The Omega Who Canceled the Engagement Ended Up Falling for Me - Chapter 11
Visiting the Fu household several times in a row had proven fruitless. Unable to find a solution, Fu Hengxi complained helplessly to Xu Qing, “Fu Shuang has been rebellious since she was a child. She doesn’t act like a normal Omega at all. It’s all her mother’s fault for indulging her and failing to discipline her properly.”
Lu Yijiang chimed in with a calculated air of concern, “Could there be something wrong with Shuangshuang’s head? If I’d known, we should have taken her to the hospital for an exam.”
She was wearing a floral dress today with a high slit at the hem. Sitting on the edge of the sofa’s armrest, her slender white hand brushed through her freshly permed curls. Even though no one was paying attention to her, she maintained the posture of a deeply caring elder.
Fu Hengxi shot her a look and vented his frustration, “You want to take her to the hospital? Why would she listen to you? She doesn’t even respect my word!”
Xu Qing took a sip of tea and said, “Since she has no intention of returning yet, I will come back tomorrow.”
“Miss Xu, why bother?” Lu Yijiang tried to persuade her on her own accord. “A twisted melon isn’t sweet. Even if you marry a rebellious girl like that, you won’t be happy. Who doesn’t want a well-behaved, obedient wife? We blame ourselves for not doing enough ideological work on Fu Shuang’s end, but things have come to this; what else can be done? Are we supposed to break her legs and deliver her to your house?”
Xu Qing frowned. “That is not what I meant.”
“We know,” Lu Yijiang said with a smile, “but you come here every day, and we can’t produce a solution… How about we hire a few people to go out and snatch Shuangshuang back?”
Xu Qing looked embarrassed, while Fu Hengxi kicked Lu Yijiang without mercy. “What nonsense are you talking about, you foul woman?”
Lu Yijiang winced and dodged to the side, glaring at Fu Hengxi. She cried out, “I’m joking! Is there a need to get so angry?”
Fu Hengxi snorted. “You don’t manage the things you should, and you meddle in things you shouldn’t. Get out of here!”
It was unclear if the two were putting on an act. Even though Lu Yijiang was scolded harshly, she didn’t lash out. She merely whimpered a few words and walked away, swaying her hips.
Fu Hengxi offered Xu Qing a cigarette and said, “Xiao Xu, to tell you the truth from the bottom of my heart, I have actually given up on this daughter.”
Xu Qing was slightly taken aback and did not take the cigarette the man offered.
Fu Hengxi placed the cigarette on the coffee table and smiled. “It’s shameful to say, but if you had met Fu Shuang and understood her personality, you would understand me.”
Xu Qing said, “As a parent, how can you give up on your own child?”
“But she is an adult,” Fu Hengxi said, dangling the cigarette in his mouth. He lit it with a gold lighter, leaned back against the sofa, took a puff, and continued, “I gave her the best possible arrangement—which is you. She doesn’t cherish it and doesn’t take it seriously. What can I do?”
Xu Qing remained silent. Fu Hengxi flicked the ash, lowered his head, and said, “Furthermore, this marriage was actually her mother’s dying wish. If a child doesn’t even care about her parents’ final wishes, is there any hope for her?”
Xu Qing swallowed and said, “Perhaps I can save her.”
Fu Hengxi let out a “Haha” laugh, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes. “Uncle will tell you from experience: you must be careful when choosing a wife. Marry well, and you’ll have a lifetime of wealth and glory; marry poorly, and your whole life will be miserable. Fu Shuang is simply not worthy of a talent like you.”
While they were speaking, a short-haired young girl wearing a black-and-white maid’s dress entered with snacks and fruit. She bowed, placing a basket of exquisite cookies and cherries in front of Xu Qing. When she looked up, she smiled at Xu Qing.
Xu Qing recognized her. She had encountered her the first time she came to the Fu house. At that time, the girl had made a face at Xu Qing, leading Xu Qing to suspect she was the eldest young lady, Fu Shuang. Later, she assumed the girl was a relative’s child. Why… was she a maid today?
The Fu family certainly lived up to their reputation as wealthy people; even the maid was dressed so exquisitely:
Platform shoes, white lace stockings, a skirt with more than three layers, a metal choker around her neck, and even the bow on her headband looked high-class.
Xu Qing didn’t intend to stay long at the Fu house, so she stood up and said, “No need, I must be going.”
The moment she stood up, she was hit by a sudden wave of dizziness. Her vision blurred, and she felt light-headed, stumbling to the side.
At first, she thought she could steady herself, but it wasn’t until she knocked over the cookies all over the floor that Xu Qing realized her body was not obeying her.
The overwhelming scent of Omega pheromones almost made her lose her mind. When she regained her senses, she found herself lying in the maid’s arms.
Xu Qing was startled, yet her body remained paralyzed against the other person. The fragrance filling the air made her blood surge, and her breathing became heavy.
The ceiling had changed its appearance, and the surface beneath her had become a soft bed. Looking to the sides out of the corner of her eye, vintage circular stained-glass windows reflected brilliant light and shadows. This layout and decoration were clearly those of a wealthy person’s bedroom.
Seeing her wake up, the maid gave her a mischievous smile and held up an index finger to say, “Shh.”
“How is it? Did it work?” Lu Yijiang’s voice drifted in again.
“Of course. No matter what, she’s still an Alpha. How could an Alpha not be affected by my pheromones?” The maid’s voice was pleasant and unique, seemingly carrying a scent of sea salt—fresh, salty, and sweet. She looked at Lu Yijiang with smug satisfaction and smiled, saying, “If Sister Shuang knew her fiancé was this beautiful, she’d be dead with regret.”
“You girl, lucky you.” Lu Yijiang chuckled and closed the door for them.
Xu Qing didn’t know what had happened in that brief period. Looking at the current situation, the Fu family seemed to have used some kind of scheme on her.
Was it the tea they served her at the beginning?
After the sound of Lu Yijiang’s high heels faded down the hallway, Xu Qing spoke: “You lied to her. You actually weren’t sure about your pheromones.”
The maid propped her elbow on the pillow, half of her smile fading. She said, “Aren’t you afraid, Sister Xu?”
“Feel my gland,” Xu Qing looked at her calmly. “There seems to be no reaction there.”
The maid reached out, her warm palm covering the back of Xu Qing’s neck. She felt the pulsing of the artery, but she could not feel the restlessness belonging to Alpha pheromones.
“The timing is wrong,” Xu Qing looked at the ceiling, her eyes bright and clear, yet appearing somewhat vacant due to a lack of emotion. She said, “If this had been a week earlier, before all this shitty stuff happened, I definitely would have had a reaction to you.”
The maid’s stiff expression turned into an irrepressible grin. She gave a soft huff. “Are you comforting me?”
Xu Qing: “Perhaps. I wouldn’t want you to doubt your own pheromones in the future.”
“Then you really are a good person,” the maid rolled over on the bed, sat up, and asked, “I really don’t understand. You haven’t even met Sister Shuang; why are you so determined to marry her?”
Xu Qing tilted her head to look at her. “I don’t know either.”
The maid couldn’t help but laugh. In truth, she was just a kid whose feathers hadn’t even grown in yet—likely just turned eighteen. Her sense of play was stronger than her ambition. Regarding the Fu family’s arrangement for her to do such a thing, she approached it with a purely playful attitude. If it worked, great; if not, so be it.
If it weren’t for the fact that Lu Haoze and Lu Haoming were too young and uncontrollable, perhaps one of them would be lying next to Xu Qing right now.
Her laughter was too loud, so Xu Qing had to glance at her and make a “shh” gesture.
The girl stopped playing, lowered her voice, and said with a look of sympathy, “Sister Xu, will you come back in the future?”
Xu Qing thought for a moment. “Since things have developed this way, won’t it be my fault if I don’t come back?”
“They are the ones in the wrong; why are you showing them any courtesy?” The girl rested her chin on her hand and said with a smile, “Unless you want to be the sucker and marry me.”
Xu Qing asked, “How old are you?”
“Seven days shy of eighteen, but the age of sexual consent for an Omega is sixteen,” the girl pulled up her stocking and invited, “Sister Xu, do you want to try?”
Xu Qing had zero interest in minors. What little heat remained in her blood was dampened by the girl’s true age.
Fortunately, she had maintained her reason just now; otherwise, one wrong step would have led to eternal regret.
Seeing Xu Qing turn her face away, the girl could only sigh. She took a pack of cigarettes from the nightstand and started smoking alone.
“Give me one.” Xu Qing sat up slightly and took the cigarette the girl handed her.
The other party enthusiastically provided a lighting service.
About five minutes later, the effects of the drug faded, and Xu Qing regained her strength.
Before leaving, she said goodbye to the girl. “I’m going.”
“Let’s exchange contact info,” the girl threw away her second cigarette and stood up with a smile. “If I have news of Sister Shuang, I’ll contact you immediately.”
Xu Qing said, “No thanks. You don’t seem to be close with her.”
The girl froze in place. She watched Xu Qing walk out the door with a smile, but her expression gradually faded, becoming cold and distant.
Xu Qing stepped out of the bedroom door, ignored everyone’s greetings, went straight to her car, and drove out of the Fu family’s courtyard.
It wasn’t until she passed through the bustling downtown area that Xu Qing began to feel the side effects of the drug. Her vision became blurred, as if her retina had been rubbed into frosted glass, and her hearing became dull. Like she had drunk too much, she had no reaction to the rising and falling sounds of car horns.
Beep beep—!
The car behind her was honking incessantly. Only then did Xu Qing realize the left-turn light had turned green. Just as she started the car, a child’s bicycle running a red light steered toward the front of her car.
She slammed on the brakes. The car behind rear-ended her. Xu Qing slammed hard into the deploying airbag and immediately lost consciousness.
The scene descended into chaos. The brat who ran the red light picked up his bike and fled in a hurry. Unaware of the situation, cars one after another blocked the intersection. A young female teacher got out of her car to check on the accident vehicle and hurriedly called for an ambulance.
She saw the owner’s phone lying nearby, the screen still lit. So, she picked it up and dialed the first contact in the call log.
“Hello, do you know the owner of this phone? She’s been in a car accident. She’s at the Bauhinia Road intersection…”
After Fu Shuang finished the call, her student, who had just finished playing a piece by Chopin, asked with a smile, “Teacher, how was I this time?”
Fu Shuang smiled and said, “Very good. The rhythm was more accurate than last time.”
The hourly rate for piano lessons was 300 yuan. Fu Shuang had already agreed with the parents of this household to teach for a full five hours today, which meant she would earn 1,500 yuan.
She wanted to forget that phone call, but her mind was already far from peaceful.
