The Omega Who Canceled the Engagement Ended Up Falling for Me - Chapter 10
Xu Qing took a taxi to the city’s central hospital. Ms. Min was still unconscious, hooked up to an IV drip and an oxygen tube.
Xu Qing found the doctor on duty to understand the specific situation. The doctor simply repeated: “The danger has passed. In the future, pay attention to controlling the patient’s blood pressure, mind her diet, and maintain a healthy emotional state. Try not to make her angry. Measure her blood pressure frequently; with things like this, prevention is the best cure.”
“Thank you, I appreciate your hard work.” Xu Qing noted down the doctor’s instructions before returning to the ward to accompany Ms. Min.
Mr. Xu Kai returned from somewhere unknown. Seeing her looking distressed by the bedside, he ridiculed her with a dark expression: “The great filial daughter. Where have you come from?”
Xu Qing lowered her head and said, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have disobeyed you both.”
“Your mother called you all night; she was nearly driven mad with rage,” Xu Kai sat lazily on a hospital stool, continuing his mockery. “To nearly lose her life over such a trivial matter—it’s truly absurd.”
“Mom has a bad temper and health issues. It was my oversight.” Xu Qing stood straight, her face cold and devoid of expression.
“You’re an adult now, I can’t be bothered to say much else. You know the cautionary tale of your sister well enough. Be careful in the future and don’t act recklessly again,” Xu Kai picked up a nearby thermos, stood up, and told Xu Qing, “I’m going back first. Take good care of your mother and defer to her more. Everything she does is for your own good.”
Xu Qing had nothing to say. She took over Xu Kai’s shift, keeping watch by the bed for Ms. Min to wake up.
This was destined to be a long and agonizing night.
With nowhere to voice the uncertainty in her heart, Xu Qing simply sat by the bed in a daze.
Thinking of her rebellious older sister, Xu Qing felt a sense of envy. She had heard that her sister was now running a farm in a rural part of Thailand; her skin was tanned dark, she was dating several Thai girlfriends, and her days were exceptionally comfortable.
Back then, she had divorced her ex-wife despite her family’s opposition, failed to even fight for custody of her daughter, and left all her assets to her ex-wife. Every single action had stomped on Ms. Min’s triggers. Later, she took things to the extreme and severed ties with the family; for eight years, she hadn’t made a single phone call home.
After her departure, Xu Qing, as the “only” daughter left in the family, had no choice but to shoulder the responsibility for them. Regarding the jobs and marriage the family arranged for her, Xu Qing had always complied.
Eight years ago, Min Se had nearly died from a cerebral infarction. Even while she lay in the ICU, the eldest sister had not come to the hospital once to see her.
At that time, Xu Qing hated her to death, but now, she began to envy her decisiveness.
Around one in the morning, Min Se woke up. Xu Qing, who was still sustaining herself on coffee, saw this and asked: “How are you feeling? Do you want me to call the doctor?”
Min Se’s face was sallow. she looked at her coldly and turned her head toward the window, unwilling to speak with Xu Qing.
After a while, she said: “Water.”
So Xu Qing fed her water and wiped her face with a towel.
Min Se was still angry and ignored her, closing her eyes shortly after to continue sleeping.
Xu Qing could finally rest for a while. Her body was already exhausted, but her brain was buzzing from the caffeine.
The next day was Friday. Xu Qing took a leave of absence from work to stay at the hospital and continue caring for Ms. Min.
Ms. Min did not appreciate her actions. When she was thirsty or hungry, she would rather press the call button for a nurse than speak to Xu Qing, who was guarding the bedside.
For Xu Qing, this kind of psychological torture was almost enough to make her break down.
When she went out for lunch, she received a call from that Omega girl.
“Sister, are you busy?” The girl’s voice was soft and sweet, sounding like she didn’t belong to this broken world at all.
“Just about to eat.” Xu Qing breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness, she finally found someone she could talk to.
“I’m eating too. I can rest for half an hour after I finish,” the girl said, pausing with her spoon. “Sister, is the trouble at your home resolved?”
Xu Qing: “It will still take some time. Why?”
“I was worried about you. You left in such a hurry last night, I worried all night…”
Xu Qing smiled. “Then why didn’t you call me last night?”
“I… I, I was afraid of disturbing you,” the girl said quietly. “And I went to sleep as soon as I got back last night… work is really tiring…”
Thinking of how she could fall asleep in seconds anywhere, Xu Qing couldn’t help but chuckle.
The sound of light laughter traveled to the other end of the phone. Fu Shuang listened intently and said with a hint of hope: “Sister, will you… be back tonight?”
Xu Qing’s tone was flat: “I won’t be back at all this weekend.”
“Ah? Okay,” Fu Shuang muttered in a low voice. “I was just asking. Go ahead with your business.”
Xu Qing: “Okay.”
Fu Shuang confirmed she had nothing else to say before slowly hanging up the phone.
Speaking of which, this Alpha sister always had a cold and disinterested demeanor. Only that night when she was fighting someone did that fierce and cool image leave a vivid impression on Fu Shuang’s mind.
…And also the way she was hurrying anxiously at the subway station yesterday.
They wouldn’t see each other for the entire weekend?
Fu Shuang couldn’t help but feel it was a pity.
A phone call was more effective than coffee. Xu Qing felt much refreshed. After eating a simple meal, she returned to the ward, where Mr. Xu Kai had already arrived.
“I’ll take care of your mother now. You go do what you need to do.” As he spoke, Xu Kai opened the meal prepared by the family’s nanny and beckoned Ms. Min Se to eat.
Xu Qing threw the takeout from downstairs into the trash can and turned to leave.
Ms. Min Se asked: “Where are you going?”
Xu Qing almost said “to work,” but the words caught in her throat. She said: “I’m going to the Fu family home.”
Min Se nodded, saying with satisfaction: “Go early and return early.”
Xu Kai: “Take my car keys.”
Xu Qing navigated to the villa district where the Fu family lived. As she drove to the gate of the Fu courtyard, two frolicking teenagers suddenly rushed out, nearly hitting the front of the car.
Xu Qing slammed on the brakes and hurried out to check. To her surprise, the reckless teenagers laughed and ran away, one chasing the other with a toy gun.
A young woman in a red dress stood on the balcony, shouting at the top of her lungs: “Haoze! Haoming! Watch out for cars! You’re not allowed to run out to play!”
The large courtyard of the villa was almost as big as an elementary school playground, yet these two teenagers still managed to nearly collide with Xu Qing’s car. Xu Qing was speechless.
Watching the children run wildly, she grabbed one of them by the collar and asked: “Fu Haoze, where is your father?”
“I am Haoming, and my last name isn’t Fu, it’s Lu,” the boy struggled a few times, still refusing to give up the gun to fight his brother. Xu Qing simply snatched the gun and threw it on the ground, saying imperiously: “Is your father home? Has your sister Fu Shuang come back? Do you know?”
“I don’t know!” Lu Haoming began to get angry. But a teenage boy’s strength was no match for an adult Alpha’s. After a few struggles, he simply sat on the ground, crying toward the balcony: “Mom! Someone is bullying me! Come quickly!”
The teenager was nearly 1.7 meters tall, yet he cried at the drop of a hat?
Xu Qing let go with a look of misfortune. She saw the woman in the red dress come out of the villa, smiling brightly as she said: “Oh, so it’s Miss Xu. Please, come inside and sit.”
“Mom! She bullied me!” Lu Haoming pointed at Xu Qing and roared loudly, “She started it!”
“It’s because you’re too weak to beat her!” Lu Haoze chimed in. “You’re so embarrassing!”
“You’re talking nonsense! Try it yourself if you’re so capable!” Lu Haoming’s face turned red with anger. He scrambled up to grab his brother, and the two began scuffling.
Lu Yijiang was gritting her teeth in anger at these two idiots. She snapped on the spot: “Get lost! Don’t embarrass yourselves here!”
As she spoke, she swung her large palm toward her sons’ backsides.
Facing Xu Qing, Lu Yijiang regained her smile. “Miss Xu, please come inside.”
Xu Qing stood her ground and asked directly: “Has Fu Shuang returned home?”
Lu Yijiang gave a difficult smile and sighed. “We’ve asked at school and at her friends’ houses; no one knows where she went.”
Xu Qing said: “Did you call the police?”
Lu Yijiang sighed again: “We went to the police station, but they won’t handle this kind of thing. Unless the person has been missing for 24 hours. But Shuangshuang’s phone picks up, and she can be reached. The police said in this situation it doesn’t count as being missing; they don’t handle cases of adults running away from home.”
Xu Qing thought as much. She asked again: “What about Mr. Fu? Is he home? What does he plan to do?”
“The Master isn’t home,” Lu Yijiang smiled, her lips pressed into a thin line, looking troubled. She shifted her shoulders and said, “What can be done in this situation? Miss Xu, you are highly educated and come from such a good family. To be honest, any Omega would be happy with this marriage. It’s just our Shuangshuang being sensible, not knowing how to cherish it… Look at our Haoze…”
Xu Qing interrupted her: “It’s fine. I’ll wait for her to think it through.”
Lu Yijiang was shocked. She covered her mouth and said, “What did you say?”
“I can’t reach Fu Shuang right now; she has blocked me. If Fu Shuang contacts you, please relay a message for me. I will wait for her. Wait for her to think it through, wait until she is willing to marry me. Please tell her to contact me anytime she changes her mind.”
Xu Qing’s black-and-white eyes looked quietly at Lu Yijiang. Her cold, sharp gaze made the woman shudder involuntarily.
“Will you relay the message for me?” Xu Qing asked.
“I definitely will. I’ll definitely tell her you came,” Lu Yijiang swallowed. “Don’t you want to come in and sit for a bit?”
In the shadow under the corridor, a girl with braided hair was staring intently at Xu Qing, lost in thought.
Xu Qing glanced at her, withdrew her gaze, and said to Lu Yijiang: “I will visit again tomorrow, and I’ll keep coming until she appears.”
