s balcony. Usually, the thing went unused for ages. Xu Qing had only cleaned it recently because she heard her girlfriend say she liked taking baths; she hadn’t expected it to come in handy so soon.
While her girlfriend soaked, Xu Qing went to the liquor cabinet in the living room and grabbed a bottle of prized red wine. She poured a glass for herself, and for the other—committing a bit of a “sacrilege” against fine wine—she mixed in half a cup of Sprite and ice cubes, garnished it with a fresh mint leaf, and placed two store-bought cakes on a tray. Finally satisfied with her perfectionism, she brought the tray to the bathtub.
Having been left alone for just a short while, Fu Shuang’s face already bore a look of displeasure, which dissipated only when Xu Qing kissed her forehead. Noticing the drink Xu Qing had specially prepared for her, she looked at her with a complex expression, took a sip of the pale-colored liquid, and looked even more confused.
“Is it good?” Xu Qing sat on the edge of the tub, staring incessantly at the beautiful Omega.
“Is this… wine?” Fu Shuang frowned as she savored the taste. “It’s actually quite good.”
Although she hated drinking, the cup in her hand was more akin to fruit juice, and it served to dilate her blood vessels and relax her mind.
Xu Qing suppressed a laugh. Her “little sister” couldn’t even tell it was wine mixed with Sprite and acted a bit shocked. She seemed like an innocent Omega who had been well-protected and hadn’t spent much time around the various cocktails of the bar scene… perhaps their previous encounter at the bar had truly been a fluke.
Xu Qing still didn’t know enough about her.
The claims of domestic violence seemed increasingly unreliable. Aside from the bruises shown during their first meeting, the Omega’s body was clean, without a single scar or broken skin. Xu Qing had touched her from head to toe, knowing exactly where every mole was located; if that was the case, why did she lie?
“It’s Sprite mixed with a little red wine,” Xu Qing said, holding her glass in one hand while the other reached into the water, touching her silk-smooth, delicate leg.
Fu Shuang wasn’t particularly ticklish and didn’t reject the contact; in fact, she seemed dependent on it. When Xu Qing splashed water over her, she shivered with comfort and called out pleadingly, “Sister!”
Xu Qing stopped teasing her and fed her the small cakes, watching her slowly sip the Sprite-wine mixture, refilling it once after asking.
Fu Shuang was in a daze. Her long hair was tied up in a large, beautiful bun on top of her head, though the stray hairs at the nape of her neck and temples were wet. She rested listlessly against the bathtub pillow, panting slightly. A thin layer of sweat appeared on her face, and her capillaries expanded into a vivid crimson, making her look somewhat unusual.
The water temperature was normal and the alcohol content was low. Xu Qing touched her face, and as her palm pressed against it, Fu Shuang obediently leaned her cheek into the touch.
“It’s a bit hot, please wait a moment.” Like a gentleman, Xu Qing stood up, prepared a half-bottle of medicinal solution, and poured a small capful into the tub.
The effect of the medicine was instantaneous. Fu Shuang finally regained some energy; her drooping eyes lifted as she asked expectantly, “Do you want to soak with me?”
“Sure.” Xu Qing agreed quickly, afraid the opportunity would vanish. She was wearing only a silk shirt with a very low collar, which she stripped off with a single tug. She looked both sexy and unconstrained. As she lay down in the water, the level rose slowly, stopping just before it overflowed—a sight that could only be described as elegant.
Though Xu Qing was tall, she was quite thin, so the tub was just barely enough for two. The medicinal bath began to work its magic, gradually soothing her nerves and making her stop thinking about whether she could try for a “third round.”
It was only the first day, and the Omega had just accepted the mark. Xu Qing needed to observe her condition; she didn’t know what consequences a reckless new attempt might bring.
The place where Xu Qing had been bitten still stung. She checked it in the mirror—the red mark was startling—but she actually quite liked it.
In a physical sense, this was a special mark left on her by the Omega girl.
“Lulu.”
Xu Qing looked away from her phone and tried calling out the name softly.
Fu Shuang’s eyelids were half-closed as if she were asleep, even though she had been drinking her Sprite-wine just a second ago.
“Lulu?” Xu Qing raised her voice slightly.
Fu Shuang remained unmoved. Xu Qing reached out and lightly brushed her hair—a movement as light as a butterfly’s wing—and only then did Fu Shuang lift her eyes, revealing a tired smile: “Sister.”
Seeing her subconsciously lean toward her, Xu Qing’s heart nearly melted.
“I have to work overtime tomorrow morning,” Fu Shuang murmured, closing her eyes. “Tomorrow… I can’t oversleep…”
She fell asleep mid-sentence. Xu Qing cleaned up the aftermath, settled her into her own bed, and thoughtfully plugged her phone in to charge.
Fu Shuang’s wallpaper was a photo of a field of Moon-Pale Grass. The person in the photo was small and blurred like a silhouette, further obscured by the time and date on the lock screen. At first glance, Xu Qing felt the image was familiar, but she couldn’t place it. Perhaps she had seen it online?
The next morning was a total nightmare for Xu Qing. In her imagination, after a night of tenderness, they would sleep until they woke up naturally, followed by more lingering affection. Ideally, it would be a rainy Saturday so they could lazily listen to the rain outside, find a movie to kill time in the living room, or play games.
Instead, Fu Shuang’s alarm started blaring at 5:00 AM. At first, it went off every ten minutes, then every three minutes—all of them were invariably silenced by Fu Shuang, only to ring again moments later.
Xu Qing: “…”
Is waking up really this hard?
If it’s this hard, what is the point of working and doing overtime so desperately every day?
The person under the covers was trying to extract every possible minute of pleasure from sleep. Xu Qing switched the phone to silent and stood up to pull back the curtains, letting the soft morning light gently wake her girlfriend.
Raindrops formed chaotic lines on the glass. The sky outside was gloomier than expected; the trees below danced wildly in the wind, and the rainwater on the ground was blown into ripples. A few stray drops hit the bedroom window with a light vibration.
The bedroom was too well-soundproofed, and she had forgotten to check the weather forecast. She hadn’t expected the weather to be this terrible.
In this weather, she still wants to rush to work?
Crucially, Xu Qing only had a motorcycle for transportation; there was no way to send her to work in such heavy rain.
Ever since the last subway accident, the transit group had issued a notice suggesting Omegas avoid taking the subway unless absolutely necessary. This was essentially the same as banning them. Though it sparked protests from minority groups, the protests had no effect.
Xu Qing took Fu Shuang’s phone away, leaving her in the bedroom to continue enjoying her stable sleep.
At worst, she would take the consequences.
At 8:30 AM, Fu Shuang was still unconscious, sleeping more soundly than ever. After enjoying two hours of deep sleep, she finally came to her senses.
“My phone…” She instinctively reached for the pillow.
“Right here.” Xu Qing placed the breakfast and the phone on a tray together. On the surface, she remained calm, but inside, she was braced for Fu Shuang’s anger.
If she put herself in Lulu’s shoes—having someone turn off her alarm, take her phone, and make her late for work—Xu Qing would definitely be angry.
But she truly felt for her girlfriend, who had been working non-stop without rest. If it was for the sake of making a living, Xu Qing wanted to tell her: You don’t have to work so hard. You have me.
In reality, Fu Shuang didn’t even look at the time on the phone. She first saw the breakfast Xu Qing had prepared; the aroma of pumpkin porridge awakened her sense of taste, the buttered toast was fried to a perfect golden brown, and the freshly ground coffee dispelled the last of her sleepiness. Her hand reached for the coffee cup first, accepting the thoughtful service without any sense of being an outsider—as if she were accustomed to it.
“What time is it?” the “little princess” asked after a sip of coffee. Her tone sounded like she was about to ask if the newspaper had arrived.
Xu Qing tapped the phone. The screen lit up to show 08:33. Xu Qing rested her chin on her hand and gave her a sweet smile: “Good morning, my princess.”
Fu Shuang raised her hands over Xu Qing’s shoulders, making a move to hug her like a clingy child.
“How did I oversleep?” the clingy one said lazily, leaning against Xu Qing. “I promised the manager I’d work overtime today.”
She didn’t suspect Xu Qing’s interference at all, and she didn’t seem angry in the slightest.
Xu Qing, slightly startled, suggested softly, “Do you want to call your manager and ask for leave?”
“Mhm, let’s talk after breakfast. Forget about it for now.” Fu Shuang sat up straight and pointed at several breakfast items, looking as if she were having a hard time choosing.
“Sister prepared such a rich breakfast, which one should I eat first?”
Xu Qing reminded her, “Drink the porridge first to warm your stomach.”
Fu Shuang picked up a spoon of the golden pumpkin porridge, blew it cool, and offered it to Xu Qing’s lips first.
Xu Qing was overwhelmed by the favor. Her first thought was whether her girlfriend had undergone a personality shift after being marked—becoming this gentle and considerate.
As the warm porridge slid down her throat, another possibility occurred to her.
Sure enough, the Omega girlfriend’s next words confirmed Xu Qing’s suspicion. She diligently fed Xu Qing breakfast and said with a beaming smile:
“Sister, you think I didn’t know? I actually know you turned off my alarm. I’m going to miss work for the whole day now. Shouldn’t Sister compensate me for my lost wages?”
Xu Qing nearly choked.
Last week, when she had a concussion from the car accident, this girl had also shamelessly extorted “lost wages” from her.
Xu Qing began to wonder if Lulu had some kind of misunderstanding about her earning potential. If she told her she only made six thousand a month, would this girl break up with her immediately?
She seriously suspected this was a possibility. Although Xu Qing was physically attractive, if she appeared to be a “penniless loser” in the eyes of her Omega sister, her charm would plummet, and their relationship would likely be over.
Observing Xu Qing’s hesitation, Fu Shuang put down the spoon and “thoughtfully” rubbed Xu Qing’s back. She explained with a playful grin:
“Sister, I’m already late anyway. I might as well stay home and keep you company. We can watch movies or cook. If you want to go for a walk in the park, go to the amusement park, or even celebrate my birthday, I’m okay with it. Good sister, ‘lost wages’ in exchange for twenty-four hours of me—isn’t that a bargain?”
Faced with such beauty, Xu Qing agreed immediately.
She felt like she finally understood those “big fans” who threw money at streamers. Spending a little money to gain the care of the person on the other side of the screen provided emotional value that couldn’t be measured in gold. She had heard that some grateful streamers would even order takeout or send milk tea and flowers to their top supporters; such small favors were enough to make those fans show off happily everywhere.
By comparison, Xu Qing was much luckier than they were.
